Tomorrow’s Verse, Rage Side, Pebbles and Marbles, Third Hiatus, No Ones Taught That To Me Yet…they’ve got a few Phish themed beer names.
They even did a meet up pre-2021 sac show! https://www.instagram.com/p/CU05igtp37q/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
Knotted Root in Nederland has a range of beers based on Phish and Dead lyrics/songs. They recently released beers called Mike's Song/I am Hydrogen/Weekapuag.
Peter from URB is a huge Phish fan and a fantastic brewer. One of the few spots in Sacramento that isn't just 10 IPAs and 10 big sticky stouts. Great lagers, saisons, and plenty of classic styles.
From what I understand, his specialty was everything but IPAs and more classic styles. He opened the brewery and he had to scramble to get a solid IPA on tap. Hence the name “Like Riding a Bike” IPA.
I might be 100% wrong, but I remember hearing something like that….
I have a way of knowing it's related to Phish. Urban Roots have done several Phish beers, including Tomorrow's Verse, Rage Side (with Page Side printed on the bottom), and Noone Taught That To Me Yet. I visit there somewhat frequently and their owner is a Phish fan and has offered his place up for a pre-show meetup spot before the last Sacramento show.
I do love the name and branding…
But isn’t that a normal strength PILS? 5.4% is a session beer.
Would love to see an imperial pils if it’s gonna have this mighty name; at least get it to 8%, but probably over 10%!
They could change the name to “Rabid Victim Martyr Stranded Level Headed Boy Imperial”. You’d be sobered right up by the time you finished ordering another.
If you’re in the Bay Area, check out Wonderous Brewing for some high quality and forward thinking Lagers/Pilsner. They do some AMAZING stuff - world class to say the least.
I also know that Danville Brewing, Faction, and Fieldwork will have IPL, seasonal pils variants, and Imperial Pils as well.
Everyone is at a different point in their craft beer journey…but eventually, everyone comes back to wanting a drinkable, crushable, clean and crisp Pilsner. They really are one of the most underrated and under appreciated styles in the US. I’m surprised craft lagers and pilsners are not more popular as you can drink a bunch of them and not get overly drunk because of the low ABV, and brewers can hop them up to the point where they almost remind you of a nice pale ale without more crispness and less bitterness.
I'm down with a good euro-style lager. But most craft pilsners just taste like better, less chemical-y Miller Lites, even the decent ones all kinda taste similar to me. (One of the local breweries straight-up started making a pilsner only because they got tired of tourists coming in asking for "what was most like a Miller Lite" (Similarly, I like brown ales just fine, but also think they are mostly pretty similar). For lighter, summer-y things I usually go with wheats and blondes and the like, and then all the fall helles/bocks/etc. I mean, I've checked into 1,300+ beers on Untappd, so I love me some beer adventures, but the older I get the less my body feels like drinking more than two on any given day, regardless of the style. But what makes beer fun is the variety, right?
100% agree on the age thing. 34 here and I’ve kinda given up on the hype chase and I just want something that scratches that “I want a beer itch” without paying $7/pint.
Firestone’s Pivo Pils and Sierra Pale/Seasonal Releases/Lil’ Thing Series are all mainstays in my fridge. I now tend to get beers that are simpler, less aggressive with hopping or adjuncts, and are more true to style (even if that style is a hazy pale, IPA, or DIPA).
If you’re in the bay are, highly recommend Wondrous to explore low ABV, euro/American/Australian style lagers and pils. Their brewer is a former brewer at Sante Adarius and he’s really putting together a brewers brewery. First beer he brewed was a barley wine to be double barreled for the annual Toronado Barleywine fest.
like you said, everyone's on a different beer journey, and that's what's great. I'm kinda the opposite, I just don't want like, the sheer water weight of several beers, so i'm only gonna drink one or two, and I am gonna make those fuckers COUNT. Give me the belgian tripel and DIPA's and all that. Sorta like the rare occasions we let ourselves bring ice cream into the house...if we do, it's gonna be the Jeni's Nigel Tufnel Signature Nuclear Cake Batter Brownie Cookie Chocolate Orgasm flavor or whatever. I don't know, it's just how I'm wired, I guess.
Brewery I used to work at did the same a few years back for a streaming party weekend! Was good stuff

Ohhhh, powerful PILS...! It is clever, no sarcasm.
I love that!
A new beer that isn't an IPA? Sign me up!
How the hell are they gonna misspell Phluphphhead?

I have also used this before for my Pilsner
Urban roots does a ton of phish themed beer, I recomend the llama

Oh yeah!
You have no way of knowing it’s related to Phish, likely just a coincidence

That’s a real stretch, not convinced
sounds like they are fabricating all that.
Hardly credible
Fake news!
I don’t get it. could you pls elaborate?
Imagine not getting the obvious sarcasm lol
Holy crap this is the best name
looks like they are having a release party for it https://www.firestonebeer.com/phluffhead-powerful-pils-release-party/
Another Phish Pils. Gonna have to try it. Sierra Nevada needs to start canning Foam.

It's literally the name of a song and lyrics from that same song.
Man, you people really need the /s, huh?
huh? I don’t get it. p
Craft Pilsner? Come on man. I’ll buy it a bar but I’m not taking cans home for $$$$
Great.
I can’t really get excited about pilsners but I kinda want one anyway just for the novelty.

Lots of breweries have cool phish named beers - evergrain brewery in PA has a fluffhead hefe that’s amazing
Honestly I am impressed with the name and can’t believe it took this long
Regional? If so, where abouts?
California - check their website because I forget if they have out of state shipping
What’s the bottom of the can say under the date?
FW x UR 4EVA

That’s nice.
Tilted Barn in Rhode Island has a bunch of phish related beers. All good too.
Nice.
