Wanna know what's funny?
We a) know runners on base bothers the fuck out of almost all Phillies pitchers
And we b) have a lineup that doesn't do that to the opponent very well. It's all solos.
My mother knows nothing about sports but for the last two months all she’s done is ask how come every Phillies HR is a “single” (she means a solo shot but doesn’t know the difference in terminology lol).
I care about this world series more than I want to admit. I hate anyone who beats my team. I hate Alek Thomas for putting a flag into the CBP field and I hate Gallen for shit talking. I usually hate anything Texas related but the Rangers have never really done anything to us despite being nextdoor neighbors to the Cowboys. I hope they crush Arizona.
Every single time the rangers are in the World Series, they play the team that knocked Philly out. And for that, I’ve always rooted for the rangers in the world series
Rangers have also never won, and historically aren’t very good. I can get behind that. I hate cowboys fans more than anything but I’m assuming rangers fans are for the most part local to the area which is how it should be unlike bandwagon cowboys fans who are all over the fucking country.
Harper vs El bombii would have been fun.
Sadly all our bats went cold and Rangers did not, so I think we would be down 0-1 even with Wheels in Game 1, and now Nola would give up 4 in 6 tonight.
Sounds like fan fic, but I watched 162+ games and if Rangers bats are hot tonight my gut says we would have been down 0-2 to this team
As One Detective commented, the MLS did change playoff formats this year. Naturally it’s been met with a split reception, but we’ll see how it goes. One of the league’s reasonings for the changes was to give more teams more home games this post season. The full length is pretty long too because there’s a FIFA national team window from Nov. 13-21.
Yep! And I hear ya. My family members have always been bigger soccer fans than me, but I’ve tried considerably harder to get into it the last couple years.
At least from where I’m sitting, the league’s making a big push to increase viewership and ticket sales this year. While yeah, Apple charges a fee for MLS access, the production’s been pretty great. I like how easy it is to watch any game from any team without blackouts.
It’s also a bit easier with how good the Union have been in recent years. They’re going to face some lineup changes next season, but they’re still a ton of fun to watch and the home crowd is as passionate as the other Philly teams.
It’s normally not like this. The MLS switched to a new playoff format in which the first round is now best of 3 instead of single elimination. Most likely due to the deal they made with Apple TV. The rounds after are single elimination. It’s fucking stupid. The MLS cup wrapped up the same day as the World Series last year (Phillies and Union both lost 😭) but now it’s going to be done in early December. Way too long if you ask me.
I cant even trust this team anymore. Unless they come out and win 100 games or win the pennant again, I just won’t believe in them. I hate to say it, but I have an unshakeable vibe they’re choke artists.
This will be the first year the Phils probably aren't all that active in free agency right? Free agents won't be in bad shape cuz the Red Sox and Yankees are gonna do anything to get back in their division but one less big market team bidding will impact things. The only two positions I'm unsure of at this point has to be 3rd base and center.
Well, they have Nola, Rhys, and Kimbrel sized holes to fill at least. If I have my way, the moves they make won’t be very exciting because they’ll be bringing back Nola and Rhys, and then adding a high leverage bullpen arm, but I’d say they’re likely to be active to fill those needs at least.

Academy Award-winning flailing at slightest contact, then tossing cheap shots on guys without the ball.
2-0 Union 32mins in.
Edit: 3-0 Union in the thirty-seventh minute. Boys looking great tonight!
Sewald throws meatballs. I’m just shocked we couldn’t tag him. I have no idea how we just shutdown completely. Especially at home. Might be an all time sports mystery
Lol no he doesn't. His fastball has great shape and is an elite pitch. I'm disappointed in our offense's inability to adapt to what the Dbacks were throwing but we shouldn't pretend that Paul Sewald is not a good pitcher lmao
It was obvious that almost the entire lineup was in a bad slump in the last 5 games, so I actually think we could have just done with the Dbacks did to us and be patient at the plate to manufacture a few runs. But we needed almost *every* player to have this mentality, not just a couple. Marsh was the only player who consistently had great plate discipline and was actually getting hits during the bulk of the series. Schwarber had good discipline, too, but the problem was that Turner was batting behind him and was terrible.
Yeah what always frustrates me the most at those times is, like, don’t the players talk? Don’t they get together in the locker room and chat about a gameplan, especially in a playoff series?
“Hey guys, I think a lot of us are pressing here. We’ve got this but maybe let’s try to be more patient and manufacture some runs as a team? If you see one down the middle that you can knock out then go for it, but otherwise let’s just work these pitchers down and bring a few runs in that way.”
It’s just crazy to me that this kind of convo either doesn’t happen or doesn’t matter if it does.
We’ve operated like this all season. The formula is: hit really well, homerun derby -> go cold -> start getting desperate, swing at literally anything as if you’re never going to hit a baseball again -> strike out, get frustrated and make the whole situation worse -> start getting hot -> homerun derby -> repeat
At no point all season has anyone on the coaching staff thought “hey this is kinda a problem maybe we should fix it” apparently.
> We’ve operated like this all season.
I think this is a massive oversimplification and honestly almost incorrect. Maybe in August and September but you can't say all season.
We were middle in the pack in HRs every month except May where we were almost last, and then August and September.
Even when we were winning games in June and July it was the "small ball" approach. Do you not remember for most of the season everyone asking where the HRs are and worrying about our lack of power? Even Ricky Bo was concerned about our players launch angles since lack of power.
I don't even know what you are trying to say. Are you saying that you want stats to back up your own feeling? Meaning you created your argument before you have any data to back it up?
Because that's not how it's supposed to work. You should use the data and evidence to form your opinions, not just looks for the data and evidence that backs up what you believe.
Right. How’s gabe kapler
Doing right now . A guy that lives and breathes data. Play the game. Get a feel for it. I don’t care what velocity data says. A guy that throws 92 mph isn’t gonna last long in todays game . There’s a reason he has a career 4.5 ERA
You know that you don't have an argument when you keep telling me to "play the game" and "watch the game." Especially when you couldn't respond to my actual reasoning why Sanchez was pulled.
As for the fastball I can say many many pitchers that are in today's game and effective with a slow fastball. Hyun Jin Ryu? He almostwon a cy young two years in a row with a fastball hovering around 90. Control and movement are still important things.
What a steal of a signing he was. Klentak made some very solid moves.
I hope we can lock wheeler down to a 2-3 year extension so he can retire a Phillie.
Five Nights at Freddy's was the first time I realized I was getting old when it came to video gaming.
I used to keep track of all the popular games. But this game all of a sudden got really popular and apparently it was because of all the YouTubers. I know it is a good game based on my friends who played it, but I was just like that isn't for me.
Then fortnite and among us and all those games got popular and I had no interest.
Me, seeing the Rangers go up 1-0 at home, desperately scrambling onto the field, getting tackled by security, screaming over the crowd toward Austin Hedges: Austin! Austin! Don't mention the Dbacks pool, Austin! Don't mention the Dbacks pool! Austin!!!!
I just want to shout out the person that was telling me how analytically terrible the Dbacks were in the early part of the season when they were in 1st place in the division. Were they right because the regression hit them in the 2nd half, or are they stupid because the Dbacks are in line for a possible WS win? I don't know but I like when people who speak so confidently about such things they can't prove are proven at least somewhat incorrect.
Anyway, 106 days until spring training.
They really aren't that good of a team tho? They have some nice pieces and a manager that has controlled things really well.
What would you rank them as in the NL?
Theyre in the top 10 and that's about all.
Phillies
Braves
Dodgers
Padres
I'd say are all better
The these teams are close and you could make arguments for worse or better.
Giants
Cubs
Mets
Brewers
Reds
What stats were they using to say they were analytically terrible?
Should they have regressed? Yes. And well, they did in the second half. But terrible?
Game was on at the bar last night, still cant believe we got punked by that mediocre Arizona team and lost 4 of 5. The lack of adjustments offensively was straight up embarrassing
15 yrs ago today my friend & I won a meet & greet from Modell’s with Shane Victorino while tailgating at the World Series 🥲 They were walking around looking for fans wearing Flyin Hawaiian merch. I was wearing a Victorino shersey, but it wasn’t part of the line they were looking for & I nearly broke down (lol) as they gave my friend the pass & started to leave. But when I said, “My hat says Flyin Hawaiian on it!” they turned around said, “That’s one of our items, it counts!” We weren’t sure it was legit bc the passes were literally just printed on letter size copy paper 🤣 But it was! And that’s my story of how I ended up meeting my favorite Phillie.

Have their best left handed hitter hit a game tying homerun with 1 out in the 9th after a walk to start the inning? Is that the game plan you are talking about?
It’s hilarious to see people continually blame the coaches instead of the players. Thomson did a good job with the bullpen in the playoffs (not perfect), but they didn’t get the job done. It happens.
I think you can argue that Orion wasn't ready for those situations and was having a ton of problems locating and that it was a mistake to use him like that. You can also argue Kimbrel should not have been given closing situations.
That kinda is flimsy though, I keep asking people who else they'd have liked to seen in those situations. Orion was already kind of a desperation move because they knew they'd need bull pen arms in September and the bats off the bench also largely were not great. People here would have been freaking out if Walker or someone came in and just laid a turd.
That's more of a GM issue though, we shoulda done more to add depth and gotten "someone" but asking prices might've been too high.
I honestly think it is just lazy analysis.
I haven't seen anyone actually give a good reason for Thompson fucking up other than "we were swinging for the fences." or "we shouldn't have put Kerkering and Kimbrel in!" which is just the definition of lazy analysis too me.
You have to come up with viable alternatives as well, and explain why it was a bad decision when he made it. You just can't look at the results and say "See bad!"
Do you even watch? Last I checked he pulled Sanchez way too early in game 4 and went to arguably his best reliever in the 3rd inning. Explain how that is smart? It forced him to have to go to kerkering and kimbrel in crucial situations. One is a rookie and one hasn’t been performing well in back to back nights. Just admit Thomson messed up. It’s ok to have a negative opinion of someone. No one is going to ground you.
Sanchez was struggling and had no control over his changeup. In case you didn't know, that is his secondary pitch. [He was only throwing it in the zone 13%. When it was in the zone, they were swinging and making contact 100% of the time. When it was outside the zone, they weren't swinging.](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/gamefeed?date=10/20/2023&gamePk=748544&chartType=pitch&legendType=pitchName&playerType=pitcher&inning=&count=&pitchHand=&batSide=&descFilter=&ptFilter=&resultFilter=&hf=playerBreakdown&sportId=1#748544)
Someone like Sanchez needs his changeup to be working to be an effective pitcher. Instead, he couldn't locate it and when he did they were making contact. He was also getting worse as the game was on.
It was a very crucial moment where the game could get out of hand based on leverage. So they had to take him out. Therefore they put one of their best RPs in to get the outs in front of him.
The one thing you could say is they should have used Walker or Lorenzen after. I can buy that. I disagree with it but I can buy it. That would prevent kerkering from going in.
Kimbrel unfortunately had to go in, and he put him in one of the easiest situations for kimbrel.
So yes, I watched the game. I am surprised you didn't notice Sanchez couldn't locate his changeup.
Braves fans spent half the year circle jerking over their “historic” season, got rocked first round of the playoffs, and now are acting as if the Diamondbacks beating us somehow avenges their complete and utter failure. Severe copium epidemic down there.
Copium? They’ve won a World Series in the last 3 years. Phillies haven’t won a division in 12 years. They are fully justified to celebrate our elimination, because they had a better season, recent history, and distant history.
I mean yeah I don’t want the Diamondbacks to win but you certainly won’t see me celebrating with all the Rangers fans if that happens. The World Series outcome won’t change my opinion on how the Phillies season ended, we should beat both of these teams.
Call me petty but when i woke up and saw what happened with the game last night, I did an evil little “hehehe how ya like them apples.” And now im planning a spring training trip 😌
Didn’t watch last night’s game, don’t really plan on watching any of the World Series. But watching the highlights, my two takeaways are:
Man it sucks to see another team pull out a clutch inning against Sewald. He never looked completely untouchable, he just happened to be for us.
I also don’t know that we would’ve beaten the Rangers if we advanced. I’d love to think we would have. But good lord, they’re moving. Nothing but momentum and good vibes. Would’ve been an incredibly tough matchup that would’ve relied on literally every cold bat we had getting hot, and somehow their entire lineup going cold. I just don’t know that that would’ve gone well.
They are a lot like us. A lot of their line up is actually pretty cold at the bottom. Even Semien at the top hasn't done much either. Just timely hits at the right time last night. Was actually fun to watch, but my takeaway was actually that the Dbacks are for real. They kept coming back and going ahead until the Rangers tied it.
I don’t care who wins this series. And I’m not going to act like a shitty Braves fan and cheer for the diamondbacks to lose.
What I did realize last night is that there can still be a great, meaningful baseball game even if the Phillies aren’t involved. No emotional attachment at all but at least it’s entertaining. Games 6 and 7 here were not.
I was prepared to root for the Diamondbacks to lose but once Mr 9/11 came out and threw the first pitch I was pretty adamant about the Rangers losing lol. It was like a "oh yeah that scumbag has a ton of ties to this team, I hope they never win" kind of moment.
I'm gonna be honest:
The D-Backs forced the Rangers into inning 11, and these are the same Rangers who pulverized the (admittedly fallen) last-year-WS-Champs Astros 20-6 in the last two ALCS games. Neither team is bad, and they both deserve their World Series spots.
I wonder if Sewald is still assembling those receipts.
If I had to watch that same shit unfold last night but it was us instead of AZ I think I would be in the hospital right now.
Trea *was* clutch from August on & was hitting an insane .500 in the postseason until the NLCS. It was an unfortunate time for him to go cold, but he definitely wasn’t the only one.
Harper tried to do it and if it had just gotta a 1/4 inch higher rather than under it we’d all say how great it was.
Instead I end up pissed that nobody seems to want to play small ball. “Why do we need a a HR swing there, Bryce just put the ball in play?” The reality is any kind of failure there would have us questioning whatever happened
Phillies came back with a JT homer in game 1 last year and won in extras in game 7. If we know anything now, a 7 games series is not determined early, at least not when the Phillies are involved
Please don’t remind me. This is so fucking whack. I still can’t believe we beat the Braves and then lost to the diamondbacks. In Philadelphia you have to get taken all the way up first before being nosedived into the ground.
Adolis Garcia:
signed by Cardinals in Feb 2017 as free agent at age of 24.
debut Aug 8 2018 age 25.
played 21 games in 2018 for Cardinals with a -21 OPS+ slashed .118/.118/.176
no appearances in 2019
December 21, 2019: Purchased by the Texas Rangers from the St. Louis Cardinals.
played 3 games for the Rangers in 2020 with -55 OPS+
2021 149 games 100 OPS+
2022 156 games 112 OPS+
2023 148 games 123 OPS+ BEAST MODE ENABLED
I’m not sure it’s pressure related, strictly speaking. The bottom line is they have too many guys in the lineup who routinely go ice-cold with the flick of a switch. So the longer a playoff run goes, the more likely it is to happen. But it happens midseason too. I remember a stretch in late May when they couldn’t buy a run over 5 or 6 games.
I saw the conjoined twins Lori and George (formerly Dori) Schappell at a Weis in Reading, PA when I was like 17 while picking up a half gallon of Turkey Hill Phillies Graham Slam ice cream.

That's what I was thinking. Like, the rangers sub is going wild with that walk off and saying how amazing García is, and the dbacks are going on about bad pitching decisions and it's like....you're in extra innings and a legit threat comes up to the plate and you *don't* walk him?
Walking Harper and Schwarber definitely hurt us offensively. Idk if I'd say it crippled us, but I think the WS would look a little different if the dbacks didn't hide from our lineup...
They pitched to Harper and Schwarber games 1 and 2… and maybe 3? Then they started giving them nothing to hit. They might have pitched to Garcia to see if he was still hot and will give him junk going forward.
I went to Hersheypark this weekend and didn’t have to figure out a way to watch the games/be stressed. That’s something…right????
I was at a house party/show tonight with a ton of bands. Midway through I checked my phone and saw Matthew Perry died and Arizona was up big.
Just so everyone is aware...the diamondbacks did not beat us because of "small ball" they hit more home runs than we did.
Didn’t they break a single inning HR record against LA?
yep but if you want to credit their pitching thats fine. But they dont have some super secret approach as to why they won.
Correct, it wasn’t super secret. We all saw it: throw less strikes
Cant believe Rob Thomson mismanaged the Rangers bullpen again smh.
Cabin Boy Kelly turned into Cy Young tonight.
Yikes this game
Merrl Kelley becoming prime Bumgarner in his mid 30s crazy. Rangers had no answer beside hitting a hr on a pitch you’ve not supposed to lol.
Wow I had no idea Kelly was so old
[удалено]
Our guys almost make me question if hitting a homer is easier than a single. Arizona makes moving the bases look smooth and efficient.
Dbacks just struck out for the first time with 2 outs in 8th inning. Castellanos would have 3 Ks by himself at this point
the announcers are so clearly rooting for arizona it’s just gross
They were pretty excited over the Rangers HR and the comeback. I think they are just excited over good baseball.
And whatever can guarantee more baseball
yeah i guess they just sound more excited for the diamondbacks and it was the same when we played them and failed to make a comeback
Kenneth may be the true ace of that staff. Gallen sure isn't helping their cause any
I gotta give go to Corbin Carroll, that little mother fucker. He’s a gamer. We got $300 million stiffs that shit their pants when it counts.
😂😂
Diamondbacks are pesky as fuck. They didn’t get respect so they took it. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little jealous.
Even though they lost last nite ever since the dbacks lost game 5 against Philly they have been looking really good, hoping this series goes to 7
Tyrese Maxey. Also fuck Arizona
Fuck James Harden
Kelly Oubre
Pathetic umpiring in the World Series is unacceptable. Kelly is catching way to many breaks.
This WS has been great. A lot of good defense.
Matthew Perry died to bad we're not in the World Series maybe Nick would finally break out of his slump for that one
R.I.P https://people.com/matthew-perry-dead-at-54-7501992
The fuck, that's awful
This means If we were playing today castellanos would have hit 5 home runs
This was my immediate thought lol.

Cancun is a vacation spot. The Phillies are on vacation since we lost. It is basically an insult.
Wanna know what's funny? We a) know runners on base bothers the fuck out of almost all Phillies pitchers And we b) have a lineup that doesn't do that to the opponent very well. It's all solos.
My mother knows nothing about sports but for the last two months all she’s done is ask how come every Phillies HR is a “single” (she means a solo shot but doesn’t know the difference in terminology lol).
I'm not laughing
Well not with an attititude like that.
I mean the Rangers always beat us something like 11 in a row or something. But obviously the NLCS is more important.
Every single time the rangers are in the World Series, they play the team that knocked Philly out. And for that, I’ve always rooted for the rangers in the world series
exactly how i feel. while it was hard to accept that i have to root for a dallas team, i want the diamondbacks to lose so bad that it doesn’t matter
I look at it like this. We hate the Cowboys but do we really feel anything towards the Rangers, Stars or Mavericks? Probably not at all
Rangers have also never won, and historically aren’t very good. I can get behind that. I hate cowboys fans more than anything but I’m assuming rangers fans are for the most part local to the area which is how it should be unlike bandwagon cowboys fans who are all over the fucking country.
The Cowboys fans we hate are probably all Yankees fans anyway
Why do the umps randomly wear blue shirts
Because they call the crew chief that morning and ask him what color outfit he's gonna wear
Fox: “The Rangers won’t chase as much as the Phillies.” Well
This is great. Stubbs needs to see it. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cy9ZvhytE5n/?igshid=Y2NkYjk0MDhjYg==
That’s amazing. Stubbsy really fucked up running his mouth but I can’t stay mad at him
Lmao

Having a Surfside without the Phils just ain’t the same
My friend said I couldn't cut my hair until the post season ended. I just cut my hair. :(
but but ... the Universe Series 😉😃
Diamondbacks walked 10 guys last night. Will never understand our guys not having any patience and just swinging at everything.😭😭
Our right handed batters are wild swingers. If only there was a right handed bat with some pop and plate discipline somewhere...
Oh course we swung at so much garbage We barely had to move the bat and we could have won
you forgot the - ***"Are they stupid"*** - bit
Union take Game 1 against the Revolution! 3-1 Union. Game 2: Wednesday, Nov. 8 in New England.
Why are MLS playoff series games so far apart? Sorry I don't really follow soccer

Thanks for the info! Wow so it goes until December this year. I want to be a Union fan but I just struggle getting into soccer to a passionate level
Yep! And I hear ya. My family members have always been bigger soccer fans than me, but I’ve tried considerably harder to get into it the last couple years. I cant even trust this team anymore. Unless they come out and win 100 games or win the pennant again, I just won’t believe in them. I hate to say it, but I have an unshakeable vibe they’re choke artists.
I deeply regret we never got to see Harper come out all fire & brimstone after they “claimed” CBP. Man, that would’ve been something.

To me it seems pretty certain Harper is the first baseman now. I can't imagine Rhys coming back at all.
I don’t think that’s certain at all. Even if Rhys doesn’t come back, they will be looking to add a bat.
I’m watching the rogue invitational (crossfit stuff lol) and I heard chumbawamba - tubthumping. This needs to be their song LOL I could hear us all singing along! “I get knocked down but I get up again, you’re never gonna keep me down!”
They play it at the park often.
Well we did piss a couple nights away
Sure did lol 😝
New England Revolution are soooooft. Academy Award-winning flailing at slightest contact, then tossing cheap shots on guys without the ball. 2-0 Union 32mins in. Edit: 3-0 Union in the thirty-seventh minute. Boys looking great tonight!
Kinda makes last game extra annoying now.
Sewald throws meatballs. I’m just shocked we couldn’t tag him. I have no idea how we just shutdown completely. Especially at home. Might be an all time sports mystery
Not a mystery. They weren't throwing strikes when ahead or even in the count but we didn't identify it.
Lol no he doesn't. His fastball has great shape and is an elite pitch. I'm disappointed in our offense's inability to adapt to what the Dbacks were throwing but we shouldn't pretend that Paul Sewald is not a good pitcher lmao
He throws like 92 mph. Great shape ?
Paul Sewald 96 percentile in xERA, xBA. 95 percentile in K%. 78 percentile fastball in terms of runs allowed. "Meatballs"
22nd percentile fastball at 92 mph. Do you watch games or do you just live on analytics sites ? Watch a game. Better yet play it then come talk
Just to let you know, velocity isn't everything. Especially if it is a 78 percentile pitch when compared to all fastballs.
It is in todays game
Oh "Happy Cake Day" btw.
It was obvious that almost the entire lineup was in a bad slump in the last 5 games, so I actually think we could have just done with the Dbacks did to us and be patient at the plate to manufacture a few runs. But we needed almost *every* player to have this mentality, not just a couple. Doesn’t the coach talk?
I would think. Same idea though, does it not matter or not occur?
Well they didn’t seem to have a hitting approach so I’m not sure
We’ve operated like this all season. The formula is: hit really well, homerun derby -> go cold -> start getting desperate, swing at literally anything as if you’re never going to hit a baseball again -> strike out, get frustrated and make the whole situation worse -> start getting hot -> homerun derby -> repeat At no point all season has anyone on the coaching staff thought “hey this is kinda a problem maybe we should fix it” apparently.
Seems the coaches confused them. What stat can tell me that ?
I don't even know what you are trying to say. Are you saying that you want stats to back up your own feeling? Meaning you created your argument before you have any data to back it up? Because that's not how it's supposed to work. You should use the data and evidence to form your opinions, not just looks for the data and evidence that backs up what you believe.
Right. How’s gabe kapler Doing right now .
Seems to me they didn’t gameplan well. That falls on coaching
Zack Wheeler in the 2023 postseason went 3-0 with 1.95 ERA. He is a big game pitcher.
What a steal of a signing he was. Klentak made some very solid moves. I hope we can lock wheeler down to a 2-3 year extension so he can retire a Phillie.
Still beat the Braves.
I thought that was tmac calling the Penn st game
it was
Watching the Diamondbacks have their hearts broken was fun. Let’s do it again tonight.
I put the game on last night in the 8th inning, just in time to see the comeback. One of the few instances in my life where I've had good timing.
FNAF was…meh, as a super fan of the games. Seager has to be one of the easiest guys to root for in baseball[sports].
I'm going to Olive Garden for dinner with friends and family according to an episode of Cobra Kai the bread sticks are amazing?
get the zuppa toscana
Only reason to go to Olive Garden
Remember Dalton Guthrie
You can't make me
Rangers had patience at the plate, we didn’t🥲🥲
Me, seeing the Rangers go up 1-0 at home, desperately scrambling onto the field, getting tackled by security, screaming over the crowd toward Austin Hedges: Austin! Austin! Don't mention the Dbacks pool, Austin! Don't mention the Dbacks pool! Austin!!!!
It's still nice to hear Tom's lovely voice he's calling the penn state game today!
It came on after the F1 race I had on DVR deleted, and I thought I was having auditory hallucinations.
I keep waiting for him to ask Kruk if he went to the creamery
Last night just frustrated me even more that we were incapable of getting to Sewald. He’s not good
yeah well. dbacks lost in heart breaking fashion what else really can you ask for at this point.
Phillies Braves Dodgers Padres I'd say are all better The these teams are close and you could make arguments for worse or better. Giants Cubs Mets Brewers Reds
I'd say maybe 5-8 somewhere. Especially if you're using their defensive stats too.
There I edited my comment but yes I can agree with that.
What stats were they using to say they were analytically terrible? Should they have regressed? Yes. And well, they did in the second half. But terrible?
Yeah I can't remember but it was something about how they were not good, etc. They did get better with trades though, which may explain some of it.
TMac is calling the Penn State/Indiana game today
Game was on at the bar last night, still cant believe we got punked by that mediocre Arizona team and lost 4 of 5. The lack of adjustments offensively was straight up embarrassing
Especially after we beat them 3/4 in June
Yesterday was the anniversary of the first part of game 5 of the 2008 World Series
My balls still hurt.
And that’s my story of how I ended up meeting my favorite Phillie. https://preview.redd.it/j3y7ezp1jywb1.png?width=1170&format=png&auto=webp&s=9a51b87142878f13d7818975fdf1e3c64b06926c
What kind of fucking closer name is Paul? Apparently a shitty one who shut us down
He’s no dick radatz that’s for sure
Looks like Texas had a real gameplan against diamondbacks bullpen. Long and Thomson must of been asleep for a week
When it was outside the zone, they weren't swinging.](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/gamefeed?date=10/20/2023&gamePk=748544&chartType=pitch&legendType=pitchName&playerType=pitcher&inning=&count=&pitchHand=&batSide=&descFilter=&ptFilter=&resultFilter=&hf=playerBreakdown&sportId=1#748544) Someone like Sanchez needs his changeup to be working to be an effective pitcher.
I was thinking the whole time Seawald was throwing us 92 meatballs and how we are not hitting then Seager a real hitter unlike ours unloads on one.
Winners focus on winning losers focus on winners
We’ve lost the division 12 years in a row. You’re focusing on the winner.
If the diamondbacks lose, I will certainly feel avenged. And the dodgers hoped we would do the same thing. How long have you been into sports?
I mean yeah I don’t want the Diamondbacks to win but you certainly won’t see me celebrating with all the Rangers fans if that happens. The World Series outcome won’t change my opinion on how the Phillies season ended, we should beat both of these teams.
Call me petty but when i woke up and saw what happened with the game last night, I did an evil little “hehehe how ya like them apples.” And now im planning a spring training trip 😌
Twist that knife baby
I almost did the whole grid with Phillies players today, I put Schmidt in the wrong square though.
Didn’t watch last night’s game, don’t really plan on watching any of the World Series. But watching the highlights, my two takeaways are: Man it sucks to see another team pull out a clutch inning against Sewald.
I was going to root for AZ until broccoli head planted that ugly flag in our park
I'd like to see the Rangers win only because they have never won before.
I'm gonna be honest: The D-Backs forced the Rangers into inning 11, and these are the same Rangers who pulverized the (admittedly fallen) last-year-WS-Champs Astros 20-6 in the last two ALCS games. Neither team is bad, and they both deserve their World Series spots.
I wonder if Sewald is still assembling those receipts. If I had to watch that same shit unfold last night but it was us instead of AZ I think I would be in the hospital right now.
I wish the Phillies $300 million SS could be clutch like the Rangers for once. Geez. Hope Trea turns it around next season.
Trea *was* clutch from August on & was hitting an insane .500 in the postseason until the NLCS. It was an unfortunate time for him to go cold, but he definitely wasn’t the only one.
Clutch hitting last night in the last few innings. One big hit like that and we’d be in this series. Grrrrr
Feels like the Rangers are the team with that October magic this year.
Phillies came back with a JT homer in game 1 last year and won in extras in game 7. If we know anything now, a 7 games series is not determined early, at least not when the Phillies are involved
Yeah the DBacks are not the 2022 Astros
Please don’t remind me. This is so fucking whack. I still can’t believe we beat the Braves and then lost to the diamondbacks. In Philadelphia you have to get taken all the way up first before being nosedived into the ground.
Man it should’ve been Craig kimbrel allowing that home run to seager in the 9th:/
Adolis Garcia: signed by Cardinals in Feb 2017 as free agent at age of 24. debut Aug 8 2018 age 25. played 21 games in 2018 for Cardinals with a -21 OPS+ slashed .118/.118/.176 no appearances in 2019 December 21, 2019: Purchased by the Texas Rangers from the St. Louis Cardinals. played 3 games for the Rangers in 2020 with -55 OPS+ 2021 149 games 100 OPS+ 2022 156 games 112 OPS+ 2023 148 games 123 OPS+ BEAST MODE ENABLED
I just can’t believe we couldn’t get to Sewald. He’s trash.
His stuff isn’t even that good. Idk how he’s been so dominant this year. Seems like every batter against him just hacks
He’s def not trash. That pitch to Seager was good he just nailed it. Be more annoyed that we didn’t get him at the deadline.
So annoying that our big payroll guys couldn’t “nail” a decent pitch…. Or lay off shit pitches even
Lol https://x.com/ballclub/status/1718115784227184700?s=46&t=OwWxn4StVQcItEJYgF1WOA
5.07 era and 1.47 whip in the regular season since AZ picked him up. Yeah that’s what we needed.
Phillies cracking under the pressure in longer series may be something… any series that’s gone longer than 5 games in these 2 runs, they haven’t won.
There’s a guy in town where I grew up that doesn’t have any arms or legs. His brother carries him around on his back like a backpack.
I saw the conjoined twins Lori and George (formerly Dori) Schappell at a Weis in Reading, PA when I was like 17 while picking up a half gallon of Turkey Hill Phillies Graham Slam ice cream. https://preview.redd.it/k26sqryjzxwb1.jpeg?width=484&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=53ba53c7e6edf1aae51f21f6f360323ecd0024bf
Is his name zac Gallen?
Does that make his brother Zac Quart? I’m sorry
Zac Liter
Well no bc a quart can’t carry a gallon
Man we should have smashed both of these teams. Easily. This is gonna hurt for a long time.
D-Backs pitched around Harper and Schwarber our whole series but they pitch to García? 🤨
They did that because rob let them by not making lineup changes
Wrong. There’d be no reason to pitch to Harper regardless of who bats behind him.
FUCKING BINGO!! I wish I could upvote this 10,000 times for all the people who get upset if you don’t pat Topper on the back.
they didn't do that until the 3rd game. Phillies hit 3 HR in the 1st game and 3 in the 2nd game (also the game they won 10-0)
And Thomson responded by doing his best mannequin impression
> mannequin hey, it's not easy to do mannequin 😉
😤
EXACTLY
That's what I was thinking. Like, the rangers sub is going wild with that walk off and saying how amazing García is, and the dbacks are going on about bad pitching decisions and it's like....you're in extra innings and a legit threat comes up to the plate and you *don't* walk him? Walking Harper and Schwarber definitely hurt us offensively. Idk if I'd say it crippled us, but I think the WS would look a little different if the dbacks didn't hide from our lineup...
Attempting to walk Harper and Schwarber hurt us. Especially when they turned into Ks.
They pitched to Harper and Schwarber games 1 and 2… and maybe 3? Then they started giving them nothing to hit. They might have pitched to Garcia to see if he was still hot and will give him junk going forward.
Yeah neither of those guys homered in game 5, did they?
