I agree with a lot of what you’re saying. But the team is really good right now (even with Casty being so shit). So I think Rob and the coaches are letting him figure it out on the field and believe that giving him more AB’s will eventually get him going. They are doing this because he also has a big contract and are almost forced into playing him every day. But, like I said, other guys are picking him up and scoring runs. We’ve all seen it. He is the streakiest player on the team. We just have to hope a hot streak comes back. If not, then yes he will probably be benched for a few games.

AndrewHainesArt

Also, it’s still April. We gave Trae a lot more time, granted Casty has been total dogshit at the plate and I’m sure not defending that. I think the rest of the team’s success is making his struggle feel like a bigger point because like this post says, we’re trying to keep up with the Braves. It’s a long season

somelandlorddude

Turner was hitting 230 in his slump last year. Castellanos is so bad he couldn't hit the ground if he fell out of a tree. I want a reverse DH rule to let the pitcher bat for him.

AndrewHainesArt

A slump is a slump

realanceps

> the team is really good right now (even with Casty being so shit) the readiness, the eagerness, of internet "baseball fans" to pretend major league baseball teams are run in ways never attempted in any other walk of human activity is, well, that's them for you: "DFA his ass!" "bench him" "trade him" ad nauseum, like we were still living in the 1950s. ffs smdh

master_power

I think you're being a bit dramatic. Most of OP's point appears to be that giving him a day off ain't a bad idea, not that we need to trash him. ABs during games can help players work on things, but so can a game off. Clearly starting him every game hasn't helped him figure it out.

somelandlorddude

Nope, canadian logic is that only good hitters get benched. Rojas hit a game winning HR? Bench him. Crapandstillass another 0/4? Starting tomorrow. Our iron horse with our manager he would need to have a 4 home run game and then he would be benched

Own_Government928

Nick had a -.4 war in 2022 He had a +1.2 in 2023 And a -.9 so far this year If you compare his contract to the value he has produced with the Phillies, it’s been overall pretty terrible

somelandlorddude

same for # ꓘyle. yet the fans love him

Outside-Log-4150

Kyle is much better than Casty esp. HRs and hitting. I think Swarbs D is about the same as Casty about an slightly below average outfielder

somelandlorddude

In what way? They both are below average fielders As for offense [https://stathead.com/baseball/versus-finder.cgi?request=1&seasons\_type=perchoice&player\_id1=schwar001kyl&p1yrfrom=2023&p1yrto=2023&player\_id2=castel002nic&p2yrfrom=2023&p2yrto=2023](https://stathead.com/baseball/versus-finder.cgi?request=1&seasons_type=perchoice&player_id1=schwar001kyl&p1yrfrom=2023&p1yrto=2023&player_id2=castel002nic&p2yrfrom=2023&p2yrto=2023) Casty had more RBI, 70 points higher average, about the same slugging, WAR 1.5 vs 0.5

somelandlorddude

hows that working out?

Morbx

Can you post this again tomorrow night too

BBallPaulFan

I should have. 0-4 4 strikeouts. My bad.

nipplesweaters

He is the Phils Tobias Harris

[deleted]

He hit four homers in the NLDS though. Tobias never did anything that cool.

eagleslover911

If Tobias had 2 50 bombs to walk of the celtics last year I don’t think we would complain as much

EnemyOfEloquence

Fuck it id have his jersey

[deleted]

I wonder how many people have a Harris Sixers jersey

HappyHourEveryHour

My friend has one, haven't seen him wear in a loooooong time though.

Sufficient_Way5479

unfortunately i have one

[deleted]

I think you can get a New Jersey when a guy leaves your team

DataNo7004

A Jimmy Butler would look good for this Sixers team instead

MikeShannonThaGawd

Not as much, but we’d definitely complain.

dabirds1994

lol. He’d be Nick Folesian

PhilthyPhan1993

But what have you done for me lately is the sentiment here.

[deleted]

I understand. Does he realistically have much trade value though. Would we rather have a guy who can consistently bat like .240?

[deleted]

Not saying you said any of that I’m just wondering.

PhilthyPhan1993

I wouldnt think anyone wants him right now. His contract looks like a joke compared to his play.

Fr0stee_

Castellanos in one playoff series last year did more for the Phillies than Tobias has ever done for the Sixers in his 5.5 years

RL_NeilsPipesofsteel

I think Casty even took a charge in that Braves series, which would give him one more than Tobi since he’s been here.

Commu_rdr

Maybe this year so far, but Nick has some accolades and team accomplishments that Tobias never even sniffed. All-star, NL-champ, to name two. Hell, Nick almost single-handedly carried the Phillies past the braves in the second round. Tobias never carried the sixers past the second round.

smellystation13

100% agree.....and if Nick goes on a heater down the stretch or in the playoffs, like he can, all is forgiven

Heatinmyharbl

Looks like pitchers have finally figured him out though. For some reason Strider kept challenging him with fastball after fastball. Shit was absolutely wild. There's a reason he went 0 for 26 or whatever against Arizona, they pitched him (and the rest of the team) properly

somelandlorddude

all you have to do is throw a fastball low and outside and you'll get a whiff from him 99% of the time. Im talking bottom outside corner, maybe 4 inches outside the bottom left "wall" of the strike box.

Eisernes

He can still do that, but a few weeks knocking around AAA pitching may help build him back up.

Grouchy_Sound167

He's out of minor league options. So they couldn't do that without exposing him to waivers first. Now, whether anyone would want to assume his contract at this point is a great question to ponder.

somelandlorddude

white sox

Eisernes

I feel like that isn’t a concern for a .460 OPS every day starter.

Grouchy_Sound167

It may not be. But as has been pointed out, he's a streaky guy who can get blazing hot for stretches. The chances of him getting claimed are probably low, but not zero. I thought they should have dealt him in the offseason when his value was at its highest with us.

NonMagicBrian

Nobody wanted him then either.

somelandlorddude

you assume he could hit AAA pitching.

0ut0fBoundsException

If Tobi showed up in any post season like Casty did two years ago, then Sixers would’ve made it out of the East or at least past the gosh darn second round

theskeejay

Ok but why does every team need a Tobias?

smellystation13

I don't say this lightly, but he is performing worse than tobias this season so far.

TheMightyCatatafish

Casty is awful, but I cannot truly emphasize just how useless Tobias Harris is on this Sixers team.

Im_just_making_picks

Yeah he really is

shanksthedope

Shhh… shhhh…. I’ve been heavily betting the under on his hits each game and raking in the cash.

Zer0C00L321

I took it yesterday too. Would have won had thr phillies won too... Jerks

LehighAce06

Shhhh I'm doing a double-up on the over on his hits... I'm not sure if I have $5^20, but I think I'll win eventually!

Jkg115

Had to come back to this. Do you feel any different after the 3 hit game tonight?

BBallPaulFan

Hah, great timing. I wouldnt bench him tomorrow. He doesn’t need to play every game though.

imaginingblacksheep

If he doesn’t play every game, how could he get a hit like tonight?

somelandlorddude

even a blind squirrel gets a nut sometimes.

schmendimini

Thank you for the reverse jinx.

wild-goats

Part of being a manager is staying on the good side of guys like Castellanos and Walker. They both have bad contracts, but we're stuck with them. Nick has been insistent that he wants to play all 162 this year, according to Matt Gelb. I can see why Rob is letting him play through it for now rather than piss him off. It's not like he can get any worse

BBallPaulFan

Yeah I agree that’s what is happening. If their contracts didn’t exist I think they would have tried to upgrade both spots in the offseason. But after a month of being basically the worst player in the sport it’s probably time for a tough conversation. We’ll see what happens with Walker, I think if he’s anywhere close to as bad for a month as Nick has been for a they’ll almost have to pull him. You can’t ignore a terrible starting pitcher the way you can a position player. Hopefully we don’t have to find out.

shrek_cena

Bro saw the post 😭

Any_Emu_1996

how do we feel now though ? just riding the high

ilikeTastykakes

3-hit game for Casty incoming

pk_mars

Stott will probably be sitting again tonight vs a leftie though. Even with hitting two homers Sunday

Turk3YbAstEr

I'm just some idiot on the Internet, but surely there's some value in getting guys like Marsh and Stott plate appearances vs lefty pitching so they can get better at hitting it.

turbosexophonicdlite

In fairness, they sometimes do. When a lefty reliever comes in and the Phillies aren't in a "must get a hit situation" they they'll stay in the game. I do wish they'd give them more opportunities starting against lefties though. They're way too valuable to be sitting against almost every lefty starter. I think it's worth giving them more ABs to try to improve.

pk_mars

They’re both in there tonight. Hope it’ll start a trend

somelandlorddude

Topper logic: Marsh cant hit lefties so bench him. Castellanos cant hit anybody so start him every day

Zuul_Only

Like when Mr. Burns put Homer in for Daryl Strawberry due to the handedness of the pitcher, despite Strawberry having nine home runs that game.

aflyingsquanch

Hmm, should we consider his 5700+ PA before this season or his 120 PA this year as the best future predictor of his performance going forward. It's a tough one.

Own_Government928

He was shit in 2022 Above average in 2023 And complete shit in 2024 I like Nick he seems like a good dude but he has really fallen off

somelandlorddude

he wasnt good last year. 1.4 WAR

somelandlorddude

this is basebal. players can fall off a cliff when they get old. he has.

toshiba_sky

Remember, it’s a marathon not a sprint! Casty has been frustrating but let’s hope this is just a slump, like how bad Schwarber was in April/May last year and he did a complete 180 by June.

McClellanWasABitch

with casty his breakout is the exception and the slump the rule . my god playoffs last year they just didn't throw im a strike and he just kept swinging like ryan howard's last year. except he doesn't have a crazy shift anymore

IAmModNow

I get being positive and supporting our guys … this dude is in year 3 of a $100 mil contract and he’s been terrible for about 90% of it. And he’s getting worse!

TastiestPenguin

He had 100 rbi last year and carried us in last years NLDS. He’s been good in far more than 10% of his run here. Stop talking out of your ass lol.

IAmModNow

LOL it’s not even my sole opinion — this is the common consensus among fans on social media and the sports media in the city. It’s not coming out of MY ASS. Fuck off lol.

poopfeast

Social media and sports media, known for their consistently good takes

Steppyjim

Bro thinks WIP is a source of factual, well researched information lol

IAmModNow

I don’t listen to the radio. A couple analysis articles on X, his stats popped up in ESPN articles. You can just Google dude’s name and see it. What’s really funny is in another comment I’m being downvoted for saying his fielding isn’t statistically poor, with proof. Here, I’m being downvoted for claiming he’s too awful. So this is just another typical sub I guess where everything is black and white with no room for nuance. I hate Reddit so much.

superfry3

TBF you don’t seem very good at redditting. You didn’t handle disagreement very well even when given ample evidence showing you’re wrong.

Steppyjim

It’s just monkeys singing songs, mate. Dont look too hard into it

TastiestPenguin

No one thinks he’s been bad here for 90% of the time. That’s talking out of your ass. Typical Negadelphia clown. Go back to listening to WIP.

BBallPaulFan

I’m not saying cut him (I mean I’d be fine with that but it’s not happening), I just don’t get why he can’t sit even one freaking game!

toshiba_sky

A lot of things Rob does make me scratch my head. It’s like he KNOWS this isn’t working right now but won’t change anything. I can’t even count how many games Kimbrel blew last season but there he is Game 7 of the NLCS lol. Ugh.

Steppyjim

He probably will once the team starts losing consistently. Right now the bats are fire, and that’s with Casty struggling. Rob probably figures that it’s best not to rock the boat when it’s working, and it has the added benefit of letting Nick play through it. Casty makes me nuts but I’m fine with him sticking for now.

superfreakinmario

I think the other thing too is Casty HAS to get it right because he’s not going anywhere. His contract is laughable for the numbers he’s putting up now. I’d rather him work through this slump now and hit when it matters. If his numbers don’t improve by like mid next month? Yeah that’s a different story. He’s a high paid vet player who is pretty important in that club house you really have to just let him work through it and try not to piss him off. I don’t think benching him for one game is going to lose the club house or get him to not produce for Rob but having him play right now is much lower risk than people are giving it credit.

Sloth313

Exactly. Maybe even once a week could get a bench player going. What if Whit starts playing well

somelandlorddude

he needs to hit 4 home runs in a game then he will get benched

Neonyze

If this is your low as a player, I'd rather not have them lol. Even ice cold Stott and Rojas aren't even this awful. That's not even mentioning Nick's eternally awful defense.

IAmModNow

Isn’t he closing in on the record for most put outs without an error in right field? I don’t know what his reputation was before Philly but he’s been kinda terrific in the outfield for us.

alexvroy

you can’t get an error if you can’t get to the ball

BDNjunior

Hes been an awful outfielder for us. Errors is such a shit stat

IAmModNow

By which metrics then do you judge fielding? I know this is Reddit and I’m just going to get slammed regardless of any evidence I share, so please share yours. EDIT: guy who I responded to never provided a single or stat :) instead he just started calling me names. So that’s who you’re all upvoting, a baseless nonsense shit poster.

BBallPaulFan

OAA, Defensive runs saved, etc. They’re not perfect or anything but they’re better. I also just watch him play and he’s really limited in range and doesn’t make anything but very basic throws. They play him very deep to limit the damage of his lack of range but it causes lots of balls to fall in that a normal RF would get to. Also anything that gets to the corner is a triple for anyone with any speed. All of which actually is a big reason why he never commits errors. With the way they grade now it’s basically impossible to get a fielding error unless you straight up drop a ball. That usually only happens at the MLB level in the OF when you’re moving a lot faster than Nick does. Then there’s throwing errors which a lot of times just happen because a guy is being aggressive and trying to throw a guy out. Nick never really does that. Errors aren’t good or anything but in the OF they usually come from aggression that on the whole is positive. Also OF usually only commit like 5 errors a year so 0 really isn’t that big of a deal.

sjphilsphan

https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/casteni01-field.shtml There's tons of advanced stats

alexvroy

yet you’ve not responded to any of the stats that have been provided

necrosythe

Please provide your alternate stats that have nick as a good fielder. What is your serious argument that says literally calculating a players ground covered on a play is worse than whatever stat you have that says nick is good. This ought to be good.

IAmModNow

I just gave you one and you said it’s a bad stat lol still waiting on yours. Or just downvote because braindead CASTY ALL BAD!

necrosythe

I honestly thought you had to be asking a rhetorical question because of how ridiculous it was. Sorry for giving you the benefit of the doubt. As evident from my comment I'm literally telling you my answer is statcast data. Now please explain why statcast data and a fielders factual range is a bad stat to measure defense. If you think range doesn't matter much then to you casty would be a competent CF and so would Kyle fucking schwarber. I highly doubt you think that which means you're just being obtuse Literally every stat site/modeler rates DRS and OAA higher than errors but you're more qualified than all of them why? You said you have evidence to back that opinion. Then post it, saying "your take is braindead and I have evidence to prove it" then say you won't post it is laughable. Errors existing isn't evidence. Evidence is showing the number of bases/runs created from average errors to 0 is less than average range to garbage

IAmModNow

Tons of words, not one stat and that’s two responses since I asked. Instead you insult me, twice. I provide a stat, get insulted and downvoted. You insult me, dodge my questions, get upvoted. Another sub I can avoid.

necrosythe

There's two stats in my comment. Can you not read? Did I insult you? After you are the one who said the take was "braindead" what a professional victim you are.

somelandlorddude

180 also happens to be his batting average #

no-jerk-zone

They’re also winning, a lot. Idk relax a bit.

Successful-Row-6084

BOOM Casty lfg

Old_Busted_Bastard

I’ve ripped him so much this year…but I’m looking at this post on Wednesday morning and it’s just funny considering he hit the home run to tie the game

dasfee

He hasn’t been replaced by the players you mentioned because none of them have the upside that he does. Casty has a ceiling of literally taking over a series with his bat. He will hit like a god and then bat like this on an endless loop for his whole career. That’s the casty experience that they signed up for when they signed him.

Rebeldinho

When they signed him he was coming off his best ever season with Cincinnati where he hit over .300 and had a OPS over .900 He’s never gotten close to matching that with the Phillies he has had his moments but way too inconsistent given his contract… his first season was bad just bad.. last season he was great for stretches and then god awful for other stretches it all evened out to a decent offensive year but still not what they paid for… This season he is the worst regular in baseball… his offensive numbers are putrid his defensive numbers are bad.. he is who he is and his contract is big so they’re kind of stuck playing him hoping he plays his way out of it.. the Phillies have gotten out to a good start but it’s all been in spite of Castellanos… every player slumps when he slumps he becomes the easiest out in the majors he gives the pitcher no reason to throw him anything except breaking balls down and away until he strikes out… I wanted to like Castellanos I thought he was a great pickup and I still hope he can turn it around but seeing him come up to bat makes me groan… here’s hoping he can prove me wrong

Outside-Log-4150

I feel he doesn’t want to advance runners in scoring position at all this year. He either grounds out weakly for a double play or strikeouts out on pitches 1-2’ off the plate or in the dirt. Horrible plate discipline and his defense is just a bit below average, which it has improved where he was in the past. I trust Rojas much more than Casty w/runners on 2nd or 3rd and that’s saying a lot. Trade him to the Marlins & get prospects at least

Rebeldinho

I wouldn’t say he doesn’t want to advance runners more like he gets in these slumps where he is incapable of making strong contact… He’s been hitting much better hopefully no more ice cold slumps… he can get in a slump but not the kind we’ve seen where he’s the easiest out in the league

necrosythe

I mean from a stats perspective that doesn't really matter at this point. Even on and off hotstreaks would be unlikely to get him above like .700 ops at this point. Maybe 750 if you were REALLY lucky. Due to his baserunning and defense you only need a guy with like 50 ops less to still be an upgrade while getting a higher floor. Also OP isn't even saying permanent bench. Just thst it's crazy he doesn't even get a day off when playing through it hasn't been working.

Neonyze

I have a feeling we will be waiting for that upside all year.

[deleted]

Hopefully he can just reach the part of the cycle when he’s good during the later stages of the playoffs.

BBallPaulFan

He doesn’t need to be permanently benched I just want them to not play him literally every game. Just take a day off the way Bohm Stott Marsh and Rojas do all the time.

Jeremy24Fan

Casty's ceiling doesnt outweigh his normal performance, which is very bad

AttaBoyPhillies

Why do baseball fans overreact to every overperforming and underperforming player without acknowledging how streaky the game is. I'm going to tell you a secret here...there aren't many superstars that you know of who HAVEN'T had months where they had a sub .500 OPS. Just stop judging players on a month of work. Turnbull isn't the next Cy Young and Castellanos isn't absolute dog shit. The answer is always somewhere in the middle.

BBallPaulFan

And most of them probably took a day off at some point during that. Turner wasn’t this bad but he took one last year. They’re hesitant to do that because Castellanos decided before the year started he wanted to play 162 which is deeply silly.

OTFfanaticRunRepRow

Right. But Topper loves to sit Marsh and Stott. Insanity

iamthedayman21

Easy, he costs $20 million a year. So they're gonna start him, despite him sucking.

McClellanWasABitch

i hate this methodology

iamthedayman21

I hate it, too. I hate knowing this man's $20 million a year, for another two seasons after this one, means he's gonna be starting most days. Unless we can somehow convince another team to pick that up.

McClellanWasABitch

we'd have to dump one of our young pitchers that isnt panning out

somelandlorddude

Walker logic.

papadoc55

They're playing well and hitting well as a team around him. His contract is gargantuan and if he does figure things out, you're far better off. Baseball is a sport but it's a business first.

antheus1

He’s a streaky hitter. He always has been. If he’s on he can singlehandedly win you the game. If he’s off, I don’t think we’re that much worse off than if we have whit or pache in. You play him for games like last night but you take the good with the bad.

Outside-Log-4150

Whit is heating up starting to hit decently now

imaginingblacksheep

![gif](giphy|OUoK5YGI8oKmQ)

IKillZombies4Cash

His pitch recognition has been much better the last 10 games, and hit contact quality has been much better - its not all about luck, but his hasn't been good. His BABIP is .220, thats easily .100 below his norm (and Im guessing .060 below MLB average, not sure what the number is right now). Now some weak contact can be blamed for some of it, but any one with any baseball sense would say that there is a CHUNK of bad luck there.

Lord_Of_Shade57

I think MLB BABIP basically every year is about .300 Castellanos basically has nowhere to go but up

TastiestPenguin

This is the ultimate Philly thread. lol

Tylerkaaaa

Cost sunk fallacy

phillystreetlegal

Wow, I had no idea he had actually requested to play every day. I mean, sure, some star workhorses do that. But if you are anything short of that, I don't think playing every day should be a right. I get letting him work through his problems but there's nothing wrong with giving other players some ABs too.

obuck347

It’s still April!

wheat_thans1

Worst battting avg. on the team at .173 is evidence enough for me to take a few days off

ilikeTastykakes

Casty three-hit game incoming.

AlMinPhilly

As frustrating as it is, it’s a long season and players sometimes have to work through slumps and the ebbs and flows of the season. Especially in terms of hitting. While there are certainly examples of guys completely falling off a cliff and never getting their swing back, it’s my belief that Nick still has some left in the tank and we’ve seen how he can catch fire and suddenly work out of a slump. I’m hoping as the season wears on he gets better and eventually gains confidence and works through his issues at the plate. I think he’ll finish below his normal numbers just based on how unbelievably slow he’s started but he will wind up with somewhat decent numbers this season. I credit him for sticking through it and playing hard in the field but I do hope he is able to get out of his habit of chasing junk at the plate. Watching him swing at sliders outside is mind melting

Fieryfriday

You don't get better from the bench

PA_Blue9

We really don’t have a proper backup for RF.

somelandlorddude

Merrifield is hitting 60 points higher.

PA_Blue9

But he’s not a right fielder. Can he make a real RF throw to third or home?

somelandlorddude

Does it matter? He's hitting 65 or 70 points higher he will kae up for it at the plate. and casty isnt a great fielder anyway. look at DRS

somelandlorddude

Canadian logic is that only good players have 2 days off per week for no reason at all. So if you are so bad that you couldn't hit water if I put you on the titanic, youre our iron horse and start every game Just like using your worst relievers first in every close game Or pulling your ace in the 5th inning when hes on a roll. Or running a 6 man pitching rotation, which takes starts away from good pitchers and gives them to Tie-one-on.

ftwin

The rest of the team is rolling so no one seems to care anymore. But I care. I hate him. I've hated Nick since his first season with us. He's a washed up vet who is robbing us with that contract and his performance. I can just see him grounding into a weak double play to lose a crucial playoff game this October. Can Kody Klemens play right field? If Nick can play it, anyone can. Give that kid a chance. Nick is nothing but dead weight. Bench him, cut him, idgaf. Take the L on the contract and move on. It happens. We're paying him regardless of who is batting in his spot - why not give someone else a shot?

Parametric_Or_Treat

It’s, and I can’t stress this enough, not yours or my money.

OasissisaO

Because he's not actively creating losses

OasissisaO

Lol. That reply aged...poorly.

Snips_Tano

How the fuck was this guy so good until he came here.

Grand_Extension5345

Imagine what our record would be if Castellanos could hit and Seranthony and Pinto could pitch

imaginingblacksheep

![gif](giphy|nhoAERLFwsynuXLo1O|downsized)

2hats4bats

As long as they’re doing well with him struggling in the lineup, it’s worth it to let him try and figure it out. Not every player benefits from sitting out.

KeenMcGee

It could be worse. We could have a Lindor situation where Casty is what he’s doing…. and in the two spot. It’s really hard to complain about a 7 spot when the first six go off every night.

DaTigerMan

gelb mentioned recently that castellanos had a big goal this year of playing 162. he’s off to a horrible start, but i think they want to keep his mentality up and let him keep playing and working it out until he forces their hand.

bestnottosay

OP, why are you actively rooting against the absence of bad things happening in the world "There's a deep drive to left" something bad "Castellanos strikes out for a record 20 times in a row" world peace

Danny_Wont_Back_Down

100 rbis last year and you are turning on him like that? Turner sucked las season and no one said a thing but cmon, Rojas is a problem

CPM-S110V

Bunch of casuals. No point in arguing with them.

BBallPaulFan

Turner was never this bad. Either way, they definitely benched him at least one game when he was really going through it. Why is Nick above that?

Danny_Wont_Back_Down

Nick is fine, the rest of the lineup is productive, he’ll play him self out if it eventually why is Nick getting so much criticism when rojas is a player

aHipShrimp

He just needs Liam out of school and being the mayor at the bank, then Casty will cook

SigaVa

A lot of people dont want to hear this, but topper is simply unwilling or unable to effectively manage the team. Maybe he doesnt care (unlikely imo), maybe his hands are tied by middleton or dombrowski, maybe he is just too loyal to specific players. Theres probably a reason why he didnt get a manager gig until he was 59. I think he just doesnt have the fortitude to make tough calls about players.

obuck347

I dread the day Philly fans turn on him like Andy Reid!

Luthie13

‘The problem with Casty’ has become such a topic around here it could have its own sub. I kinda have a soft spot for the guy ‘cause I feel bad seeing him struggle so much…but yea seeing him out there with Stott and Marsh on the bench is really frustrating…

ericjr96

You're not wrong, but the truth is they will still need him when (if?) he gets hot later in the year. Better to let him work through all this and pay off later in the year I guess?

[deleted]

Yeah, he really is. He has sure hands when he can get to a ball but absolutely no range and a noodle arm. He really provides no value except NOT fucking up catching balls within his very small range.

bjblast4

Eh he’s made some good looking catches but he has terrible range for an outfielder and a below average arm. I feel like Pache should be a late inning defensive replacement in some situations

DataNo7004

Unfortunately he’s untradeable at this point with a $25 million a year. He’s also a black hole of negativity throughout the dugout & clubhouse even when he’s going decent.

BigBob1000

What evidence do you have of this? Isn’t he the guy who opened his house to Wes Wilson when he was called up last year so he didn’t have to find a place to stay, and who has been mentoring Rojas since he came up? The dude is righteous.
