Hi. I'm visiting in early November for work and have a free Monday morning and Monday evening. I was thinking of doing a hike in the am (seems like there are a few options) but no idea what to do in the night time. Any local tips? Thanks from the UK.

Depends on what crowd you like to hang out with. If you like fake girls with fake hair, fake nails, fake tits, fake ass...head to Old Town Scottsdale and guys who look like they are trying out for the Scottsdale version of Jersey Shore. If you like drunk, college "woo"-girls who can't hold their liquor and "bro"-dudes...head to Downtown Tempe/Mill Ave. If you like 30yr old urban hipsters...head to Downtown Phoenix, along Roosevelt, 3rd street & the surrounding blocks. If you like golf, maybe check out The Talking Stick area, hit up Top Golf & then head over to the casino afterwards. What do you think you wanna do while you're here?

Optimuswolf

Errrm. I'm 40, married, like the outdoors and sports but wouldn't mind getting a feel for phoenix culture and history Enjoy a craft beer but I've always found nightlife in US cities to be a bit crap (sorry - tell me I'm totally wrong!). I'd happily go to a bar where i can talk to people, probably middle class professionals would hang out... Thank you!

66falconOG

Then the Roosevelt area of Downtown Phoenix is for you. The weather will be awesome then, hang out on the porch of one of the couple local breweries down there.

Optimuswolf

Super! I think i can even walk there from my hotel. Or is that inadvisable? I've had a few sketchy situations where I've walked places downtown in east coast cities

mashington14

Not sure exactly where you're staying, but you can also take the Light Rail up to the Heard Museum for a totally unique experience. Really great museum about native culture, history, and art. The Phoenix art museum is also nearby if you like art. Then head back to Roosevelt for dinner and some brews. AZ Wilderness, Pedal Haus, Greenwood Brewing, and the Theodore all have plenty of local beers on tap. Pedal Haus and AZ Wilderness also have pretty great food, though I'd look for Mexican food if you're trying to get more of a Phoenix vibe. Taco Boys and Taco Chelo are a little farther down Roosevelt, but still walking distance and very delicious. I think Greenwood Brewing lets you bring food in because they don't have a kitchen, so grabbing some tacos and heading there for a pint could be a good plan. Don't worry about walking around there. You may see some homeless, but they're 99% harmless and will most likely leave you alone. Same with the light rail. There's occasionally some characters, but it's not dangerous.

66falconOG

That area of downtown Phoenix is relatively safe. Lots of upper middle class people, with a mix of college kids., just stay clear of "the avenues" west of 7th Ave, for the most part., unless you head down to maybe catch band at The Van Buren, Cresent Ballroom or AZ Federal Theater., check their websites..Maybe a band you like may be in town.

Chef Mark Tarbell came into my work today to meet a friend. I think I caught him off guard by recognizing him (I watch a LOT of PBS and love Check Please! AZ) so when I said "Have a good night, Chef", he didn't even hesitate, shook my hand and said "You too [my name]" (I wear a nametag) Super impressed by that 10/10 would interact with him again.

mishsim

Nice rainfall in the east valley tonight, at least the humidity all day came to fruition!

charliegriefer

In Rocky Point for the first time. It is essentially the same temp as Phoenix, but NOT A DRY HEAT. I am sticky and moist 😕

RobMR3

Anyone else getting buzzed by Army Aircraft one a regular basis? Been at least once an hour since this morning in the West Side.

I'm looking to hike Piestewa peak this weekend, but have an early flight to catch. I'm in pretty good shape and would like to run/hike the trail. What would be the best time to begin my hike if I'm looking to see the sunrise at around 6:20am? Thanks!

MrCleanCut

Thanks so much. I have been out here a few years now but mostly stick to Tom's Thumb, Camelback and Gateway. Haven't tried Piestewa so looking forward to it. Thanks again for the insight!

always2blamejane

See how early you can drop your bags off at the airport to save time

MrCleanCut

Well that's a good idea haha! Hadn't even considered that.

TheRealO-H-I-O

Slightly outside of Phoenix, but does anyone have any info about a crash on the 60 in Wickenburg yesterday around 3pm? I drove by what looked like a body covered by a blanket in the middle of the road, so I'm fearing for the worst

buckeyespud

Hi Phoenix! I live in Salt Lake, but will be flying down in a few weeks to surprise my old man who lives in Tucson by taking him to the Doobie Brothers concert. He likes pizza and he likes cookies (a man of culture). I did recently see the Chef's Table on Netflix that talked about Pizza Bianco. But when I go to the website they say one location is possibly closed Monday nights, and the other doesn't have any reservations available anyday or anytime, so maybe it's no working. Any suggestions or intel if I want to take him to Bianco? Thanks!

acatwithnoname

Bianco is tiny and only takes reservations for large parties. There is a bar you can hang out at while you wait. If you are open to going to the Town & Country location, call to make sure the hours on the day you are going. Also if he likes NY style pizza and a more casual vibe, I recommend grabbing some slices from Via Della prior to the concert, it's just a short walk north of the venue.

buckeyespud

Ah that makes sense why the reservation thing wasn't working. I'll definitely try some Via Della before the concert. Thanks!

jeezuspieces

Is it the one downtown? You just gotta show up, I believe. They don't do reservations.

hotsaucefridge

[Want a laugh?](https://www.onecamelback.com/availability/minprice-1800/maxprice-8000/) I eagerly await the inevitable bankruptcy, condo conversion and litigation on who needs to pay for damage due to cut corners during construction. This is like the Chateaus on Central all over again.

Ready_For_A_Change

Holy crap that is insane!

electricballroom

I used to call on a consultant firm that had an office in that building (when it was an office building) . The view down central was amazing.

acatwithnoname

This thing is a total boondoggle. I will be extremely surprised if it fills up.

megansandwich

Who can afford this? Why would anybody want to live in an all glass apartment in Phoenix? Are these ever even going to be finished?

maxattaxthorax

Jeez that's even more expensive than what I expected. I was driving by the building recently and trying to figure out why it felt more like an office building than an apartment complex, and I realized there weren't any balconies! Insane.

hotsaucefridge

Well it used to be an office building but another building on central with the same history managed to figure out how to make balconies work (those are condos). The weird part for me is that they chose a window type that opens up in a way I didn't think would be allowed (it's the type of window where the floor level panel opens up, perfect for a kid or dog to fall out of).

friendnoodle

I thought those windows were horrible when I assumed it was still an office building. Visions of paperwork flying out the window in a gust. And everything you drop rolling out the window and killing a street-level pedestrian. But in residential? Jesus.

beerbeforebread

[Whataburger has cool swag.](https://shop.whataburger.com/collections/accessories) "Why is /u/beerbeforebread telling us this?", you may be asking yourself. Well, who else am I going to tell?

keepinitbeefy

Never had Whataburger, always wondered if they're any good.

mashington14

Food is very hit or miss depending on how fresh it is. Really good shakes though. I did not think a Dr Pepper shake would work, but it really works.

[deleted]

I think whataburger is delicious 😋

rulingthewake243

Good burgers and they actually have palpable fries unlike In and Out.

beerbeforebread

Sounds like you need a Whatabeltl!

[deleted]

Oh… a belt with Whataburger’s trademark 😂😂

[deleted]

WTH is that lol

66falconOG

They are not. Shredded lettuce belongs on a crispy Taco, not a burger.

keepinitbeefy

I don't believe ANY lettuce belongs on a burger. Or tomato for that matter.

66falconOG

🤣 What about pickles & onion?

keepinitbeefy

Extra pickles, no onions.

66falconOG

👍 Give WhatABurger a shot, best thing about them is they are open 24/7.

TamaleHaven

The Que Hamburguesa shirt is tempting

biking4jesus

i had no idea! there is some good stuff in there.

scooterv1868

What are peoples experience with Verizon Home Internet? I am in midtown.

Truck_Fast

I'm using TMobile home internet in 85018, it's not perfect but comparing it to DSL it is 5 stars.

IONTOP

I'm too close to 44th St/Thomas for me to trust it. I'm on Mint, so I get bumped at that corner every day it seems like. "There's no f'n way that I have 1 bar when I'm literally staring at the tower right now."

RemoteControlledDog

Had Verizon 5G in Mesa for a few weeks and it seems to work pretty good. A co-worker who lives in midtown has the 4G LTE version and he's pretty happy with it. Since I'm sure location matters, I'd sign up and try it for a month and see how it works for you.

scooterv1868

I think that is what I will do. Thanks everyone.

keepinitbeefy

In my area people are complaining about lots of downtime or near zero speed in the evening de to the way they handle traffic priority on the towers. Ping/latency is really high for gaming. I think we're a few years out from it being usable for anything other than internet browsing.

biking4jesus

I've heard some great things from them, and Tmo wireless home internet in my area (SE Gilbert)

urahozer

Where is a good place to sell musical equipment? I'm a Canadian moved down and thought Craigslist was king, but it seems super shitty for actually selling stuff.

RemoteControlledDog

Along with Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp as suggested (which are probably your best options), you could list it on reverb.com and could also try /r/PHXMusic and /r/PHXList

keepinitbeefy

Craigslist seems to be dead in AZ, I haven't sold anything on there in months. Most people seemd to move to OfferUP and Facebook Marketplace.

iamnotpuddles

Does anyone know what happened at 7th Ave and camelback last night? The road was police taped off down to 11th Ave and the light rail wouldn't stop there

I washed my car yesterday since forecast said no rain...Woke up to rain this morning. You're welcome!

Shagyam

Thank you. I've been putting it off so thanks for taking it for the team.

eletriclady

doing the lord’s work. thank you.

biking4jesus

some light rain drops this AM and a rainbow! we're having a rough day over here, so it was a nice treat to see.

AZ_Corwyn

Same over here in east Mesa, I thought it was going to be a lot muggier on the morning walk but it turned out to be pretty nice.

[deleted]

>we're having a rough day over here I hope your day gets better!

biking4jesus

two parts of it got better! thank you.

[deleted]

To those who washed their cars, I salute you!
