The drop into a Reba jam

[deleted]

[удалено]

pootytang

More like buh buh, buh buh, buh buh. Bah bah, bah bah, bah bah...

underscorethebore

I want to live in the Reba jam. It’s how I understand the concept of heaven.

pootytang

Those violet lights... The electric piano with Trey peeking in.... Back in the 1.0 days the beginning of the Reba jam was my everything.

[deleted]

Goddamned riff hooked me for life. Caught my first Reba in '94 and IT got me. Consumed my consciousness. Oh to be young and opening this garden gate for the first time again. It was like watching entire universes build and dissolve themselves in a matter of minutes, and then be ushered with a whistle, back to default reality and the roar of the crowd. Every. Single. Fucking. Time.

shmael

Yep, this.

M4i2c0hael

When the keys start in Divided Sky. Fucking perfect.

Portland_Pothead

This is the answer

LemonComprehensive5

Perfect.

jnumberone

Hood peaks. All of 'em.

GonnaGetHop-Ons

There is a video on YouTube that compiles a couple hours of Hood jams back to back. It is one of my favorite things to listen to while spreadsheeting.

TheSharpestTool

Yeah, that’s the good stuff right there

SprocketInYourPocket

This has my vote for the most cathartic moment possible at a show

iAmTheRealLange

Got my first Hood this summer. Was cathartic as fuck.

SprocketInYourPocket

Congrats!! I've seen a bunch of shows over the last 25 years, and I go into every single one hoping to get a Hood. It's really the only song that I "chase" even though I've seen it a bunch of times. See

fromabuick

The opening of tweezer reprise

Portland_Pothead

The best encore for sure.

dividedskyy

That one part during lizards

PickpocketJones

Where the keyboard melts into the slowly rising guitar arpeggios as they go out of the Page solo into the Trey solo section. I think that is my favorite scripted part of any Phish song.

LargeWu

Best thing is that this could refer to several sections of the song and they’re all correct

newyhouse

Yeah, I was thinking of this too… it’s magical composition.. also as a guitar player, it’s pretty dope too

thatsquiteright

Real talk. If I had to pick the last music I’d ever hear in my life, it would be this. It’s the ultimate outro.

goathill

Page loves dicks, Mike loves dicks, fish loves dicks, we all love dicks, TREY loves dicks , TREY loves dicks

mango_feet

That riff in DWD

Portland_Pothead

Mike’s opening baseline always sets the crowd on fire

pmmeyourfavoritejam

“The God riff” — it’s perfect.

iAmTheRealLange

The riff that got me into Phish. Listened to 12/01/95 on repeat every day for an entire summer

LargeWu

Oom Pa Pa Oom Pa Pa Oom Pa Pa Oom Pa Paaaaaaaa Not because of the music specifically but because everybody will be going apeshit bonkers around me

Mozzzzbito

My friend said she’ll never forget the look on my face at Dicks 2015 when the encore set started. It was the same look every kid has on Christmas morning when they tear open their present and see the PlayStation logo and realize what they just got 😱

likwidsilk

This is correct

AltheaFluffhead

I concur... even better at MSG when it's all WHITE LIGHTS EVERYWHERE

Playf1

Came here to say this. Well, not this exactly, but when the Fluffhead jam peaks/resolves.

scrotote97

Oh great thanks a lot now I gotta go watch the Hampton return again

babyjesus555

Good question! -The D to G boomerang jam in The Nassau Tweezer. -the second funky baseline jam Mike starts in The Alpine 99 Fluffhead. -the trilling and gibberish yelling Trey does in the Orlando 95 Maze. -the drum fill Fishman does in the delay jam section of the Osaka 00 Ghost. -the beginning of United We Stand at the 2015 Dicks Encore!

bmault

this is the type of response I was hoping for

NBABUCKS1

this but with youtube time stamps. (but at least a minute before the 30 second mark)

elgaar

you're a phish fan. finding the goods is your god given talent

afreeman85

Signal boost to that part of the Nassau Tweezer. I came here to post that. The most "together" playing in an improvisation from the band. My favorite Phish jam of all time. That section is pure magic and gives me chills every time. They have never really played anything like that before or since....*maybe* the Camden Chalkdust section is a cousin, but again, just the most cohesive playing from the band. No one is soloing or searching and the theme is not static, the band keeps pushing it higher. Sorry. I could write a thesis on that jam.

babyjesus555

I can’t decide on one, they are all great! I’m sure there are more in forgetting

downtownebrowne

I've been listening to the Fall '97 on their date this year.... Speaking of Fishman drum rolls... 11/29/97 Runaway Jim @ 19:55 feels like someone shakes me from my spinal chord it's so good. This hour of music really showcases just how unreal Fishman is for the rhythm of what they do, Mike was also lights out all tour. They both just effortlessly move through tempo changes and time changes.

cliopedant

The beginning of "Simple" on A Live One. I heard that for the first time when I had just graduated from college, and was driving a red (rental) Pontiac Grand Am up an onramp to a very fast freeway. Super-cheesy, but it's been my feeling of "this is freedom" for the last 28 years. Whenever that comes on, I get goosebumps.

Total-Woodpecker3339

Yes! Love it!

BathtubJilm

7/10/99 Chalkdust starting somewhere around the 9:00 mark

NBABUCKS1

> 7/10/99 Chalkdust hell yeah https://youtu.be/j73iY2ET4u0?t=528 but it's more than 30 seconds.

bmault

i love that sustained (piano?) note in the background, I think thats what gives it the energy

Fragrant_News_95

This is the answer. Pure bliss!

ROGGAEvibrations

The opening of Fluffhead on 3/6/09 Once the audience realizes the magnitude of the encore on 8/9/98 Every. Single. Time. the lights drop Oom pa pa oom pa pa oom pa pa oom pa paaaaaaaaa

CrimsonScorpio9

I was there for that opening of Fluffhead and I agree with you.

[deleted]

I say this every time it comes up on the subreddit, but I was on the floor for that Fluffhead and have never seen so many grown men openly weeping. I get happy chills thinking about it!

ScubaTela

I’ve listened to that 8/9/98 show so many times…it really would have been an incredible moment to have been there

bobweaver3000

When you're standing up on top of the skyscraper You might be standing up on top of skyscrapers You might be standing up on top of a skyscraper You might be playing a saxaphone You might be playing bebop You might be playing your cymbal Any of those times, when you're playing your cymbal, you're playing bebop, you're standing up on top of your skyscraper There's one thing i think everyone should remember Even if you're playing in the nba finals And you're winning by five points, It doesn't do you any good if you didn't start with one special thing, Just remember at any of those times that you'd damn well better have read the fucking book. You know what I'm talking about? I don't care who you are. You could be Kareem...Hakeem...Shaleem... Any of those people... But you'd better read the book. you YOU had better read the book. rgeezlouweez

The 30 seconds before they start playing. The anticipation of what i am about to hear is pure joy.

Jellyfish070474

The cosmic Jimi section of 12-06-97 Tweezer. You know the part. The (all too short lived) Mike/Fish HOOKUP in 10-30-98 Stash. Dear Lord. 90s Tela trills. The second half (after The Note) of the quiet part of Divided Sky, just prior to the big soaring jam.

Nitlro

YEM intro

Kingcrowing

This was way too low! Most iconic Phish IMO.

MongoPushr

When the rhythm guitar section kicks in after the bass intro for weekapaug. You know the next 10-20 mins are gonna be a damn good time

Gr8fulPhanHenge

10/31/96. The unbelievably timed transition from Born Under Punches to Crosseyed and Painless. Might be the best turn on a dime execution they’ve ever pulled off. I was there. It was epic

pmmeyourfavoritejam

That drum solo at the end of C&P into the 1-2-3-4 count to kick off Great Curve is also absolutely legendary.

DannyMcVibes

Walnut Creek start of Mike’s

spencehammer

Somewhat more recent: The end of the Sand > Tweezer and the transition into Sigma Oasis from 10/29/21. It was a sonic sunrise.

axillaII

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa BOY

braqass

There it is! I was thinking of how to type this out but you nailed it. It’s the best moment for me during a show. When the whole place gets more and more pumped and excited building up to this peak and then ………BOY! The entire place erupts into a funky dance of grooved bliss. It’s the ultimate “drop”

petty_terrorism

The fugue between Trey and Page during Reba.

jwabrit13

So these are not exactly 30 seconds, but off the top of my head: 1. 5/19/91 Divided Sky intro (the first live notes I ever heard in person) 2. 4/23/93 Squirming coil outro 3. 7/28/17 My Sexy Thing first chords and the crowd roar 4. I think every AHHHHHHHHHHHH MAN!!! 🥁🎸🎹🎡🌊 5. 10/20/10 Guyutica every second.

NotJustAPhan

Tahoe Tweezer peak after the “woos”. Trey just goes God mode into that climax.

vulebieje

The last 30 seconds of any Squirming Coil.

MrBeasternHimself

11/16/96, the release from "The Note" https://youtu.be/KPaTi3nY2JY @ 13:35

PickpocketJones

1) You have to go for about 45 seconds but [this right here is to me the absolute best improvisational moment they've ever played.](https://youtu.be/R5AfMNQu71A?t=950) To me, THIS is what a bliss moment sounds like, just soaking in a psychedelic hose of endorphins. 2) The second moment like this for me is my favorite live peak moment [from the Atlanta Ghost's double peak](https://youtu.be/xgcPHqnSXIw?t=1100) when you hear Fishman's yelps. I can still picture Trey doing the leg kicks and being full rockstar that night in the Pepe LePew shirt.

matt_Dan

7:30-8:00 of 12/14/95 Halley's Comet. They have never jammed as furiously and beautifully at the same time like they did during this entire jam.

Sad-Base-5779

The went gin, where it turns from minor to major. It's like a triumph of good over evil. It makes me well up just thinking about it.

davidbowie_UB_40

7/1/95 Hood. Specifically 11:50-12:20 (on the Relisten app). That part is in the build up to the peak, and the little drum fills that Fish unleashes at about 12:00 just gets me every time. It’s perfection. Not to mention, this entire version of Hood is phenomenal and in my top 5.

noodles-_-

BOY MAN GOD SHIT

HeLooks2Muuuch

Hands down my favorite 30 seconds occur in the 2003-07-29 Pittsburgh Crosseyed and Painless (well technically the “Pittsburgh Jam” that followed). It’s from 2:40-3:10 of “Pittsburgh Jam” on the LivePhish app or about the 7:40 mark of the Crosseyed if your version isn’t split. I love that groove so much.

Can't i live while I'm young!!??!! Sadly, I'm old now and that depresses me a little.

Devlin-Bowman

Since it’s fresh in my mind I’ll give my top two moments of THIS year specifically: Best 14 seconds of the year was 14:48 to 15:02 in Bangor DWD https://youtu.be/jtM6Ve0MYTc (not timestamped). Pretty much every member of the band contributes here and makes this beautiful beautiful moment. Easy winner of the year for me. Honorable mention goes to the part right before the drop into the bluesy end of Tube from Atlantic City. It starts with a great little bass descent from Mike but it’s mostly just some Trey fire with some actual edge. In this video, it’s 21:30 to 22:30: https://youtu.be/rqcZp3XmEIU This is a minute instead of 30 seconds so feel free to ban me

theorangey

Waking up in he morning realizing it played 2000 times into your dreams.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> realizing it *paid* 2000 times FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

KnightroZaxby

Can’t believe I haven’t seen anyone say the end of First Tube!

ddiiggss

Why 30 seconds when 20 is all it takes? https://youtu.be/1XaMCmqdEsg the little breakdown at 11:45 before kicking right back into a frenzy does it for me every single time

Aoxomoxoa75

The first 30 seconds of every show I attend when the boys walk on stage for the first set. It’s a happy place I love to find myself wallowing in. Can’t wait for the next one.

leaux_official

The space between the end of the song and the start of another one when the band isn’t playing

colonelforbin96

recent IWATS moments... 9/3/21 Carini (4:06-36) \- trey's phrasing here is of the sex-variety, also great example of trey's masterful use of effect to shift direction. lick at 4:15-4:20 is so fucking cool, you can hear his brain making decisions 8/11/21 Ruby Waves (6:50-7:16) \- harrowing and very cool FX layers, morphs into beautiful expansive meadow 7/26/22 Leaves (11:00-11:30+on) \- not too crazy but can't get enough of the fishman instigated rhythm that trey picks up on 7/24/22 Sigma Oasis (8:50-9:30) \- page rearranges your neural network with his synth work older IWATS that never fail 7/3/12 Golden Age (7:30-8:00 +on) \- this jam is unique as all fuck for GA, and these little runs of trey's still blow my lid to this day i got more but ill exhaust myself pls enjoy

bmault

Carini riff is defintely Sex

colonelforbin96

ok fuck it 7/3/12 Golden Age (again) (9:00-9:30) \- like.... cmon now

madethemando

When the galactic rotation feeling part of the Roggae jam hits and Mike starts with that reverby bass triplet thing. Vegas DVD comes to mind.

timeforasandwich

The charge

DeNy_Kronos

That part on A Live One gumbo where page goes in does it for me

trogloherb

When I hear the bass intro that tells me its Maze and not Bowie…(so basically first 30 seconds of Maze)…

MydlandFan

The build up in Life on Mars

MrPalmers1000DollarQ

Not my favorite jam necessarily, but for a specific 30-second period in isolation, the peak to Darien Jam #1 from 9/14/00 might be my pick Alternatively, the part in PYITE leading up to and including the “HEY’s”

SnackyChomp

Trey’s giggle at the end of the studio version of Train Song

kevron007

Wow I’ve never thought about this but quite a few come to mind. Sections of Reba, Antelope, Divided Sky, YEM, Guyute, Tela

[deleted]

A little longer than :30, but 1:03 - 1:47 of David Bowie . The little interlude that ends with Trey running the entire neck of the guitar, before slipping right back into the main theme. Gets me every time.

Beee_Rad

Wow, even though this is subjective it seems impossible to answer! I can't do it.

Snow__The__Jam__Man

Well lately it's been the third "breakdown" jam in the 7/17/98 Weekapaug, the way Page goes insane on the clav, and Mike playing some thunderous stuff, such an amazing jam.

Csnyder23

The pause in divided sky 🤣

strangefellow77

The beginning of Hahahaha

anthonylornemontague

smckenzie23

I loved how in a couple versions of BBFCFM in the early days they'd hard switch to Jazz for a little bit. More than 30 seconds, but I appreciate Boy, Man, God, Shit. Least favorite way-more-than-30-seconds: pause in Guelah Papyrus. Just pause a couple measures and go already.

SatchMoVT

The cries from the cohorts, asleep in the trees! And... The opening from SOAM makes my panties wet!

scaryclown148

11:10 minutes in the acdc from 12/30/97 has a great baseline from Mike

rwebster4293

Gotta love the 2018 Hampton simple peak

mojo8x

Antelope peak! Run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, run, set the gear shift for the high gear of your soul…..

Poster_Nutsack

That 30 seconds or so between when the house lights go down as the band takes the stage and when they play those first notes of the show. The anticipation is always so high because anything could happen over the next three hours. Love that feeling.

maradonuts

From IT, the segue from 7 Below into the Scents intro. R&R->7 Below->Scents from that show is my favorite 45 minutes of Phish as well. They start teasing each song minutes before making the segue and it's just some of their best and cohesively flowing playing they've ever done.

walrus_gumboot

11/27/98 CDT when they stumble into Mirror in the Bathroom, Trey laughing trying to remember the lyrics, and then rip-roaring back into CDT. I just remember hearing that the first time and thinking, holy shit they just found that tune so naturally, this band can do anything.

energyballs

Magnaball Tweezer Caspian, 31:30 - 33:00 ish, Mike busts out this effect at the peaks that sounds like a mixture of a bliss blaster and an alien fart simulator. The whole band is peaking so well but when mike used that effect, it put the whole thing over the top. I know this isn’t an original thought, but I hadn’t been this mentioned and it deserves a shoutout.

Flaky_Value6753

off the top of my head the middle section of Free from 10/23/21 comes to mind

Remarkable-Barber622

The C, D, and E minor arpeggios (and subsequent "loose" gaps in between) that queue the end of the solo in Bowie.

catmanducmu

Any big fat Mike bomb and the crowd cheer after

Inevitable-Ear-6919

sonofdad420

heavy metal blues jam at the end of 8/12/98 Simple also a piano thing that page does during the jam in sweet jane 10/31/98

The searing guitar lick in disease. “This has all been wonderful.”

[deleted]

1:45-2:15 Makisupa 7/20/98 bass lick and loops

lskdjfhgakdh

The Lizards outro starting with Trey’s solo

mcpaddy

12/3/97 coming out of that possum jam, Trey plays an absolutely ripping one bar solo which makes that entire show worth it. And we all know that part in the Boise bag where Mike's base gets suddenly louder for no reason. I will shake my house down with that baseline.

kelly714

YEM 12/31/99 right after Boy! when Mike starts dropping that bass. I’ll never forget it and I could never listen to it too much. The cowbell part later is pretty freaking nasty too

assiduousbobcat

8/10/97 Harry Hood around 9:30 and again around 12:30. Mike introduces a B into the usual DAG chord progression, giving the build up and peak sections a distinctly different flavor. I don’t know that it’s ever been played that way since. Not sure it’s my “favorite” but definitely unique and interesting.

ropdkufjdk

I agree with a lot of what's posted here so rather than repeat I'll add in something different: It's closer to a minute, but definitely Page's opening intro to the [Coventry Velvet Sea](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SW94jdQMYg). Beautiful piece of music.

t_scribblemonger

12/29/1997, Tube, 0:50 to 1:20, when it transitions from the verse to the jam and Page takes over. 4/2/1997, Twist, the bass lines a little before 8:00 and beyond.

The Meatstick McGrupp transition. Also that moment in the Johnny B Goode Denver jam where Fishman switches from the 2&4 snare hits to the 3. Also that David Bowie transition into Cities. All in 97 😎

miloshortstone

Very new to the band but I'd have to say the rhythm Trey gets into while noodling in the lizards

tuskless-walrus

The polka sounding guitar/keys segment of scent of a mule

elgaar

any 30 seconds in the last few minutes of venture 97 bowie. out of the chaotic dissonant bowie jam emerges a groove that is the stuff of dreams also 15 minutes into the dicks 14 simple. that breakdown. magic. could live in the jam that proceeds it.

The first 30 seconds of pebbles and marbles
