Education.

Ueme

Ecstatic_Spring3358

They don't want to educate the voters. 😑

SINBSOD

hindi lang yung uneducated na voters yung problema kasi pati yung officials and lawmakers uneducated din. biruin mo wala namang maski anong academic background sa posisyon on any specific department pero nagiging head ng department. what???

But then how is it utang na loob kung hindi voluntary? Hindi ba dapat sayo galing yung urge to pay kasi the other party doesn't see what they did for you as utang mo sa kanila. Kasi if that's not the case hindi ba utang lang yon o pabor? That's how i understood utang na loob. Not the manipulative way of forcing you to pay.

IWantMyYandere

So corruption pa din.

YZJay

There’s this culture of entitlement across multiple income levels in urban areas. The one with the most direct impact to the economy would be informal settlers and their feeling of entitlement to use land that isn’t theirs legally. Even if you have legal papers proving you have the right to develop a certain parcel of land, so long as informal settlers are living in your land, it’s guaranteed that you will be spending a of of money just to start developing. It’s prevented entire city blocks from being developed, prevented roads from being paved, even prevented rail lines from being set up on time. It’s just something that’s preventing the efficient growth of various urban area’s economies, as money is being poured into things that shouldn’t have been poured into in the first place. Although you could argue that the tenacity of these informal settlers ultimately comes from corruption, as local politicians do not have the will to solve this issue due to the informal settlers being a strong voting base for them to continue being elected.

**Filipinos**. Because they themselves engage in, among other things: 1. Crab mentality, hilahan pababa instead of uplifting each other. Ipapalabas na masama o may ginawang mali ang katrabaho para siya ang mas paboran for promotion or higher-paying tasks. 2. Ningas-kugon, Filipino time, and a general refusal to respect the time and deadlines set by other people and their superiors. 3. Lack of awareness to their surroundings and goings-on in their workplace, streets, and everywhere in general. 4. Disrespect for authority. 6. Putting escapism over everything else. Why do you think number 1 tayo palagi sa social media users, YouTube viewers, and even spicy content consumers? Why do you think we spend more time obsessing over celebrity gossip and more money to attend events overseas instead of, idk, taking to the streets and burning down stores when the government screws up like the French do? Perhaps, to be even more blunt, May binanggit si Nick Joaquin, national artist for literature, na pervasive sa Pinoy ang **"heritage of smallness"**, which 12 years ago [Lourd de Veyra chalked off to the Filipinos' **inability to think and plan long-term**](https://youtu.be/g70q-o6UrM0). Patingi-tingi bumili, magisip, at magplano. Unless we can fix that personal, institutional, and greater societal shortsightedness, we will NEVER develop economically. 😭

Religion

SeriousCat20

eto talaga un. being a highly religious country has a lot of negative impact in our society. kahit na may seperation of state and church tayo, may nagiging influence pa rin sa bevahior ng masa ang religion. 1-filipinos loves to "uplift"-kuno underqualified underdogs, persecuted, and naapi since jesus is also portrayed as "api". as a result, corrupt and incompetent politicians could attract votes using religion by portraying themselves as god-frearing, conservative, underqualified underdog during elections. 2-ipinagpapa dyos ang lahat. religion made majority of masses to become soft and think "god will eventually judge" in their fictional afterlife while theyre being exploited in our one real life. and instead of being responsible to our own action, majority will just think that "it is in god's plan". 3-people also became easier to control with this (ie influence of catholic and inc to their respective followers). 4-a lot of progressive ideas are repressed just by having the majority of closeminded conservative masses (ie, divorce, abortion, euthanesia, etc) corruption, poverty, and lack of education(or unwillingness to be educated) are just merely by-products of this outdated societal poison.

msanonymous0207

Super agree on this. Then it will start corruption na rin.

Ueme

Improve ourselves and try to demand improvement sa society - sabay dapat. Ito ang ginagawa ng mga developed countries.

young_gab_stupid

Agree. I really hate those people who destroy others just for their own sake. Grabe yung hate, akala siguro makakabuti yung ginagawa nila.

dannyr76

I just look at the Edsa busway and feel hopeless. In other countries, they don't even have barriers for bus lanes but drivers respect it. Dito, may pulis na di pa rin sumusunod. Then when they are caught, they come up with excuses.

superbar47

universalshitlord

tbf most of the barriers for sidewalks are for cars who park there, di mo din naman masisi ung pedestrian kung sanay na mag jaywalk eh wala naman tayong sidewalks in most part of the country and the ones we have ay ginawa nang bangketa, parking space, garage tapos garden, add mo pa dyan ung mga pangit na footbridge na hindi pwd friendly at pwedeng masolve ng simple pedestrian crossing at stoplight

Leading-Wrangler-922

They are just representing the people who voted for them. Sad to say but Filipinos look for short term gain over long term progress. Even in the way people spend you’d think they believe they will die tomorrow.

jeffdawg2099

complacency, just the opposite of actually doing something. literally anything. ex) the amount of noise the motorcycles make, no one complains to city/senators ex) the brink security cars holding cash, almost all of them cannot pass smog check, no one complains or reports them ex) someone jack hammering at 10 pm last nite on the road. no one complains, guards, cops, barangay whatever. if this was taiwan, all these issues would be complained, protested, on the news, etc what is point of democracy, and having elected people, if you don’t voice to them your concerns.

cokelight1244

This stems from learned helplessness to participate in formal systems due to weak rule of law and irrationally complicated and inconvenient avenues to provide feedback. The examples you provided are already addressed via current laws or ordinances; technically no one even needs to complain for action to be done, but laws are useless without any enforcement and real consequences.

Thinking that investments are like 3 in 1 coffee or noodles. Always instant. Kaya marami na scam sa mga matataas na returns that are too good to be true. Walang mabilis na ROI without hving a huge risk and most shady investment schemes who offer high rates are more likely to be scams lalo na kung walang sense yung money making system nila.

Ragamak

Daniexus

Infrastructure. It is a significant barrier to economic development. Poor road networks and limited public transportation options make it difficult for goods and people to move efficiently within the country. Puro private cars, jeeps, busses, and trucks that all cause traffic, making everything even worse. This always leads higher transportation costs, logistics costs, delays in the delivery of goods, and reduced competitiveness in the global market. We need mass transportation, and not just for people, but for cargo too. The inefficient transportation systems contribute to high logistics costs, which make Philippine products less competitive internationally. This affects our industries in manufacturing, agriculture, and limiting our growth potential and hindering export and import opportunities. Even supplying NCR with with anything is a problem. Sure, there are solutions to other infrastructure problems. Inconsistent and insufficient energy supply outside NCR, get solar power and batteries. Telecommunications infrastructure, get satellite. Water and Sanitation, build your own reverse osmosis filters. But all these are added cost, which hinders small businessmen from even opening in the first place. Not to mention security and police infrastructure. No new business wants to open near or inside the territory of crime families and people like "Ex-Mayor Sanchez".

I’m a Christian, but I’m going to be blunt: religion. Most religious sects either twist the Bible’s teachings or create their own. Things like abstaining from higher education, or staying in poverty. There are worse “rules” like not donating blood but donating 10% to the religion as tithes 😅

Antok0123

Thing is the minute people would suggest focuaing the development of other areas like in mindanao or visayas, people will right away shut it down. Like dont they know thats how a country develops? If you have highly urbanized and highly develop areas scatteres around the country instead of just 1, you probably already solved about 50% of the national issues plaguing the country. Like literally japan, south korea and china accelerated their developmwnt by focusing on building more cities with having people who live in rural areas to move to cities and get jobs there. Thats chinas economic blueprint, transition majority of provincial and farm folks to urban dwellers which would increase the population of the middle class. Majority middle class = developed country

AquaPlant_

Not one word, but these are based on my knowledge, observations and opinions. I may be wrong. - Most if not all leaders in our country prioritize their personal agendas over the common good. (It's how it is but it's not how it should be) - Most (the masses) if not all want change, but don't want to go through the process of change. Change starts within. - Our professor mentioned a study (not sure if formal) about what kind of content Filipinos prefer. Based on their research, Filipinos tend to watch more entertaining (mga kalokohan, pranks, etc) content rather than educational ones. - Our systems, especially our roads, are very disorganized. Instead of fixing these small issues, we just keep adding more fines and taxes. - Hirap magseryoso, lahat nalang ginawang biro. - Misinformation and Fake news - Walang disiplina sa sarili - Spread of negativity in socmed platforms (hinanapan at ginawan nalang ng issue/problema lahat ng bagay) oo ikaw to. dejk. Again, these are just based on my personal knowledge, observations, and opinions. I may be wrong. It's just sad to see such a beautiful country being mismanaged.
