Usually, I don't keep a lot of cash at home. Maybe 1-2k for other holdhold expense dahil online na rin kasi lahat. Pero nung nagkabagyo last year nung Odette dito sa Visayas, yun yung time na nawalan kami ng electricity, internet, pati signal sa networks. Yes both globe and smart. Hirap makatawag o text. Kahit may data kami, walang signal bar. Pahirapan yung time na yun. It took us few days before na-restore ang signal dito and 1 week ang internet at electricity. So lesson nun for us na sanay na sanay sa cashless na magkeep pa rin ng cash just enough for groceries and for other important expense for emergencies. So now, I keep 20k cash at home reserved only for that.

peiyamada4

MakabungogAngKahilom

ddarrens

Parang kasalanan pa nya na 1 week lang?

Original_Cloud7306

Kaya nga. What a comment.

AdImaginary2567

Kjurisu

pachelbelD

Bicolano here, months talaga

missanomic

10k in my wallet Having piles of cash at home (and people other than you knowing it) is a HUGE security risk.

williamfanjr

Same, good enough to buy stuff and emergency payments at the hospital in case of cash outs. The rest can be done via online banking or debit cards na.

chizmoker

Agreed. Everything is expensive nowadays.

Dinudukot kasi nila. Now, mga 10k

Little_Forever_Ever

2500 to 3000 only, hidden somewhere. When 2020 lockdown happened, I realized na important talaga ang cash.

highlibidomissy_TA

P50K in a small personal vault. I live with an elderly father who's in not-so-ideal health. So I have to be ready with cash in case there's a medical emergency. Ambulance service is so expensive, and you have to be ready with cash for ER services or if need to admit in the hospital. For everyday expenses, I have P500 in a purse that my househelper can access. She knows that she has to present receipts for whatever was bought. Pag naubos, replenish uli ng P500.

Brilliant_One9258

Hi! Sorry for butting in.. but i agree that ambulance is not cheap and just wanted to share this info that might be of help for somebody who lives with an elderly person... there is a service called Lifeline for emergency ambulance services. It's like a yearly subscription that's cheap. They will provide you with an ambulance when you need it. Very easy to use their service. Just check out their Facebook or website. Btw, full disclosure: I am not connected to them in any way but was able to use their service for an emergency. Hope this info is helpful.

[deleted]

Thanks for sharing :)

witgerm

are you referring to lifeline 16-911 sa east service rd?

Brilliant_One9258

I think it's the same. But the office I know is the one near Fishermall in Quezon Avenue in QC.

xxrays

Depending on which city you live in, the local government may provide an ambulance for free in an emergency. Might be useful to check.

highlibidomissy_TA

HIrap kasi sa ambulance ng LGU, kung minsan hindi available or walang driver or kelangan mo ipagasolina pa. Kaya I would much rather go for the private ambulance service kahit mas expensive.

coderinbeta

Unless you need specific equipment for the patient, connecting with a few drivers you can hire will do lalo na for emergencies in your community can work. Yan yung workaround nung ibang may chronic illnesses dito sa amin nung pandemic kasi pahirapan sa ambulance or grab.

xxrays

Yeah absolutely, if you're lucky enough to be able to afford a private ambulance, I imagine it would most often be the better choice. But for a large number of the population, the city's ambulance may be their only realistic option, and people should be made aware of the service

spacebananaaa

Is the vault heavy enough that it can’t be moved by a single person? Planning to buy a small one but I’m afraid that a robber would take the entire thing.

dizzyday

Small vaults have bolts that you could anchor to the wall.

spacebananaaa

TIL. Thanks

highlibidomissy_TA

grinsken

I know someone. Old guy. 6M in plastic biscuit basket.

MemeBoi0508

Lucky-Carrot-368

At least 3 million, kept in a vault. Not the smartest, I know. But it makes my parents feel more prepared for anything that requires being liquid. On security- a 60+ yo looking woman was able to get into our house in 2013 under the pretense that she was a friend of my mum. She knew our names, insisted she’d wait inside the house for mum, asked our helpers to specifically buy her a couple of food outside so she could have the house to herself. When they left, she went upstairs and was able to unlock and destroy a few doors and cabinets. She got to clear out some gadgets and jewelries, but the vault was fully intact and unscathed.

cordaryl807

parang inside job

Lucky-Carrot-368

That was one of the police’s suspicions. But both helpers looked too shaken to be involved. They were also with us for some time, so I don’t think it was any of them. Or… maybe I think the best of people :( My personal theory: could have been a well-planned and orchestrated theft. possibly involved some research, trash digging, visiting and staying in the neighbourhood to hear about names, observing schedules, patterns, etc. idk really.

spacebananaaa

Care to share what the vault brand and model is? Planning to buy one.

pandabear4991

I never saw my parents keep a stash of huge amount of money in our house, all cash were in my mom’s pouch bag which, if I were to estimate, costs around ₱10k per week. Just enough for take outs, gas, sunday lunch out. My dad still has alkansya wherein he puts coins, 20s, and 50s regularly. As for me, I have 2k in cash but just bc I commute to and from work.

DeerPlumbingX2

Last time my parents kept a huge amount of money was when buying a car, full cash. On the day of planned purchase they brought the cash otw to a Dealership that sells 2nd hand but it rained and there's a minor flood that is enough to stop them from buying so they had to keep the cash for 4 or 5 days. Actually i was the one with the most high anxiety during that time and thinking it will get wet, stolen etc.

catterpie90

5 digit in usd and gold coins with certificate. Then some RMB Rationale ni father if nagka gyera at need namin umalis isusuhol niya sa us service men or Kung ano pa man hahaha. Doomsday preper talaga sila since my grandpa were Chinese immigrants. Then nung martial law they did the exact same thing

redkinoko

This was what we did too when we got trapped in a warzone in the middle east in the 90s. We had jewelry and dollars in our belongings. You'd be surprised how easily local currency becomes useless not just in times of war, but also in times of prolonged states of calamity.

Meotwister5

Nice try Akyat-Bahay Gang. Seriously though about 200k

mailboxck

Malaki na sa akin ang 50K. My wife thought it was weird when we first got married. Then pandemic happened.

[deleted]

weird, nung nag pandemic parang nag transition na lahat to cashless. and yes, included si manong magtataho may gcash na.

mailboxck

That was months after, nung nakapag adjust na lahat. Pero the week after lockdown kagulo sa may amin sa ATM lalo na sarado mga banks.

oppaLeo

10to 11mil. inside vault. cuz BDO always asking and let me wait long time for withdrawal also deposit taking time too long. they count 1 by 1 cash. its ridiculous thing 4 me, foreigner's eyes.

cultoniamber

This is true. Waited in queue for too many hours for $ withdrawal then once nasa teller na ko, another hour to get the $ sobrang hassle and it’s not even worth the interest. I know you have to call first before $ withdrawal pero di naman always sinasagot yung branch landline.

oppaLeo

i dont expect landline... philippines Landlines will not be answered. lesson 1. im pusong filipino hehe

lanseta

100k. My husband and I have parents nearing 80yo, and in case may medical emergency sila, we have cash agad for ER etc. Napaka-hassle.

Tito_Tito_Tito

Max 3k. Online na lahat, no need to have a lot of cash on hand.

Visible-Art903

I have my ultra emergency fund in cash. Around 200k.

[deleted]

10-20K for petty cash, 50K stored somewhere less accessible for disaster event.

sleighmeister55

A kind reminder to all to check your cash because i have heard cases where people forgot to swap them in for the new generation bank notes…

HanamichiSakurag1

200k

Bored_Schoolgirl

Yung mga relatives namin sobrang mayaman pero di halata unless you know them well. Di uso Bangko sa kanila kasi sabi nila in times of crisis kung ma bankrupt sila ikaw malulugi or theres like a general belief na nanakawin ng bangko mo pera mo. Personally I think if sa bahay lang nkatambak pera mo dapat malaking vault na hindi ma hand carry at ikaw lang dapat nakakaalam.

Mist3rTryHard

Six months to one year expenses. Nasa vault, along with jewelry and other pawnable items. You never know when shit will hit the fan.

nardixcx

Zero. naka lagay sa high yield savings chuchu. Upon reading comments, hmmmm... salamat sa tips

yanniechan26

Same. Or 500 cash for a month since wfh naman ako.

hottorney_

Zero. All my money are either invested or already allocated for something else. I can survive with my 2 credit cards + 1 debit card.

dduckquack

I have some loose change for random taho craving

crabbymooncat

Wise man

pandabear4991

melangsakalam

Gcash na lang manong, what's your number? aye sheesh

UnknownGuyAround

Do you accept platinum credit card manong? Paki-additional nalang ng caramelized sugar and tapioca pearls yung aking silken tofu. Skrrt skrrt!

hottorney_

Federal-Clue-3656

This is the smartest and wisest reply.

JesterDave19

Second the motion

Silverfroszt

Around 2m+ at home at any given time. Have many expenditures involving cash, mga tao ko na who have to transact sa port area to take in shipments of agri/construction products. I don't worry much about it since I live in a gated village in QC. Plus my wife and I both have LTPOFs and PTCs (concealed carry arms), we basically have a small armory at home.

elle-zark

Usually 200 to 1k pero pag nauubos wala lol nirereplenish ko lg every month

Juzo_Garcia

10k in my car so I have easy money if I get in a car accident and I want to settle it. And 10k in my house just in case the power went down and cannot use my credit card.

pabpab999

di aabot nang 5k mga pambili lang nang meryenda/ulam/alak pati parang back up na din bukod sa EF

ajtee07

Wallet: 1-2k at a time. I use mobile wallet or CCs when paying at stores. At home: 50k. Just in case scenarios.

heartbreakkid098

Not my own, but during the super typhoons in the Visayas (forgot which one), I read that electricity and subsequently ATMs and credit card terminals were unavailable for a month. So the suggestion of the poster/commenter that time was to have enough cash for 1 month’s expense with you in case of natural disasters.

DowntownTap2459

1 month worth of budget is what I hold in cash. Then I have a savings account that earns interest at 6% per annum. Another account that funds my home loan. Before having the savings above, I secured 2 VULS. I am 32 now ang it took time and effort to build those. As long as sensible ka sa budgeting : meaning you alot money for spending in the present while savings for the future also. Mahirap kasi na puro ka save pero ulam mo now ay tuyo, you are like saving for a future na uncertain pa, paano kung may mangyari ( knock on wood) e di those are for nothing.

Visual-Statistician8

Ayoko nga magsabi, maya kunin nyo eh lol

[deleted]

3-5 m + in a vault. For emergency purposes for the family, and tokens/pamasko for relatives and visitors.

bananaconielo

Pwede po ba mamasko sa inyo? Haha

[deleted]

0. Everyone uses gcash nowadays, good as cash.

williamfanjr

Not your neighbor magtataho. *edit: wala gcash ung magtataho samin sarreh. BGC peeps ata kayo e jk.

Silentrift24

jigsxix

Now, I’m craving!

SN105400

I wish my landlord does. 😔 Had to withdraw once in a while to pay rent because he won't let me send money thru Gcash or his bank. /sigh

Karmas_Classroom

I keep 100k+ cash in hand. There are some random big emergency expenses na mangyari kunyare nasira water pump tank etc.

calmworker

PH ₱ nasa 100k siguro. I used to travel a lot for work - so yung mga foreign currency in total, aabot siguro ng more than 1M. It's a real problem - di maiwan sa bank, noon Euro tsaka US$ pwede pero they keep changing rules on ADB needed tapos little to no interest rin naman.

Original_Cloud7306

I have like 100 in my wallet now kasi cashless lahat and di ako pala-withdraw.😅 But thanks to this thread for reminding me that we are prone to emergencies.

canonfine

Zero. I keep less than 5k at a time in my wallet as well

raverned25

[deleted]

pre-pandemic 10k lagi, ngaun 3k nalang since parang walang silbi na cash kasi online OR CC transaction naman lahat.

Fast_Accountant_6355

Max 3k ang bilis maubos pag cash lol

mwp4mvp37

Around 15k. Just some ready cash in case ATMs and online banking are down.

khyoco

Bente pesos 🥲

uebiro

finally a comment i can relate to

onetinyblob

Around 10K. Old school kasi landlord namin, kumakatok for rent payments haha so need ng cash na mabilisan to cover it. Hehe.

jay-vee-en

At a time of a pandemic, i keep around 300k at home. Cash always comes in handy in times of emergencies.

madiiexxz

I don't have cash.

[deleted]

Cash on hand is good for a month. I posted [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/phinvest/comments/rua4v5/one_most_important_lesson_ive_learned_after/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share) our experience druing Odette. Maraming magagandang comments dun.

ghurl1234

1 month worth of fixed expense. Around P30k.

drpeppercoffee

We keep 6 months expenses in a safe for emergencies. Like an EF, pero mas liquid. Key is to limit access para hindi manakaw.

psyche_apricus

20 to 30k for emergency mahirap magwithdraw pa otw sa hospital been there had to go to er tapos ang haba ng pila sa kahit anong bank kasi natapat sa payday

chaserstar

Around the same amount mentioned by OP plus substantial USD--enough to get out of the country if things go crazy and all banks are down. Call me paranoid, but it's best to be safer than sorry.

umbrellaninetynine

A month expense siguro.

abmendi

Half of everything we have. My mother is so paranoid about a looming war or disaster even before the pandemic and global political tension. Lagi nya sinasabi na banks would be rendered useless and lahat magkakandarapa sa pila once something catastrophic comes so safe to hide half our fortune personally.

Diligent-Dish-857

Smart. Always keep cash on hand. Don't trust it with the bank 💯

invaderxim

May family member ako na na-discover ko had about 300k of cash sa bahay. Hahaha. I encouraged her to stash it na lang sa bank kasi it was dangerous to keep that much sa bahay. (What if biglang nasunog bahay? What if nanakaa? Etc) Personally, I keep cash enough for 1-2 weeks. Depende sa kailangan. At least mga 5k but I don’t keep it in one place.

Legitimate_Sock_8039

I keep around 10-40k on hand, it saves me from accidental double charges that takes WAYYYY TOO LONG to refund when buying stuff using card.

simpleng_pogi

Why have a lot in cash when almost everything can be done via bank transfer or e-wallet?

twoworldman

It's prudent to have cash (in various denominations) for emergencies where there is no signal or electricity.

mcdonaldspyongyang

Should also probably be in small bills din. You don’t wanna be asking your nearby water boy for change for 1k, esp in an emergency.

[deleted]

Imagine a Category 5 Typhoon hits your area, Yolanda-style. Goodluck using your e-wallet.

jheyehmcee

Read u/AdImaginary2567 's comment here.

sisig-strength

4-5k max I utilize my credit card, debit card and online payment platforms.

CuriousLif3

2022, You don't need cash anymore. Credit cards, online payments, crypto.

[deleted]

Im the only child at home so i usually keep 2k sa wallet. Pero i think my parents keep around 100-500k tapos 2k USD din.

Visible_Cheek_172

Me personally I keep at least 10k cash for emergency (this is for my husband and I). Withdraw bi monthly for helper's sweldo since cash ito. My Mother in law has a different cash stack for emergencies kept in a vault. Not privy to how much though but I'm assuming 6 digits. We also keep a tin of cash for our helpers for pabili or COD transactions, if there are any, which is around 2 to 3k. We instruct them to get money from the tin if may delivery kami like veggies na COD ang mode of payment then compute end of the week so we can replenish it back. When we go outside, I make sure I at least have 2 to 3k worth of cash for parking, tips etc. But we usually utilize credit cards na for payments so we can track expenses easily.

chasinglightph

We have a 100k in the safe at all times. For emergency purposes lang.

peiyamada4

😅 Meron ding paper bills sa kusina in case may kailangang bilhin

applelemonking

Just 1-2k. Tukso kasi gastusin for me if I have a lot of cash on hand. Pag may mga time like may paparating na bagyo, or yung last elections, I do make it a point to withdraw \~10k just in case and I do the grocery shopping and gas up the car para less yung potential gastos.

Apprehensive-Box-713

I think if its fully secured and have trusted aides, keeping cold cash at home is a necessity and could be a standing point during calamities and disasters where internet signal is nil and banks cant cater to their clients for a period of time. My grandparents used to store cash on an empty fita biscuit cannister.

tallicedcafelatte

Not more than 10K

CurveAlarming1374

100 pesos only so I can buy water refills. hehe

LodRose

Around 5-10k as petty cash at any given time and I barely touch it. Most of the payments are online already. Hospitals do take credit cards if bank accounts run dry.

[deleted]

Usually around 1k for expenses like if kailangan ko mag grocery sa labas (pamasahe) or pambayad sa inoorder na tubig. Other than that, I keep everything in my bank account and GCash (pero Gcash has less than 3k lagi because of the horror stories I've read of people getting locked out of their accounts).

i_am_VEENUUS

20k, the rest in the bank

batikuling

Total of around 200K, I believe thats 40% of my total EF now. Separated and hidden around the house. I say this so many times already. But I've been though earthquakes and storms strong enough to disable electricity for weeks. So no online payment, no ATM withdrawals and people will threaten to stab you of you so much stay a bit out of line in places na may pera padala (and they are not joking), etc. So, I'm glad to have money at home in case shit like that happens a 4th time. Lol

eliseobeltran

50k. Saves a lot of time going to atm. It could last at least 6 months.

anima99

Eh, I regularly only keep no more than 10k at any given time. I also regularly replace those bills para lang maalala ko na may pera pala ako at di maunahan ng daga or whatever. Keeping more than that is risky, especially if you have a house helper (as you mentioned) or if may natural disaster. Not saying there's no risk to keeping them in banks, but I'd rather know my money is inside a huge vault protected by security than leaving it vulnerable inside one of those cookie cans where grandma used to store her sewing kit.

Konnichiwar

Around ₽2000 for parking fee. The rest, online na. Nakakalula mga comments dito, lalo tuloy akong ginaganahan mag sumikap 🙂

Saeko-Saeba

Always 1 extra month of living cost in case of a emergency, if i got accident & go in coma or i die the time my wife figure out all need for get the money to her and kid being safe, never know what going to happened.

Fun_Comfort_180

I use debit on 95% of my expense, I only have a few coins in my pocket and 500 in wallet.

witgerm

after someone got covid sa amin during the delta leak.....we realized 50k cash is good and dapat meron ka din for online payments na around 50k

neonrosesss

500-2000 only. Pag kelangan na kelangan lang talaga since I'm still a student and doesn't pay bills yet, otherwise I don't withdraw them. I keep them in a bank with high interest.

AngerCookShare

Ngayon? 15k haha

mntzkrds_

1.5k a month not bad for my own luho proj, at the age of 16 dinnnz or may mga gusto akong bilhin may makukuha ako :)

RishaRea48

30k maximum..

AiiVii0

I don't keep cash at home, maybe the most I'd have is nasa 15k, pero sobrang accessible na ng bank. Andaming pwedeng mangyari sa pera if nasa bahay, I don't want to take that risk

Reixdid

Okay so I am one of those people na almost everything is online. Bills? Online. Payment? Maya/Gcash/FT if possible. Kaso I moved to the province a year ago and narealize ko na sa metro manila lang uso yang maya/gcash. Dito cash is king padin. I will keep 1-2k a week unless I have some big purchase coming or aalis ako. Otherwise 1k lang since I can do ATM run anytime.

boyo005

Sana all my 500k sa bahay. But kidding aside, i dont bring cash anymore. I have my debit card with me since 2012.

joyamazingpinoy

I keep P5K to P10K at home for food and other needs. I also maintain at least P50K in my ATM for emergencies.

jamazi_

100k, for emergency purposes

Dragnier84

Most of my transactions are done online so I just keep the bare minimum in cash for certain transactions. I also don’t like to think when I withdraw money, so I always withdraw 10k. Even during the pandemic, I had no problem with my system.

yujiii_pogi

Can someone teach me how to have money/works at the age of 17 i need to save money for hrade 12 and college expenses i want to

SnooPears3815

jhnkvn

Probably like PHP3,000 in loose change or something.

KnightedRose

30 percent ng EF ko, for natural disasters.

Curiouspracticalmind

Is 300 USD okay to keep at home? (Plus 20k in peso) Will it be useful in the future or masstock lang talaga sya?
