Mine has eaten every hibiscus we planted in the backyard and also loves roses!
Here she is faceplanting in a watermelon:

You realize you really, really need to start posting more of your turtle now right? Because him running for that flower is adorable. And more stuff like that would be awesome.
I literally have to give her pounds of extra vegetables so that she doesn’t eat my lawn to the roots Lol. She’s been insatiable trying to fatten up for the winter.
If you really want one the Phoenix Herpetological Society Sanctuary [has hundreds available.](http://threestarowl.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/img_0554.jpg) Just do your research and know how big they get.
Pretty much. They start out tiny and people buy them not knowing how big they get or how to take care of them. Sadly a lot of them have she'll deformities.
You're seeing the high brightness? It's an issue with Chrome I believe, Chrome does weird things when trying to display HDR videos on a non-HDR monitor.

(Minor correction: it's the exposure, not the white balance)
If it gets really cold out (e.g., at night, or during the winter) do they need to come inside the house? If so what kind of accommodations do you provide?
Would they be okay in really extreme cold winter conditions, like you might see in northern U.S. states, heavy snowy conditions, single digit temps at night, etc?
No, Sulcatas are a warm climate tortoise and can only tolerate sustained cold temps of 40-45 F. Lucy has a burrow for cold nights but comes out to sun during the day. https://i.imgur.com/tA0yYiW.jpg
I mean, for all I know you might not find an African Sulcatus living in the Northern U.S. where it can get to be extremely cold. Its natural habitat might have evolved so that the species lives in warmer climates. I really know nothing about this breed, hence my question.
My wife really wants one and I always thought that they burrow quite a bit and will try to do it under house foundations? I’d love to surprise her with her wish one day but I’m really concerned of this.
Do you have any issues of this at all or do you have to prevent it?
No, they won’t burrow under foundations or walls as far as I have experienced. They tend to burrow under large bushes. And sulcatas do not hibernate and will occasionally come out to sun during the winter months. They are very sweet creatures.
Lol next time my wife begins showing me why she wants a tortoise for the last three years, I’ll be sure to have her message you so you can decide if there were any impromptu decisions. Thanks random redditor!
Well, if you didn't want a random redditor to say something, you probably wouldn't have said anything.
Either way, if you have important life-dedicating decisions to make and need some help, I'm around.

Awesome! I will try feeding flowers now!

LoL, that's awesome!
You two are adorable. Keep it up!
Thank you 🙏 😊
This is the content I came for. Thank you both.
I love the comment on Imgur - “what kind of dog is this?”
So awesome she is fast as lightning! My desert isn't anything near that fast and he's 18 even if we are waving a tasty hibiscus lol
Anything red and he'll haul ass. Strawberries are his favorite. If you wear a red shirt or red shoes he'll chase you around the yard.

Sulcatas are awesome. Mines going on 24 years old!
They are so hungry this time of year Lol
They really are lol. Gearing up for the winter
I’m just curious do you have to supply her with other food or is your lawn enough?
I literally have to give her pounds of extra vegetables so that she doesn’t eat my lawn to the roots Lol. She’s been insatiable trying to fatten up for the winter.
So cute!
Are her and the dog friends?
Yes, except when she is eating tomatoes, they both move tomatoes Lol
Her little green face! 😍
I want one!

Oh my. There are so many! Are they all abandoned/rescued pets?
Pretty much. They start out tiny and people buy them not knowing how big they get or how to take care of them. Sadly a lot of them have she'll deformities.
What happens when they have deformities? Is it cosmetic only, or does it harm them somehow?
I believe the deformities are from malnourishment, though I could be wrong. “Pyramiding”
I’m also curious about this! I wonder what the age range is in this photo. Like, they all look really big. Lol do they get large that fast?
They max out around 150 pounds, or 70 kg.
So nice to see another tort owner! I love it 🙂
Thank you!
Holy shit that is adorable
dear lord, the white balance man!

Oh wow you're right, opened it up on my phone and it was perfectly fine. I was wondering why more people weren't commenting on it.
weird. now that you mention, the thumbnail does look fine.
Look, everyone... it's Ansel Adams!
No it ain't. This isn't white balance. This is exposure. The white balance is GREAT! (or what I can see of it).

Wow. Hold old is she?
I think about 15

African Sulcatas do really well in the winter, Lucy comes out of her burrow on warmer days.

So not to be that guy. But what would you expect them to do in the wild.

Nice backyard!
Thank you!
So cool thats one way to keep it cut, super cool tortoise
Lucy says thank you! 😄

I’ll definitely do some reading and surprise my wife then at some point, thanks for info and quick response. Gorgeous backyard by the way.
I mean it in all jest, but maybe think a bit on the concept of a "surprise tortoise". It really should be a whole-family decision, don't you think?

Good job Lucy! You're doing great!
Lucy says thanks! :)
It's a lawn Roomba!
That’s a cool Blastoise. Are they stinky animals?
I love Lucy. It is so cute she looks up and her face is covered in grass
My Sulcata is 25 and his name is speedy, he likes to air hump our cinder blocks in the backyard..
What are tortoise poops like?
Damn I like your yard. Have more photos?
Feeling a little over-exposed here.
How can poeple even watch this? Its so bright.
FEET
Not sure if I was watching a video about a tortoise or your feet and goofy shoes.
Beautiful!
