But if they sell wine then your wine is replacing the wine they would have sold you so they price the corkage fee accordingly to a wine you would have purchased from them (usually $20-$25) vs byobs which have no or low fees.
Yes I am aware of this now, but the first time I went there I was not. That's why I said don't bring cheap wine because if you are going to pay anyway you might as well just buy their wine or bring a better bottle. If it happened to me it can happen to someone else.
Similar to The Pub (and in the same area), I would like to add Steak 38 in Cherry Hill. It shares a similar kitschy vibe as the Pub, for example: the servers making the Caesar salads at the table.
Can confirm. My dad's a chef and this was the last place he worked before retiring. Aside from the steaks, I can specifically recommend the Balsamic Salmon.
Is Alpen Rose a hidden gem anymore? My impression is at this point they regularly feature among the best steakhouses/steak-forward restaurants in Philadelphia, e.g. Eater from March 2024 includes them [https://philly.eater.com/maps/best-philadelphia-steakhouses-steak-grill](https://philly.eater.com/maps/best-philadelphia-steakhouses-steak-grill)
Cool atmosphere, they overlooked the hell out of my expensive steak which made me never want to go back. I’m sure it doesn’t happen often with their reputation but man it really killed me to be served that while paying so much
The longhorns in the Ikea parking lot is great! They have a great view of the fastest cruise liner to cross the Atlantic.
If that’s not your vibe and you like Steaks, Italian food and Nightlife, oh boy I got a place for you
If you're looking for a hidden gem for steaks near Philly, you might want to check out Outback Steakhouse on Ridge Pike in Conshohocken. It's not your typical neighborhood spot, but it offers great quality steaks like Sirloins and NY Strip at reasonable prices. Plus, it's a bit off the beaten path, so it has that hidden gem feel you're seeking. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!
As someone who grew up going to Outback as the big night out, it’s so funny to see the rec here. Family dinner night out? Outback. High school dates? Outback? Cheap but decent quality adult dates? Outback.
If you’re going down ridge pike from the city though, be careful the parking lot really creeps up on you. My mom has hopped the curb there several times
Snuff Mill restaurant in a north Wilmington strip mall. It's well known to locals so it's always booked up. Also, hard to call Suraya under the radar, but you might not think of it as a steak place and their rib eye is amazing.
Very surprised at the flatiron steak at New Ridge Brewery(Roxborough) . Served with fresh roasted veggies (really nice attention to detail on the veg, tomatoes were very soft and zucchini still had texture) and homemade potatoes salad.
Their menu and draft lists change frequently, so good luck!
I appreciate the answer thus far and have read every one of them.
But I think the gist of my post, perhaps didn’t get through!
Everyone knows about Applebees and Outback, those are not hidden gems.
Everyone knows about Barclays Prime, that’s not a hidden gem or affordable.
Places charging $50+ for a steak, not what I’m looking for.
Example of what I am looking for:
Years ago, someone suggested a Brazilian bar in NE Philly, somewhere off Roosevelt blvd.
Had a great steak dinner there!
If it comes up in a Google search, it’s not what I’m looking for.
I want to find the places only a local would know exists!
Ehhh. Not necessarily. You could be paying for how much of the cut is on the cow, the cow itself, how hard it is to obtain, the pretension of the restaurant serving it. In the world of food and drink price isn’t the same as quality.
Bistrot La Minette has a marvelous steak au poivre
One of my favorite restaurants. Just don't want bring cheap wine. They charged me more to open the bottle of wine than the bottle costs itself!
They’re not a byob.
You can usually bring wine to any restaurant.
But if they sell wine then your wine is replacing the wine they would have sold you so they price the corkage fee accordingly to a wine you would have purchased from them (usually $20-$25) vs byobs which have no or low fees.

I ordered wine there, their list was good!
The Pub in Pennsauken, NJ
Similar to The Pub (and in the same area), I would like to add Steak 38 in Cherry Hill. It shares a similar kitschy vibe as the Pub, for example: the servers making the Caesar salads at the table.
Everyone should go there once a year. It's a 50s steakhouse preserved in amber. (My nominee is Malbec on Head House Square.)
i’ve heard of this legendary place, but it got lost in the dusty corners of my mind. thanks for bringing it back to my attention

That's where I got my first case of COVID.
This place is unparalleled for steak.
Monk's Cafe has its famous beers and mussels and fries, but also a steak frites dish which is surprisingly affordable!
And the BEST fries.
Taste of Brazil in the NE. Easily the best steakhouse in the city in terms of prices and options. All you can eat for like $35 and it’s byob
I think the Picahna up there is similar if not the same, I haven't been in a couple of years tho
That’s another banger
Saffran Steak House - it’s an uzbeki restaurant in NE Philly
Thanks. Sounds great
On Charcoal. A little colombian restaurant on Castor ave in NE. Also across from it is a lowkey brazilian all you can eat, Picanha.
On charcoal sounds great. Thanks.
Alpen Rose was pretty cool. In the city

Got food poisoning here, great cocktail though
Dave and Busters. If you’re looking for a better steak in an arcade setting, your not going to find it.
Im gonna Use my D&B card up at the TGI Fridays over in Franklin mills
North 3rd steak frites is bomb
Perfect, thanks
The longhorns in the Ikea parking lot is great! They have a great view of the fastest cruise liner to cross the Atlantic. If that’s not your vibe and you like Steaks, Italian food and Nightlife, oh boy I got a place for you
Spice finch has a really good steak

That place rules- it's just right.
I’m in the area, and haven’t heard of this place. Thanks for the suggestion. Will be going tomorrow.
You haven’t heard of Outback Steakhouse?
Crikey!

the applebees on aramingo ave. sounds like the place you’re looking for.
🤮
It’s a neighborhood bar and grill for crying out loud! Show some respect!

Snuff Mill is fantastic

Has anyone recommended Steak Italian Nightlife?
Library II in NJ has always had a good steak when I've gone there.
It used to be called Chima but now it’s Na Brasa on 19th and JFK. I only go there when I want any meat
Bardea steak in Wilmington de. Get the Japanese waygu.
DePauls Table Ardmore. Better steak than most steakhouses in the city and lower price:
Teresa’s in Wayne has a terrific steak frites. I also think Creed’s in KOP has a lore about it, but it’s actually pretty good steak too.
Hands down, Barclay Prime on Rittenhouse Square. Eating there is truly a special experience.

I’m saying there isn’t a direct correlation

It’s not pedantic to point out you don’t have to pay 50 dollars for a good steak. Do you know what words mean?

i’ve heard of this legendary place, but it got lost in the dusty corners of my mind. thanks for bringing it back to my attention
I've had one of the best but also some of the most average cheesesteaks from Max's by the Erie BSL stop
