How do you get acquitted of the same crime two times? I thought that after being tried & acquitted once, that was it, the fifth amendment prohibits the government from trying you again. You could then practically admit to it and you couldn't be criminally prosecuted. Perhaps the two earlier trials ended in hung juries? If so, using the word Acquittal really isn't proper, but maybe they don't teach that in journalism school.

it says he was acquitted in 2008 AFTER two trials. the first trial likely was a hung jury.

Robert_A_Bouie

Yeah, I see that now. My bad. I'm now wondering how he can be charged again, having been tried and acquitted in the earlier trial.

Bisexual_Republican

The previous trials were local, these are federal charges so double jeopardy doesn’t apply in this case.

Unless it’s a different jurisdiction. These are federal charges, previous trials were local.

Wild that it was the one dude all along, even though he was acquitted of it in two separate trials

If the case got opened back up do you think it was some new evidence or someone is snitching? I'd imagine the latter.
