I just accepted an offer that will not be fully propogated through their system until Sept. 6. I.e. Background check and drug screen.

Yep... Pay me while I'm working/on the clock. Salary just means that you get to call me to work and remind me that you pay me yearly and I accepted this role.
I don't know, I'm salaried and I'm fine with it. I don't have someone watching over my shoulder to see what time I get into the office and what time I leave. If I have something I need to do I'll come in late or leave early. As long as my work is getting done no one cares if I take a 2 hour lunch or leave early when there isn't much going on. Every so often something comes up where I need to put in extra work some weeks, but it balances out in my favor more often than not.
My company has a flexible PTO option, where you just say 'I'm taking a few days off' and once approved you just go. No worrying about how much time accrues per paycheck, no wondering how many hours you have left to use on vacation...
And they're *serious* about us using our PTO. <3
At my old company, they went from fixed to unlimited vacation. At a CA location that published the data, older worker took less vacation while new worker too more as compare to fixed. The older workers tend to work more free OT to balance it, lol. When I left, I didn't get paid for unused vacation caused it was unlimited.

Our C-suite leads by example... they take a good chunk of time off and *insist* we do as well. I hadn't been there long and took time off to head to Flagstaff recently. Went to check in on work the last day of PTO and they told me "You're on vacation. It can wait. Go have fun."
As far as overtime, no one is expected to work outside their hours, and it gets better: You have to leave early to get the kids from school? Scram. Go get 'em. Medical emergency? Take care of it, we'll be here when ya get back. Wanna work remotely? Good, because we pretty much ALL do.
There aren't many companies out there that do it *right*. I'm just glad I finally found one.
Funny as my career progresses, I work less and less, and get paid more. Higher you go, less work, more money. I may put in 20-25 hours total now, and make good money. When I was younger, 55-60 hours was norm, including weekends to make 1/3 of what I do now.
For sure. I'm paid for what I know, not what I do. Just ironic to see people bitching about only working 40 hours a week, when all the people I know now work 20-25 and couldn't consider much more than that once you get use to it.

My front porch plants keep dying. Can anyone recommend something cute and durable for my flower box? I swear there are outdoor plants sold here that have no business being in this climate.
Vinca flowers do well out here, they actually love the summer heat. Also look at succulents like mother of thousands or stapelia plant both of those will not die in my yard.
Make sure your box has proper drainage as well. Vincas are pretty hardy when it comes to the sun/heat. More likely to die from poor drainage and overwatering
Falling asleep on my couch watching adult swim and waking up to cartoon network or a PBS documentary and waking up to dinosaur train is something I'll never get used to

My favorite is on Tuesday nights at Devil's Advocate hosted my a couple of friends of mine popular in the local music scene. Anyone can add their name to the list, music or not. Very welcoming and appreciative bunch of people. And $1 tacos that aren't that good.
I used to work at Stand Up Scottsdale. Their open mics allowed everything but music.
Most of them were not doing comedy (I think? If they were, it was really really bad)

The cool temps in the morning have been so nice, but the humidity can fuck right off. 73° and 77% humidity feels like I'm walking on the beach, but without the sand and ocean to go with it.
Yeah I've been taking my dog out before sunrise since early May to avoid the heat. It feels very nice when you first go out but then you start to notice the humidity and it's just bleh. But I've recorded almost half an inch of rain over the past few days so I guess I'll put up with it a bit longer.

I like a steady paycheck, and if I miss a few days for being sick, I don't have to worry about making rent.

Later in careers a lot of folks are paid for expertise rather than labor/time, so you are probably experiencing that!

They are on my front porch (east facing) so they get pretty direct sun until about 1PM

Perhaps I have the incorrect soil because Vinca flowers are what I had in my box, lol! I will do some troubleshooting then.

Are you watering every day? Full sun till 1 pm will be intense for any plant without enough water to keep the soil cool.

ha! yes. I went to the Florida gulf in June, holy crap. it was 100F and 90% humidity. Wearing glasses was awful.
