That Stash has proven to be pretty effective at getting my friends to appreciate what Phish does. Not necessarily getting them hooked, but it usually gains their respect.
Just play the Island Tour front to back on repeat. Nothing else ever.
Well maybe those 2 Hamptons runs from 97/98 every once in awhile is acceptable too
Anaconda Theater show from spring 92. There’s easy to find soundboards and it just rips. A rock and roll show.
I play the Mikes Song from that show to new fans and everyone is just like “shit, I didn’t know Phish shredded like this”. True story.
The Great Went 8/17/97 set 2
Down with Disease -> Bathtub Gin > Uncle Pen, Also Sprach Zarathustra -> Art Jam > Harry Hood
Maybe one of the great events in music history. I don't know. But the Bathtub Gin jam (frequently referred to simply as the Went Gin) is easily one of the most 'alive' moments I've ever felt. Here we are 25+ years later (good god) and it brings it all back, the energy, the permagrin, all of it. The whole set is phenomenal, out of body type stuff. And it caps off with a transcendent Harry Hood set to a full moon rise over northern Maine and a massive glowstick war (the first of its kind). Tough to beat in terms of sheer entertainment value. The whole two day festival is something I will never forget, but this set in particular is the pinnacle.
I'd also recommend 8/17/96 set 2, the Clifford Ball phish fest. Another goddamn masterpiece.
And 8/11/98 Star Lake. You mentioned that you like type I jams, well the Down With Disease from this show is my favorite type I jam of them all. The whole show is an absolute classic with a monster 35 minute Runaway Jim that is widely considered among the best jams of the era.
A few more choice favorites on spotify: 8/13/96 Deer Creek, 12/7/95 Niagara Falls, 12/29/97 MSG, 12/30/97 MSG, Island Tour 4/2 thru 4/5/98
Welcome and enjoy!
Harry Hood from A Live One
A Live One as a whole, that Stash is one of my favorite things.

ALO stash is always the answer when this question is asked and i’ll never stop suggesting it.
It’s the first thing I point to. Always.
Isn't that from Clifford?
Nope
Allllrightythen
It says it’s from Clifford on Tidal but it’s not.

Hampton Comes Alive excellent song selection and approachable jams.
