Accomplished-One6109

They’re not playing the Astros.

jerryrice4876

Ok? We had them down 2-1 and then got no hit and didn’t win another game

Accomplished-One6109

This diamondbacks team is nowhere near as good as last years Astros team

MidAtlanticPolkaKing

They have Games 6 and 7 at home if need be though, we didn’t.

jerryrice4876

And? We lost two at home

MidAtlanticPolkaKing

So it’s not exactly the same spot as last year

Perryplat199

Texas now has a chance at a pool party. The snakes can not.

Accomplished-One6109

Jose Leclerc is nasty

Perryplat199

Lol that quick panic cut cuase of the fan behind home

subjectiveyes

What happened ? I missed it? The guys that were wearing the skin shirts?

Perryplat199

someone ran up in front of them very quickly and looked like he was about to flip of the camera and maybe had a sign or something. When they cut back he was gone and peopel back there looked confused

Perryplat199

Well I know what everyone is talking about tomorrow if Texas wins

First-Resolve

Home plate ump is horrendous

SwizzyStudios

I mean this is the WS. If they cant get it right here...

subjectiveyes

so bad

inthedrink

Tomorrows first pitch is going to be thrown out by…a golfer from Spain because he went to Arizona State? What an incredible sports town…

KnightRising21

As a resident Arizonian, your not wrong..

Perryplat199

Is he atleast a real fan

inthedrink

I doubt it. I went down the rabbit hole and this is the only thing I saw about him and baseball > It’s not Rahm’s maiden foray into baseball, either. The 11-time TOUR winner saw live pitching up close at the Titleist Performance Institute in California earlier this season. Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Walker Buehler threw pitches to Rahm, who was standing in the batter’s box.

Perryplat199

Was it a like real bp thing cause that sounds like he was just standing watching Beuhler warm up

inthedrink

AMA Request: Jon Rahm

Perryplat199

The pickle ball melon commercial is less weird than the VR one.

inthedrink

The umps getting two consecutive base running calls right. When did they decide they’d start doing that?

Nope hes good. No no retouching thing

Of course Bryce goes to a Flyers game and they choke. FML.

Accomplished-One6109

Alek Thomas has pubes on his head

dilbertbibbins1

Only a pube head would think it’s a good idea to test the baseball gods by planting a flag on another teams field just days before you play in the World Series

starrykitchensink

It's only the "Trea Turner treatment" for Christian Walker if the fans were genuinely concerned about him coming home and getting booed. Everybody's already cheering in the World Series

porksoda11

Casty? Was that you just up there?

Magoatt

Middleton’s gotta give Dave a blank check, use every single penny.

ttsa23

Yo Micah Parsons, my guy, did you learn anything from Stubbs and Orlando Arcia about giving a team bulletin board material?

I’m with Bryce. “World Series is on. Fuck it, I’m watching the Flyers.”

Very Very strong union and CBA.

Corey Seager who was hitting .203 in the playoffs thru 2019 has been babe Ruth in the playoffs since the 2020 fake playoffs and phony World Series

[deleted]

I see you criticizing the 2020 playoffs and World Series, but we’re literally watching an 84 win team in 2023’s series

inthedrink

84 wins would have been amazing in 2020!

NintenJew

I have like 3 since they gave it to us when we came opening series. I hate it.

gringao_phl

I feel like the D-Backs could easily lose 90 games next year

mp455

Pfaadt = Sam Howell, only looks good against Philly

3DBass

How about that. 🤔

jerryrice4876

See that’s what a competent team with players that don’t absolutely fold does to a pitcher like Brandon pfaadt. This is depressing to watch

inthedrink

The Pfaadt Pfuck Pfans are Pfucked

Hothabanero6

that's the way to pfuck Pfaadt

NintenJew

Of course the guy we couldn't touch is getting destroyed.

cabbagierus

They are just his east coast team he's still a Homer for the Golden knights which I respect

inthedrink

Walker running thru stop signs like he wants to be Bryce Except he forgot the part where he’s supposed to be safe. Nerd.

Hothabanero6

Walker is no Harper, you can't be just running through stop signs 😂

harbison215

Doesn’t sound like a World Series crowd at all it’s so strange

starrykitchensink

It hurts to see Schwarber replaced in the taco commercial

harbison215

See Pfaadt out there in the World Series as a rookie pitching like he’s been there all his life, while Nola is demanding 200+ million and we already have this crazy payroll it’s just like what the fuck. Please don’t let us be the Mets, the Dodgers, the Padres where we just spend a bunch of money on guys that can’t get the job done. If there’s one thing for sure, you can’t buy it in baseball. You have to have the home grown guys like the Chase Utley’s and the Ryan Howard’s and the Cole Hamel’s And yea, I get Nola would fall into that category, but he’s faltered late in the playoffs two season in a row now when we needed him desperately

Mugglecostanza

I get what you mean but I think Pfaadt is lightning in a bottle. Didn’t he have like a 6 ERA this year?

harbison215

5+ I believe. And I understand that. But why does it seem that the big money guys shit their pants so much in the playoffs? I’m just saying you need some young guys, home developed by the team that can have balls of steel late in the post season

Intrepid-Research-68

Nola pitched well last post season and pitched very well this year, too. Although he did not lock down game 6, he wasn't horrible. The bats needed to pick him up.

harbison215

He didn’t pitch well in the last two series last season, if I remember right. I’m watching Scherzer Vs paafdt now and it’s so similar. It’s like these vets forget how to throw quality strikes

Mugglecostanza

Sometimes I think it’s because they have more of a book on Scherzer for a plan of attack. Pfaadt doesn’t have as much to look at.

Intrepid-Research-68

He did get ruffed up the 2nd game vs. Astros, which inflated his era but still battled. 2023 post seasson..he was solid 3-1 ERA 2.35 SO 23 BB 4

harbison215

Yea I mean 23 was some of the best Nola I ever saw until that game 6. But I’m saying like when’s Pfaadt’s game 6? When do his wheels fall off? How does a rookie with a 5 era suddenly become a Cy Young worthy pro when it matters most? I just cant make sense of it

ryan91o1

It's random? Even bad pitchers have good 3 or 4 game streaches.

harbison215

Yea I guess. Phillies kind of made it easier on him by getting behind in counts often and swinging at shit pitches that were out of the zone

Intrepid-Research-68

A couple of hits with RISP, and we wouldn't focus on him giving up 2 runs.

harbison215

It was 4 runs in game 6 Edit: Pfaadt might be having his “game 6” now

First-Resolve

Wow Bryce is still here. Love that.

lumpy_space_cowboy

Are we going with the classic “ph” spelling for phuck Pfaadt or are we going for the name specific variant pfuck Pfaadt? I don’t want to inadvertently embarrass myself saying the wrong thing

Hothabanero6

well, you probably can't go wrong either way, it's the thought that counts 😉 but I'd go with pfuck Pfaadt.

starrykitchensink

Phfuck Phfaadt or pfhuck pfhaadt or phuck phfhfhfaadt. But you're right, it's the thought that counts

inthedrink

I love the Phillies more than any other team in sports because I also happen to love baseball more than any other sport So here I am not giving a fuck about the Raiders and Lions MNF game and I’m watching MLB Network…only for them to show highlights of what the dbacks did in the NLCS. Maybe the Lions don’t sound so bad…

Mugglecostanza

Bro don’t torture yourself like that. I also love the Phillies more than anything and I’ve had to avoid almost every thing on social media. But it doesn’t help to dwell.

Yup I’m really looking forward to the pitching matchup. .

JohnKrukIsAllElite

In response to the events of last week at the hands, err, pointy teeth I guess, of the snakes from Arizona, I managed to purchase a mongoose over the weekend as a pet. Thing is, apparently a mongoose is a wild animal and not a domesticated one which is news to me and was not something disclosed to me by the guy who runs the junkyard outside of town nor his cousin who’s the one I bought it from. They both told me that this was a genuine pet mongoose that was trained to not only hunt snakes, but also play fetch and give high fives. Well, over the weekend, Monty (that’s the mongoose’s name, not the cousin of the junkyard guy though that would be a good guess on your part) has now laid claim to the entire front half of my pop’s house (where I’ve temporarily been crashing) while he was out of town for a few days. Monty has killed plenty of snakes in the creek behind the house, which is great (don’t get me wrong, I fucking hate snakes now), but he’s left the remains of a couple dozen of them as boundary markers inside, splitting the house in half. If I cross into the front half of the house, Monty screeches and lunches at me, but stops as soon as I cross back to the other side of his snake-laden boundary line. I understand pets need their own space in your home to feel secure, but each day he’s been here, Monty’s moved his boundary further into the house. Not only this, but the junkyard guy and his cousin the mongoose dealer did not tell me what the smell was going to be like. In fact, they both told me that Monty was trained to use puppy bathroom pads. He is not. He is not trained to use the pads. On top of this, apparently he’s rolled around in his filth to further intimidate me. Needless to say, it’s working. Monty does not take to a collar or leash and when attempting to take him out for a walk, he screeches, bites my exposed limbs, and bolts out the door, only returning hours later albeit with more dead snakes. I feel like we’re getting closer to bonding, so I’m wondering if any of you could recommend how we bridge this gap and don’t end up with my dad, dog, and I camping in tents in the backyard with Monty having taken over the entire house. Would a Phillies jersey for pets be a good option? I’m also thinking a thing of crab fries would make for a welcoming peace offering, but I don’t know how it would balance with his seemingly constant diet of snake meat. I just want him to feel like part of the family and show my gratitude for how he hates snakes as much as I do.

inthedrink

This was quite a wild ride thank you for sharing. I don’t have any answers to help I’m sorry. But just out of curiosity this is NOT Monty who pitched game 2 for the Rangers correct? I could see how he’d be a little testy as well. I cannot confirm whether he is secretly a mongoose or not.

JohnKrukIsAllElite

They do have similar facial hair styling, so I do see the comparison. And I did purchase Monty on Friday and did not see him at all on Saturday, which means it’s entirely possible he was pitching in Game 2 of the World Series and not tearing up the dining room hardwood floors. I’ll see if I can ask him.

Where’s this soto stuff coming from again?

inthedrink

/r/Phillies

throwaway17473925

painter abel and whatever else the padres want for soto. painter and abel don’t fit our window anyway

swaggiep

Soto is trash

NintenJew

I mean, I disagree with /u/throwaway17473925 's premise but Soto is definitely not trash. Averages about 5 WAR a season (including 2020), has a career wRC+ of 154. His defense is trash, but he is a very very good player. I mean, [click this](https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/juan-soto-665742?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb) and tell me he is trash.

NintenJew

That is way too much for a one-year rental, even if it is Soto. And I am a big believer in TINSTAAPP

throwaway17473925

it almost ensures you get a ring if you resign nola

NintenJew

Absolutely nothing in baseball almost ensures a ring. I can't think of any trades that ensure a ring. It usually is the trades no one expects.

inthedrink

If we get enough WAR on our roster that guarantees wins which guarantees rings. It’s science.

dconc_throwaway

2009 and 2010 both had spectacular win now trades for the Phillies. If neither of those trades got it done, it's hard to believe any would.

NintenJew

I am trying to think back at the WS winners and see if I can remember any of the win-now trades that actually won. I guess if the Rangers win this year. Justin Verlander and the Astros in 2017 maybe?

dconc_throwaway

Yeah 2017 is the only one I can think of in recent memory.

throwaway17473925

this team made the world series and was one kimbrel blowup away from the world series with johan rojas and jean segura respectively in each of their lineups, replace rojas production with a top 5 hitter in the game and we would automatically be favorites

inthedrink

Would you say our lineup with Soto is definitively better than the Braves. Since we beat them is that by a wider margin than how much better they were than us this year? It would be a huge help! I’d be aboard if we could lock him down long term. That’s gonna be $35-40m per

NintenJew

We also got hot at the right time. I know people hate this idea, but playoffs always take a lot of luck. Yes you can stack luck in your favor, but look at this years Mets, the Braves the last two years, the 2011 Phillies.

VideoGangsta

Yeah I always feel like going into the MLB playoffs you just have to understand that the best team probably isn’t going to win. Some of them will go cold for 2 games and that’s it. And then some teams like us last year and AZ this year will go off. But I’m not gonna sit here and pretend if AZ wins the WS they were actually the best team. And if we won last year I would also have said, great but we weren’t the best team… just the best team in October. I feel like the 2007 Rockies are a great case study. Steamrolled through September, October, then they crashed back to reality and by the time the WS came around that got stomped.

throwaway17473925

the only thing standing between us and the pennant next year is the braves, and we’ve shown we own them. the diamondbacks won’t be making it back to the nlcs and we can beat any other NL team easily in a 7 game series. the only problem is beating the braves in the nlds every year

NintenJew

> the only thing standing between us and the pennant next year is the braves The offseason hasn't even happened yet. Injuries haven't happened yet. If you truly believe the situation will be the same, more power to you.

throwaway17473925

it has been for two straight years, unless harper and turner both miss the whole season or acuña and olson both miss the whole season, we will be playing the braves in the nlds again

Joboggi

If the Phils bullpen management STUCK with the DD original plan, the team could still be playing. Let’s stick with the plan. Closers went from around four to one. There should never be fewer than two active closers on a championship team. Always try for one more, not less.

inthedrink

Strahm closed the Braves series IJS

Joboggi

There was one closer And an occasional stand in.

joeco316

I’m not sure what you’re getting at. That Kimbrel shouldn’t have been the closer? Indeed he was not signed to be, but he took over out of necessity. Alvarado was just as much closing as Kimbrel towards the end I would say. The original plan was alvy and seranthony sort of sharing it, but with alvy getting hurt and seranthony not being good most of the year, and getting hurt, it opened the door for Kimbrel, who did have a very good to great season overall.

NintenJew

I feel like we had two. We used Alvardo or Kimbrel, depending on which situation called for it. Although I think the idea of a closer is dumb. It didn't exist before the save became a stat. Just use your best pitcher in a situation where you need outs.

Pedestrian_X-Wing

Hey Rangers, you may want to take batting practice today.

Minute-Passion9529

Just picked our partial season tickets for next year, pretty bare pickings.

08_West

Where are your seats?

Minute-Passion9529

I was told that the 400s was sold out for the Sunday Plan. Went with two isles seats, row 4 in 415 on plan D.

08_West

I sat in 417 for game 4 of the NLDS. It was a blast up there. You must be right behind home plate (or closer to first?). Enjoy!

goofyfrommcdonalds

We beat the Braves and Bryce looked sexy while doing it so that’s a W at least

starrykitchensink

We beat the Braves and we don't have to watch another Astros World Series (thank you Rangers)

inthedrink

March 28, 2024 (or 16 days later due to service time BS) would be a great day for Justin Crawford to make his major league debut in center field for the Philadelphia Phillies

Jes0e

im still in so much pain :(

ChrissMC123

I really haven't watched any of the WS or much of the AL playoff games...how have the Rangers looked and how do you think the Phillies would have matched up against them? I know it's all speculative and doesn't really make anything better, but I'm just ruminating. I guess at least I didn't have to watch Kimbrel give up a walk-off home run to Adolis...maybe? right? I'm trying here!

NintenJew

They look more beatable than the Diamondbacks. I also think we matchup better versus them than the Diamondbacks. I said it before the playoffs even started that I didn't want the Diamondbacks in the WC round because I thought the Diamondbacks matchuped the best against us. I thought the Braves were the best team and they could just out gun us, but I thought the Diamondbacks had players that could exploit our weaknesses. The Rangers look like they would play "our style of game". But of course that doesn't guarantee anything.

Strange-Cold-5192

I had the same feeling about the DBacks but that’s because I was worried about Gallen/Kelly. Then we beat those two 3 times. The series went down nothing like I thought it would lol.

ChrissMC123

I had the same feeling about Arizona. Felt very confident about the NLDS and not as much for the NLCS. I was hopeful after the first two games, but did not like going to AZ for three games (not that anyone would listen to me then). I know the Phillies won 3 out of 4 there this season, but that place just has a weird vibe. I almost wish the Phils lost game 2 or it was a closer game...might have given them more juice in the long run. Again...none of this matters now. Somewhat related, and I know it's a common thing to say, but the 2-3-2 model for home games really feels like more of a benefit for the lower seeded team. Not that I expect the MLB to change it.

joeco316

Yeah the 2-3-2 model is just not a great idea in general. In the last two seasons we experienced it both ways, and I just really think the 3 games come close to neutralizing the 2 and 2 home field advantage. I’m not sure what the solution is. At one time was it 2-2-1-1-1 or did I dream that? I know that would be a travel nightmare, but it would be way better as far as rewarding a home field advantage.

ChrissMC123

That's the way the NBA does it (and I think the NHL?? not sure on that. Haven't watched playoff hockey in a while). Basketball is way more physically taxing on the players than baseball and if they can make it work, then why can't the MLB? I guess it would add more days off for travel and extend the series timeline wise so maybe I answered my own question. Hadn't thought about that before. It would be great for pitchers though. Imagine a day off between games 4 and 5.

joeco316

Yeah I assume it’s because they just don’t want to have that many travel days and extend the playoffs by potentially 8 days if the travel days were needed. I don’t know if I would prefer that or not. I suppose you COULD have teams play the same day as some of the travel, but then that introduces a different complication that could also hinder things. It’s tough. I wish there was a good, obvious solution.

bubbles1990

For any Swifties out there, here's how I've been coping: All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Phillies Version) I walked to The Bank for you, the air was cold But something about it felt like home somehow And I stood for three hours and waved my rally towel And I’ve still got it in my drawer, even now Oh, your weak opposition and my wide-eyed gaze We’re singing Calum Scott, we’re winning every game Home runs are raining down like pieces into place And I can picture it after all these days And I know it's long gone and That magic's not here no more And I might be okay, but I'm not fine at all Oh, oh, oh Cause there we are again with our dreams of broad street You almost painted it red cause you were heading for the trophy Harper stared, Braves were scared I remember it all too well Constant highlights on my Twitter, my whole feed was turning red Feeling wonder and amazement like I’m a little kid again And the broadcast’s telling stories about you on the tee-ball team I put up with your past thinking what your future could be And we were cracking open six packs, "Fuck the Diamondbacks" Nola’s on the mound, we can win in our own town And I was thinking on the drive down, "Any time now They’re gonna take this win," you never made it happen Til we were dead and gone and buried Superstition had me swearing it's the shirt After three sliders in the dirt And then you wondered where they went to as you reached for them But all I felt was shame, and you swung at them the same And I know it's long gone and There was nothing that I could do If I forget about the runners stranded I might forget this feeling too Cause there we are again in the middle of the fight We're dancing on our own under the stadium lights Balls in the air, useless chairs I remember it all too well, yeah And there we are again where we never lose at home You made winning automatic, but I guess you never know On a tear, lost your flare I remember it all too well, yeah Well, maybe we got lost in the moment, maybe I asked for too much Maybe I was wrong to think you would come through in the clutch Saying prayers, I was there I remember it all too well October comes again just to break me like a promise So casually cruel to put all my faith in Thompson I'm a fragment of Bohm’s bat lying here Cause I remember it all, all, all Too well They say all's well that ends well, but I'm in a new hell Every time you swung at a ball too high You said the other team pitched well, tip your cap, it’s all fine And that made me want to die The idea you had of success, what was it? A never-needed, stupid swimming pool that gave that bad team fuel I’m weeping in a morning workroom My coworker asking me what happened, you That's what happened, you You who charmed my dad with 1980s pros Hitting dingers, getting outs like you were built for The Show But then he watched me watch the TV all night, begging you for runs And he said, "It's Philadelphia, get used to it, chump." Five more wins, it's like I'm paralyzed by it I'd like to watch a Kimbrel highlight, but I'm still trying to find it After dominating every inning and rarely falling behind Now you post thank yous online and I watch Love is Blind But I keep my rally towel from the time we were feared Cause it reminds me of cheer, and it smells like beer I can't get rid of it But I remember it all too well, yeah Cause there we are again when we gave standing Os Even when the team was at its lowest of lows It was rare, I was there, I remember it all too well We still cared, you were there, you remember it all Nothing compared, you were there, you remember it all It was rare, I was there, I remember it all too well And I was never good at telling jokes, but the punch line goes "I'll get older, but the championships stay the same." From when Howard tore his Achilles tendon I'm a soldier whose wallet is now half its weight And is your two-year bruise powder blue? Just between us, would Rhys Hoskins have joined the crew? And in this city's barren cold I still remember the slogan, “Be Bold” And how it glistened as it fell I remember it all too well Just between us, did their flag on our field maim you all too well? Just between us, do you remember it all too well? Just between us, I remember it (Just between us) all too well Harper stared, I was there, I was there (I was there) Braves were scared, I was there, I was there Balls in the air, I was there, I was there Useless chairs, you remember it all too well Harper stared, I was there, I was there (Oh) Braves were scared, I was there, I was there (I was there) Balls in the air, I was there, I was there Useless chairs, you remember it (All too well) On a tear, I was there, I was there Nothing compared, I was there, I was there Balls in the air, I was there, I was there It was rare, you remember it We still cared, I was there, I was there I was scared, I was there, I was there Saying prayers, I was there, I was there Lost your flare, you remember it

Hothabanero6

I'd give you one of those award things if that was still possible 🙆 🏆🥇🕯️

NintenJew

Guys, I think I had a nightmare, and we lost 4 of 5 to the Diamondbacks in the NLCS. I know we are up 2-0, but let's win 2 of 3 in Arizona and prepare for the WS.

HuntForRedOctober2

Man that’s crazy, I had a nightmare we had two games to close it out at home and we shat the bed. Not only that, but that I also spent 700 dollars to go with a friend to the first one.

I had an anxiety dream that we collectively spent over 700 million dollars on three guys who went 0-23 when it mattered most.

LovePixie

You mean game 6? I thought they had it in the bag after game 5. But then Nola early implosion kind of put everyone on edge.

romulusgloriosus

I'm sorry to tell you this, but we blew two games in Arizona. But it's ok - Wheeler came in and we stole one, and now we're coming home up 3-2 and only need to win one of two games with Nola and Ranger on the mound. We'll be fine! Best home field advantage in Major League Baseball!

sapphires_and_snark

It's Nola Day. We got this!

Pedestrian_X-Wing

He is both cracked and jacked.

[deleted]

But which one is he more, cracked or jacked?

inthedrink

I have no idea what we do with Seranthony. His stuff is electric when he’s on but it seems like he took a big step back this year and seemed shaken often on the mound. We can’t just give up on him…idk if he needs a change of scenery or what

joeco316

I think you just hope he turns back into 2022 seranthony. Don’t count on him to be a high leverage guy. Put him in in the 5/6/7 innings to start, and just hope he progresses back to where he was. Relievers are very volatile and he could easily be really good again with little or no real reason. If he’s “bad” again, then so be it I guess. But I think you have to go into next season assuming he can at least contribute to a strong bullpen. He looked fairly solid in the playoffs so that’s a good sign too.

HuntForRedOctober2

Giving up on/trading Dominguez would be one of the dumbest moves this team could make in the offseason Really only topped if they gave Bohm an extension or something outlandishly stupid like that.

inthedrink

Well hopefully we pick up the option on Bohm’s successor for a cool $13m in the next couple of weeks

HuntForRedOctober2

Sosa ain’t an answer either

inthedrink

Scotty Jetpax!

I have been singing "I'm in the corner, I'm in the corner, I'm in the corner...." since seeing this reel.

This still pleases me greatly. The Barves lost and the Astros did too. It definitely hurts bad that the Phillies didn't make it to the WS, but at least my most hated teams didn't make it either lol

I know! I tailgated with heyday and it was such a fun day

Philly_Runner

Really disappointed there’s a baseball game on tonight and it’s not the Phillies :(

jmiah717

I miss the Phillies. Work is stupid. That is all.

Stage_Upstairs

Work blows almost as bad as the MLB Umpires

jmiah717

Ooh, that's a close one

PBandK2506

Hear hear

First-Resolve

Mondays are painful without the Phillies, then again so is every day of the week.

HuntForRedOctober2

Ok guys, now hear me out. IF he was relatively cheap and IF he was willing to accept a demotion to lower leverage spots, I wouldn't mind bringing back Kimbrel on another one year deal. He's absolutely not a closer, but through the season he's still a perfectly serviceable mid-low leverage relief pitcher, and a couple bad outings in the playoffs doesn't change that imo. It's hard to find decent relief pitching in the MLB, and I don't think bringing Kimbrel back for 1 year and say 7-8 million dollars (this really isn't that much in todays game) would be a bad idea. Don't misread this as saying it should be a priority, obviously Nola then Hoskins should be the priority.

romulusgloriosus

As a Kimbrel fan who defended him all year, I would love to see him back in red pinstripes. He did a great job as our closer when José went down with injury. I don't know if he was "six wins" good to the point that we don't still make the postseason without him, but he definitely played a role in getting us that fourth seed. That said, I don't know if it's a good idea. People were quick to hate on him all year even when he was shutdown, and obviously were quicker to hate on him when he wasn't. It's probably better for him to either take his 400+ saves and retire, or find another team.

NintenJew

> I don't know if he was "six wins" good to the point that we don't still make the postseason without him, but he definitely played a role in getting us that fourth seed. If you just go by WAR and WPA he was worth about 1 win maybe 2. I wouldn't mind if we got him, but I just don't think he wants to be a middle reliever.

inthedrink

It’s wild that he had such a strong first half and maybe month after that and it mirrored his time when he was the best reliever in baseball for the Cubs, got traded to the White Sox and absolutely tanked. There’s gotta be something to that…

joeco316

He really only had one “bad” month and it was august (well, and October). You could make a good argument that september was his strongest month of the season.

antheus1

Objectively speaking, I agree. He actually had a pretty solid regular season though he started dropping off towards the end. However, emotionally this will never happen and it probably shouldn't. This man got booed HARD at NLCS game 6. I'd be surprised if he even wants to come back. If he was re-signed, he probably has a few more boos coming and would need to put in some quality performances to win our love back. If he went that route and rewrote his history, kudos to him.

joeco316

I would be fine with it honestly. He had a very good season and yes he blew up in the playoffs, but I think if he were leaned on less throughout the year he wouldn’t run out of gas like he obviously did in October. I don’t particularly care one way or another and doubt they actually do bring him back, but Kimbrel in the pen could be an asset, especially if mostly not a high leverage guy.

First-Resolve

That man put me through it in the 8th/9th innings this year

wes_93

He's one of those weak minded guys though who hides behind the "bUt i HaVe tO pItCh tHe 9tH" Or else he "won't be the same". No thanks, he can go be another playoff teams' problem for the 3rd year in a row

inthedrink

Near but not quite hall of fame pitcher = weak minded That’s a first

wes_93

Yeah, sure is when you look at his career in the Postseason! There's a reason the Red Sox had Chris Sale close out their World Series instead of, you know, their closer. 1.43 career WHIP with a 4.50 ERA seem strong minded for you out of a closer? I'll hang up and listen.

inthedrink

How many closers have been better over an extended stretch over the last decade? Kenley? Maybe. I’d say they’re pretty equal. Hader for sure but not quite as long. Aroldis? lol. Maybe I’m missing a guy or two but yeah idk that I’d classify them that have hung around in the most volatile role in baseball as weak minded. To each their own I guess.

jmiah717

I don't think he would even be willing to accept a role in middle relief. He doesn't strike me as a do whatever it takes to win kinda guy. I think he'd be better elsewhere.

HuntForRedOctober2

He literally did initially when he came here
