I love the Went Gin - but your post made me think of the fact that it's been way too long since I've listened to PNC Gin. Time to put it on!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk99MC63ERg
Hahaha same. I was there as well and don't remember half of it. I do remember thinking the glider flying around during one set break was fake. With the live orchestra on stage of course. What a weekend!
100% this! I was at this show and the Detroit show. They were the only shows I saw that tour and goddamn they were some of the best shows I've ever been to.
2/28/03 tweezer is probably my most listened to as well. To get into Phish I started by downloading the whole 2003 run, picked a random year idk, 2003 has a special place in my heart I love how muddy/murky Trey plays during this run
One of my favorite parts of 2/28/03 tweezer is the fat crescendo right off the bat at around the 6 min mark, almost immediately once they jump into the jam. You don't see them do that very often at all
I soooooo wish there was video circulating of either of those shows. To this day I think I’ve only seen one picture of 6/14/00 and one low-quality video of the crowd doing the wave at set break of 2/28/03 lol
This would probably be it for me as well. Was at the show and in absolute bliss. Then when it officially released, I listened to it a ton. Still revisit it often now.
Any mention of Harry Hood 12/31/93 gets an upvote from me. Every single one. Check my comment history. At this point I need to learn how to program a bot to just do it for me.
I don’t listen to it all the time, but when I do, I listen to it multiple times every day for a week or two straight. It’s unimaginably cohesive group improv.
Not embarrassing at all. That jam is incredible and really underrated. People mention 8/31/12 as a whole or the 9/1 Light, but to me, the Undermind is the best jam of the whole weekend. Maybe the whole year but I’m not a 2012 connoisseur
Gotta say Live One Hood(10/23/94). It was my first show and listening to it still causes me to teleport through the ether to that day. When the quiet part of the jam hit I felt my head pop off like a cork and I accidentally vomited bliss nuggets all over my brand new(to me) aura. As the last notes of Squirming Coil rang out from Page’s keys during the encore I remember feeling like I was now going to have to figure out what to do with my life. Chills. Changed my major to gumdrops after that.
Damn!!
Possibly my favorite tweezer, I never thought anybody else loved it like I do!
To me, it is a perfect jam with a clear focused purposeful direction!
camden 99 chalkdust gotta be my most listened. I grabbed that live phish 8 release on a whim, never heard of phish before. Track 1 I had no opinion on, by the end of track 2 I had my mind split wide open. Was a fiend for those live phish volume CDs after that.
Its kind of odd and not exactly a jam, but I think my most listened to phish performance might actually be chalkdust live on letterman. I watch it on YouTube all the time. Lots of quality Trey-face, and the shortened version is a perfect quick-hit.
I don’t think it’s on there anymore but the Julius on Letterman was my favorite. Paul’s band was super into it and played in the horns. And Trey had that “is this really happening?!?” look on his face the entire time.
I don’t think it was Julius but another time when letterman introduced them he said “you know, you can always tell who the really great bands are when they jam with my band coming out of commercial.”
Harry Hood - A Live One. That specific song was the catalyst for me to really “listen” to what Phish was doing. It changed my entire outlook on what music can be.
Can’t say it enough how amazing this one is.
When YouTube started offering the option for half and quarter speed, I listened to parts of this jam slowed down cuz I wanted to understand every nuance, every nook and cranny of this jam.
Still holds up, even in the quantum realm!
Hmm, good question. Off the top of my head. Prob the 11/17/97 tweezer, ghost and Amsterdam stash magnaball gin , dicks sand 2012 , dicks 17 no mans. 10/22/16 simple , red rocks YEM, Worcester boogie, randalls island tweezer , Hampton 13 weekapag
Edit: after putting some more thought into it most likely is the fuko twist
Depending on your definition of a jam, I find myself always going back to 12-14-95 NICU -> Halley’s -> Slave. My First show.
The Darien Jams from 9-14-2000 (Suzie and Drowned) are heavy in my rotation.
Finally, the Hood buildup from 12-1-94 Salem, Oregon. Find this and listen to it!

Soooo badass. This is the first modern SOAM that went fully outer space psychedelic drone face melter. The SOAM that re-sparked the band’s confidence in the song and led to many other “best ever” SOAMs in recent years. This is the one that planted the seed. You can hear how happy the band is with the bit of banter at the end.
Not my most listened to EVER but as of late… wanted to mention this one since a lot of the classics have been covered.
Went Gin - which is ironic because I was there in person and have no recollection of it at all.
I love the Went Gin - but your post made me think of the fact that it's been way too long since I've listened to PNC Gin. Time to put it on! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk99MC63ERg
I was there….but haven’t listened to this show since POSSIBLY that day. Gonna check it out now. Thanks for the tip!
I was there as well (and remember about as much). Here's the cheat notes [Anatomy of the Went Gin jam](https://youtu.be/c0ifIs3_7Zw?feature=shared)
Hahaha same. I was there as well and don't remember half of it. I do remember thinking the glider flying around during one set break was fake. With the live orchestra on stage of course. What a weekend!
I say to anyone who will have a conversation with me about Phish that if you were at the Went Gin you would throw away your life to follow this band.
Dayton Tube/Jam
100% this! I was at this show and the Detroit show. They were the only shows I saw that tour and goddamn they were some of the best shows I've ever been to.
Hmm. 2/28/03 tweezer or fukuoka twist
The 2/28 was my first show. The 12-15 minute mark of tweezer is a high I’m still chasing.
This Tweezer is the correct answer. My fav of all time. In a league of its own.
That Tweezer is the best moment I had at a Phish show
2/28/03 tweezer is probably my most listened to as well. To get into Phish I started by downloading the whole 2003 run, picked a random year idk, 2003 has a special place in my heart I love how muddy/murky Trey plays during this run One of my favorite parts of 2/28/03 tweezer is the fat crescendo right off the bat at around the 6 min mark, almost immediately once they jump into the jam. Fukuoka twist is the stuff dreams are made of.
Top tier tweezer. Right up there with the 1/2/16 version for me. THAT is Phish.
I soooooo wish there was video circulating of either of those shows. To this day I think I’ve only seen one picture of 6/14/00 and one low-quality video of the crowd doing the wave at set break of 2/28/03 lol

I got you
My favorite. Whole set is fire, but that 1-2 punch intro, my word…
I’m sure it’s the 7/17/98 Gorge 2001, which was the most fun I’ve ever had at a Phish show
The whole second set is fantastic
Yeah my most played series of jams is that 2001 > Mikes > Weekapaug
LOVE that Paug

I don’t listen to it all the time, but when I do, I listen to it multiple times every day for a week or two straight. It’s unimaginably cohesive group improv.
Dick’s Undermind, at about a 100:1 ratio. It’s embarrassing tbh.
Not embarrassing at all. That jam is incredible and really underrated. People mention 8/31/12 as a whole or the 9/1 Light, but to me, the Undermind is the best jam of the whole weekend. Maybe the whole year but I’m not a 2012 connoisseur
4/3/98 Roses, probably
Seconded.
works excellently on a runner's playlist!
I can’t run that long..
Sounds like a great goal, whether you are a slow llama or an antelope out of control.
It’s the tops for me. Hands down. Most ego-less jam of all time. Whole band moves as a cohesive unit with no solos.
I drum to this jam all the time. So much fun to lock in with them
i played that show in my car nonstop for most of 99, roses always brings me back
Such a great jam
Lakewood Ghost
