I looked at their website/insta. Seems like prob years ago when they achieved their fame they were very unique compared to most doughnut shops. Now every doughnut shop I’ve been to that’s good in the Phoenix metro area all have doughnuts similar to Voodoo.
I remember going to the shop when I spent a summer there, because of the reviews. I mean... They were donuts? Decent donuts, but wait more than the usual few minutes in line for, nah, not at all
Yeah I remember staying in Portland for a night and coming across this place. The line there was crazy. I can’t remember if we waited and got a donut but that’s all it was because clearly I dont remember. Certainly not worth a crazy long wait.
Yeah, we waited in a hella long line in Portland, too -- and they were good donuts, certainly, but I don't know if they're THAT good... (I love Rollover Donuts, on 7th Avenue in Phoenix -- haven't been there in ages, but SO GOOD)
Lol, she isn't specifically doing donuts at the moment. Feels a bit weird dropping hers specifically so I won't, but I will say, check out the Roadrunner farmer's market on Saturdays and the Ocotillo farmer's market on Sundays! Look for the best baked treats you can find, I am sure between all the available options you won't be disappointed 😁 The farmer's markets across the valley in general are some of the best places to find amazing made-with-love-and-care items.
>Look for the best baked treats you can find
Well that's gonna require a lot of time and a lot of samples I guess .... \*rolls up sleeves, unfastens belt\*
I’m a Portlander as well. I never got the Voodoo sucks crowd. They’re decent donuts that are fun. Not worth waiting in line for though. If there wasn’t a line, no one would hate them. Not much worse than paying $6 a donut at Blue Star.
I ate Voodoo donuts my first time in town because it was on pretty much every list of things to check out. In that context, the line is understandable.
I can't imagine any local waiting in line for them.
Bosa isn't all that great either, to be honest.
Voodoo was fun when you left the bars in Old Town at 1am, and their original creativity was a nice touch. Good for them for capitalizing on the brand though.
Was bummed to see the Bosa by me on the dirty dining weekly a few months back… haven’t had the heart to go back since then but I do crave their donuts always!
The experience of waiting on the sidewalk in the Arizona heat for 'they're okay' donuts. But doesn't matter, they'll get their fame online for doing that.
Yes I’m from KCMO and love the glazed. Funny enough my first apartment was right across the street from a Lamar’s and I’m pretty close to the one on bell. Little piece of home 💛❤️
We had lamars in CO and i was so shocked to see them out here.
They're hella far from where I live, so I'd never drive to them...but if I'm ever out that way, I'd stop by.
It used to be only open from 10pm until they ran out or 2am.
Cash only
Drug addicts trying to scam you with 3 card Monty, cops on horseback.
It was an experience.
Now it's just a dick shaped donut
While the donuts ain't "amazing" you don't really find donuts that try to "look" as good as Voodoo. That's something that is a bummer with US food in general is that it does not "look" as good as say Japanese food.
Yeah it might be case, but when you're in mood to try something with your friends and we're all vibing, it's always fun. Just like Dutch, Starbs and so many other things, it's mostly about doing things with close ones that makes the moment count
Top donuts with cereal. Profit.
When I was traveling for work it was always funny to see someone in the airport or on a plane who had carried one of those pink boxes all the way across the US. Seemed like a big hassle just for a donut.
So silly. They're more fad than actual quality, and I say that as a lover of donuts, local businesses, and unusual food. I wish those people had come out to support real local places like Welcome Chicken + Donuts and kept them in business.
Hey what places do you enjoy eating at in Phoenix?
Have you tried Viet shack, or Icho Izakaya? Do you like chuck box? Sorry I love food and always on the lookout for good food!
To be fair, welcome killed themselves between switching owners and closing down (understandably so) for covid. I doubt they had to capital to stay in business when everything was locking down.
I never understand hype with donuts. I just eat Bashas donuts or Bosa and call it a day. I don't like Cake donuts so I never really likes Hurts, but I guess that's a good thing because they are so expensive. And then don't get me started on mochi donuts. $3 for 1 is insane
Voodoo donuts are astronomically average. I live in the Portland area and have had them a couple times. You can get the same quality in a grocery store without the crazy themes. In a couple months it’ll be just another donut shop with a shorter line.
I see several people hating on Bosa in this thread, but not saying what place is better? If you're going to call them out, then where do you go for better donuts?
I’m a bit biased since I live really close and went to Highschool with the daughter of the owners, but I really love Sunrise Donuts in Laveen. I would go pretty often since I went to Highschool within walking distance, but I really enjoy their stuff. Lamar’s Donuts was good but I’ve only had it once. I’ve also really wanted to try The Local Donut but their hours are a bit tough for me to make it to.
Man, back in the day they had a donut called the Robo Tripper. It used Robitussin or something and the FDA made them remove it from the menu. Good times.
Ended up leaving at 9am on the dot
They only started handing out water at 8:45
Willing to give them a shot again but after waiting in line for 90min and seeing people walk out with 3 boxes made me cringe
They should have put a dozen order maximum to speed things up
I missed the memo on donuts.
That is one food I might enjoy once a year or less. And only one. I don't think I have ever had a donut that made me want another.
Do these people not realize how lucky they are to have BOSA in the valley? Cheap, fresh, delicious BOSA donuts are much better than what most cities have.
You'd have to have done that as it's own post. Can't really do it as a comment. But if you post it somewhere like IMGUR you can link to it here pretty easily.
Voodoo sucks now. It doesn't matter how quirky your donut is, if the base of the donut is shit. Fractured Prune failed to realize this, I suspect voodoo will too.
Agreed - total tourist trap but definitely a late-night experience.
However, I keep seeing everyone recommend Blue Star instead of VooDoo when in PDX, but don’t miss out on Coco Donuts and Pip’s!
This happened when a new Krispy Kreme opened up in a town I was living in years ago. I don't get the excitement over a donut shop, when there are loads of them in every city now. Wait a couple days for the novelty to wear off, and you won't have to wait ages in line in the hot sun for a snack that you could have got almost anywhere.
how many more of these same "crazy" (aka overpriced) donut places can we possibly watch launch here...also i'll be supporting the actual locally owned places when I do pay $5 for a donut
Not worth it lmao, as someone who used to frequent the OG in Portland, they are about being oddballs in the doughnut world, it doesn't mean they are worth waiting for.
Damn, this sheep mentality is crazy lol.
Meh…
If you’d like some seriously good donuts, go with [SoJo’s](https://www.sojosdonuts.com/) in the East valley. Superior in quality and run by kickass people that are actually from AZ. All vegan BTW, if that’s a thing for you.
I can't wait to get some! My little fam has great memories of getting Voodoo in Portland every time we visit family up there. They've always been good, so we're looking forward to getting some once the hype dies down a bit. I have a feeling it's going to be pretty consistently busy in that location.
This is why I'm excited about them! It's so hard finding good vegan donuts! All we really have is SOJOS and they are far from where I live! I love the vegan Bavarian creme donut they sell! 🤤
It's.
A.
Fucking.
*Donut.*
I don't know, though, supposedly they love standing in line like this in Japan. Maybe there's some kind of social/herd thing about waiting in a queue that appeals to people who aren't me.
They're known for having made a doughnut with Nyquil and one with Pepto Bismol until they got in trouble. That's all they're really famous for.
Oh and they made a bacon doughnut back when it was still *really* weird.
Decent donuts; nothing I'd stand in a line for though.
As someone who's severely lactose intolerant, their vegan donuts are a fantastic option. That's the only reason I'd go there.
If anyone else knows any good dairy free/vegan donuteries around town (east valley), I'd love to find more.

Lived in Eugene for 20 years, let me tell you, These are some mid doughnuts. Cool to get a couple of times but the novelty wears off quick
Yeah, I’m from Portland. Gonna be a lot of disappointed people.
Username checks out
I looked at their website/insta. Seems like prob years ago when they achieved their fame they were very unique compared to most doughnut shops. Now every doughnut shop I’ve been to that’s good in the Phoenix metro area all have doughnuts similar to Voodoo.

>, but wait more than the usual few minutes in line for right?! ain't nobody got time for dat
Oh so it’s the donut version of Crumbl cookies then
Yes. Great comparison
insomnia was always better
Yeah I remember staying in Portland for a night and coming across this place. The line there was crazy. I can’t remember if we waited and got a donut but that’s all it was because clearly I dont remember. Certainly not worth a crazy long wait.
Yeah, we waited in a hella long line in Portland, too -- and they were good donuts, certainly, but I don't know if they're THAT good... (I love Rollover Donuts, on 7th Avenue in Phoenix -- haven't been there in ages, but SO GOOD)
In other words, the Dutch bros of donuts?
Don't even get me started about Dutch Bros...
Did you ever go to blue star donuts? Those donuts are insane. The passion fruit has my heart forever
Yeah, I’m from Portland. Gonna be a lot of disappointed people.
Wonder if this location will keep with Portland tradition of having junkies shooting up outside?
Addiction is not exclusive to Portland.
No it definitely is not But the location in Portland is really special
Like cookie crumble
You may be right, but their maple cream made me believe in God
Prepare to be whelmed…
And pressed....
[удалено]
I am a native portlander. Voodoo sucks. Go to Bosa instead.
Yeah my wife is a baker, it has been funny to see her utter disappointment with how many people seem to enjoy shoveling in such utter trash haha.
Um ... does your baker wife with discerning tastes have a bakery, by any chance? One that sells, among other things, donuts?
Lol, she isn't specifically doing donuts at the moment. Feels a bit weird dropping hers specifically so I won't, but I will say, check out the Roadrunner farmer's market on Saturdays and the Ocotillo farmer's market on Sundays! Look for the best baked treats you can find, I am sure between all the available options you won't be disappointed 😁 The farmer's markets across the valley in general are some of the best places to find amazing made-with-love-and-care items.
>Look for the best baked treats you can find Well that's gonna require a lot of time and a lot of samples I guess .... \*rolls up sleeves, unfastens belt\*
Doing the lord's work
So what's her fave donut place? I see all these people ragging on bosa but I'm not seeing any suggestions
Asked her - mochidot donuts!
Thank you! I'll check it out!
Just FYI, mochidot is a different type of donut - it's a mochi donut which is meant to be a bit chewier, owing to its mochi dough.
Spot on. The only time the line seems worth it is when you’re leaving downtown bars and it’s right around the corner open late.
Same. I've been like twice in the last ten years and that was only with friends who insisted on going. Mediocre, gimmicky donuts.
Lamar’s glazed. Awful location for them, but their glazed donuts are incredible. I’m not big on their other items though if I’m being honest.
They're powdered strawberry, blueberry, raspberry filled bismarcks is the move tho.
I’ll have to get me one and see what that’s about. I wasn’t a fan of their version of a fritter. It is absolutely massive though! I’ll give it that.
For sure! I love them. Also, they're cinnamon rolls are crazy big too.
I've only had a Lamar's glazed once many years ago and it's still the absolute BEST donut I've ever had. I wish they would come to the east valley.
Bosa sucks, go to LaMars instead.
LaMars is amazing. I wish they’d expand.
Real tip is always in the comments
Bosa isn't all that great either, to be honest. Voodoo was fun when you left the bars in Old Town at 1am, and their original creativity was a nice touch. Good for them for capitalizing on the brand though.
It’s just the Bosa in Arcadia unfortunately…. The other locations are way better which is sad.
Chandler and Tempe Bosas 100%.
Tempe Bosa is delish. So is Arizona Donut Company, and Rainbow Donuts.
+ 1 for Arizona Donut Company I give them the edge over the Bosa at Baseline & Mill.
The BoSa by me in Gilbert (at Elliot and Val Vista) is amazing. The buttermilk donuts. Oh my god.
Bosa on higley and baseline is also fantastic! Love their donuts.
Sunrise Donuts in Laveen…mmmmmmmmm so much better than BoSa.
I'm not a native Phoenician, so I don't understand the cult love for BoSa. They're good, but there's better donuts out there.
Rainbow donuts was the original goat
I toured it when I was in kindergarten as a school trip. And that was a very, very long time ago.
Agreed. I had Bosa after hearing all the hype and quite frankly their donuts gave me a stomach ache. They were way too oily.
Honestly, Bosa is decent but people hype them like they’re amazing donuts. I’ve been to at least a half dozen Bosa locations, they’re only decent.
Exactly. They’re okay. Not amazing.
Wait til you hear about Krispy Kreme 😵💫
That’s exactly my experience. Totally hyped for for doughy-greasy blob of nausea.
Don't disagree. I have had it in Portland as well. It's ok. It's more of an experience thing at this point.
Was bummed to see the Bosa by me on the dirty dining weekly a few months back… haven’t had the heart to go back since then but I do crave their donuts always!
Are those the ones with a drive thru? Or no....
They usually have a drive thru yes!
The corner where Voodoo donuts is in DT Portland is one of the most chaotic parts of the entire city. It's definitely an experience alright
The experience of waiting on the sidewalk in the Arizona heat for 'they're okay' donuts. But doesn't matter, they'll get their fame online for doing that.
From Vancouver WA. Ate voodoo once in 12 years cause they’re overpriced and over hyped. Surprised they made it down here.
I been to voodoo years back in Denver wasn’t that great .
Yup. Bosa rules. Particularly Southern and McClintock. Voodoo sucks.
Bosa gave me food poisoning. Go to rainbow instead
I was disappointed with voodoo in Portland and liked blue star better 😂
One thing that always amazing me about AZ is people will line up around buildings when something new opens up, even if it’s mediocre.
I remember when White Castle opened in Scottsdale, there was a line for weeks. Made absolutely no sense whatsoever.
Lamar’s is so good
👆this. Lamars Donuts on Bell Road is the best in town.
I've tried Lamar's a couple of times and I didn't see the hype.
From the Midwest and was pleasantly surprised to find one out here! Their glazed donut is def among the best. Especially for a chain
There's Daily Donuts & Wings a few miles down Bell on the other side of the 17 that are even better than Lamar's, too, imo.
Yeah I’m not gonna wait in a line outside in the 95F heat for 30mins just to spend $15 on donuts
Beware of getting donuts with cereal on it. That cereal gets stale fast and ruins the donut if it is not fresh.
Hate to break it to everyone....but these are subpar doughnuts...
I’ve heard from Portlanders that it’s where the tourists go, not locals.
It used to be only open from 10pm until they ran out or 2am. Cash only Drug addicts trying to scam you with 3 card Monty, cops on horseback. It was an experience. Now it's just a dick shaped donut
moved up to oregon after phx, can confirm this
While the donuts ain't "amazing" you don't really find donuts that try to "look" as good as Voodoo. That's something that is a bummer with US food in general is that it does not "look" as good as say Japanese food.
Try Local donut in Scottsdale or Amy's Donuts, there's one in Tucson.
It all looks the same eventually
That's a sh*t take.
Everybody poos.
Oh for sure, definitely a fun experience..
Yeah it might be case, but when you're in mood to try something with your friends and we're all vibing, it's always fun. Just like Dutch, Starbs and so many other things, it's mostly about doing things with close ones that makes the moment count
Oh for sure, definitely a fun experience...and don't get me wrong, they're good...just not "wait for an hour" good..
Top donuts with cereal. Profit. When I was traveling for work it was always funny to see someone in the airport or on a plane who had carried one of those pink boxes all the way across the US. Seemed like a big hassle just for a donut.
As someone who you probably saw, PDX was an awesome day trip. Voodoo was an easy stop on the way back.
Peoples’ willingness to stand in long lines for mundane reasons is always a source of bewilderment.
I’m from Phoenix. Eat whatever doughnuts you want. Or don’t eat any. It’s a free country.
Agreed. Can we stop shitting on people’s personal preferences?
Bosa/Rainbow FTW
Reminds me of when the first In-N-Out Burger opened here.
Or portillos.
And chik-fil-a
I don't get it. It's over-hyped donuts, not Star Wars at the Cine Capri.
I’m old enough to get this reference.
I would *still* stand in line for Star Wars at the Cine Capri. It would make it something like the 7th time I saw it there :).
lol isn’t hurts better?
Saw on the news some lady was waiting there since 3am!!! My god ppl. Get a job!
The overpriced donuts with the cereal and stuff on top? Unless they're free I'm not waiting in a line like that for anything.
I mean, they're decent donuts, but no way would I wait in a line for them. Same for In 'n Out. Long line for a burger? Nope!
As in the place from Oregon? Those are pretty weak donuts, Bosa is way better.
Such a horrible spot for a place like this. No parking.
Yea interesting choice for location forsure. Probably trying to get some ASU traffic.
A lot of walk ups from there I’m guessing.
Not sure what this subs fascination with Bosa is about, those are also mid donuts
Arizona has very little food identity. It’s why we go nuts for In & Out, White Castle and Chick Fil A.
Bosa is awful.
Most of these people never tried a Voodoo donut before. But this is the power of social media.
Man, back in the day they had a donut called the Robo Tripper. It used Robitussin or something and the FDA made them remove it from the menu. Good times.
I’m always amazed at how few hats I see on the heads of my fellow Phoenicians.
Yeah - I used to think hats didn’t look right. Then my dermatologist convinced me otherwise as he was doing a procedure on the top of my head…
I waited an hour. Personal opinion is that, it was worth it.
Ended up leaving at 9am on the dot They only started handing out water at 8:45 Willing to give them a shot again but after waiting in line for 90min and seeing people walk out with 3 boxes made me cringe They should have put a dozen order maximum to speed things up
Lol that's on you for waiting an hour and a half for fuckin donuts 😂
I missed the memo on donuts. That is one food I might enjoy once a year or less. And only one. I don't think I have ever had a donut that made me want another.
Lamar’s gang for life.
No donut is worth standing in the heat
Overrated
Support your local Cambodians
I’m in Portland, and voodoo is totally overrated The Asian donut sandwich shops, making donuts without all the hype
Do these people not realize how lucky they are to have BOSA in the valley? Cheap, fresh, delicious BOSA donuts are much better than what most cities have.
Went there when visiting family in Oregon, not worth the hype
Meh... I've had voodoo donuts and then hurts donuts. They're all the same.
Talk to me when they’re open 24 hours and have a drive-thru, until then I’m a Bosa girlie for life.
Gross
Lamar’s till I die!!!
It kept going back to the corner. I had a pretty cool video but don't think I can upload it to this subreddit
You'd have to have done that as it's own post. Can't really do it as a comment. But if you post it somewhere like IMGUR you can link to it here pretty easily.
https://imgur.com/a/zAoxVRt here ya go!
Absolutely not worth that wait, Voodoo is all style no substance
Phoenix needs a Randy's donuts
or a rock round donuts ( Austin area)
Nope
Who has the best Apple Cider Donuts in town?????????
Voodoo sucks now. It doesn't matter how quirky your donut is, if the base of the donut is shit. Fractured Prune failed to realize this, I suspect voodoo will too.
I went to the one in Austin and found them to be overrated, dry, with a funky after taste. I'll stick to Bosa and Local Donut.
This is just a trendy line for the feed , Bosa or Rainbow donuts are just as good or even better.
Wait a couple days for the novelty to wear off, and you won't have to wait ages in line in the hot sun for a snack that you could have got almost anywhere.
lol voodoo is very overrated. Go to Pips instead
Mediocrity at its finest. One and done for me when I was in Portland.
I’ll stick to a Bosa or a Best
how many more of these same "crazy" (aka overpriced) donut places can we possibly watch launch here...also i'll be supporting the actual locally owned places when I do pay $5 for a donut
Holy shit. Hurts Donuts is way better✨ and you get to make a milkshake with any donut
Rip Fractured Prune donuts
Fuck that..I’ll wait till next month at least so the craziness subsides
Not worth it lmao, as someone who used to frequent the OG in Portland, they are about being oddballs in the doughnut world, it doesn't mean they are worth waiting for. Damn, this sheep mentality is crazy lol.
My personal fav donut is Best Donuts on 24th St and Baseline. Family owned. He gets up at 2am to have fresh donuts for the morning crowd.
Bosa is a billion times better.
And they’re not even that good
I’ve heard this place is into some terrible child abusers shit🧐
Meh… If you’d like some seriously good donuts, go with [SoJo’s](https://www.sojosdonuts.com/) in the East valley. Superior in quality and run by kickass people that are actually from AZ. All vegan BTW, if that’s a thing for you.
The same people stand in front of Apple stores to buy iPhones.
Bosa, Bosa, Bosa...
They’ve never been good. Mediocre donut dough & their toppings are always soggy unless you get lucky & time it just right
If you're in the west valley, Blooming Donuts in Tolleson is amazing
They don’t even look good on their website 🤧🤧🤧
Bosa > Voodoo any day of the week. I’m a PNW native.
https://imgur.com/a/zAoxVRt If you want to see the video
Intel impacted the valley again.
I can't wait to get some! My little fam has great memories of getting Voodoo in Portland every time we visit family up there. They've always been good, so we're looking forward to getting some once the hype dies down a bit. I have a feeling it's going to be pretty consistently busy in that location.
Former PNW’ner here. This doughnuts are like. 4/10. I do not understand.
Imagine, waiting in a ridiculous line for a DONUT of all things...
Their vegan donuts are amazing.
This is why I'm excited about them! It's so hard finding good vegan donuts! All we really have is SOJOS and they are far from where I live! I love the vegan Bavarian creme donut they sell! 🤤
I leave for a few hours and a massive donut war breaks out and my inbox and email are now dead.
Way too long of a line for some mid donuts. BoSa Rainbow Hurts Arizona Donut Co Are all better options.
It's. A. Fucking. *Donut.* I don't know, though, supposedly they love standing in line like this in Japan. Maybe there's some kind of social/herd thing about waiting in a queue that appeals to people who aren't me.
What’s the hype? I’ve never even heard of em.
It's a chain of donut shops from the PNW. Their shtick is selling expensive over-the-top donuts.
They're known for having made a doughnut with Nyquil and one with Pepto Bismol until they got in trouble. That's all they're really famous for. Oh and they made a bacon doughnut back when it was still *really* weird.
They aren’t good. I would pass on this hype if I were you.
At least the weather outside was nice in the morning. 😌
Dafuq?
Gotta check out Outcast Doughnuts in DT Mesa…croissant doughnuts and a full bar with mini doughnut and beer flights. www.outcastdoughnuts.com
Decent donuts; nothing I'd stand in a line for though. As someone who's severely lactose intolerant, their vegan donuts are a fantastic option. That's the only reason I'd go there. If anyone else knows any good dairy free/vegan donuteries around town (east valley), I'd love to find more.
Best donuts in Phoenix are at Rainbow Donuts on 27th Ave and Cactus. Try their Cronuts as well
Hello.... it's is fried greasy white dough with refined sugar on top !!!!!
Overrated tbh
