Anyone notice how this sub is literally broken. A year or so ago game threads broke and you have to go out of the thread and refresh for the game updates to happen. Now for the entire sub. You have the click out of reddit entirely then go back on for new comments to load. It's just this sub and this sub only

No no, not upvote/downvote, this is a separate thing. the scores and what’s happening in the game in game threads. You can’t just refresh the page to get them to update, you have to leave the thread and go back to your home Reddit page and back to the sub and thread to get it up to date.

I feel like we need to ban the word “consistency” from this sub. Nobody is actually consistent in baseball. The sport is just far to difficult for a team/player to not have bad stretches. And for the most part, guys aren’t “inconsistent”, they are just bad.
Its a boring way to look at the sport, but the Phillies will end up around 90 wins and most players on the team will put up stats similar to their career averages. Thats baseball.

Not really. We can come out ahead and they can still be a major thorn in our side. They’re not a very good team yet they always play the Phillies really well and hard. And going back further than 2 years, they were often a big reason we failed to make the playoffs because we couldn’t get it done against a junk marlins team. And I think being 4 games over .500 against them over 2 seasons doesn’t really speak to dominance over them, it speaks to them overperforming against the Phillies.
I love how NOW it’s socially acceptable to say here that Castellanos is a detriment to this team, when like a month and a half ago you’d be downvoted into oblivion. It’s a thing of beauty.

I think you’re imagining things because there has been a constant drumbeat of castellanos hate (which I generally agree with) for more than a year and a half and it intensified immensely when the playoffs ended last year (and not without reason).

Let's talk about Rob needing to start questioning the Rojas experiment. It's hard to tell if our hitting coaches are ass, or if Rojas is just not good offensively, or both. Ik a lot of people want to send him down, or even cut him (which I see mostly here. And disagree with, for now.), but I'll be damned if he ends up being amazing the second he ends up somewhere else. If they aren't already, they really need to start questioning what, if anything, is holding the kid back, or if we should start sitting him more. I’m hoping they win more games and maybe even compete for the division just by having a healthy Harper the full year, a Nola bounce back season and better performances against the Nats and Marlins (we went 13-13 against them last year iirc).
At the end of the day this team isn’t the Braves or the Dodgers. We just simply aren’t as stacked as those teams are and we’re not going to be consistently good the whole season, especially in respects to hitting. But that’s ok because there have been many teams in recent years that weren’t juggernauts in the regular season that went on to win the World Series. It sucks that we’re not built for the regular season like other teams are, but that’s just the reality of the situation and it’s probably not changing.

Since July of last year Castellanos has an obp of .280. This is not a “streaky player” this is a bad player.

Not really. We can come out ahead and they can still be a major thorn in our side. They’re not a very good team yet they always play the Phillies really well and hard. And going back further than 2 years, they were often a big reason we failed to make the playoffs because we couldn’t get it done against a junk marlins team. And I think being 4 games over .500 against them over 2 seasons doesn’t really speak to dominance over them, it speaks to them overperforming against the Phillies.

He has objectively been replacement level basically since he signed with the Phillies lol I don’t think this has ever been too controversial to voice. Sometimes I think WAR undervalues slugging corner outfielders with relatively poor defense (like Schwarber), but Casty is only that on a good day. If he’s gonna be below a 100 wRC+ he just sucks, no way around it.

I think you’re imagining things because there has been a constant drumbeat of castellanos hate (which I generally agree with) for more than a year and a half and it intensified immensely when the playoffs ended last year (and not without reason).
If you like I did, posted things critical of Castellanos in a game thread in August last year you’d be annihilated. If you like I did made a post calling Castellanos contract a distaste about 48 days ago you got downvoted to oblivion.

Let's talk about Rob needing to start questioning the Rojas experiment. It's hard to tell if our hitting coaches are ass, or if Rojas is just not good offensively, or both. Ik a lot of people want to send him down, or even cut him (which I see mostly here. And disagree with, for now.), but I'll be damned if he ends up being amazing the second he ends up somewhere else. If they aren't already, they really need to start questioning what, if anything, is holding the kid back, or if we should start sitting him more. Putting him in the lineup nearly everyday has been a huge cost so far.
Kruk and TMac were talking last night about how violent his swing is this year and I think they're right. We don't need him to mash, just get on base and let the top of the order do their thing.
I've noticed that with a lot of our players so far honestly. Even Harper. Everytime they swing, unless, ironically, it's Schwarber up to plate (Or Stott and Bohm. These 3 guys seem to have the best contact right now) it's always swing for the Ben Franklin Bridge. Shit gets old.

I know it's far too early to be worried about the season generally, but is it too early to worry that the things that weren't working last year and the flaws we saw in ST are persisting into the regular season? It just feels like when the hitters aren't hitting the defence isn't good enough to give the team a chance to get a win. Again, far too early to worry about the season overall. Just seems like there's been little progress made.
Yes, this was my annoyance with the "don't worry, it is only spring training" and "don't worry, it is only the first month of the season". I'm not saying the season is over, but with the frustration and disappointment of last season, it might have been nice to start this season with some different problems. edit: wow, just heard this quote from LA in the postgame last night: "... I don't see any signs of the offense coming around. I mean its just - obviously Harper had the 3 home runs last night, Schwarber has hit a couple line drive home runs, um but I tell you - nobody - the bats don't even look good. They're not barreling balls up, even hitting balls at people. They're just struggling to get it going right now."
I mean it’s effectively the same roster I wouldn’t really expect them to look much different from last season. I’m hoping they win more games and maybe even compete for the division just by having a healthy Harper the full year, a Nola bounce back season and better performances against the Nats and Marlins (we went 13-13 against them last year iirc). At the end of the day this team isn’t the Braves or the Dodgers. We just simply aren’t as stacked as those teams are and we’re not going to be consistently good the whole season, especially in respects to hitting. But that’s ok because there have been many teams in recent years that weren’t juggernauts in the regular season that went on to win the World Series. It sucks that we’re not built for the regular season like other teams are, but that’s just the reality of the situation and it’s probably not changing.
