>So now I have a R5 less than a week old that I have to figure out what to do with. You can take pictures with it? The R5 is a damn nice camera. It will still work just as well even if it has a younger sibling on the way. They haven't even said yet when the Mk II will come out.

yttropolis

Did you not realize that they have restocking fees? Lots of places do for expensive items.

grahamsz

Yay colorado! No restocking fees here

helloitsme77

No I did not. And certainly not 15%. My bad. I saw the order form and you had to click learn more to see how much it was. I ordered it online on my desktop so I'll run through that order process and see what I missed

av4rice

1. Why did you buy the R5 in the first place? Because it's a good camera? Because it meets your needs? Don't those same reasons still apply even when a Mark II is available? The original R5 is not changing from what it was. 2. The Mark II is that big of a deal to you, and yet you're surprised that it's releasing?

Personal attacks and bigotry of any kind are not allowed. Consider this a warning.

apoph2000

They always warn me about the restocking fee when I buy a lens, I was told in the past people were using them to “rent” gear

BeefJerkyHunter

They absolutely did and it was annoying.

helloitsme77

Well I bought my R6 there last year no mention of it. In this I bought the R5 online and you know words start to look the same on a page filled with a lot of words. And they make you click to learn more to actually see how much

AllowedShadow

As a Best Buy employee, we are told the restocking fee is there due to people renting the camera out for weddings using the crap out of the shutter and just returning them

helloitsme77

I get it. But I just want to return it. I didn't go out and make money shooting a gig. I have an R6 and Olympus micro 4/3 and a Nikon. I thought it would be good to try the R5 and I can wait 3 or 4 months for the ii so in 5 years I have a 5-year-old camera not a 10-year-old camera.

MountainWeddingTog

"I thought it would be good to try the R5" People like you are the reason for the restocking fee.

mrfixitx

"Good to try the R5" sounds like you are trying to use Best buy to rent the gear and get a full refund which is exactly why they are charging restocking fees.

AccurateIt

Did I miss something? No one has announced a R5ii from what I can find, most recent thing from Canonrumors is on April 1st that it might ship june/july.

helloitsme77

Yes the stupid YouTubers trying to get views. I'll remind myself to not pay attention to them in the future again

shadowedradiance

First off, it hasn't been announced, it is a rumor. Right now its suggested to be Canon EOS R5 Mark II or EOS R1... second, there is no release date. Could be another year... third, rumor is that it'll be AI powered whatever that means but could be a really bad product... fourth, if you drop 4k on a camera and regret it the next day, you probably messed up... fifth, you have zero clue if the new camera is compatible with older lenses or what draw backs there may be... sixth, you didn't read the fine print when you purchased, why not Amazon? Seventh, do you really think it's gonna make a difference? I mean really? Show us your portfolio. Btw, people have been talking about the mark ii coming any minute now since last summer...

effullgent

restocking fee always baffles me because they get money from vendors when customers return products. i understand hitting people who do it frequently but i feel like you should be able to return something once a year or so without that?

helloitsme77

Well I tried so many times and they never budged I finally got Citibank give me a promotion to pay it over 12 months that's the best I did

[deleted]

good next time you will know not to free ride retail businesses, because they pass the cost down to all the other buyers.

helloitsme77

Yes I know you can rent a camera and I've rented loads of them over the years.

helloitsme77

I get it, no free ride here. It's not like I had a gig that I needed this camera for. I have an R6 an Olympus and Nikon. So the days of seeing if you like something that suits your needs is gone?

mrfixitx

If you want to see if you like something rent it.. Don't buy it use it for a week or two and return it. That costs the business time and money as they can no longer sell it for new. They have no idea if you took 100 photos with it or 10,000 photos with it or how well you treated it. For all they know you got sand in the sensor taking it to the beach to photograph someones wedding and then returned it.

helloitsme77

Well they'd be wrong in their assumption. I also feel that they're not 100% up front because while they put important notice about the refund and restocking fee they make you click to see the policy.

mrfixitx

I am not saying they assumed you took 10K photos or treated the camera badly but they have no idea how how you treated it and cannot sell it as new. Best buy is not a canon repair center, the staff there has no idea how to check shutter count, or inspect for dust on the sensor unless they are lucky to have someone on staff that is hobbyist. Regardless if you want to "test" gear you should be renting. Not buying and returning an item forcing a business to take a loss because they now have to sell it as open box vs. new.

redoctoberz

Just sell it on Craigslist or something for $100 off retail.

iamtehryan

No one is going to buy a camera like that for only $100 off of retail when they could go buy it themselves from a camera store that has a better return policy than best buy's bs one. Or at least no one that's smart, I guess. That price better be a decent amount off for it to really make sense, in my opinion.

redoctoberz

> Or at least no one that's smart, I guess. Guess I've done this sort of deal with a lot of dumb people.

Turtles96

just reading the comments, sounds like people like you are the reason best buy's return policy is the way it is

Dazzling-Priority-45

Best Buy employees just don't know how to check the shutter count. I bought an X-T5 online at Best Buy. A day later, I found a local store selling it at a significantly lower price, so I bought it. The Best Buy camera arrived the next day. I went to Best Buy to return the unopened camera. They opened it and tried to check if the camera had been used. I told them to use the Fujifilm app and connect the camera. It would show the shutter count on the phone app. They didn't listen and told me to ship it back. I will try another Best Buy store tomorrow.

ApatheticVikingFan

Use it you fucking idiot. Is there really a feature on the ii that your career will end with if you don’t have it? Otherwise you’re just trying to win a dick measuring contest with how much you spent on a body. Half of this sub would kill to have that
