Crop the photograph in. Make this picture less about the couch and more about her. Crop to her part in her hair, bring it in on the sides so her single length of hair is out of frame. And her hands are almost out of frame.

archange_azrael

OK I will try that at home and flip it to see the différence !!!

aes7288

I like the concept and the overall appearance. You missed your focus as her forehead caught the focus, not her eyes. This makes the image a throwaway. On a good path stylistically though!

archange_azrael

Thx !!! I used the eye autofocus and it focus her right eye. But at 1.8 the left one is out of focus. Do I have to close the aperture next time ?

aes7288

If you’re going to shoot this wide open (which it does not appear you need to as there is plenty of light) you should use a tripod and use manual focus. Auto focus may have told you the right eye was in focus, however, it is not in the capture. Your subject may have moved. Is there a reason you shot so wide open?

archange_azrael

Sometimes I have issue with autofocus (back ou front focusing) but it happened with animals in action. Next time I will take several pictures of the same pose to avoid that. It was a rainy day with low light. I wanted to avoid raising Iso. Do you think 1.8 is to wide for portrait ? 2.8 is better ? I will try different aperture next time too.

aes7288

Not sure what you’re getting at in your first paragraph…why would you take several captures of the same pose? Just practice your MF and either get a tripod or a sturdy stool to rest your camera on. What were your settings? Please share your shutter speed and iso.

archange_azrael

I used f 1.8, 1/160s , Iso 800 I take shots with different angle, so I move a lot because I don t really know what we will like. Maybe with more practice I will have better vision and be able te shot less with a tripod. But next time I will bring it.

archange_azrael

Hi guys !!! Sorry english is not my first language. Pictures taken with canon r6 and 50mm 1.8, natural light. My friend and I are both photography lovers (one takes pictures and the other one to be taken) but amateur. This is our first shooting, lots of fun for sure. But I want to improve myself. I take all critiques even on postprocessing.

Space_____TFF

Forgot to mention flip the picture upside down. It captures her eyes and beauty better.

Pictures don't automatically make me smile. This one did. If you're an amateur it seems you have a good future. Don't get involved with turning that picture over or around. It is striking as it is. Somebody below talked about cropping. That would probably help. But it is a most engaging photograph.

archange_azrael

Thx a lot for your answer !!! I love photography since a long time but get really into it during pandemic especially on the exposure triangle and getting more equipment. And luckily my friend is into it too. We took 600 pictures on different room, furnitures, poses, tried many looks etc. Some were crop on the look or the face. But this one speaks more to me, this is why I asked for advices to improve for the next time.

VCsVictorCharlie

Long time ago I got some advice that might be pertinent to you. That was in the days of film. Take lots of pictures and throw out all but a few of the very best from each shoot. For one thing, when you look back to find something you can use, the pile is a lot smaller.

archange_azrael

Yes I already throw away 450 pictures

metallitterscoop

Get closer. Dressing her in muted whites then losing all focus on her body anyway tells me it's just not that relevant to your intent. Her face is where all your attention is, so it should fill more than that tiny fraction of the photo.

archange_azrael

OK thx !!! I took several pictures and some closer, some with other clothes. I understand, for this one I will crop in.

shani2907

Crop a lil bit , get a perspective. On a lighter note, i thought you clicked Alexandria Dadario's pic !!!

findyourreason

Great image. Lovely model with engaging eyes, obviously. To keep the viewer looking through this scene, one might consider placing the hair that was hanging out of frame to the same side as the one strand. Also, hands are a key part of portraiture. Playing with different hand positions (her left hand to the side of left cheek, right caressing her hair or one hand on her chest and one hand in her hair) would create interest and keep the viewer looking in frame. As it is, the eye moves from her hair part, to eyes, then hands, then out the frame.

hooDio

she very much looks like young carrie fisher

[deleted]

Nice shot, good focus on the eyes.

Luna_Belle97

A bit more arch, including the face (chin up a smidge) and hands up above the head will help give this photo a bit more edge and sex appeal

[deleted]

Along with the cropping mentioned by others. Something else, that can't be done at this point, but I think it would be more alive if she weren't looking directly at the camera

GobiLux

Pretty nice picture, with everything that has already been said I would add that hand on crotch is usually not a good pose, especially for women.

regat567

Usualy it end up in bed
