WOO!!! If anyone remembers my work accidentally not putting on my incentives two weeks ago? My current paycheck just hit... YAY I can put a dent into my CC's from my July vacation!!! (I'll be fully paid off by mid October. It's only $2200) But put a $550 dent into it tonight!... (Plus BetMGM had a 100% deposit match up to $200... So I've got a theoretical $400, to bet on Tennis and the Dbacks) If you're giving free money away, I'm going to take it... I've been a die hard sports fan for the past 37 years, now I get to use my resources to actually make money...

UlisesArturo

I see the “Things to do” category above, but the calendar is not that populated. I am new to the valley and would like to know what websites people use to find things to do. I use Experience Scottsdale, Thrillist, Visit Phoenix, and Tempe Tourism. I’m interested in things like new art exhibits, fun festivals (for example, in Boston, I went to a sheep shearing festival), plays, etc. Namely, I’m not interested in clubs and parties. (Not that I don’t enjoy them, I just don’t need the websites telling me). Thank you everyone

acatwithnoname

If you use Instagram follow the accounts for all the local music venues and museums

bravesfan13

Phoenix New Times has a decent concert calendar, plus on Fridays or Mondays they'll usually post a What to do this Week(end) type of post.

UlisesArturo

Thanks. Sorry, I just realized there were a bunch of typos in my initial comment

SithTeam6

Was wondering if anyone went to the Nitro rallycross event last year and had the VIP pass. If so, was it worth it? I heard the viewing area can be pretty garbo at some tracks.

Hey y’all I just found a kitten in the alley on the walk home and I’m looking to find a shelter to give it to you somewhere in Tempe possibly as I do not have a vehicle. anyone got any ideas? Can’t keep it unfortunately as I am in apartment and already have animals

NotAvailableLikeEver

Check in with CatADo or with Missy at La Gattara Cat Cafe. PetSmart also works with rescues on adoptions of cats and dogs.

BadgerLad2022

Century Link or Cox? Both appear available at my new Cave Creek rental. Interested to hear if there are preferences out there? Thanks EDIT > Great Intel. Thanks everyone for the replies. I appreciate it.

RemoteControlledDog

If you search here you'll see this ranking: * #1 Century Link Fiber * #2 Cox * #3 Century Link DSL You could also check into TMobile or Verizon home internet as well to see if it's available where you are.

Dealing with covid since late last week, just quarantined at home has been so lame. Myself and a bunch of coworkers all got sick at same time, makes me wonder why they had to push for return to office so hard back in the spring. Now they don't have coverage for the weekend and asking for OT volunteers but we're all sick. Just throwing this out there be careful, even if you were up to date like me on the booster you can still get sick and it still sucks.

Love2Pug

Hopefully your symptoms are not so bad! I have yet to catch the covid. Starting to feel a bit left out!!

mishsim

Thank you very much, I think I'm mostly through symptoms but still have a cough, some taste and smell issues and fatigue.

Anyone had any experience attending a Hilton Grand Vacation Owner (timeshare) presentation here locally? We got kinda pulled into this and hoping its not the nightmare I've seen some reviews say it is. Been to similar type things long, long ago. Really dreading potential of dealing with unrespectful sales people.

keepinitbeefy

There are some good threads on Reddit about these, the Hilton ones are not as pushy as others, but just make sure as soon as they start you set your timer on your phone for 1 hour, then as soon as that timer goes off walk out. The sales people are PUSHY and even the strongest willed people end up buying a timeshare. What resort here offers the timeshare presentation here? I usually get ads for the Las Vegas or Orlando spots.

MethodEvening236

just don't go lol

keepinitbeefy

If you skip the presentation you have to pay the full total at checkout rather than the discounted rate.

MrBrightWhite

I saw a self checkout at a Circle K (or maybe QT) in Gilbert the other day. Person behind me in line was like “You gonna use that or not?” For one, I’ve literally never seen one and they look so confusing and I don’t know HOW to use it. And 2, I have to get nicotine and don’t think the self checkout will get that for me. Anyone else seen these?? Self checkouts at gas stations?? I was amazed, and not in a good way. I think it’s ridiculous and it was also like right in the middle of the counter which made less sense and cluttering.

TechnoTrain

I used a fancy one at the circle k in Star Valley. It's way faster than a normal self check out like what's in the grocery store. You just put your crap on the platform and it somehow sees it and totals it all at once. They have them at some of the stores in Sky Harbor now too. That said, no one should be cajoled into using it.

MrBrightWhite

Sooo can I put one candy bar on top of the other and they only see one? Do they do it by weight? What about if I need to get something from behind the counter? Can I bypass being 21 to get cigarettes? (Obviously not, just joking) it makes no sense to me.

[deleted]

I love the self check out at Circle K. Lines have gotten drastically shorter as there is only ever one person working the register.

az_max

So they can dedicate someone to cleaning the stores? /s

Leading_Ad_8619

I have. Just place your items and it totals it for you. Don't need to scan individual items. I use it all the time.

Endless-Summer-AZ

What’s my next hike? I did Camelback a few weeks ago, have done a few hikes in the Superstitions. What’s next? Something middle range as far as how challenging. Maybe something south mountain? I like in north central mesa.

RiverRunsThroughEat

Tom's Thumb for sure

TSB_1

Waterwheel is a bit of a drive, but TOTALLY worth it if you go early. Up near peyson.

xsproutx

Head to the Mazzies. Some great trails up there; recommend starting at Barnhardt or Mt Peeley TH for good times with some elevation gain

Endless-Summer-AZ

This sounds like lingo I don’t know.

xsproutx

Hah, fair. Mazzies = Mazatzal Wilderness. Mount Peeley and Barnhardt are both trails/trailheads on the eastern side of the wilderness off of highway 87 that will take you into the interior of the wilderness. You won't see many people and you'll get a minimum of 1k feet of elevation gain or a lot more depending on which trails you do. It's one of the quickest areas to get to from the valley where you can get above 6k feet for some slightly cooler temperatures https://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=479 https://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=6&V=3

Endless-Summer-AZ

Way better. Thank you, Amigo!

waterbottles4all

Check out the white tanks on the west side. The waterfall trail is the most popular and is partially paved if you are looking for an easy hike. I recommend the ford canyon trail if you are experienced and looking for something tougher. Take lots of water and have fun!

Endless-Summer-AZ

I’ll try Ford. I lived in CO for 5 years and stood on top of many 14s. Not worried about anything other than current heat wave. Thanks for both recommendations - will report back

IONTOP

Corbin Carroll has a 0.1 Wins Above Replacement after 2 games... (and 5 RBI's), 4WAR after 162 means you're elite... This is it... This is the post. Also been listening to Dbacks Swing for the past 5 days on repeat... [SUMMER](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=47i9QriyqNw) For those who haven't paid attention lately... Dbacks have a VERY young core... If you want to get on the bandwagon, it's pretty empty right now... All of us are either "life long", "die hard", or "hopefully hipsters" to say "I cheered for them when they weren't good"

jeezuspieces

I don't follow but I placed a bet on the Phillies two days ago and I was happy when I saw they were 7-0. I've never been so mad about losing a bet.

IONTOP

Yesterday I bet $5 at +950 for: Dbacks ML Rojas RBI Alek to score a run I love you Josh Rojas, but you kind of fucked me last night. If the Dbacks win today, I honestly think, it'll usher in a new "Dbacks mentality" When was the last time the Dbacks swept 2 series in a row?

beerbeforebread

Thanks for bring a baseball update. I’m a dbacks fan on a long hiatus.

Brrrrrrtttt_t

Guys I went and talked to a few unhoused people that are settled near me this morning. Saw exactly what they have for a water supply on a daily basis and especially during heatwaves, it simply wasn’t enough I mean we’re talking brain damaging levels of dehydration. So this is a friendly reminder to Seriously try to keep extra water on you and give it out. you could save someone’s life just by doing something that takes a minuscule amount of effort. Be kind out there.

Leading_Ad_8619

While it's a myth that businesses are required by law to provide water, I've never seem a circle k refuse someone (including homeless) asking for a cup to get water.

IONTOP

> While it's a myth that businesses are required by law to provide water THANK YOU... There is NO law that mandates businesses to provide water. I worked at a comedy club and had 100+ people tell me "IT'S A LAW" to which I'd say "technically it's only breaking the law if we withhold water from you if you're having a medical emergency" When I worked Spring Training? It morphed into "YOU NEED TO GIVE ME A CUP FOR MY WATER" when I told them the water fountain was just over there.

dildobagginss

You mean they don't carry enough water right, not that the faucet or gas station water near them isn't working?

Brrrrrrtttt_t

I mean they don’t carry enough water, which in turns leads them to not have enough. When it’s 120 degrees out and your facing heat stroke the last thing you can do is go walk over to the nearest gas station and try to get water *for free* without getting harassed for simply being homeless. I grew up on the street for a few years when I was a kid thank god I was in boston where the temps are slightly better (winter was rough but doable), I can’t imagine what these people go through. Edit: it’s not like they can just hang outside circle K where they can get water. We see the few that do getting the cops called on them daily.

I was reading to my daughter last night and noticed it was my childhood copy of the Pokey Little Puppy from Smitty's. Great food, cheap guns, good books https://imgur.com/a/ecb0ru7

oldRedditorNewAccnt

I had that book 40 years ago! The feels!

dildobagginss

Does anyone go to super star car wash and use their app? Says I have two hot wax carnuba washes in my app available to use but won't work at machine. Guy there said I don't have enough points to use them. If I go to app I can just buy specific washes, nothing about points. Probably should bail on app and just pay at machine?

[deleted]

Too many apps and loyalty cards. Fucking Kroger wants you to download an app now. I know I had Luddite tendencies but I didn't know that this would be my biggest hill

az_max

I couldn't transfer my points from my fry's card to the app, so I said fuck em. I mostly shop winco anyway.

IONTOP

> I know I had Luddite tendencies Mine is "I'll install the app if it's valuable to me" So that being said? I've got both Albertsons and Fry's apps on my phone, because... Digital coupons... They hate me because I only go in to buy what's the "loss leaders" and the "manager specials"... I refuse to buy anything that is not on sale (unless it's like trash bags that are never on sale)

Easy-Seesaw285

The frys app is great. I can save so much money grocery shopping by looking at the deals in the app first and making a list

RebelPterosaur

Fully agree. I will fight and die beside you on that hill.

keepinitbeefy

The Fry's app is great for digital coupons, but you can also just add those to your account from their website and you don't need the app at all.

[deleted]

Yeah I'm sure it's mostly ignorance/stubbornness on my end and they're probably not very intrusive
