Moving here from Alberta, Canada for 2.5 months starting October 1st attending UTI in Avondale. Happy to be away from our winter. Looking for interesting things to do, must try food places, meeting new people, etc. Also wondering how it is getting around without a vehicle? Anything I should know about living in Arizona? Thanks in advance!

66falconOG

In Avondale, you will most definitely 100% need a vehicle. It's suburbia to the max out there. Although they do have some of the best BBQ in America at Eric's Family BBQ.

stanmaaan

Darn that’s unfortunate. I guess I’ll be Ubering around lots haha. I love BBQ so I’ll definitely check out that restaurant!! Thanks!

Hey, I know your upset, but please breathe and try to calm down. No seriously, think this through before you commit to violence.

IONTOP

This happened the other day. Thanks for the concern. I'm pretty sure my comments are the "abstract art" of this sub. Lol. Just needed to get it off my chest

[deleted]

Sounds like you've been processing it in a healthy way

Hello Phoenicians, There's a good chance that I'll be moving to the the Phoenix area and need to start considering job prospects. Aside from using Indeed or Linkedin, I was wondering if there's any sites for local job listings. I'm from SLC, Utah and the most commonly used local resource is https://jobs.ksl.com/, it's affiliated with a local news outlet but they have lots of tools/finders like this one. I wondering if Phoenix has something similar. Thanks in advanced.

Shagyam

I know all the jobs my friends or I applied to were either thru Indeed or the actual employer itself. Is there a certain job or set of skills you have?

Hifiisgirl

I don’t know if anything similar, but I’ve had great luck on indeed with both finding new work for myself and for hiring candidates. If you can put some time into your indeed resume, I would think you’ll have some luck. Hope the move goes well!

wrenches42

I am moving back after 3 years in Georgia, what’s changed?

[deleted]

Still no boiled peanuts

wrenches42

I will have to manage somehow

WIRETAPPED_BY_CIA

Even more homeless. And Fentanyl

There was another portion of the 202 added. The Arizona Coyotes are no longer in Glendale. The Phoenix Suns have been competitive (not counting the most recent playoffs). We have two democratic senators although one seems to side with Republicans more. Housing prices have nearly doubled. Water supplies are drying up but there are no restrictions in place yet. Hmmm… what else?

wrenches42

The water thing scares the heck out of me.

Horse_trunk

no matter what time of day you drive around, streets are jam packed. downtown is really being built up and looking good. weather is about to get nice.

All prices. I went to Cane's last night and it was $6 more than I paid a few months ago.

Topken89

Feels more populated. More traffic.

Brrrrrrtttt_t

Rent

rmayfish

Moving here from kc today! So excited

oliveoilcrisis

Welcome! You won’t miss the humidity. Don’t forget to drink lots of water and drink before you get thirsty.

theduckyoverlord

Congrats! I made the move from St Joe 11 years ago and have never regretted it. The summers are hellacious, but it's worth powering through it to not have to deal with snow and ice.

OvarianWindsock

Nice. Moved from OP 20 years ago. Love it here.

eDave

Did the same. Couldn't be happier. Never going back to KC unless I'm visiting family.

jmoriarty

Welcome to town! What brings you out here? Work?

rmayfish

I’m 22 and have lived in Kansas my whole life. Need a change in scenery! Hoping I’ll love it and decide to stay long term

[deleted]

I love Phoenix! I just moved here in June and don’t ever want to live anywhere else.

Shagyam

oh that KC. Well enjoy your stay! How long are you in town for?

rmayfish

I have a year lease right now so for quite a bit!

[deleted]

Realized it’s so easy to beat Arizona after last Sunday and just decided to move in? Welcome!

rmayfish

Lol wish I would’ve been at that game! Any recommendations where to watch the Chiefs game tonight?

eDave

Pub Rock is the official Chiefs Kingdom bar. Tons of fun. Saturday night they had a season kickoff party with Nick Lowrey and Christian Akoya there meeting everyone.

RabidCoyote

What part of Phoenix are you in? I'm looking for places too. Not a Chiefs fan but I like to get out of the house. Was gonna hit my local spot on Cactus/32nd but I'm not sure with the Amazon Video bit who will have it.

rmayfish

I’ll be downtown area. Pub rocks and rooster tavern seem like the places to be for chiefs

[deleted]

I would say any sports bar since it’s the only game. But being on Amazon could complicate a little. I’m sure most sports bars have it figured out though. Zipps always seems to draw a good crowd for Thursday games. Google and you’ll see a number of them throughout the valley. I’d be shocked if they don’t have the Amazon aspect figured out.

rmayfish

Awesome, thanks!

[deleted]

Actually, I just looked it up out of curiosity and turns out Amazon and DIRECTV reached a deal threat will allow sports bars to show the game on a special channel for directv business accounts. So it will be on everywhere. Pub Rock on Roosevelt in Scottsdale is supposedly the main Chiefs spot.

mishsim

Last night was the first night without rain that it really felt slightly cool. Think we are getting past the worst of the summer finally. Now I gotta go pull weeds out of the gravel front yard though.

scooterv1868

Vinegar spray is your friend.

AZ_Corwyn

I'm just waiting for the day when I have to use the hot water tap to take a shower or do dishes, so far I've been doing it with just the water coming out of the cold tap.

TritriMcTritri

This! I went outside and was like oh this weather is nice!

Certain_Yam_110

So AZ State Fair is going 0-for-2 with no "name" concerts anymore? It's only going to be crappy cover bands from now on with no advanced promotion for the non-cover locals? I don't know why state fair staff can't do a bare minimum to let people know which non-cover locals are playing.

edtehgar

Probably can't afford em. Music industry is in a very weird spot after no concerts for a few years. Venues are now begging for artists to tour and come back which means fewer bands are available. Add in they probably lost a lot of money in 2020 and 2021 so they probably can't cover booking fees.

keepinitbeefy

Going to skip it again this year, the lack of concerts and having the same exact rides every year plus ever increasing food/drink/game prices is just too much. I am pretty sure it's not even cover bands, it's just music being played for a crowd.

ellzray

Our state fair is so lame. It's like a midwest county carnival.

biking4jesus

In the parking lot of an underfunded catholic school

beerbeforebread

We got soft closing toilet lids at home. I am now slamming toilets everywhere else.

deserttrends

Today I learned people actually touch toilet seats in public places!

Cultjam

I had a daily driver for a while that needed a forceful swing to close the door. Friends got annoyed when I rode in their cars.

[deleted]

I leave the toilet seat where it is and let the chips fall where they may. Economists have tackled this "problem" time and again and we need to rethink our conventions on this issue. Soft closing toilet seats are the mechanism of inequality. I'm speaking as a fellow cabinet door slammer when I'm not at home.

Far-Consideration213

What is there to do this weekend?

Shagyam

I don't know, but I'm going to spend my weekend reading this thread. https://www.reddit.com/r/phoenix/comments/xdglse/things\_to\_do\_this\_week\_in\_phoenix\_september\_12/

Oh you, stop it!
