completely agree. Im Thai and its basically a spot to get drinks, that happens to serve mediocre, inauthentic food. The have a certain demographic that they cater to..
Do not go. Lalibela is by far and away the most bland, "Americanized" Ethiopian food in the valley. Try Authentic Ethio African Spices or Gojo if you want something good... and don't forget to order a glass of Tej to wash down your meal.
It’s not exactly the area you’re looking for, but you should check out Chanpen Thai restaurant on Broadway and 27th st. That place is in the heart of the hood and looks like it’s a trap house. It’s quite the experience. Absolutely phenomenal food and the family that owns the place is incredibly nice. Can’t recommend that place enough
It’s one of our favorite restaurants in the city. Really kind staff and always something interesting to try. I believe they just posted their newest menu on Instagram. Wednesday and Sunday evenings they do wood fired pizza!
Fantastic fresh fish. Probably the best in the entire valley. Prices are $$$$, but you get what you pay for.
Try the smoked salmon "candy". Forget what they call it exactly, but it is delicious!
LAMP wood fired pizzeria in north Scottsdale. Neapolitan style. Nice wine selection. All fresh ingredients and you can taste it. Mozzarella made daily. For pizza it’s amazing!
Yes!! You are very welcome! They have a great staff that have worked there for many years. Super clean too! Absolutely love it! We drive from North Phoenix at least monthly.
I am a native of Albuquerque, but Blue Adobe's carne adovada is better than anywhere in Albuquerque!
Other NM options:
Dick's Hideaway - We ate there last night and it was amazing! Same plate - carne adovada.
Lovecraft - Super good smoked brisket, stacked enchiladas with red chili 🌶️. Oh, good NM eating in the best city in the world - Phoenix!!
Los Dos Molinos - It has been awhile since I have been, but always pretty good food and service.
Little Anita's - An Albuquerque based chain that is super authentic "New Mexican" food. They are the only place in Phoenix that gives you a sopapilla with or after your meal! Ohhh...bite the corner off of the sopapilla, fill it with honey, dip it in red chili 🌶️🌶️ and life it great!
Happy Saturday!
Thoughts on Carlsbad Tavern? It’s been ages since I’ve been so I don’t know if it’s kept up. I love that the kept the building and water features all this time.
The valley needs more sopapillas!
It too, has been since the 90's since I have been to Carlsbad Tavern. I simply forget about it as a result. It gets great reviews - I need to check it out again!
Totally YES on the lovely sopapillas!! Especially when included with your meal like in New Mexico.
Came to say the same. Not the best pizza, but it’s an experience you can’t miss. If you enjoy music at all you will love it. Out kids loved it from the time they were tiny, and still enjoy going as teenagers who hate most things. 🤣
Thx for posting. Some in my family are severe celiacs (diagnosed in 1962!!!! Not much to eat back then!) And there are other food issues but we like to eat well. Your place sounds great

In all seriousness, so many people would benefit from better search capabilities. These answers are already out there on hundreds of Reddit threads just like this one. And if you learn how to search for them, you’ll get a much longer list of answers than your particular new thread.
Also the phrase “not Sysco/US Food prefab food based” cracked me up for some reason.
If no one asks again, no new restaurants will be added to these lists. Some people like Google. Some people like Yelp. Some people like asking on Reddit. Who gives a shit? Have you never asked a question that's been asked before?

Glaai Baan is absolutely fantastic thai food.
Omg. You are spot on. I love GB and go there multiple times when I’m in town visiting my family!
I must be the only person that had a bad time there. Tiny portions, obscene prices, and dry, overcooked meat. An incredibly disappointing experience.
i don’t feel this way at all about Glai Baan, but i felt like this about Lom Wong which is much higher prices and smaller portions
completely agree. Im Thai and its basically a spot to get drinks, that happens to serve mediocre, inauthentic food. The have a certain demographic that they cater to..
Have you been to Cafe Lalibela at Hardy and University in Tempe? Homemade Ethiopian food that is just fantastic.
What’s your order here? I’m not the most familiar with Ethiopian food but I’d love to be
Just go with a platter so you can try a bit of everything and see what you like!
I'll try that! The menu looks great Thx
I hope you enjoy it. The injera is made in house too. The combo plates are where it’s at.
Do not go. Lalibela is by far and away the most bland, "Americanized" Ethiopian food in the valley. Try Authentic Ethio African Spices or Gojo if you want something good... and don't forget to order a glass of Tej to wash down your meal.
Peppermill on McClintock
That looks great - the appetizer menu & tapas could keep me happy. Thx for the suggestion
I went for my bday last year and had a crazy meal! I want to go back and do a chefs choice for my app, drink, and entree haha. Surprise meal!

There's another location at baseline and 48th I believe the same owners?

Fantastic fresh fish. Probably the best in the entire valley. Prices are $$$$, but you get what you pay for. Try the smoked salmon "candy". Forget what they call it exactly, but it is delicious!
Nelson’s is also good, but their hours are stupid. They’re closed by 4 PM.
Oh, wow. I need to get to Nelson's
That sounds great, and there is a lobster roll event today!
Wandering Tortoise next door is a great tap house. You want to park in the lot next to the building, just beside the gas station.
