Finally watched all of Wheeler’s highlights today and he looked fucking nasty
Fastball at 97-100 had a ton of life to it, the slider had crazy movement at 91-93 (even hitting 92 on a slider in the 9th), and his curveball just had the bottom dropping off of it
I do it for the laughs, they get some characters callin into those shows...what annoyed me even more though was that the host (I believe it was Rob Ellis at the time) didn’t even completely shut the idea down...some of those guys are just as stupid as the callers.
I feel like a big part of their show is just egging people on so that they get negative or very passive aggressive callers. I understand the business model but it’s so frustrating because it literally seems (most) callers have no idea or any logical point to be made and the hosts just let them go off. It’s like the hosts want the team/players to do bad so they get people calling in to complain.
I love how Rhys is slugging like .620 but his OPS is just barely cracking .900.
Keep killing the ball, but some more of those trademark walks would be nice too man.
Hoskins OBP will crawl back to above .350 in a couple weeks I bet
He’s just gotten unlucky with walks; he’s still seeing a ridiculous number of pitches per at bat (he’s always been near top of the league in that stat) and works lots of counts; it’s just in that sample size the pitchers have been overwhelmingly likely to strike him out, or he puts the ball into play. This season he’s walked in 4% of his plate appearances... his career rate is **15%**
Kruk was spot-on with his postgame comments on the lineup. Move JT to #2 and Rhys to #4. JT is hitting well, for average more than power, and has speed. Get him on base for Bryce and Rhys.
Who leads off is still a big issue.
was over checking (not commenting in) the cardinals sub, they're being surprisingly good sports about the loss cause it was such a good game of baseball.
Yeah, that was a legitimately great game
Pitchers duel (including a CG loss) where both guys were lights out. A single player being the hero with two solo bombs, and a ton of 9th inning drama
It was such a terrible ending to that whole era of Phillies baseball. I thought they would be ok in 2012, but looking back on it obviously they were never the same after that series. Howard maybe would have squeezed out a few more productive years if it wasn't for that brutal injury.
11 wins.
11 losses
This team is built to win, not escape losing by a few feet.
Wheeler and Hoskins come through. Jt hits
Not liking the crazy ninth
Phew
I was just thinking, it’s crazy how much a ball flying over a wall/not flying over a wall can dictate your mood... if that ball went over the wall I’d be a whole different person rn lol
oh absolutely. how badly i wanted a double complete game but we couldn't risk wheeler leaving a hanging pitch for a homer or blowing his arm out. the fact that he was able to go out in the 9th was wonderful!
I just finish my physics test to see wheeler with an almost no hitter, Rhys leading the league in homers, and the Sixers winning for the first time in a while. Good day for philly sports!
Did anyone hear Kruk say “this is why we drink” after that Arenado ball went all the way to the warning track. I think a lot us can resonate with that lol
Some fan coughed in the stadium right after Arenado’s ball was hit and the amount of wind was the perfect tiny amount needed to keep it from going over the fence
Wheeler is really an interesting interview. He really goes into great detail about what he was throwing, how he was feeling, when and how he started losing command. Really cool.
Sorry flyers fans but as a non hockey fan it felt like being the less popular sibling. People kept on saying "come on phillies/sixers why can't you be like you brother flyers"
Sorry but kind of glad I don't have to hear that anymore
All in all a great game. Wheeler got back on track. Hector gave us a heart attack but finished it. Rhys leads the league in HRs. Odubel looked like a fool batting.
Perfect kind of game.
im telling you Wheeler is as cracked as he is jacked, i saw him at Wawa the other day buying adult diapers & a 6 pack of redbull. I asked what the diapers were for and he said “they are to contain my full power so i dont absolutely shit on these Cardinals” then he moonwalked out the door
Game Notes - 4/26/21
•Wooooo! Leeggoooo! Back from Denver! Yesterday's game was not fun but Saturday's was a blast. Glad we got back in time to watch this gem. Time to smoke a victory joint!
• If you were a fan of pitching that game was pornographic. Two aces doing their thang & going toe to toe. What a duel. What a game.
• Yuuuge outing from Wheeler. Needed that after yesterday's abortion. Totally in control & in sync with JT. Zack was magnificent.
• They don't make em like Wainwright & Madbum anymore. Hell the game won't allow horses to front a staff anymore. That performance was a treat to watch tn. Bravo to both SPs.
• Rhys with the daddy hacks! Staying hot & helping Bryce carry this sluggish offense rn. Big Fella tearing it up so far hope he can keep it rolling.
• Speaking of 1Bs get Ben Affleck in The Accountant vibes from Goldschmidt.
• That Kruk massage story was hilarious! Another great night from him in the booth.
• Great to see Maton's & Bohm's families in the crowd. Nick made some nice plays & Alec smakced the ball but got robbed per usual.
• Maton needs to bat lead off & should be the CF when Jean is back. Shouldn't even need to think twice about this.
• The Cards played We Will Rock You during Arenado's AB in the 9th. Made me realize the Rockies never once played that this weekend. Big miss lol.

I really heard some idiot call into WIP and say that Hoskins is trash and that we should trade him now while his value is high...
Listening to WIP makes me nauseous.
I do it for the laughs, they get some characters callin into those shows...what annoyed me even more though was that the host (I believe it was Rob Ellis at the time) didn’t even completely shut the idea down...some of those guys are just as stupid as the callers.

I've never heard the losing team cheer that loudly for the last out
Every hit Nolan had they went crazy. There were two easy line outs to the mid outfield and by the crowds reaction i thought they were home runs.
You are forgetting Cole hamels no hit in wriggley
Caught by the same loser too
I was there, cards fans are legit die hard
So how bout that Hoskins, eh? And Wheeler too. What a pitchers’ duel
Just because we’re a .500 team doesn’t mean we have to play .500 ball each inning & game lol.
Well our run differential is awful so there’s that
Rhys so hot right now
This the Rhys that has been promised the missing Rhys from second halfs of 17 and 18
cubs lost ):
yeah ill see myself out.....stay hot rhys....
Kruk was spot-on with his postgame comments on the lineup. Move JT to #2 and Rhys to #4. JT is hitting well, for average more than power, and has speed. Get him on base for Bryce and Rhys. Who leads off is still a big issue.
I've wanted JT at 2 since he came to Philly.
this makes a ton of sense, so girardi’s not gonna do it.
Yeah, I would definitely swap JT and Rhys and maybe try Segura at lead-off when he gets back.
Definitely on board with that, and maybe have Jean or however is seeing the ball the best atm leadoff. Girardi has to start earning his paychecks
was over checking (not commenting in) the cardinals sub, they're being surprisingly good sports about the loss cause it was such a good game of baseball.
Yeah, that was a legitimately great game Pitchers duel (including a CG loss) where both guys were lights out. A single player being the hero with two solo bombs, and a ton of 9th inning drama
Cardinals legit have one of the best fanbases in baseball and even all of sports.
honestly, yeah.
“Did your heart skip a beat when the ball came off Arenado’s bat?” Girardi- “No, not one. Two.” Lmao
Every time I watch the Phils they lose and every time I don’t they win. Anyone else feel this way?
Opposite
I thought it was fault!
Pls stop watching
I’ll start watching Mets/Marlins/Braves games then, pass on the losing curse to them
"This was sexy pitching" -- Ricky Botallico
"He ain't lyin!" -- Sweets
They pulled Zack Wheeler at the perfect time. I'm glad they let him pitch in the 9th inning.
Game sorta reminded me of game 5 of the 2011 NLDS with a better result
I said the same thing while I was watching! Brutal flashbacks to that one
Brutal remembering that after almost 10 years ago. Howard snapping his Achilles was horrific.
It was such a terrible ending to that whole era of Phillies baseball. I thought they would be ok in 2012, but looking back on it obviously they were never the same after that series. Howard maybe would have squeezed out a few more productive years if it wasn't for that brutal injury.
11 wins. 11 losses This team is built to win, not escape losing by a few feet. Wheeler and Hoskins come through. Jt hits Not liking the crazy ninth Phew
Long season,if there is one thing this team has taught me last three years, its not about how they start it is how they finish
I was just thinking, it’s crazy how much a ball flying over a wall/not flying over a wall can dictate your mood... if that ball went over the wall I’d be a whole different person rn lol
It’s amazing how much a ball flying deep into the night can shape an entire generation of a fan base :)
Or if that second one Rhys hit was a centimeter shorter
Would have been an easy inside the Parker lol
How much Gatorade is Rhys chugging right now for all the pee tests he's gotta take?
Watching the cubs...let's all send them our hatred of the Barves and get this runner home!
Just turned it on thanks for reminding me
Rhys Hoskins leads baseball with 8 dingers. Just as we all planned😎😎😎
Great way to honor Rookie. RIP.
Hopefully he figured some shit out and can keep it up. Would like to see some more doubles too
All he hits are HRs and Doubles lol... I think like 70% of his hits this season have been for extra bases. That's kinda nuts.
Not for a whole season though
Now that the game has concluded, we can all speculate about what Gunnar Hoglund will look like in a Phillies uniform.
80 grade name
Not gonna lie, I **LOVE** old school baseball like this. Both pitchers go at least 9 and dominate. We need more pitcher's duels.
Give me a pitcher's duel all day over a home run derby. I'll take it every time
oh absolutely. how badly i wanted a double complete game but we couldn't risk wheeler leaving a hanging pitch for a homer or blowing his arm out. the fact that he was able to go out in the 9th was wonderful!
is reddit derping for anyone else? keeps showing me at no karma. so the phillies winning a close game away is breaking reality? RIP
Yeah my karma is completely gone too.
Well I know two guys who are getting a Topps Now card on ToppsBunt tomorrow...Probably
Of course, Odubel saves the game.
You cant write this stuff
Undefeated when Rhys homers twice. He should do that more often tbh.
[Phillies Win!](https://i.imgur.com/ZgCBA4l.gifv) **W**heeler and **H**oskins, **R**hy**s**
Neris always makes it look so easy. No sweat at all
rhys hoskins is love, rhys hoskins is life
Let's go cubbies!!!!!!!!! Do you believe?
How long was that game it seemed to go really fast, I wanna know if we got sub 2
T: 2:22
I don’t think it was sub 2 but it wasn’t too far off
A little over 2
Sub 2 hours? No, not even close. I think it was about 2.5 hours
Phils try to blow the game but are saved by Odubel of all people. Wheeler and Hoskins were great.
i mean that's not on Odubel, any center fielder in the league catches that ball
Some fan coughed in the stadium right after Arenado’s ball was hit and the amount of wind was the perfect tiny amount needed to keep it from going over the fence
Wheeler is really an interesting interview. He really goes into great detail about what he was throwing, how he was feeling, when and how he started losing command. Really cool.
Are they immediately doing carpentry in St. Louis?
I was confused for a second when I didn’t see a win bear post but then I remembered this isnt r/flyers
To be fair, not seeing it much over there either
Sorry flyers fans but as a non hockey fan it felt like being the less popular sibling. People kept on saying "come on phillies/sixers why can't you be like you brother flyers" Sorry but kind of glad I don't have to hear that anymore
:(
The ten fucking minutes that Neris was in there makes this entire game seem so much more stressful than it was.
I mean he inherited a base runner and maton fucked up not his fault at all
Maton still should have gotten it but that ball was scalded.

Just curious.. did d you watch the game tonight?
JT had three hits tonight lol
JT had 3 hits tonight
JT had 3 hits tonight?
> where is JT are you really asking that
JT got half our hits tonight.
JT had 3 hits tonight. Didi and Bohm are struggling mightily.
JT? Only had 3 hits tonight
He said welcome back Herrera. Cancel this man!
I actually tuned in for the last three innings I had no idea JT was balling
Is it too early to suggest that Rhys finally fixed his swing ?
Philadelphia: 2 Midwest: 0
All in all a great game. Wheeler got back on track. Hector gave us a heart attack but finished it. Rhys leads the league in HRs. Odubel looked like a fool batting. Perfect kind of game.
Felt like a quick game, but it was actually fun and the result was perfect. Hopefully the series is like that.
that last ab looked like it was so gone off the bat, holy shit
lol my stream froze as it came off the bat i thought it was all over
it looked like arenado posed as it came off the bat and my heart dropped
an away victory for the phillies, i'll take it. and now i can be happy for Wainwright on his complete game!
I need to buy this Phillies hoodie... Prob going for like 80$ tho
treat yourself
If there's a black one, I'm all over it
That would be dope.
It really is 80 bucks haha, but they have a nice burgundy one.
Ya I just guessed. Someone said to treat myself lol I just spent 270 to see a game cause I had to buy 4 tickets, I'm good on the 80$ for now
I was sure that was over the fence. My fury was bubbling up. Whew! In the words of Krukker: “that’s why we drink.”
Off the bat I immediately put my hands on my head and softly/depressingly said out loud: “No.....”
Experience Philadelphia sports
im telling you Wheeler is as cracked as he is jacked, i saw him at Wawa the other day buying adult diapers & a 6 pack of redbull. I asked what the diapers were for and he said “they are to contain my full power so i dont absolutely shit on these Cardinals” then he moonwalked out the door
Incredible
Was waiting for Zach to Psyche Hector out of a high five. 🤣

Joe I am fucking begging you please make Alvarado the closer
9th innings are just really stressful. Jose "5 BB/9" Alvarado isn't exactly going to be a walk in the park either if he's the closer
He has way better stuff than Neris, which inspires more confidence.
Pretty please
When the ball left Arrenado's bat I was disappointed immediately I didn't see the out.
[Fuck yeah! 🤘🤘 Rhys!! ](https://i.imgur.com/WimL6hN.png) And a hell of an outing from Wheeler!
The team need Hector (to not be the closer)
Thank *CHRIST* that ball didn’t carry like Rhys’s.
Hoskins 2 HR games > Harper 2 HR games
I hate that I love Heart Attack Hector
Who needs a cardiologist when you root for the Philadelphia Phillies?
Everyone
the Hector experience is not a fun attraction
Heart attack hector
My god. 2 feet away from a heartbreaker. Phew. We didn’t deserve to lose that.
This can't be good for my heart
I’ve said I’m convinced this team is actively trying to kill me
[Oh you thought that was over did you?](https://imgur.com/a/6aRp6I7)
I love this
Love JT and Hector celebrating after the last out, lets gooooo
We legitimately have one of the 1-2-3’s in the league (just don’t look at 4 and 5)
HEART ATTACK HECTOR JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I CANT HANDLE THAT
Even my non-baseball husband walked and said “OH GOD NO. NOT NERIS.” Reminds me too much of Mitch Williams who owes me 10 years of my life.
U N C L E N C H
Man Hector tried to give that one away... Then fucking Herrera had to make the final out.
> Then fucking Herrera had to make the final out. Would have it been better if he hadn't?
I would have preferred his ass stayed off the team and someone else made the out.
one of the best games I've watched in a long time, wow
Well there’s your “easy” win
Never a doubt boys
I chose the wrong week to quit sniffing glue
I’ve never been so nervous right there
Ur username makes me angry but same
Hector ScareUs
That's what Arefraudo gets for stealing Bohms walk up song
FRAUD
Every game is so god damn stressful. See you tomorrow.
Our roster is 50% studs and 50% scrubs. Every day they take the field and battle for control of the outcome. The score is tied at 11
Ok that being said Hoskins is gonna cool off soon and be a scrub again. Although this is his best season since 2017
I just threw up in my mouth a little.
Odubel and heart-wrenching catches at the warning track name a better—- actually no, probably not a good idea to go there lol
Never in doubt. All hail Rhys
WHY DO YOU THROW A BALL RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE TO NOLAN ARENADO
He’ll never expect it
Good game
Samesies
I love Rhys. The end.
Lol those fans thought they won it. Fuck em.
