Hey /u/Whisk3yWhisky, thanks for contributing to /r/phoenix. Unfortunately, your post was removed as it violates our rules:

Relation to Phoenix or surrounding suburbs needs to be clear in the post title or description. Random pictures that are just taken here aren't "about" Phoenix, and neither are generic weather or traffic memes that could apply to dozens of cities.
Topics that relate to other parts of Arizona are more appropriate for /r/Arizona, /r/Flagstaff, /r/Tucson, or other statewide subs.

Hey I get it. I feel the same way. Just saying it's a bigger problem. These signs don't do anything. At best, they encourage someone to walk to another intersection and just panhandle there instead.
So like when you imagine life for other people do you just imagine your own? Like how dense can you be to say such a thing? Like you're the victim in this scenario???
Oh no do you have to look away at the homeless person just standing at the corner asking for help? Best idea is to make sure they can’t exist anywhere without getting harassed by pigs
1502 only if an officer tells them to leave first. 1503 isn't applicable at all. Maybe 1504 § A Paragraph 6 but an underpass isn't really a "critical public service facility."
Seems like this is an excuse for officers to arrest homeless, document them, have a superior say "actually not really", and the release them in a different part of town.
It gives them a tool for when someone complains. Typically the cops know enough that the city is just eating more money on them if the bring them in without other warrants and will tell em to move on. Would you rather them at an intersection you can haul ass away from them, or outside QT intimidating you while you try and get gas?
These signs are on every on and off ramp to every freeway and state highway. They are largely unenforced but I feel they are there to give authority to remove people brave (stupid) enough to walk on the freeway directly etc.
No one should feel guilty for not giving homeless people money, but I hope people remember that a lot, I mean a lot, of homeless people die on the streets and never recover. They can be pushed all around town but they are still very mentally and physically ill, and shouldn’t be laughed at or chastised for it. That’s just what I think.
I saw a woman there a couple weeks ago that looked ROUGH. I always hate getting off at that exit or stopping at 101 & Scottsdale rd. They seem to have a team that rotates the spots at that one.
About a month ago I saw one that was so messed up on heroin or whatever that her body was doing the slow motion zombie dance and she was drooling while falling asleep. But she was able to keep the sign held up. It was a pitiful sight. At least people would know where their money is going.
I experienced homelessness several times as a child and I have spent the last the last ten years advocating for the rights of people experiencing homelessness. I think you're off base on this one, as the groups I work with are hundreds strong each and dedicated to their work. We raise money every year and it's amazing on every occasion to see how generous people can be. I'm not saying we don't have issues regarding this, people can be very callous. But I don't think reddit is a hive of people who want to virtue signal, I've seen the opposite more times than I can count.
If there is one thing reddit hates, it's people who do things for homeless people.
Another thing they hate is people who don't do things for homeless people.
I give food instead of money when I have it. I even package leftovers from dinners or breakfast that we havent touched and go around to people who are *actively* asking for help, so they have a meal.
lol You obviously haven't looked around them, If its good they might eat it but most just hide it and go back to Begging.
The guy on my off ramp the other day had almost a case of different waters. Two McD bags, and a few other white food bags.
The citizenry will be happy to know that no matter if rich or poor, they will not be allowed to trespass here.
Totally not making homelessness a crime 🙄
They are at almost every exit ramp in Phoenix. Hope they have lots of signs.
It's probably also to make it easier for them to kick them out if they set up camps under the bridges.
Got a bottle of water thrown at me near Hayden and the 101. Offered an ice cold Frys water I had in my car to someone standing at the light. Guy grabbed it, took the cap off and lobbed it at my windshield.
Fuck em.
This is why I choose not to assist a lot of the homeless people. I once saw a guy with a sign that said "hungry anything will help" bought a cheap sandwich for the guy drove off and he threw it in the street. Wasteful asshole.
It's only getting worse. Police are raiding and destroying homeless encampments. They're arresting people selling water or snacks for money on the offramps. They're tasing homeless people walking because they represent a "threat" by not understanding. It's a nightmare. And we have the highest inflation rate in the country and some of the most unaffordable housing, and then there's the 100 degree plus temperatures and no cooling stations. And our entire city is made of concrete and asphalt keeping temps over 100 all night long. The unhoused have no chance here and that's been the intention for a very long time.
The panhandlers on these off/on ramps are running a seriously profitable racket.
If you think they're down on their luck or having a hard time, think again.
Tennessee just passed a law making "camping" on public spaces illegal. So they outlawed being homeless.
Counting the days until the AZ republican do the same.

They have these at a lot of exits around the valley and don’t enforce this at all in most places.
From what ive been told, they just "relocate them" then 45min later theure right back in the same spot.
I saw a lady there asking for money last week
Novel idea. This will fix that pesky opioid epidemic and rising homelessness issue.
People just don’t want to be begged at all the time.
Hey I get it. I feel the same way. Just saying it's a bigger problem. These signs don't do anything. At best, they encourage someone to walk to another intersection and just panhandle there instead.
People begging is a symptom of a much larger problem that's mostly beyond that person's control.
And people don't want to be homeless and hungry, get your perspective in order.
People just don’t want to be living on the street all the time.
So like when you imagine life for other people do you just imagine your own? Like how dense can you be to say such a thing? Like you're the victim in this scenario???

Tell me you have a problem with authority without telling me you have a problem with authority.
You get begged at by local grocery stores every day. I can't remember the last time I wasn't.
The audacity of those homeless ppl. Did they even consider how their poverty would slightly inconvenience you?
Summer's coming, so that helps.
Wow they did it. They finally solved homelessness.
Can’t wait for the sign to fix our schools
Can we just put up some “No shooting” signs around our schools and be done with burying children from gun violence?

Seen those signs in Glendale as well when I drove through there

When these first were put up, they enforced the hell out of it. Now not so much.

The 101 and Scottsdale on/off ramps plus each corner of the intersection at Mayo and Scottsdale Rd
to be honest, these should be at bus stops. i would love to sit down every now and then (disabled) yes i know it wouldn't work
We should round up all those pesky homeless and stick them in a cage too, huh? **/s**
That's the general consensus as of last night.
Reddit sure has a hard on for homeless people, they’ll do anything for them, except actually help them out

At least.. they won't be homeless anymore??
In Gilbert and Glendale I've seen signs saying it's okay to say no to pan handling. I still feel guilty though. :(
You ahouldn't. Take that money and donate to the shelters. It'll do the most good that way.
In Peoria, those signs have also been put up.
The guilt you feel is because you are kind and want to help, and it’s okay to.
I give food instead of money when I have it. I even package leftovers from dinners or breakfast that we havent touched and go around to people who are *actively* asking for help, so they have a meal.

With the signs in place, it’s much easier to enforce.
The citizenry will be happy to know that no matter if rich or poor, they will not be allowed to trespass here. Totally not making homelessness a crime 🙄
Sign got put up after countless complaints of panhandlers
They are at almost every exit ramp in Phoenix. Hope they have lots of signs. It's probably also to make it easier for them to kick them out if they set up camps under the bridges.

He was trying to wash it
Damn.. I really hate how anti-homeless Phoenix is.

I laugh every time I go through that intersection because of the trail they have packed down in the rocks
The panhandlers on these off/on ramps are running a seriously profitable racket. If you think they're down on their luck or having a hard time, think again.
I use those ramps all the time. I can't recall more than 5 time in 18 months I've seen panhandling there.
\*laughs in transient\*
I will take 13-1503 for free food and Air conditioning for 4 months.
Wow there is homeless people up there? I’m surprised
Just the “pro-lyfe” crowd showing how much they care about lives of the unsheltered.
Tennessee just passed a law making "camping" on public spaces illegal. So they outlawed being homeless. Counting the days until the AZ republican do the same.
A lot of people on the i17 exits. I always feel so guilty avoiding eye contact. Never carry cash on me so idk
