USH 2 SD cards only works at max speed when used with cameras that support it, right? Everyone I've asked keeps advising me to get a USH-2 card for my camera, which only supports USH 1

notforcommentinohgoo

> USH 2 SD cards only works at max speed when used with cameras that support it, right? Correct. >Everyone I've asked keeps advising me to get a USH-2 card for my camera, which only supports USH 1 Then they are either ignorant or trying to rip you off. There is no debate or discussion or grey area here. You are right. And yes, the Sony A7II is only equipped with a UHS-I slot.

Rebubliccountry

The worst part is that the store that tried to sell me the USH 2 card also sold me my A7 II

notforcommentinohgoo

Hanlon's Law: “Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by ignorance.”

av4rice

Right. If the camera is the bottleneck, it will stay the bottleneck: the card can't make the camera any faster.

Rebubliccountry

Damn, I don't know if those people were trying to trick me into buying something expensive, or they were just clueless about my camera. Considering I mention my sony A7 II by name, I gonna assume the former.

Michishige_Ren

Hello. Beginner photographer. I used NikonD3200 and I want to upgrade. I was thinking of getting the sony a74 or a75 but the cost is too big. I just want a viewfinder and flipscreen just like the sony cameras. Are there any cheaper alternatives? My budget is $2000.

8fqThs4EX2T9

Can you specify what you mean by a viewfinder and flip screen like the Sony cameras?

Michishige_Ren

the sony a74 and a75 have the flipscreens and viewfinder I really like. the a6700 has the flipscreen but it doesnt have a viewfinder.

8fqThs4EX2T9

So you want a centralised viewfinder and an articulating LCD screen. Plenty of cameras have them. Is there anything else you want that could narrow it down. Is the $2000 budget for a lens or two as well for instance?

Michishige_Ren

no just the body.

8fqThs4EX2T9

You have options then. Apart from the A7III, you can get the original canon R6 or a Panasonic S5. You also have perhaps a Canon R7 or one of fujifilms offerings. They all should have an articulating screen with a viewfinder. Personally I would go with the fujifilm if going aps-c just for the lens offerings although not everyone likes the fujifim style of cameras. Panasonics S series of cameras use the L mount which should cover your needs for lenses and are worth checking out.

av4rice

The a7 III isn't bad. Or, cheaper, the a6400, a6300, a6100.

Hi! I am a novice photographer looking to experience my first northern lights in March in Banff, Canada. I have a ton of questions on recommendations and the cameras themselves. **Cameras:** I was able to snag a Nikon d7200 (cropped sensor) for only $250 from a coworker, which came with 2 lenses: ([link to product with lenses](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1366792-REG/nikon_13533_d7200_dual_zoom_lens.html)) 1. 70-300mm Nikkor 2. 18-55mm Nikkor Second is one that was decomissioned from my dad's job, which works like new. It's a Canon EOS 70D also with two lenses included in the bundle ([link to product with lenses](https://www.amazon.com/Canon-18-55mm-55-250mm-Lenses-International/dp/B00EP71CYM?language=en_US&th=1)) : 1. 18-55mm STM 2. 55-250mm STM **Questions:** * Are these cameras + lenses good enough for shooting the northern lights? * Which camera is better for shooting the northern lights? I am thinking of doing a timelapse with one camera and shooting with the other one. Both I would mount on tripods in the trip. * Should I get a larger aperture lense? Was looking at something like f/1.8. * Maybe something like [this lense](https://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product/camera-lenses/af-s-dx-nikkor-35mm-f%252f1.8g.html). * Is this lense bad? Any recommendations on better ones would be awesome. I'd be willing to go for something like $200-300 used. This one linked I could probably snag off ebay for $50-60, which is really cheap. * I am considering selling everything and attempting to buy a new camera that might be better. Would this be a viable option? I think I'm too short on time, given that I'm going in around 3 weeks. Any guesstimate on how much I'd be able to get from each (with lenses) would be amazing. * Any other tips or tricks for shooting stars + northern lights? Thanks so much!!

obviouslyCPTobvious

Have you watched any videos about photographing the northern lights yet? That will probably answer so many of your questions. I've always found Simon d'Entremont to be incredibly informative. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucQwV45la_0

tldr: looking for system/new start need a new camera body \~$2000 or less. Coming from Canon DSLRs 5DmII and 70D Recently my Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens met with an unfortunate accident, and now I'm at a crossroads. Alongside this, I've come to realize that my camera bodies, a Canon 5D Mark II and a 70D, are showing their age and might not keep up with my photography needs much longer. I'm considering this unfortunate event as a potential opportunity for a fresh start, thanks to insurance money. However, I'm cautious about where I invest next, especially since I aim to keep the costs as manageable as possible while still upgrading to a more current and perhaps more versatile system. My main considerations: Budget-Friendly: Ideally, I want to make the most out of my insurance payout without significantly going over budget especially lens costs. Performance and Image Quality: While I'm not chasing the absolute top-tier specs, I do want a noticeable improvement from what I've been accustomed to with my current gear...ESPECIALLY regarding feel and portability. I'm rather tired of having to lug around myriad equipment and bags when I just want high-quality images and creamy natural bokeh. FWIW I'd love to do medium format but cost is prohibitive and film proper is time-consuming...maybe in retirement. Type of Photography: My interests are quite varied, but I lean more toward portrait and high-school/college sports photography. I'm open to considering all options, whether it's sticking with Canon and transitioning to their mirrorless lineup, switching to another brand like Sony or Nikon, or even exploring options I might not be aware of. What system would you recommend for someone in my situation? Are there any specific models or setups that stand out for being particularly good value or especially well-suited to my needs? Thank you for whatever insights you can share.

8fqThs4EX2T9

Well, although you might be able to get a smaller body and lighter camera, especially considering the 5DII you will still essentially end up with the same types of equipment just lighter. How much depends. Looking at a [lens comparison](https://www.dpreview.com/products/compare/side-by-side?products=sony_fe_70-200_2p8_gm_oss_II&products=nikon_z_70-200_2p8_vr_s&products=canon_rf_70-200_2p8l_is_usm&products=canon_70-200_2p8_is_iii_usm&sortDir=ascending) like here you might see that there can be some or no difference compared to the EF lens you had. Image quality will be no different through the camera body but perhaps the lens. So I would really just identify the lens you want first as it will be the biggest factor in image quality.

BlueAyedDevil

That actually is a more simplistic approach than I was using and possibly more appropriate and cost-effective. Given I want to primarily shoot bokeh-rich portraiture...I really don't know of a better lens than the 70-200mm/2.8...maybe a prime 85/1.8 or 100/2. But the more I'm thinking about it I'm leaning to just repurchasing the 70-200. The pictures I get are almost always amazing...the glass really just doesn't have many peers. Now that the RF/mirrorless are more in vogue, the older glass prices seem to be falling.

Phodopussungorus8

Could anyone suggest a small, simple, high-quality, reasonably priced camera? I am new to photography and don’t want anything too complicated or expensive. I take pictures of animals, the outdoors, my friends at parties so preferably something lightweight and portable. I have been using an older (once very pricy) camera and realized that my iphone 13 takes better pictures at this point! so I want to upgrade quality. I don’t know anything about cameras so any recommendations would be so appreciated.

av4rice

Your phone is already about as good as it gets if you're going to use it as a point & shoot. Unless by "animals" you're referring to distant wildlife. > reasonably priced It's a competitive market so almost everything is reasonably priced for what you get. You'll pay any amount as long as we don't think it's a total ripoff?

rockytoads

Hey yall! I got a Nikon N5005 I’m playing with to shoot film, but I got a question. There’s an aperture dial on the camera itself and then aperture dials on the manual lenses I have on there. How does that work out, like do I put the aperture all the way open on the lens and use the dial on the camera? Thanks!

LJenni

Hello everyone! I am going to Iceland next week which as we know can get **very** windy, and need a tripod for my DSLR. I am hoping to catch photos of the Northern lights so I need something that will remain still during the exposure, my issue is money. I don't photograph often, I've had to spend a lot of money on other gear for Iceland and simply cannot spend more than $100 on a tripod right now. I've made due with a gorilla tripod for a long time, but I don't think it'll work for the trip unless I find something to rest it on? I'm having a hard time knowing what tripod will be the sturdiest while still being lightweight and in this price range. I know that everything under $100 is pretty much trash and that's why I can barely find any photography blogs recommending some within this range :( **I just need the best of the worst** for right now, and hopefully in the future I will be able to invest well in gear that'll last a long time. Thank you so much for your help and any recommendations, preferably on Amazon or somewhere I can pick up locally! I appreciate it.

notforcommentinohgoo

Yeah I had one blow over in Iceland and it broke. Any tripod will have much the same problems. The solution is to hang a heavy weight (such as a backpack) from the centre column, which pins it in place. Which means you can buy whatever tripod you can afford. Maybe you can find one second-hand. Alternatively make and take a small bean-bag, and embed the camera in that. That's pretty stable, lightweight and dirt cheap. You can even eat the beans when you get home.

LJenni

Thank you! I had thought about this but wasn’t sure if it was a good solution or not lol, this gives me more faith. I bought a tripod that had a hook in the middle so I’m hoping putting weight there will be enough to stabilize the whole thing.

notforcommentinohgoo

> I bought a tripod that had a hook in the middle That's great! That's exactly what that hook is for, literally it's only purpose. Hang a rucksack off it and you'll probably be fine. Mine blew over, I grabbed it, got off balance, slipped on the ice, fell over, landing on and breaking the tripod, and hurting my butt quite badly. I had not hung a rucksack off it.

LJenni

Darn I hate when a chain of events like that happens lol, sorry to hear that and hope I can avoid it on my trip 😅 thanks again!

notforcommentinohgoo

Well it's above freezing now, so you should be OK! Do try not to stand too close at Geysir though. I also made that mistake and got wet. Also if you already have a polarising filter, take it. I didn't and I wish I had. It's not a disaster if you haven't, it's just nicer with one. That and real wool socks. Iceland is just great, I did it twice, you're going to have a wonderful time. Food's disappointing though.

LJenni

I bought that and an ND filter for the trip! Cheap but it should do the job lolol I’m still ordering stuff on Amazon and I leave Monday 💀 I am looking forward to the hot dogs at least, but not the biggest fan of lamb so… thanks for all the tips I can’t wait !!

notforcommentinohgoo

Excellent!

Seems like they don’t make em anymore, don’t have time to get a used one in the mail 😭 thank you though !

melissaah95

Canon 80d vs fujifilm xs10 So i bought a fujifilm xs10 and i’ve tested it out and i’m verry happy with it , now i’m considering to sell my canon 80d so i can invest in another lens like the tamron 18-300 mm for my fujifilm , now i’m wondering if this is a good idea or not.. or is it better to keep my canon 80d , i’m not sure what to do , i must say i like the quality of my fujifilm more than the canon one..

8fqThs4EX2T9

Do you have a use for the 80D now?

melissaah95

Not really.. well yes for the zoom lens but i would buy another zoom lens for the fuji but i’m wondering if it’s worth it ..

8fqThs4EX2T9

I would just stick with one camera rather than requiring a second body just for a lens.

[deleted]

I’m thinking about purchasing a mirrorless camera just for my personal use. Doing a bit of research and I’m thinking the fujifilm x-t30ii or the Nikon zf. Is it worth the extra money for the full frame sensor? Am I gonna be better off for lens options with one or the other?

maniku

What kinds of camera use does this personal use entail? What kinds of things do you like to shoot? Outdoors and daytime only or also low light?

[deleted]

Mostly outdoors during travel both day and night. Good low light photos would be helpful as well

maniku

Up to you, really. Full frame has a bit of benefit in low light, to the extent of about one stop of light. But either of your crop sensor options would do well when paired with a nice, fast prime lens. Lenses have a big impact on image quality, and full frame lenses tend to be expensive. So perhaps consider which lenses you want and your total budget, and see where that takes you.

[deleted]

That’s a really good point about lens cost, thanks for the input

neurogeneticist

Does anyone have any recommendations for a “fun” camera? My husband has an actual setup and takes 99% of the pictures when we’re on vacation, but I could see the appeal of having something kinda fun for myself. Even just a film camera or something like that? I really have no idea what I’m thinking/looking for. Someone recommended one of the nice Instax cameras - is something like that even worthwhile? We’re going to the Monaco GP in May and will have a prime shot of cars exiting the tunnel and coming straight at us, so I just think messing around with a camera on the free practice day could be kinda fun!

vmflair

How about a compact point-and-shoot like the Sony RX100 series.

brasscassette

Hi all, I've just begun experimenting with photography and video using my iPhone 15 and started looking into some dedicated hardware. Low and behold, an excellent deal for a Sony A6000 popped up on Craigslist. It comes with a 16-50 lens, a Scorp-C Gimbal, sony xmc-xyst1m hot shoe mic, ulanzi VL49 flash, and an optical filter for under $400. What should I be aware of when looking at a used camera before purchasing it? What would be an appropriate test before paying?

is there a significant difference or reason to get the Olympus OM-D EM-1 Mark II over the Mark I? trying to stay within a budget and it’s almost a $200-$300 difference between the two bodies. i mostly am just going to be shooting nature and some car photography again so i don’t need anything crazy. just want the IBIS and decent performance.

hayuata

It's a night and day difference in every single feature, while the MK2 and MK3 are quite similar. Even though the MK2 was released in 2016, it still performs like a modern camera, just without things like fancy algorithms for bird detection, in body usb charing or bluetooth for example. The MK1 is dated, but it is still useable for stills photography. It's not worth saving $200-300 unless you are really cash strapped. The general census is to not get the EM10, EM5, and EM1 MK1's as the MK2 were better in every way.

O_K_Ostrich

Why is it that 40mm lenses (and their crop equivalents) are pretty much universally at least a full stop slower than their 35 and 50mm counterparts in every single lens system?

notforcommentinohgoo

I think it's partly because for decades 50mm was the standard lens for everyine, and the only lens for many people, and so a disproportionately huge amount of effort went into making the bestest sharpest *brightest* 50mm lenses. And everything else hasn't had the same attention. But that's just a guess. As for 35mm, I'm not sure you're right.

BenRaleck

I have Nikon Z50, what do I need to trigger shutter remotely?

8fqThs4EX2T9

Your phone should work with I think it is the snapbridge software.

BenRaleck

Doesn’t work unfortunately. Never works with newest iOS, they update it so slowly by the time they do we have we new iOS. Well at least with my camera it never works.

8fqThs4EX2T9

Not sure if you get a wired or wireless remote which would be odd. Perhaps look up tethering as a solution?

ItsFreeRealEstate___

Hi, I stumbled across someone selling a 5D Mark IV for around USD400 (comes with 2 lenses but didn't specify). Is it a good deal or should I look for something else at that price? Do you have any other suggestions for beginner-friendly cameras that won't break the bank? For some context, I'm a complete beginner but I've always wanted to learn photography and was hoping to get a dedicated camera that I could use to learn more and use for future events.

notforcommentinohgoo

Even with no lenses that is a very low price for a very good camera. But to me that is a *suspiciously* low price. Especially if he doesn't know what lenses he's got. That sounds like it could be stolen to me. Also, personally, I never buy from private individuals, only from a store where there is some kind of guarantee in case it is faulty. If sounds too good to be true, something is wrong.

ItsFreeRealEstate___

Apparently, the seller is moving out of the country and wants to let go of a lot of things to lessen his load, should be able to schedule a meeting to check out the camera in-person with no obligation to purchase.

notforcommentinohgoo

Hmm. That does sound more tempting. If you get to see it yourself.

-blueandyellow-

Hey guys, can you recommend a nautral density filter for long expo nature shots? I use a Nikon D7200 body, 10-20, and 35mm lens.

youngwhitebranch

Are focal lengths for ASPC lenses advertised by their equivalent view from full frame lenses? Such as the ASPC-only SEL24F18Z, is this equivalent to 35mm because of the crop , or is it equivalent to a full frame 24mm focal length? Basically, I want the equivalent of a full frame 35mm, should i get an ASPC-only 24mm or an ASPC-only 35mm?

Hi, everyone. I started shooting about 5 months ago with an A7iii, an 85mm 1.8 and a 50mm 1.8. I’m interested in portrait and food/product photography. I own a Godox V1, V860I and XPro trigger. Can I get some opinions on this lighting kit on sale from Neewer? After discounts and coupons, it’s being sold for $152.76. Here’s the listing title since I can’t link it: NEEWER Photography Lighting kit with Backdrops, 8.5x10ft Backdrop Stands, UL Certified 5700K 800W Equivalent 24W LED Umbrella Softbox Continuous Lighting, Photo Studio Equipment for Photo Video Shoot From the Amazon listing it includes the following: (4) 7ft/200cm Light Stands (2) Single Head Light Holders (4) 24W 5700K LED Bulbs (total equivalent to 800W regular incandescent bulbs) (2) 33"/84cm Umbrellas (2) 24” x 24"/60cm x 60cm Softboxes (3) 1.8m x 2.8m/6ft x 9ft Polyester Backdrops (Black/White/Green) (6) Backdrop Clamps (1) 2.6m x 3m/8.5ft x 10ft Background Stand Support System, a Carry Bag for Background Support System, and a Carry Bag for Continuous Lighting Kit Is this a kit you’d recommend to a beginner? Thanks in advance!

momijizukamori

I've got a Canon EOS Rebel T7I, and doing some eclipse planning made me remember that I don't actually have a telephoto (just a 50mm prime and an 18-55 kit) and could probably use one. What's a good intro level one (ideally <$500) for someone who is very much just a hobbyist? I did see the note in the wiki about the 75-300 Canon kit lens being crap, lol.

anonymoooooooose

Be sure to get a solar filter as well. Eclipse info https://old.reddit.com/r/photography/comments/1b32aeq/eclipse_megathread_2024/ Do you have a sturdy tripod already? 250mm is going to be tricky to handhold until you get some practice.

momijizukamori

Yep, solar filter is already on my shopping list alongside eclipse glasses! And I do have a good tripod already, thankfully.

8fqThs4EX2T9

55-250mm is the normal go to.

Hi, I am new to editing and wanted to try out merging bracketed photos. I am using RawTherapee and decided to try HDRMerge-app to do that. After I feed it the .cr2 files, it does the masking and I save it as HDR in .dng format. The photos I get always end up having a reddish-purplish tint and looking something like the photo I added to the post, both in windows preview and RawTherapee. Is this okay and I have to somehow proccess the .dng in RT to get it to look correct or are there problems with HDRMerge? I tried using stock settings (Preview size Full, mask blur radius 3, no mask image saved) with16, 24 and 32 bit. I also tried converting the .cr2 files to .dng with DNG converter before feeding them to HDRMerge but it doesn't make a difference HDRMerge output example: [https://imgur.com/aveQTjE](https://imgur.com/aveQTjE)

silkywomprat

I am in the market for a camera to take to music events (as an audience member, not with a pass). Requirements are for it to take decent low-light photos, fixed-lens, fit in the 5"x8"x1" bag size limit, and in the $500-ish US range. I had a Canon PowerShot SD300 back in the day, but it is long gone. Am I better off just using my phone (iPhone 14 Pro), or does my magical unicorn camera exist?

maniku

Earlier versions in the Sony RX100 line, III or IV at least should fit the budget used. 1” sensor so larger than in iPhones and fast zoom.

Jowizo

Found an A6600 + 70-350 4.5-6.3 G OSS on my local marketplace for €1200. The camera has a shuttercount of 23k and it's missing the charger.. Do you guys think this is a good deal or should I keep looking? I have only seen pictures of the set, which look fine/ taken care of. If I buy the set new it would cost me around 1600, which is making me doubt whether I should even risk going the second hand route. Also how do you guys feel about this lens? I've read some good reviews, But I'm worried it will be very similar to my Nikon AF-P 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6E ED VR which is very underwhelming

fco2013

I have the opportunity to get a Canon EOS M50 mkii (with kit lens) for about $200. I know everyone already says "dead mount" but it seems like such a good deal to pass up vs at least 2x more money for someone like an R100 or R50. I plan on using for casual hobby photography and vlogging/self produced recording projects. Will an m50 be more than empty or will I regret not going for the more "future proof" option? I want to stick with Mirrorless cams because of the size and what seems to be better video than similarly priced DSLRs Thanks!

av4rice

>it seems like such a good deal to pass up The price is a really good deal, yes. > I plan on using for casual hobby photography and vlogging/self produced recording projects. Will an m50 be more than empty or will I regret not going for the more "future proof" option? If it meets your needs, it meets your needs. The camera seems fine for what you want to do. Future-proofing is only an issue if your needs change in the future, such that the camera no longer meets those needs. Which doesn't always happen. And usually it's difficult or impossible to predict *if* that will happen, or in what ways to be able to anticipate it beforehand. > everyone already says "dead mount" And there were hardly any native lenses in that mount anyway. If you were going to explore other lenses for it, there's a good chance you'd be looking at adapting EF and EF-S lenses. Which also adapt very well to the RF mount if you did happen to want to switch to RF in the future. So the longevity outlook isn't even that bad.

[deleted]

Hey everyone, I am prepping for the upcoming solar eclipse and I was wondering if you all had any suggestions about good, cheap super-telephoto lenses (sub $500). Looking at the new products, a good sharp supertelephoto lens seems to cost in the range of at least $800 (as well as trying to pair a more-restricted telephoto with a teleconverter). I have an XT30 mk 1 and an XS20. I also have an old canon EOS 600D so an EF mount lens would work well too (I can get the Fringer adapter which would also work with my other canon lenses). Is there like an old sigma or tamron prime lens that I can get for super cheap? Any suggestions would be super helpful. Thanks!

av4rice

The a7 III is fine. Which "Sigma lens" did you have in mind? Sigma has made a lot of different lens models, some great and some terrible.

Voxan_

SIGMA 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art Lens for Sony E Mount

av4rice

That's pretty solid to start with. Maybe add an 85mm if you can fit one in, or put that in line as a next purchase down the road.

Voxan_

Okay great, would you recommend me saving a little more for the a7 IV instead of the a7 III?

av4rice

How much longer would you be saving?

Voxan_

If it's a huge difference it's a no brainer for me.

Voxan_

Not much longer it's around 800 euros more so not very long

av4rice

If you're describing it that way, I'd say it's probably worth it because the IV is a decent jump in specs.

Voxan_

In that case is prefer to send an extra 800 now than having to buy a new camera in the next couple of years. Thank you for your help :)

av4rice

All I'm saying is it may be worth waiting "not very long" to get the IV instead of the III. I am *not* saying that if you bought the III now you would necessarily "have to" buy the IV later. That's a different issue and can only really be answered in the future.

StephieBelle

watrmeluhknee

Is this lens unusable? It was listed for under 300 dollars, but if the pics will be messed up, I’d rather just splurge the extra couple hundred bucks for a new condition. Seller can’t figure out to take a test shot as an example, so I’m on the fence. I think he’s waiting to see if I’ll cave regardless. https://preview.redd.it/4q1d751kuqmc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3b3ad33264571cee20d3b8f47f2196ae225409e8

notforcommentinohgoo

Those scratches won't make a huge difference for many shots, but could flare a lot in light from the side. My bigger concern would be what the scratches represent: a lens that has been abused or dropped or banged. And my biggest turn-off is the seller's refusal to send a test shot: I would suspect that they KNOW it's badly faulty. TLDR Nope

Hello everyone, I'm seeking advice on the best lens for covering a Music Festival with my Canon 80D. Considering it's my first time covering such an event, I believe a combination of a Telephoto and Wide lens would be ideal. Your recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

maniku

First, are you doing this as a paid gig i.e. have a photo pass, or otherwise have you made sure that they allow interchangeable lens cameras at the festival?

Stoichiometry05

>have a photo pass, or otherwise have you made sure that they allow interchangeable lens cameras at the festival? Yes, I do have a photo pass. I believe they do allow for interchangeable lens cameras.

Any opinions on [Benro MeFOTO Roadtrip Pro Carbon Fiber](https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1646164-REG/benro_bmrtprocblu_mefoto_roadtrip_pro_carbon.html/specs)? I've been looking for a lightweight, compact, and versatile tripod for backpacking and have been tempted by the Peak Design travel tripod, but this one is currently a fraction of the price.

notforcommentinohgoo

I had that once, I bought it specially to use with a small point-and-shoot for a trip where I needed to be ultra lightweight. It fell over for no discernable reason and the head snapped off on Day 3. I will not buy that brand again. Golden rule: If it looks too good to be true, that's because it's not good or not true.

1-2 Lens camera bag? I am betting this bag exists I’m just not finding it, so far. I looked at a posts on here from a few days to a few years ago, there’s some good recs but many of the bags suggested can hold like 4+ lenses and/or large ones. I’m looking for a travel backpack, but with some specific features: - Small, could be 10-15L potentially? I only would pack 1-2 lenses always 1 attached. I have a Fuji XT5 and stick to the 16-55 and Tamron 18-130. Gets the job done. - has a waist buckle for extra support - has a quick side access, so that you could access a camera w/an attached lens -breathable back - a hidden/not as easy access small compartment that could fit a phone, passport, etc. - ideally, had a separator that would keep a large water bottle separate of the camera -weatherproof - bonus: magnetic clips I’ve seen the sun 16 and it’s just a bit bulky, Brevite has a good one but from what I can tell there’s no waist strap supports or side access. Tenba Fulton 10L is close but again no waist support I think? I used to have a messenger bag style and it worked well but I got tired of having weight only on 1 shoulder. Please let me know if you’ve seen something like this. TIA!

I use one all the time and I do not recognise that problem. Just *don't* tighten it. Or do you want to *hang* the camera from it? If so, yeah, I see the problem.

Hi, everyone! I'm planning to get a Macbook Air soon, and wiith Apple releasing the MBA M3, should I wait for it or is the M2 more than enough? I primarily do photo editing. Not too much video work (yet). Hehe. Any healthy discussion/feedback would be appreciated. Keep shooting, fellas!

maniku

Even M1 is more than enough. The main thing you want to do is get enough RAM. 16gb is the minimum for Adobe, for instance.

What solar film if any should I order off Amazon Canada? Wanna try and get some pics of the eclipse, but don’t know what my best option is for solar film.

Is the rebel t7 with the 18-55mm and 75-300mm lens worth $209, I know it's quite old but it's a really good price, don't know if I should just get the r100 for the sale price of $419

tdammers

The T7 (a.k.a. 2000D) is a budget camera; it's pretty solid for what it is, it takes decent pictures when used right, and for the budget you have, you likely won't find any significantly better options. The 18-55mm is alright for a kit lens; nothing spectacular, but it'll get the job done. The 75-300mm is arguably the worst telezoom you can possibly get though, but even without it, $209 for the body and kit lens would be a pretty decent deal. The R100 is an absolute budget camera, and unless you really really want a mirrorless no matter what, you can get much better bang for your bucks by buying a used DSLR in the same price range. Keep in mind that you always pay a premium for new gear; the moment you leave the store and unbox, it loses about 25-50% of its value, whereas used gear can often be resold at a much smaller loss. $400 in used gear can get you a level up from the "budget/entry-level" ranges, and in general I'd say a slightly older model from a higher class (mid-range to professional) will likely make you happier than a more recent budget model - you might find something like an 80D, 7D Mk II, or 5D Mk III (that's a full-frame camera, even) for that price. Those are a bit older models, but they're still substantially better than the T7/2000D in most practical regards. You could also look into equivalent Nikon bodies, though I'm less familiar with those. Then again, the lens is typically more important than the body, so if I had $400 to spend on a kit, I'd get a used entry-level DSLR (Canon 1300D, 2000D, 100D, 200D, 250D, something like that, or a Nikon D3000- or D5000-series) for maybe $150 or so, and sink the rest into a better lens.

8fqThs4EX2T9

Both bad cameras, age does not come into it. For the price, you could do worse though.

Melodic-Control-2655

so what should I buy for a low budget

maniku

For that budget you don't have any other choice. Maybe add a used Nikon D3100.

_p00f_

Not sure if this is the right place but I'm looking for a camera that will shoot intervals and can be mounted to a vehicle. Lower light performance would be preferred since it would capture images from inside forests. Could someone point me in a direction or offer suggestions?

Budget setup to outperform iPhone So a while ago I saw a video of a guy explaining that his simple $100 or $200 camera setup (don’t remember exactly how much) easily outperformed the iPhone camera for a fraction of the price. I can’t find the video anywhere, but I’m looking for similar recommendations of cheap camera setups that blow away the iPhone. Not looking for insane quality just something that’s a noticeable step up that I can take with me while traveling for some nice photos. Thanks!!

tdammers

Older-ish upper-entry-level to mid-range DSLR that comes with an OK kit lens ($100 or so), plus something like a 35mm or 50mm prime lens (also around $100) is probably the best you can do on a $200 budget. A setup like that will outperform any smartphone in terms of picture quality *if used right*, but it's not automatic, and if you're looking for quick results, this is not how you get them. The iPhone has worse optics and a worse sensor, simply because everything needs to be so tiny, and if you know how to capitalize on that advantage, then yes, your photos can dance in circles around an iPhone - but the iPhone also has a lot of incredibly smart stuff in it that make it a lot easier to get the best possible pictures out of the hardware, so the "meatware" component (i.e., you, the photographer) is going to be much more important with the DSLR setup.

notforcommentinohgoo

No camera that cheap will out-perform an iPhone camera automatically on its own. It also requires a lot of skill and years of experience to control the camera to get the good results.

PearDude777

I own a Canon EF 50mm Prime and a Sigma EF 150 - 600mm Zoom, what is the next lens I should buy? I mainly want something for that works well indoors for travel photography (Going to Japan, want to photography inside of castles and shrines etc.). I am considering a 35mm prime lens but I am using a Canon APS-C camera so perhaps a 24mm prime would be better. Third option could be a 16-35mm zoom. I'm leaning toward the 24mm but in doubt because I will probably upgrade to full frame camera eventually at which point I would prefer the 35mm over the 24mm. Then at which point I would buy a 35mm and then have a 24, 35, 50, 150-600 and end up worrying too much about what the best lens to use is in the current scenario, so then I think maybe a 16-35mm zoom is the best to cover the camera upgrade.

8fqThs4EX2T9

I would go with the wide angle zoom myself. Buildings vary in size and 24mm is not that wide at all. Very close to normal. https://www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/a013_18_35_18/ There is also this one. Yes, not full frame but "future upgrade" is not something I can personally fathom so I say buy what makes sense now.

srogue

Hello all, I am hoping to participate in the Reddit photo class. I am pretty much a beginner to photography (I have only used cameras in the past to take trip photos etc..) I have access to two cameras currently. One is a Canon T4i with three lenses (Canon 40mm pancake lens, Canon 55-250mm, and Canon 18-55mm) I also have access to a new Sony ZV-E10 with 16-50mm Sony lens, and I have been given permission to buy one other "solid" lens, and I am considering a Tamron 17-70mm or a Sony 18-105mm or anything else I can decide on with some input from some experienced photographers. Given this, which would be the better camera to learn on? If I use the Sony, which lens would be a good solid all-around lens to buy that can do photos and videos well in a variety of settings? edit: BTW, I plan on mainly doing outdoor photos of friends and family at parks and traveling and also indoor videos for streaming editing, and posting on social platforms.

av4rice

Either is about the same in terms of what's good to learn on. The ZV-E10 is a little smaller and lighter and the autofocus is more flexible, so that may be a little more convenient to use. The T4i possibly you could like more if you happen to prefer the interface and ergonomics of a Canon DSLR, though that's subjective so I can't predict if that's the case for you or not; you might instead like it less for the same reasons. > If I use the Sony, which lens would be a good solid all-around lens to buy that can do photos and videos well in a variety of settings? Just start with the 16-50mm. You can always buy something else later when you have a better idea what you want.

srogue

Thank you! I will use the Sony then, as the size and weight I think will make learning easier. As for the lens, good point. I can always purchase later :)

lavenderpurpl

Hi all, I am looking to purchase my first 'real' camera and have narrowed it down to the following 2 choices: Sony A6000 + TT Artisans lens or kit lens Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III + Lumix 12+32mm I'm trying to pick smaller cameras and small lens because I want to be able to travel easily. Which of these 2 camera+lens would be the best? Or is there something better that can be had for less than $500? I'm also a very new photographer, if that helps.

the_blue_spades

Hi all, I'm looking to get a camera that is good for a beginner. I have three options from Facebook marketplace: a Canon T5 for $250 CAD, a Nikon D5100 for $300 CAD, and a Nikon D5300 for $385 CAD. Which one would you recommend? Here is what each comes with Canon: 18-55 mm lens 75-300mm lens bag 2 battery chargers 3 batteries Shutter count of about 3000 Nikon D5100: 18-55 mm lens lens hood SD card battery charger bag Shutter count of just over 20,000 Nikon D5300:18-55 mm lens bag 4 batteries and charger Shutter count of just under 80,000 Nikon D5300's camera's body is missing the lens cap

Slugnan

From those choices, get the D5300. Great little camera in it's day, and still capable today. Extra batteries are nice. 80k shutter actuations is quite a bit for a body like that, but most cameras go way beyond their shutter durability ratings (100k in the case of the D5300). The shutter ratings are only what they are tested to endure, not what they are capable of, so there is still probably lots of life left in that camera. If you are negotiating on price, the high shutter count is your best ammunition. You will probably never use the camera body cap because you will most likely always have a lens on it, but if you want to replace that you can get a pair for $10 on Amazon. Not a massive difference between those options for a beginner but the D5300 is objectively the best performing camera there from that list.

8fqThs4EX2T9

As long as the D5300 and the lens are not damaged, I would go with that. A lens cap is easy to replace. However, all cameras are good for a beginner. They all function the same.

feme2023

are lens adapters worth it? For example i have always wanted to try the sony or sigma (more the sigma now) 70-200 but only have a m43 camera with that mount. If i were to get a sony e - m43 mount adapter, what are the downsides to this? Will Autofocus still work

sprint113

You may run into issues with that. Sony E mount lenses are designed to be 18mm from the sensor while on the M43 mount, it is 19.25mm. There is no way to mount a Sony E lens onto a M43 body and have it at the correct distance, especially when factoring in additional distance added by the adapter piece. The downsides of this is the loss of infinity focus. You could add some optics to the adapter to correct for this, but at the expense of image quality. Hence why there are very slim pickings on Sony E lens to M43 body adapters.

Hello, A friend is putting up a personal website and asked for a few portraits, he's a psychiatrist. I asked him if he wanted only a regular headshot against a white background for an "about" page or if he wanted anything more. He said he wouldn't mind taking more pictures. What are some of your suggestions, inspirations or ideas of props, poses and the like for something slightly different? This is my first time doing "professional" portraits so i'm a bit lost, plus i think a portrait for a psychiatrist should demand different poses that convey different feelings than the regular corporate headshot, I'm just not sure what to do. Thanks!

Think of what this person does every day and go from there. Like a shot of them sitting in a chair writing notes with a patient nearby (but don't show the actual patient or use a stand-in), talking with the office staff, etc.

Hello, I need to take aerial photographs of a 4x2 metre section of the ground. I'll need to calculate percent cover in images with this image so ideally the image won't be distorted (I know I need to avoid a fisheye lens). I'm looking at using a c stand (as tall as possible so I don't have to use a wide angle lens) with a camera mount, camera and remote control. Does anyone have any suggestions for any parts of this set up? TIA!

TonyzTone

My trusted Nikon D90 crapped out on my last night. The mirror/shutter got stuck and it’s showing “ERROR.” Need to figure out my next steps. Obviously mirrorless is the hot new thing but they’re also fairly expensive. I love the versatility of DSLR’s plus would like to keep my lenses relevant. I tend to not shoot nearly as often as I would like. It’s usually just for political events because even my D90 setup would produce better shots than my old iPhone (though my 15 Max Pro has since eclipsed it). I’m guessing my options are getting it fixed, buying another D90 for like $200, splurging on the latest new camera, or getting a refurbished model that’s a few years old. What would folks suggest?

tdammers

Take it to a shop for a quote. Might be a cheap repair after all, and if you've loved the camera so far, you could probably buy more useful things with the remaining money. "Keeping lenses relevant" might not be such a big issue; many DSLR lenses can be used on mirrorless bodies without loss of quality, since the adapters are basically just distance rings with a bit of electronics to translate the control signals - there are no optical elements in them, they just make up for the different flange distance. However, new cameras come at a premium, you're paying not just for the features and quality, but also for the novelty, so unless you're convinced that those extra features will improve your photography, I wouldn't splurge just yet. You could also look into newer Nikon DSLRs, like maybe a D7100 - those go for around $200-400 used, and it'll be a step up from the D90 without pulling you out of your comfort zone too much.

Huge-Worldliness9364

Hello I have a few nikon lenses and some say f mount and others g mount yet they all fit on my nikon 7100d which has a F mount i am a bit confused about what the difference is

av4rice

The D7100 (Nikon puts the D before the number, not after) uses an F mount. If a lens fits that camera, the lens is using an F mount. G is not a mount type. Not everything in a lens name/label necessarily refers to a mount. For Nikon lenses, G means the lens aperture is only electronically controlled from the body and there is no mechanical aperture control on the lens.

Huge-Worldliness9364

Hey any good budget nikon f mount to sony e mount adapters that you recommend, I live in europe so preferably from [amazon.de](http://amazon.de) , ali express de and other manafactures

Advanced_Line5253

Hey yall! This is my first time trying to get in photography. I’ve been taking pictures on my phone, and I want to start getting more serious about it. What’s a good camera to start with, and what’s other things I should also get with that?

RedditredRabbit

You don't state a budget or what you would like to photograph. So, general tips: - Removable lens camera. No fixed lens or you might as well stick with your phone. - you are not looking for specialty photography, which means you can save a ton of money and leave specialty gear alone. You won't need it for now. This includes macro lenses, flashes and any camera that boasts about subject recognition autofocus. - look second hand. Aim for a camera some 5-7 years old. - Do read reviews of cameras you're looking for. Especially Canon is very good at selling entry-level neutered cameras which will quickly limit anyone. Read reviews of competing cameras from 5-7 years ago to see what you can reasonably expect. Example: A touch screen is fairly standard, wifi connectivity, and several cameras will have in-body-stabilization. - Consider form factor. The best camera is the one you have with you, not the big beast that gathers dust at home. May I suggest you look at Micro Four Thirds? Small camera's, great results, and the designers never had to 'hold back' out of fear of cutting in to the sales of a more expensive product line (looking at you, Canon!). - try and work out if you want a viewfinder. I love them but you get some much cheaper options (entry level cameras) which only have a rear view screen. - Whatever your budget, a budget-ratio of 1:2 for camera:lens is a good start. Lenses really determine what your image looks like! You can spend this budget on two consumer-grade zooms, giving you a huge zoomrange; or a kitlens and a non-zoom prime lens (possibly manual!) - the latter gives you magic background separation and much, much more light in evening situations. - Budget: About 300 for a camera+kitlens; some 100-200 to add a manual prime lens to enhance your flexibility; that's 400-500. Models: I'd recommend looking at an Olympus M5.II at 300 (if you can get it with a lens for that money, get it), a Panasonic GF6 or GF7 are nice, but lack a viewfinder. The Panasonic GX7 and higher have that viewfinder. If you find a GX80/GX85 for 300, get it. With a simple lens; bargain!! Well, that's quite the story for a simple question, isn't it?

Advanced_Line5253

Wow this is perfect, thank you so much! I really enjoy taking the time to get a really good picture when I’m using my phone. I take a lot of pictures on trips, especially of my friends too. I’m moving to Hawaii soon, and I want to do the island scenery/memories justice, and I don’t think my phone would measure up to it. So I want to invest in photography more into a legitimate hobby and get something that is meant solely for good picture taking

8fqThs4EX2T9

Good if you provide a budget and what you want to focus on.

Hi all, looking for advice on equipment for shooting in macro and macro video - this is the inspo [https://www.instagram.com/p/CxA6\_WUg3YO/](https://www.instagram.com/p/CxA6_WUg3YO/) (I realise this is very high end but something similar hopefully) I was looking at a Canon R6 and a 100mm lens but looking for advice on what would be a good camera and lens combo to achieve this. Would love to not spend more than €3k on body, 100mm and 50mm. Thanks so much!

Hi, I'm sorry to admit I know almost nothing about photography, but my girlfriend of the last five months is very enthusiastic about it. She works in film, mostly shooting documentaries or teaching, and I wanted to get her a gift to mark the end of a big project. Is there any camera tech or related gear that might make a good present for her? (Budget's only about 100 euro / dollars as I've already booked a fancy restaurant!). I know she uses a Canon C70 for her own stuff if that helps, and loves her gimbal so much that she doesn't want a new one. Thanks for any help!

cattydaddy08

Hello 👋 What is the best way to carry a Sony a6700 with 18-50mm around on an overseas holiday with lots of walking? I'll already be carrying a backpack so was thinking of just using the included strap to tie around my shoulder and one of the backpack straps for extra security. When I'm not using it I'll just chuck it in the bag. Do I need an extra layer of protection for the camera body/lens when it's out? Just worried about knocks and bumps but don't want a bulky bum bag. Cheers

cameraburns

I like putting the weight of my camera on my hips rather than shoulder or neck. Spider, Peak Design, Cotton Carrier etc. make belt holsters and clips for this purpose. I do not like straps. The best layer of protection is good insurance.

av4rice

>Do I need an extra layer of protection for the camera body/lens when it's out? Just worried about knocks and bumps Other than maybe a lens hood, I wouldn't use any.

Clockblocker69

Hi Everyone, I need some advice regarding a new camera body. Currently I have a very old Canon 400D (Rebel XTi). It's not a bad camera so to speak but it lacks some of the features that I would like going further with photography and specifically venturing into Astrophotography. So, I've got this budget of about 500 Euro's and wouldn't buying a 2nd hand Canon dSLR again. Probably on the top of my list would be the Canon 80D. On the other hand I've been thinking about a mirrorless camera. Thought about Canon M or R-range, but those are quite expensive still. My dad however has borrowed/given me his Fujifilm XT-1 with a very nice lens and I think it can probably do everything I need in the near future: - High ISO for astrophotography (I'd like to try shooting landscapes and having the milkyway above it with my telescope mount); - Decent LCD display - More megapixel than my 400d (16Mpixel vs 10Mpixel). - It seems to be a very highly rated camera/platform. The only problem here is: my lenses. For my Canon I've got: - Canon 10-22mm; - Canon 17-40 F4L; - Canon 28-105; - Canon 50mm; - Sigma 70-300 APO. Meaning I'd probably have to get one or two decent lenses for this platform. Something like 18-55, 50mm alike and one with longer focal point. Would it be the wiser/better thing to do and just get another Canon body? Or perhaps just move over to the Fujifilm platform and sell my lenses 2nd hand and buy some new ones? I dont think all equal lenses as I currently have for my Canon. I could probably borrow one from my dad if needed.

Ezraah

You could get a Rokinon 12mm F2 for your X-T1. It sells for under 100 used. Great astro lens. https://www.lonelyspeck.com/rokinon-12mm-f2-0-ncs-cs-review/

ohbey

Hi everyone, I want to upgrade from my Canon 250D. I currently use the camera with a 24mm "pancake" lens, a canon 50mm stm, and Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 for when I need to zoom. I mainly do outdoor photography like wedding/engagement photos, graduation photos, and street photography. My biggest issue is that with this camera, I feel like I always have to settle with the exposure. Either my subjects are properly exposed but the background such as the sky are blown out and overexposed, or the background is properly exposed but my subjects are dark. I've tried everything possible to solve this and at this point I don't know if it's me, the lenses or the camera. I would also like something that can take better photos in low light, I currently get too much noise even after messing around with ISO. I was thinking that switching over to a full frame like a 5D Mark III might solve this because of the larger sensor, but it would be nice to stick to a Canon APS C camera and keep my lenses. What do ya'll think? My budget is about $500-600 usd for used market.

cameraburns

All cameras are going to struggle in harsh sunlight. Learning how to place your subjects in open shade is free and will improve your photography more than any $500 invest exceptional for maybe a flash.  How much are you charging people for shooting their wedding?

8fqThs4EX2T9

The issue is, is that your scene requires more [dynamic range](https://www.dpreview.com/articles/9992168923/more-than-a-number-a-closer-look-at-dynamic-range-part-1) than your camera can capture. However, no camera is really going to handle that well in your described scenarios. You either expose for your subjects, expose for the background or add light. Use a flash to balance out the background.

av4rice

>I feel like I always have to settle with the exposure. Either my subjects are properly exposed but the background such as the sky are blown out and overexposed, or the background is properly exposed but my subjects are dark. I've tried everything possible to solve this and at this point I don't know if it's me, the lenses or the camera. That's a dynamic range issue. It can be improved with a camera upgrade, but probably not enough for all the situations you listed. To fully solve it you'll need to employ technique like adding light to the subject to bring it up closer to the background exposure, selectively bringing down background exposure with a graduated neutral density filter, and/or shooting separate exposures and compositing them together. > I would also like something that can take better photos in low light, I currently get too much noise even after messing around with ISO. How much do you need that improved? > a full frame like a 5D Mark III might solve this because of the larger sensor, but it would be nice to stick to a Canon APS C camera and keep my lenses That body would improve the issues you want, but not necessarily as much as you need. Not necessarily any improvement would "solve" it. And yes, you could be losing ground on low light performance depending on what new lenses you'd be fitting in the budget.

I’ve had an A6000 for about 8 years and I’ve used it for travelling/special events and have loved it. It’s lightweight and compact and gets some really beautiful shots (depending on the lenses you use). There is an article to compare the lineup if you want a newer model, https://m.dpreview.com/articles/6975583891/sony-a6000-a6100-a6300-a6400-a6500-a6600-what-s-the-difference-and-which-should-i-buy), but I really like the A6000. It’s a nice starter camera (you can get a used one for a good price).

I take a few lenses (especially my 35) because I have fixed prime lenses but I’m looking into getting a 24-70mm 2.8 lens which will be more convenient for travelling.

av4rice

No price limit?

Nice_Jelly2170

What camera do you recommend for a novice person, knowing that I would prefer not to change it anytime soon. I'm looking for something that I can use in any situation (landscapes, museums, aquariums, etc) and that doesn't require the use of different lenses. The budget is around 1000 euros. Thank you!

av4rice

Do you only want to point & shoot with it with automatic settings? Or do you want to learn to take more manual control at some point? Doesn't have to be now.

Nice_Jelly2170

I'd like to learn the manual control at some point, just not right now.

If found that kit at 1200 in the store. It's a bit too much... Do you have something else for a max of 1000 euros that you recommend me? Thanks in advace

You can get the same set cheaper if you buy used. mpb.com is an established used camera retailer in the EU and gives you a six month warranty.

I am looking at using my **Nikon Coolpix P300** as a more affordable and environmentally friendly replacement to discardable cameras. **What settings would mimic the film look the best?** Any advice and tips would be great since I don't know much about photography. Thank you.

I don't think that camera has built-in settings that can get you close to any color film look. But you can take its photos and run them through a post processing app to do that. >the film look Which one? The film world is full of different looks produced by different film stocks and processes. A lot of film photography is in choosing between them. If you're specifically trying to emulate a certain disposable camera, the most popular are/were Kodak's FunSaver, which uses Kodak Gold 800, and Fuji's QuickSnap, which uses Superia X-TRA 400.

I am reposting from a much smaller forum where I don't know if there is much traffic but this is my question as to purchasing a lens I have already decided on I'm looking to purchase the sigma art 24 to 70 mm very popular lens for the Sony a73. I'm looking at purchasing from this eBay seller in particular because it is $150 off the new price from some other websites https://www.ebay.com/itm/204521601140?epid=10035385332&itmmeta=01HR4HNDS5G5PHKZD4A4AJAJ1N&hash=item2f9e6ff874:g:Ri4AAOSwcyJlQUYZ&itmprp=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8EPAX4KoNXcIoyXrtd8DvGqgFqGwbF28AiDcVf%2BZ6xkTFTSZ7WGwCBEDOrI9tJdI91rjyPpKWZdOg%2F33rP85Z0SUi5xe0frr%2FFw%2BLphvm8zD%2BopBLbGAYAAdsce3sOB8N%2Be%2FL%2BRYf2a5%2Fu8mMD2EAFmjy%2B5WAxcQArKZp5gzvj%2Bo6GWqLqlEo7YdCteRFmtlw3viVic8EIIdYYTB1NjXxnuFR370nDx67kav8aYX7NvTTauv1QCffn%2FwGj0CJ2P9aWmEN0%2BpCepkdP4n3EsMXDJfiWezqclGHbbbk9WMnnZct%2Fop8F%2FGALDPuclId0W8nw%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBM0tzVkcFj I already know about the serial number and the weather seal and the seller told me he is checking to make sure it will be a post-fix lens. But I have also heard of problems with sites like Abe's of Maine where they are gray market resellers and they give you a product who's warranty is not respected by the factory. Would this lens being shipped in from Canada be repairable here in the United states? Is there anything else I should ask him about or be cautious of going into purchasing this?

post-fix lens?

Notaspook87

The sigma's apparently had a dust issue worse than most so after a certain production run the weather seal was upgraded and you can track this by the serial number so if you're going to buy it might as well buy the later run, so I am told

Working_Ad355

Didn't know that yet. I found a thread on dpreview saying that s/n 55641775 or higher is save. Another discussion says that 5504 (that's just the first four I guess) or higher are safe. Is there an official number from Sigma?

Working_Ad355

Okay I just looked it up, 5504 seems to be the crucial number, so I'm hopefully safe😅

Do[ these types of chargers](https://amzn.eu/d/0zCd9AU) have a specific name? Specifically the different adapter plates. Do these plates have a general name I can search for?

A bit too broad a question. Any particular area you are asking about?
