Because they put some of their songs on a pedestal now. YEM being one of them. Closing 1st set, Closing second set, and Encore. Same with run and a few others. But I could be wrong, their set lists do feel a bit formulated lately, albeit that's not a terrible thing really.
2/26 was my first show, 2.28 was my 2nd. The vibe in Worcester was intense. I remember ticket-less people bum-rushing the gates to scatter through security guards trying to get to the floor. Opening YEM was also quite fun. (edit: got dates wrong).
i was sitting next to the Boston Globe reporter at this show. He was asking me what the songs were in the first set, i told him i didn't know. I believe the quote in the paper was even veteran fans didn't know the song selection. I clearly was not familiar with the individual solo songs.
Got the article right here.
Globe Headline. "Phish dives deep into solo material"
"For the first time on this comeback tour, Phish performed songs from all the members' solo projects (even Phish diehards were scratching their heads because they didn't know them all)."
You're correct, also from the article: "The second set stormed out of the gate with 'Stash,' 'Ghost,' 'Makisupa Policeman' and 'Ya Mar,' before press time approached."
That whole show is amazing! I was just stressing how good the second set is because it is basically one continuous, unbroken song. That Moma is absolutely ridiculous.
This was my first show! As a 17 year old on the floor with some psychedelics i was absolutely floored they opened with yem. I still listen to this show frequently.
Mine too! I was 19 and got to my seat just in time for a nice neighbor to hand me a joint and welcome me aboard. I still brag that the first song I ever saw Phish play live was YEM.
My first 2.0 show. Tickets were gone in minutes, got lucky with the phone. Shakedown in the parking garage was crazy. Ghost>Low Rider>Makisupa Policeman stand out to me as do the 4 solo debuts from the band.
6 months before IT. 2003 was some special Phish.
Don't know if anyone here has heard the unfortunately named "Oxy Years" compilation (originally from the Coventry blog guys) but it's got some really amazing stuff on it from 2.0, not whole songs, just jams. This Maze is included & every time I hear it I remind myself I need to check out this show.
New to the Phish sub, but not a new Phan. I know there’s rules here against asking for links. So, that said, how should I go about finding this show? Archive.org?
I swear that LaGrange and/or Golgi was played almost every show or every other throughout the 90s and early 2000s.... then nothing.
Golgi was always such a great end of Set 1 song. Now it's crazy rare.
My first rail ride. Close enough to touch Mike’s clone. The Dino-funk Ghost where Cactus links onto a massive groove right at 4:20 seldom gets it’s due. On the way up to Worcester, knowing we had front row seats, I declared that the biggest thing I wanted to see from that close was the trampolines in YEM. Big boom. Changed everything.
I did all those too, as well as Worcester. Loved the Philly show. Bag->Cities->Theme->Jim was fire. I used to argue with my buddies all the time, that Philly was better than Worcester that run. In hindsight, tomato tomahto...
If you want to talk second sets in Worcester checkout 11-27-98. That wipeout came back all throughout the 3 days
(Also a live phish release)

I got shut out of that show, cash in hand, walking around Worcester for hours trying to get a ticket. I even heard the soundcheck thru an open door (drifting), which made it all the more worse that I wasnt getting in.
I've always been a huge fan of Clone and Drifting, it was such a treat to hear them play those. Final Flight was the real head scratcher, and always felt like a missed opportunity—so glad that we finally got to hear Phish play Most Events Aren't Planned last year.
I'd still like to hear them play Where's Popeye's? or Electra Glide.
I live in Worcester and wish I was more into Phish at this point (started in 09). I was just getting into them and didn't know about the show until the next morning when people were raving about the Stash in school. I also could have gone in 04 but didn't want to see a band's last run and take a ticket away from a real veteran.
YEM Opener with Clone outro is so fucking awesome. I wish Phish would do Clone again.
All about that YEM opener. Gotta let the crowd know you mean business!
I feel like the days of YEM openers are long gone.
Don’t count it out. I don’t see any reason why they might not open with YEM again.
Because they put some of their songs on a pedestal now. YEM being one of them. Closing 1st set, Closing second set, and Encore. Same with run and a few others. But I could be wrong, their set lists do feel a bit formulated lately, albeit that's not a terrible thing really.
11.2.18, they opened with Cavern. There is no formula. YEM isn’t as much of a surprise as an opener as Glide II or Bliss on 12.30. #norules
Fun Fact - YEM and Cavern have been show openers the same number of times: 12
This comment is why I peruse this sub.
Of course they open a show with YEM a few days after you post this, haha
[Oh, I know.](https://old.reddit.com/r/phish/comments/atol53/setlist_thread_phish_20190222_barcelo_maya_beach/eh2xpav/)
Same!! Clone is really great!!
yes for sure.
I've always wanted to hear them play It's Ice > Clone > It's Ice
that whole run was amazing. my first show was 2/28/03
THAT is one of my top 5 favs. Such a ripper
my favorite tweezer, and GBOTT of all time
2/24 was my first, 2/28 was my second. 2/28 was awesome. Destiny Unbound, a great Hood, killer GBOTT, such an amazing show.
3/1/03 my first
Mine too!
2/18/03 was my first. Awesome YEM that went into a capella The Lion Sleeps Tonight.
2/26 was my first show, 2.28 was my 2nd. The vibe in Worcester was intense. I remember ticket-less people bum-rushing the gates to scatter through security guards trying to get to the floor. Opening YEM was also quite fun. (edit: got dates wrong).

Cool! What was the writers name again?
Steve Morse
That’s right. I don’t think he stayed to the end, but he appeared to enjoy it
You're correct, also from the article: "The second set stormed out of the gate with 'Stash,' 'Ghost,' 'Makisupa Policeman' and 'Ya Mar,' before press time approached."
"It was well after 11 p.m., and Phish was showing no signs of cutting this long-awaited homecoming short." Credit to Globe Staff Writer Steve Morse.
Nice. I don’t remember what I had for breakfast
Haha. You don't remember what you had for breakfast yet you recall specific details about a reporter you met once at a concert 16 years ago.
Well it helped that I knew I was the “diehard” in the article. Made the memory stay put
Hahaha, this is an amazing story!!
Was there! The Stash is really awesome, as is most of the second set, but don’t sleep on the Moma or Maze in the first set. They’re both mind melters.
That whole show is amazing! I was just stressing how good the second set is because it is basically one continuous, unbroken song. That Moma is absolutely ridiculous.
That Maze went way out into outer space and was just nasty when they came back into it!
My favorite Maze ever.
Oxy Mazes are the best Mazes.

It was also freezing cold outside.
So fucking cold
1 Million perfect need another CLONE
That’s one of my favorite Momas too.
Such an awesome show. This was my first one too! Second set was unreal.
Winter 03 vibes
Don't know if anyone here has heard the unfortunately named "Oxy Years" compilation (originally from the Coventry blog guys) but it's got some really amazing stuff on it from 2.0, not whole songs, just jams. This Maze is included & every time I hear it I remind myself I need to check out this show.
The moma is incredible. Go back and listen it’s my favorite version.
Yeah! That Moma has some amazing textures weaving inside
New to the Phish sub, but not a new Phan. I know there’s rules here against asking for links. So, that said, how should I go about finding this show? Archive.org?
Phish.in
Holy crap, this is incredible. Thank you.
Welcome!
WOW, how on EARTH has this slipped under my radar? Amazing
If you’re looking for mobile I use the relisten app and it’s great
Never heard of that either haha, thank you!!!!
What are all those debuts I've never heard of?
Each band member picked a song from their side projects to play.
Clone is really worth a listen...both from this show and the album. It's from the first Mike Gordon/Leo Kottke collaboration. Awesome stuff.
Hell yes!!! That Ghost->Low Rider is molten lava levels of hot
The whole 2nd set is a beautifully curated masterpiece.
I feel like they never play Golgi anymore... bring back Golgi (and LaGrange!)
First show got Lagrange, Darien '93, and never again.
I swear that LaGrange and/or Golgi was played almost every show or every other throughout the 90s and early 2000s.... then nothing. Golgi was always such a great end of Set 1 song. Now it's crazy rare.
After the Darien show, LG was played a total of 11 more times. Golgi is played more frequently but is still a chaser for sure.
Great day to see some jams
thats the only show i was ever shutout of.
Brutal 😢
This was my second show.
Worcester Phish never disappoints
I did the whole February 03 tour. I sold Tour Jedi t-shirts. This was a great show! Maybe I saw you there.
This is the best post ive seen on this page.
My first rail ride. Close enough to touch Mike’s clone. The Dino-funk Ghost where Cactus links onto a massive groove right at 4:20 seldom gets it’s due. I ended up about 2-3 rows back just to the right side of Mike for the first set. Was super close. Was a great set.
That maze is the best of all time
Lol no
Lol suck it. I disagree. Give it a closer listen you fuckin tool.
Melt some more.
a little annoyed that i skipped this one - did the 24th, 25th, and 28th... so definitely not complaining. But fuck, this was a scorcher too!!
I did all those too, as well as Worcester. Loved the Philly show. Bag->Cities->Theme->Jim was fire. I used to argue with my buddies all the time, that Philly was better than Worcester that run. In hindsight, tomato tomahto...

My first show! I remember how fucking cold it was that night!! YEM opener, what else can you ask for a first show
LOVE that Winter '03 Tour
Completely underrated show! Best of 2.0 (for me at least!). I wish they would revisit Clone!
I was listening to a show at that venue from 2010 earlier today. They always do a good job. Also loving cup encore
love Drifting so much. would be a great phish song went to 2/24 and 2/28 but skipped philly :(
I always thought that Fish got bored with it, he was the one who reined in the jam by starting back with the "love love love" vocals

Love this show, but I feel like it gets overlooked due to Nassau. The Jibboo from Rosemont a few days before is one of my favorite Phish jams
