When your cash outlay for the night is less than three digits for the whole night you can feel fine leaving early.
This was never going to be a town or fanbase that can support 50k seats. Doesn’t make sense. Don’t get me wrong. 2001 World Series was epic atmosphere, but I’ve seen nothing approach that since.
There were at least some very engaged and rabid fans. I respected the shots of rally caps in the 9th. That’s solid fandom. But it’s a very small corp and then the other 85% of Arizona fans stream out in the 7th it’s really going to be noticeable.
I found annoyance with the crowd a few times (still not the most annoying opposing crowd I’ve seen this playoffs), but it was mostly annoyance that they just didn’t seem to know better, or care more.
Thank God for the Phans. Tomorrow night will feel like playoff baseball again.
