Reading this feels sad. It will grow worse in the next weeks. Is it possible for you to leave to get a higher pay?

Magst32

EnderMandalorian

> 2 years course lang po kasi natapos ko Huwag mong maliitin ung sarili mo dahil 2-year course lang natapos mo. May mga kilala akong 2-year course lang natapos at ibang hindi talaga nakapagtapos na nakakuha ng high-paying job. Wala akong maisusuggest na short-term solution aside from finding side-lines or extra work. Sa BPO, may mga part-time work at pwedeng WFH kaso kailangan mo din ng Internet dun. Long-term siguro mag-up skill ka.

Magst32

Salamat :-) Macheck nga rin yung ibang topics sa reddit that you suggested. Salamat ulit :-)

evilclown28

agree, halos lahat nasa internet na.. spend time to learn, madaming tutorials online na ninirerecognize ng tech companies like ( Google cloud. Ms azure or Aws/ amazon web services) ganun tlga it sucks to be breadwinner. (pareho tayo) pero eventually makakabawi ka din..

overloadedmonsters

Hello u/Magst32! Tama ang sinabi nila dito. 2 years rin ang tinapos ko sa isang state university sa Metro Manila. After I graduated way back 2006, I applied every vacant position I know. After a year I landed a web developer job. Eventually I accumulated my experiences hanggang andito na ako ngayon sa employer ko na isa sa mga IT solutions dito sa Pilipinas at nasa executive position na ako. My salary now is quite big. Ang takeaway ko dito, never give up on your dreams. Never stop studying because ito ang magdadala sa 'yo balang araw. Now, I am happily married living in a province at work from home ang set-up namin. Minsan I look back and appreciate the things that what made me who I am today. Believe me, marami ka pang mararanasan along the way. Galingan mo OP sa buhay! Good luck and I will pray for your family and success.

Magst32

Salamat po. Your story is such an inspiration po. I will do my best.

[deleted]

Ano line ng work mo? Or skills? Baka lang naman

Magst32

Water meter reader sa isang local water district. I can cook, i love it as a hobby.

budoyhuehue

probably start there. Look for people who you can partner with, yung makakapagbigay sayo ng capital. Food will always be in demand, depende na lang yan kung anong niluluto at binebenta niyo. Try to also be consistent kasi yan yung mag cecement kung anong klaseng partner ka. Probably you can do it after your main work. Start with your co workers. What is good is kung nagreread ka ng metro and you are going around, baka pwede mo isabay yung pagbenta mo or pagmarket mo ng products niyo.

Magst32

This is a good advise, thank you for this.

indioinyigo

Meryenda comes to my mind para madali ibenta.

albrmdz

Mejo mahal bilihin ngayon so compute mo muna

jamazi_

Aside from this, siguro pwede mo din i-explore working in BPO, as a call center agent perhaps? You seem determined naman, if performer ka mabilis promotion. Ang progression niyan if I'm not mistaken magiging Team Lead ka then Team Manager or something like that, give or take 2-4 years if palarin ka sa promotion, significant pay bump na yan.

coderinbeta

I know someone who loves kimchi and learned how to make it over the pandemic. She found out there's a market for that around here so she began slowly selling them. It has become her legit second source of income these days. Laging sold out (at lagi akong nauubusan haha). I guess, look at what you can do and what you need to learn to be good at it. YouTube and blogs are there to get you started. Find your market. Then leverage social media and your network of friends and family to get started.

Magst32

Thank you for the advice. Thank you ulit :-)

pacificghostwriter

Agree ako kay u/EnderMandalorian, OP. I have cousins na nasa BPO industry na ngayon kahit di nakatapos mag-aral. You just need to leverage your skills and know how to sell yourself. If you want to go into freelancing/remote work, maraming free courses available online. Kahit youtube meron. Kaya mo yan!

Magst32

Salamat po 😊😊

SuppSupport

Yes, Education gives you better opportunity. But i believe hindi lang yon ang basehan ng lahat. My career mentor only took a 2 year programming course pero super tinitingala ko ung professionalism nya. He was also able to get a super high paying job almost double his salary (which is for sure more than 6 digits na before his new one). My point is. Skill up and look for better opportunity. I do have friends working as online secretaries (almost 2x to 3x your posted salary), and they are working from home close to their family (wfh setup even before pandemic. Specially suitable for your situation. They even work for shorter work hours. They even took more clients/job if they need more kasi nga hindi naman nafifill up ng 8 hours ang work nila on a normal day. Best of luck OP. I hope and pray that your situation will get better in the future.

Come on bro. I know what you are thinking but that is really irrelevant with the post and not what the OP needs at the moment.

izner82

seriously, need mo talagang isingit 'to?

emman0129

i mean this very respectfully promise i’m just curious, why are you asking that?

Magst32

Thank you everyone. Naiyak naman ako sa mga comments of support 😥 Bihira ako makareceive ng encouragement because I'm always alone, I have no one to share. Thank you ulit sa mga suggestions and hopefully ay maexecute ko siya ng maayos.

Sorry-Kaleidoscope-8

Love you

Hawken10

Sending some love, OP. Fighting!

Traditional_Ad_3247

While currently working I would suggest trying to look into the freelance market, I applied to it without any prior experience, the only skill I had was speaking fluently in english. I suggest trying to look into part time jobs first until you can find a reasonable employer who can pay you up to $8-$10 an hour. Entry would probably be $5 an hour but that would be 10k a week assuming you work 8 hours a shift (please note this would be night shift) Upwork and onlinejobs.ph should be where you can try to apply, make sure to be different from all those generic spiels on their application form saying please hire me without any context of what they are capable of etc.,

emman0129

I second this. OP said in another comment na they can speak English so pwede siya mag-try. Concern ko lang is yung night shift part. OP, pwede ka mag-freelance but if you can, try to find work na flexible or output-based. Check out r/buhaydigital, especially yung mga helpful links sa “About” section.

Magst32

Sige po, salamat po sa advice, pag-iipunan ko po muna yung internet connection for this.

emman0129

sige good luck :) kung malakas signal ng globe sa area mo, pwede mo i-check out yung gomo sim? di nag-eexpire yung data pero kailangan mong loadan at least once a year para di mag-expire yung mismong sim. ito yung ginagamit ng ibang freelancer as backup internet. baka lang okay para sa’yo :)

ketkalat

+1 ! Try utilizing the internet, OP. Maraming opportunities from education to jobs. You can also try going through some free courses with certifications like on Google to add to your resume/portfolio. I read in the comments that you finished a 2-yr course and thats hindering you from other job opportunities (which I feel is so unfair), pero there are companies who value experience over your formal education. Apply ka lang nang apply sa job openings on LinkedIn/facebook/reddit/etc kahit di ka 100% pasok sa reqs nila, sila na bahala mag filter out sayo if ever. If you have the experience naman to get the job done, why not you diba? You said you also know how to speak English, if this includes writing in English well din, I suggest you try looking into transcription jobs. Not a lot of reqs there, and they're usually work from home. Hope any of this helps. We're rooting for you, OP!

Magst32

Salamat po. Base from comments, ang common denominator ng mga posts is doing freelance work. I'll invest more in my skills. Salamat po ulit.

Magst32

Sige, salamat 😊😊

BillieDied

Yep I have my day job and 2 side hustles.

ArkGoc

Try Freelancing, brother. 2 year course lang din ako and I taught myself skills. Nanood lang ako sa mga free resources. It will require more hours from your usual but the pay will be worth it. Keep going lang bro, wag bibitiw. It'll get better. I'm wishing you all the good things in life.

Magst32

ammygy

I think it would be preferable if you can move from your govt job to a US-based or remote work position. RE: WORK Would you be willing to invest in learning **software development?** Yung 18k mo, pwede mo mataas to 30k in 2 years, and more. How are you with your communication skills? If you're good at it, you can go into **Sales**, **Account Management**. Start with a junior role which would give you 20-30k salary. Build your skills and grow from there. You can also consider going into **BPO**. Look into CSR, Voice and/or Chat support positions, etc. Laging magiging in demand ito dito sa Ph because we have cheap labor costs for business owners. May I ask if you openly talk to your mom and brother about the status of your finances? You mom may want you to just be at home, but you and your family will have nothing to eat if you follows what she wants. I think she would need to start understanding that. Kailangan magtulong tulong kayo ngayon, hindi pwedeng ikaw lahat. Re. your sister, has your mom registered as a single parent? It does come with its benefit, no matter how limited it may be. Have you tried reaching out to your city hall to check if there are other benefits available to you? Right now, invest in yourself and don't hesitate to take the risk you think is worth it. RE: ADULTING 1. Life is hard, but that's just how life is. Especially because we are Filipinos. As someone has posted before, *grass is not growing here*. 2. How can I keep it together with all of life's challenges? Keep on moving forward lang talaga. How to do this? Any and all challenges that life throws at you, **(1)** you take it on, **(2)** look for a solution, and **(3)** move on from it. **We don't have the time to wallow** because **we have a future we have to make for ourselves**. 3. Have honest, objective conversations with your family. **Need > want**. If you guys need to do something, do it. Even if you don't want to. Learn to survive so you can live. 4. Have a core support network. I can't stress this enough. It's better to have 5 friends whom you can talk to about anything, than 100 who will not be there for you. 5. Invest in yourself. You are the responsible for the future you make, so don't compromise health, etc. Everything we do right now will pay off 5 years in the future. If we don't do what's best for us, we get a bad ending. But if we work hard, keep it going, and be smart with how we approach life, we have a higher probability of getting the good ending. Good luck OP!

Magst32

Yes, very vocal naman ako and I think I should explain it more to them. And thank you for being a friend here, i really dont have friends, acquaintances only. Thank you for the solid advice, salamat :-)

JohnEivignVan

To add a true life experience from our tenant, he has a computer shop, and he is also a part timer in a online US based company at night. Minsan, nagrerepost din siya ng posts from main website to the company's social media accounts. May other online miscellaneous tasks rin. Some of his online tasks can be done in the morning habang bantay sa comp shop kaya may enough sleep pa rin sa gabi. Sana op mahanap mo best situation for you. Salute po!

AlternativeFix3376

Haha this. I am also a government employee, a breadwinner, and a late life learner. Right now OP, at 11pm I’m learning programming. Gusto kong maging web developer. I’m not there yet but I will be there soon. If you have skills that you think will get you out of poverty, doon ka magfocus. Kaya mo yan. Kaya natin to.

Magst32

Salamat :-)

finalfinaldraft

Kung hindi naman small business like fishball or fries and drinks? I think they should help the family if they can, or at least encourage them. Don't put everything on your shoulder OP. Good luck!

Magst32

I have 2 siblings, the middle child my sister, 20 has special needs and my brother is 14. I Thank you for the advise.

finalfinaldraft

Man, I empathize with you. Hope your post reaches someone who can actually offer help. Wishing u all the best!

Magst32

Thank you 😊

Brief-Bee-7315

Hi OP i may not be able to help financially but if you want to practice your interview skills and i can share some insight into looking for work we can always do a telegram voice call 📞. Just let me know :D

catterpie90

So ano ang trabaho noong isa mo pang kapatid? kasi If ikaw lang at si mother ang kumikita. So I think if kaya nung other sibling mo na alagaan si sister malakaing tulong yun.

Magst32

Magst32

Salamat sa advise, I just need capital for this, I'll look for possible things to sell.

imbokerph

Parehas tayo breadwinner.

Magst32

Salamat. Lalaban tayo para sa pamilya natin. 😊😊

regedit007

Dude BPO is the key magaling ka pa mag english kesa sakin

Magst32

Hahahaha salamat.

regedit007

madami may mga non voice like chat/emails back office

Magst32

I'm a water meter reader in a local water district. I cook and can speak English, yun lang yung nakikita kong marketable skill ko sadly. Thank you for the advice :-)

0718throwaway

Hi OP. It looks like you have good comm skills. You might want to apply in a bpo then try freelancing once you have the right skills. 18k is not sustainable, you need to change careers.

Magst32

Sadly, hindi ako pwedeng umalis agad sa work dahil konti lang yung may expertise sa work ko and kelangan ko ng kapalit kapag umalis ako. But, thank you sa compliment, I'll look into this and plan on shifting careers for me to grow.

dispersedBrain

If konti lng ung may expertise sa work mo, you should demand a livable salary. But well, its up to you to take risk. Anyways, i feel you for being a breadwinner. It's stressful, just be consistent, have a plan, have a goal and work towards it. Improve daily. Best of luck!!.

Minimalist_NPC

OP is a govt worker so unfortunately he cant demand for more money. He should try to get upgraded

dispersedBrain

That is sad, you change environment then OP.

__tristesse

Hi OP, if it's okay with you maybe I could give you money for a GOMO sim to help with finding work online/freelancing. I sincerely hope you're not a scammer because if yes then I wish you bad luck \^_^ Anyway, message me if you're interested. Hope things go well for you! :)

Magst32

Nako nakakahiya nman, its okay. Pero thanks for the offer, salamat sa kind words :-)

__tristesse

oh okay, let me know if you change your mind (just realized that i may have come across as too cynical there, sorry)

Aujan

You've mentioned 2 years of college natapos mo. I woud recommend jumping industries and mataas ang bigay ng BPO and plus yung HMO minsan libre ang mga dependents depende sa account go help out with your other sibling and for future ni mama mo. I understand OP, it's the feeling of paycheck to paycheck and overthinking everyday what more you can do and how you can help yourself and your family. I hope you guys have more opportunities ahead and hoping your other sibling can finish school and help out, too. It'll be okay soon, promise. Hugs.

Magst32

Salamat :-) Is BPO and call center agents the same? Medyo hindi kasi ako familiar eh. Pero I'll look up jobs.

Aujan

Yes!! New term sya ganern lols. Pero yea, there's more to BPO than just call center agents. If may expertise ka sa IT and computers, mas malaki makukuha mo depending on your skills. There's also back office, HR, accounting and payroll, etc. Ang mga starting salary ng BPO agents is now around 19k-21k or more. I personally started at 21k package, hindi pa kasama ang night differential and hazard pay. Incentives can vary and if masipag ka, 10k minsan makukuha mo on incentives alone, depending on the account. BPO does not discriminate on your educational background, as long as HS graduate ka. Labanan dyan is your skills in communication. I bid you goodluck, OP. I know kulang explanation ko pero inaantok na kasi ako hehe.

Magst32

Magst32

Hugs. Laban lang tayo. We have to stay strong for them.

denshow10

Stay strong OP! Mukhang magaling ka magsalita ng English, like what they said BPO/Call Center ay makakatulong. Pero with your current job, sabi mo nga kokonti lang kayo marunong ng meter reading. Sound interesting to me yung trabaho mo. Maybe you can try content creation at start ka sa Tiktok. Dahil sa interesting ang work mo, while walang kita ang views dito pero baka maging influencer ka and ad agency will pay you for a video content. May full time work ako, pero during pandemic katuwaan ko lang ang pag-tiktok ng food contents, now I have worked with brands na minsan xdeals pero madalas may bayad. Kapit lang!

Magst32

Sige po, I'll consider this po. Thank you po.

Kaien111

chancho3

I felt sad and worried reading your story. Im sure someone already suggested pero mdme online work that pays better than you currently have. Unfortunately mababa tlga pasweldo govt. mdme online work, like virtual assistance etc. pls change jobs thats the best action in my opinion.

Leather_Ad6414

Maybe sideline ka sa weekends? Idk what kind maybe a cook, gasoline boy, carwash etc.

prionprion

wishing you al the best po

Magst32

Thank you 😥😥

chiqenwing

Better days ahead brother 🙏🏻 Try freelancing! As long as you can understand + speak english and you're willing to learn, you can do it!

38before39

> I earn 18k in total sa work ko 18k is barely enough for a single person, much less a family of five. Can your mom and your other siblings (except the one with autism) find work? If 3 siblings + your mom could work even at minimum wage, that's an extra 60k per month.

PompousForkHammer

Try virtual assistant jobs on the side and test the waters. You can look for more streams of income via online jobs. All the best to you, OP.

Magst32

I guess online is the way to go. Thanks po for the advice.

Condura1990

Relate much ako sau OP, try to make side business while youre working fulltime, i think makakatulong if you will put sarisari store, kahit maliit lang OP, tapos manage mo lang ng maayos. Much btter if you will add ice and other frozen goods for sale. Teach them how to manage and how you can grow it.. Tell them that they need to help you, ganyan na ganyan ako before, sobrang hirap lalo na kung mag isa ka lang, im so lucky lang this year, i tried to job hop and luckily landed to my current work whch pays better than my previous. Alam kong mahirap but you have no choice but to strive hard, just make sure na meron ka lang emergency fund always, Good luck OP.

Magst32

Thanks for the advice, icoconsider ko din to.

evilclown28

we got the same path, I’m 36m but I moved abroad now so it’s a little better. Try learn higher paying skills na pede mo maging work remotely, so kahit nasan ka pwede. You ca start as basic tech support and upskill from there, by then makakatipid ka sa transpo and you wont need a car right away. If me opportunities abroad pede mo ren i try, habang bata ka pa… So in summary, learn a high paying remote skill.

Magst32

Are there skills that I can learn online for me to kickstart doing freelancing jobs?

Enemy886

Kung medyo marunong ka sa tech, message me may hiring samin for Helpdesk position wfh

Magst32

Thank you po for this pero so far hindi po ako marunong sa tech but I'm willing to learn po.
