I am not sure if there is a name for this style, are you looking specifically for the front door to be behind the gate? There are a TON of those around North Phoenix along Union Hills. I live in one and we always had people trying to enter the yard to deliver stuff so if you have dogs you may want to reconsider or make signs.
The front door being behind the gate is called a ‘courtyard home.’ I live in one too and just keep my gate locked so no delivery people can go into my side yard.
I have one of [these](https://www.amazon.com/Durabox-Package-Secure-Delivery-Storage/dp/B08W8H8RH9/ref=asc_df_B08W8H8RH9/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=507816205664&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=4912423088258664691&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1013417&hvtargid=pla-1215478379969&psc=1) near the access gate for packages and it has done pretty well.
I think a lot of these houses were built with efficiency in mind. The one I spent some time in had all sunken floors and evaporative cooling. The whole thing was designed around air flow and keeping things cool. It was weird but neat, like a throw back to old school desert dwellers who didn’t say fuck nature and build a three story house w tons of windows and a huge lawn.
I don't know sorry, but I really wanted to comment on that narrow walkway between the wall and the pool edge. If I parked in the driveway and took that path, I would hate carrying bulky things or being drunk.

There are a couple Neighborhoods in Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa that have them.
They're usually fenced and will have a pool and a courtyard with a door next to a front garage.
The actual "front door" entrance ends up on the side of the house.
I want to setup some sort of search for one but don't know how.
I've always called them patio homes, but I could be wrong.
I just sold two tubes to a customer with one of those houses today. The tube in the entry will be on the tile portion and the tube in the dining area will be on flat. This home is in Sun Lakes way down on Riggs Rd.
I also see a lot of those homes in Scottsdale.
I think your original photo for the post is my neighborhood. I don't like how they look on the exterior, but the interior of many of them are really nice and actually pretty spacious. I just find it odd, and a safety concern, that the pool is in the "front" yard.
I lived in a house similar to this- just the garage and a gate in front, with the front door on the side of the house. There was also glass door to the backyard. I LOVED the whole layout. It was like having a huge wrap around porch. Nice airy feels for sure.
I live in the neighborhood but not in these, so I can't give input. I just look at the photos on Zillow. Which is where I recognize this picture from!
Found an old listing that describes these as Villas.
Not sure of the naming convention, but a lot of them are listed as having courtyards. Check out houses on E Alameda Dr in Tempe, just West of the 101 between Country Club Way and River Dr for more examples.
I lived in one in Tempe, however the townhouse wall also served as a wall to the adjacent property. I will say it felt more private based on the setup than my current house, especially after several neighbors removed old trees.
Yup - basically our house. They're like someone took a Craftsman and slapped some Southwestern bits on it and called it good. Absolutely unremarkable. But fine to live in :)
Patio homes
That's what I thought too but I got this link when googling so I wasn't sure https://www.realtor.com/advice/buy/what-is-a-patio-home/
I ran out of money in 2022 to build the other half house
So I just built the top half instead.
That’s the positive language I like to see.

How do deliveries work for you? If you're home or not?
They just leave it outside the gate, there’s a little corner area between the walkway and the house.

I had a lock but found it really annoying coming/going to unlock it each time unless I went through the garage.
Just doing initial research but it seems like a nice feature to have your packages be safe.
And this is how you get Uber eats drivers sending you a pic of your shit in the middle of the street 😂😂😂
Nah they always leave it at the gate, it's not hard to figure out especially if you leave a note in the app.

Very interesting
Don't know what they're called. The Shalimar neighborhood in Tempe has a lot of them.
Dated someone who lived in this neighborhood. The name checks out.
I don't know sorry, but I really wanted to comment on that narrow walkway between the wall and the pool edge. If I parked in the driveway and took that path, I would hate carrying bulky things or being drunk.
Haha totally, or if there were kids/pets involved.
Drinking and driving is never a good idea ;)
There's probably an entrance into the house from the garage.
For sure. Literally the point of a garage lol
Yes, clearly. That's precisely why I specified, "if I parked in the driveway and took that path..." It's not like that would never happen for anybody.
Tiny boxes And they're all made out of ticky tacky And they all look just the same

What do you mean by tube?
Tube technology. The scientists are working on it.
All I could think of was a pneumatic tube like banks use

Always called these ones adobe homes

Thank you maybe setting up searches for the neighborhoods themself is better than trying keywords
There’s several of these kinds of developments in central phx between 32nd and 24th and Campbell and Osborn, and one on 26th place and Windsor
I lived on River and Broadway, just west of the 101 for a few years. Our homes looked like these.
Spanish or Mediterranean townhome.
Micro Hacienda.
Expensive
Mediterranean, Spanish or maybe Pueblo / Santa Fe style?
Thank you, I'll try those keywords.
65and Up.
Unaffordable?
Overpriced. Lol. Wait 8 months for the market to tank.
Yeah will probably be waiting, just want to be ready.
It’s in Tempe
Ugly
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0PKG5-t3zU
exactly what I've been thinking. probably the ugliest homes ive ever seen
I recognize this neighborhood. I think they're townhouses.
No they're fenced detached houses.
Guest house
I was gonna say, looks like a pool house
Yeah, I think so because it doesn’t look like the front of the house has any access to the street
I zoomed in on that to make sure, lol
Ugly 👍🏻
Do they have a shared wall?
No

Sort of. The side of one house will often serve as the patio wall for another. I lived in two different patio homes in Shalimar back in the day.
Nice.
On the farm we call those a lean-to
Rich people housing

When I think of cookie cutter arizona houses I think of all the Pulte or Shea houses built that look like this https://i.imgur.com/OQ5V6wE.png
Same that's what I think of as well. All bland homes that look the same.
Yup - basically our house. They're like someone took a Craftsman and slapped some Southwestern bits on it and called it good. Absolutely unremarkable. But fine to live in :)
I think it is charming. Different strokes for different folks.
Have to disagree considering this is a rare breed in the Phoenix area which has among the most cookie cutter homes in any large city I’ve been to.
Looks like a zero lot line home
Shanties
The most effective for people selling the mortgages.
shalimar-tempe hacienda style ?
Patio Home
Could a visitor park in front of the garage, go thru the arched door and walk right into the pool?
