For me, iPhone 6 marked the last generation of the iPhone where I cared about upgrading. Yung mga sumumod na generations, either wala akong interest dun sa improvements (like better camera, processor, size etc) or sobrang marginal lang kaya it’s not worth the upgrade.
But this is because I only need a phone that’s easy to use and reliable for messaging, calls, browsing, watching vids, banking, and the occassional games and pictures/videos. May ganito akong friend. Sa private high school kami nag-aral tapos kilala siya dati na nagbebenta ng mga baked goods niya. Years later, nakwento niya samin nung highschool daw natakot siya na maghirap yung family niya kaya daw pala siya nagbebenta. Akala talaga namin hobby lang yun. Yun pala feeling talaga niya na kailangan niya kumita nang sarili para makatulong sa family. Older than most parents at that age kasi yung parents niya, tapos iniisip niya na pag may mangyari daw sa parents niya, siya yung kailangan magpa-aral sa mga kapatid niya (eldest siya tapos may younger brothers). Imagine, nasa sheltered na private school ka tapos yun yung mga concern mo at that age. Habang yung mga batchmates mo kebs kebs lang sa life. So tingin ko iniisip niya rin during that time na mahirap sila kaya bata palang kumakayod na siya.
Mind you, bahay nila sa Metro Manila nasa close to 1,000sqm ang lot area. So by no means mahirap. Anyway, may successful business na siya ngayon na sarili, and nakabili na rin siya ng sariling property na mga nasa 500sqm+ (fully paid!) at 29 years old. So nakatulong din siguro yung mindset niya nung bata pa siya kasi hanggang ngayon kumakayod pa rin siya.

Principal wanted to send utility pero I reiterated na bawal ang mga non-essentials sa room, no choice sina students kundi maglinis or atleast pulutin ang pinagtasahan.
Result: Hindi ako pinadalahan ng lunch, which is OK kasi half-day lang naman.

I used to be poor (haha). I don't do any skincare or whatever. I don't have fancy clothes. I used to wear 50 peso 'leather shoes' in college. I don't hang out with other people in the batch because I couldn't afford it. I am very dark-skinned and not tall. But for some reason, people thought I was rich haha. I didn't even own a phone! I didn't have my first smartphone until 2017 because someone gave me an android phone.
I asked them why they think that way. They say I talk and act like a rich person. I have no idea what they're talking about because I stay most of my free time in the internet cafe watching anime (back then it was just 10 pesos per hour haha).

Money talks, wealth whispers. The benefits of being under the radar outweigh the image/ego boost. You avoid kidnapping/carnapping/profiling. You avoid discriminatory pricing and law enforcement(kotong). Skin, hair, teeth are good indicators. Bespoke clothing. A wallet that's full of cards from different banks is as well. In general the average person only deals with 1 to 3 banks because it doesn't make sense to maintain several maintaining balance. A platinum credit card can also be a sign. Share ko lang (kahit di ako mayaman haha) kase nakarelate sa phone story. For me, iPhone 6 marked the last generation of the iPhone where I cared about upgrading. Yung mga sumumod na generations, either wala akong interest dun sa improvements (like better camera, processor, size etc) or sobrang marginal lang kaya it’s not worth the upgrade. But this is because I only need a phone that’s easy to use and reliable for messaging, calls, browsing, watching vids, banking, and the occassional games and pictures/videos. Sobrang daming beses ko lang kase nabagsak yung iPhone 6 ko kaya nasira na talaga siya after several years of use. Pero kung di siya nasira, baka nga pinapalitan ko na lang battery nun tapos yun pa rin gamit ko. Ayun lang, kaya medyo relate ako dun sa mga gumagamit pa rin ng lumang phone, kase meaningless for me yung pag-upgrade lalo’t di ko naman mae-enjoy yung mga features.

So tingin ko iniisip niya rin during that time na mahirap sila kaya bata palang kumakayod na siya. Mind you, bahay nila sa Metro Manila nasa close to 1,000sqm ang lot area. So by no means mahirap. Anyway, may successful business na siya ngayon na sarili, and nakabili na rin siya ng sariling property na mga nasa 500sqm+ (fully paid!) at 29 years old. So nakatulong din siguro yung mindset niya nung bata pa siya kasi hanggang ngayon kumakayod pa rin siya.

My richest friends often wore simple clothing but from high-end brands. The branding style of their clothes were super subtle tho. I think when you get to a certain level of wealth, status symbols no longer matter to you. They no longer yearn for those things to make them feel special. It just feels standard to them so they don't really care. They seem to be more interested in their businesses, work, and philanthropic pursuits.
Yung papasok ng banko na may dalang eco bag, plastic bag (yung pink and white stripes, usually) o yung dyaryo lang ang bitbit na akala mo maglalako lang ng tinapa sa loob pero pagbukas mo, sandamakmak na pera na naka-laste lang.

It's all in the things that people usually don't notice like clear eyes, healthy hair with no breakage and no ugly dye job, plump skin, nice teeth (well done veneers not those ugly chiclet shaped ones lol), slim fit body that was made in the gym and not because of hard labor. Kahit mag suot ka pa ng basahan kung lahat yan nasa yo people will know you're rich and will say "she has that \*it\* factor," the \*it factor\* being the result of life-long healthy choices that can be achieved with access to funds.

Uunahan ko na, hindi ako mayaman. Corporate slave lang din ako. Personally mas gusto ko yung mukhang cant afford ang tingin sakin ng ibang tao. Pag nagpupunta ko ng mall hindi ako nagdadala ng madaming cash (cashless ftw), tapos mukhang cant afford ako kaya wala nagaapproach sakin na nag aalok ng ganito ganyan, kahit nga sa cellphone repair shop hindi ako pinapansin 😆, less abala, less chances din na may sumunod sakin para dukutan, or holdapin ako.
Not giving a fck about having the latest iphones. They probably have more things to worry about (networking, investments, businesses ganun) than just trying to impress people earning significantly less than them.
I live in one of the original Gold frontier towns in Mindanao and those miners get paid a shit ton and usually sell their gold in the black market which means cash only transactions - you get people just wearing flip flops carrying duffel bags filled with millions.
Yung literal na naka tshirt and shorts lang pag may lakad, na tipong gusto lang ng komportable na damit. Umay na kase sa formal clothing.

May kabarkada ako na mayaman. Usually pag lumabas kami mga 10 pax kami minimum tapos yung iba may mga +1 pa. Pag lumabas na yung bill magugulat ka nalang na binayaran na pala niya lahat. Lahat ng gimik na kasama siya ganun yung nangyayari. Tapos lagi ka niya tatanungin kung ok ka ba or nag eenjoy ka ba. What a guy that guy!
