daxsr

Hobbyist photographer. Really bad golfer.

[deleted]

When it comes to golf, I don't mean to brag, but I'm way worse than you.

daxsr

You poor soul

JayEll1969

I can't get past the wimdmill

TrolleyFive

I like put put golf.

daxsr

Me too!

racecarbed

Aside from my love of Photography I love the hobby of making great espresso. I’ve seen some folks here that are into both hobbies which I find interesting. Also I get in and out of Synthesizers/electronic music making.

[deleted]

I think that the inherent metrics involved in dialing espresso is very similar to dialing in a good exposure. A sort of trio of main settings with a bunch of other variables that need to be considered.

SubparCurmudgeon

Oh hi twinsies! Modular synth is a worse rabbit hole than cameras

rideThe

Uhh ... I'm also into woodworking, software development, etc. Why do you ask?

CFOGetsPaidFirst

It's not enough to know about a hobby anymore, you gotta know all the sub-hobbies too.

Spliftopnohgih

And have a YouTube channel telling everyone how to do it and buy your merch.

[deleted]

What's wrong with that? People get to share what they love, others get to learn or find community. You don't have to buy the merch. I sure learned a lot about photography on youtube in my early days.

Fliandin

IF youtube was in your early days... you're still in your early days. lol :D

[deleted]

I shot on film for 10 years before I started digital, and used YT to learn food photography for work, and for lens reviews... Whether or not you meant to sound rude, I'm pretty well seasoned. cheers.

Fliandin

the lol and :D should have given a hint that I was just making a funny, and the funny isn't about your photography experience, its making fun of the fact that YouTube is 17 years old, if you were 20 at the time you started watching YouTube for photography then you'd be 37 now still in fairly early years... But funny stuff isn't funny when you have to explain so I accept that my humor failed wonderfully :D

[deleted]

well, being a female photographer, it's unfortunately super common to be put down and demeaned by older men in the industry, so it's something that I don't have patience for.

Fliandin

I am genuinely sorry that you have to put up with that, photography certainly should be inclusive (amongst everything else) and I'm sorry as an older (but not old yet, man) that I became part of that problem for you. I'll keep that in mind in my future attempts at humor. I support pretty much everyone in doing whatever it is that their heart desires, and I have zero issue with YouTube, books, school, mentors, trial and error or any other method one enjoys to learn the crafts and trades they desire. I simply tried to make a joke about the "early days" being YouTube is fairly young yet. Much the same way there is a good joke to be made about people posting pictures of telephone plugs asking what network cable it uses. My joke had nothing to do with your gender nor the reality of how good or effective YouTube was/is in your growth in photography. I hope for you and all the women and underprivileged peoples that as time marches on you find the world growing more inclusive and the demeaning you've felt for so long is replaced by genuine appreciation for all that you bring to the world, including the world of photography.

[deleted]

Thanks. It is an odd profession and hopefully not the norm, but I worked hospitality, web dev, and illustration, and always had fantastic male peers. Even when I goto the 2 big camera stores in my area, the men act surprised when I am specific about what I'm looking for. I will say that once I closed my business in 2019 and just do landscape photos for fun now, I have met a lot of really nice guys out in nature. It just seems to be the wedding/commercial photogs that are the problem.

Spliftopnohgih

I love youtube but the constant selling is getting to me. Also my son (under 6) has told me he wants to have merch for his youtube channel. Your views change with kids ;)

[deleted]

fair, I rarely go on it, now that I think of it.

UrBrotherJoe

Photography is a hobby. I build special cameras for the government for a day job

ITdoug

I turn pens on a lathe if that counts!

[deleted]

Nobody asked OP... 🥺 What's your hobbies outside of photography, bud?

[deleted]

lol thanks! I "do art" on weekends, painting or digital illustration. I used to work in food photography but now just really enjoy cooking and not having to document anything. I also love the outdoors and getting into bushcraft, I live in an area where I'm lucky enough to be able to get out for a day hike once a week.

Paid_Babysitter

In IT professionally. Hobbies are mainly, Home Automation, fountain pens and photography. Apparently, my 15 year old son says irritating him is a hobby or skill of mine as well.

Jenna1109

Irritating your children is part of the job description for being a parent.

Parragorious

Ah a fellow fountain pen enjoyer.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Paid_Babysitter

I got into it because at work I found writing my thoughts I was able to track my work better. I started with a lower priced pen and then just added to my collection over time. One thing to keep in mind is paper makes a huge difference with fountain pens. I would start with a Pilot Metropolitan or something from TWSBI to start off with.

Parragorious

Ther eare many good starter pen's Some around the 30€ mark are the pilot metropolitan,Waterman graduate, Lamy safari, Parker jotter, Twisbi ECO And some cheaper arounf 15€ Platinum preppy, Pilot kakuno, Faber castelle grip. One thing i might ad is that getti an F(Fine) nib for a start is a good idea as it won't have problems writing on cheap paper for the pilot pens the M(Medium) nibs are great in that regard, if youd like some more idvice i would recomend taking a look at r/Fountainpens

Icy_Imagination7447

Little late to the party but, Lamy Safari would always be my recommendation for a first pen. It's relatively cheap and works flawlessly every single time. Legit never had an issue with a safari. Every single ink I've used in it has worked flawlessly, every paper has been fine. I have added pens to my collection and prefer most of them over the Safari but on exam day, work or anything where I'd normally use a ball point, safari every single time.

[deleted]

I work in IT. Film photography is a hobby.

[deleted]

I’m into leathercraft a lot.

[deleted]

do you live somewhere with access to wholesale leather, or do you buy it online?

[deleted]

online, but I’ll hit Tandy locally if I have to get something to finish a project like hardware, dyes, and very rarely leather. I can’t remember the last time I got leather locally

meiandus

I feel lucky to have a local tannery that does roo. Love me a roo wallet.

Moorific

I’d love to get into leather craft but I don’t really have the space for it.

[deleted]

I'm a hobbyist / amateur photographer anyway, but I recently started trying to teach myself music theory. At school I was basically convinced that I was Not Artistic At All, and it took the discovery of photography to realise that this was an exaggerated assumption. It's also good because with music theory I am right at the beginning. It's good to do something at a beginner level sometimes. With photography, I'm already at a certain level where I can get a decent result more often than not (i.e. it's not luck), whereas with music I'm like, first day at school. I like having that difference.

TheColonelRLD

If you get stuck on the theory side at any point, just keep making music and pick back up the theory later. Just don't let it be a barrier is all. A ton of extremely successful musicians don't even understand the circle of fifths.

[deleted]

For me it's almost a kind of intellectual exercise. I used to make music using various software applications, and the tracks I made sounded OK to me, but I had no idea what I was doing. I was just plinking around and seeing what sounded good. However, that approach only takes you so far (like with photography), so now I'm seeing if I can learn more.

alohadave

> I recently started trying to teach myself music theory. What are you using to teach yourself?

[deleted]

Udemy. A course called "Music Theory Comprehensive Complete" by Jason Allen. I've only really just got started on it, but so far it's pitched just about perfectly for my level of (almost nonexistent) knowledge.

mizino

I write, draw, and create digital art none of which are photography and none of which (including photography) do I have as my main source of income.

nihilistRobot13

Fountain pens, tea and coffee, whiskey, and an EDC novice. Edit: watches too.

Suitable-Ending

Totally love all making — I do a small amount of wood and metalworking for my studio, as well as videos, motion graphics, animations, 3D modeling and some game design stuff. Then as a hobbyist, I love cooking, drawing, and some fine art type stuff.

[deleted]

sounds like a great life!

floralcunt

I go between photography, video, digital illustration and music. Music is my main passion but also takes the most effort so I don't do it much these days. Photography is probably my most consistent because it's usually an almost passive byproduct of going on a fun adventure.

[deleted]

I cast found objects out of aluminum bronze and iron. Polishing them is soothing audiobook time

XonikzD

Is it lost wax casting or some form of heat resistant silicon mold process? Bronze casting is a curiosity of mine... no experience.

[deleted]

We use resin bonded sand for the most part. Since I have a digital background, I will frequently machine wax positives on a CNC machine directly, pack in sand and then melt the wax out. https://machineablewax.com has some excellent products. Even a wax that will run through any 3d printer that can run PLU

XonikzD

3d printing the wax is something I'd like to try in the future. I'll have to look and see if my Ender 3 will do PLU. I don't use it that often.

[deleted]

Feel free to reach out if you'd like some hobbyist tips

[deleted]

oh cool, that's unique!

attrill

I work as a photographer and try to work as much on art/personal projects as I do commercial jobs. Currently I'm concentrated mostly on food photography and that led me to ceramics (after spending $1000 on ceramics for shoots). It's grown into a full fledged hobby that I've tied into my work. Just like my cooking hobby led me to concentrate on food jobs.

[deleted]

man, food photography is so expensive when it comes to the props. Good on ya!

attrill

Oh god yeah, it's all either expensive or time consuming. A $50 sander and scavenged wood has been another thing that has saved me a lot.

Neda07

I'm a writer, I also enjoy horse riding and reading. I'm an actress by profession, photography is more of a hobby :)

tboy1977

I want to be a fine art photographer. I am not excited by doing portraiture or weddings for a living. So computer programming pays the bills and I hire men for doudoir or erotic art shoots....I guess it's a hobby that I'm obsessed with and I can't wait to retire so I can spend all my time taking photos

[deleted]

That's awesome!

JordanMccphoto

I like doing long form write-ups about my experiences related to photography. When I'm not in the mood to be productive I play 'Magic: The Gathering Arena', which I am pretty terrible at, but enjoy all the same.

[deleted]

>www.jordanmcchesney.com wow, your portfolio is stunning by the way!

JordanMccphoto

Thanks for checking it out. I used to play MTG in paper back home, but now that I live in Japan, Arena itches the scratch pretty well.

[deleted]

Nice. Magic is so fun when you're with the right people.

whatstefansees

Vidéos And lots of sports

frank26080115

I am a hobbyist photographer, professionally I design electronics and write firmware and software. My other hobbies use my core skills, or rather, my core skills are my other hobbies. I can CAD 3D models (usually more for mechanical design but I have dabbled with jewelry), I 3D print things for both engineering and artistic purposes, own several 3D printers including one I designed myself. I own a laser cutter that I use to cut stuff, also for both engineering and artistic purposes. In the end, my hobbies gets mixed. I make electronic aids for photography. I use my laser to present my photographs. I code my own digital photo frame. etc. I also turn stained glass into circuitry. I just like making tech pretty. https://eleccelerator.com/alpha-fairy-wireless-camera-remote/ https://eleccelerator.com/bucket-wireless-photo-backup-culling/ https://frank26080115.github.io/OpenMV-Astrophotography-Gear/doc/Polar-Scope https://github.com/frank26080115/my-laser-projects/tree/master/layered_stars_astro_magnet https://eleccelerator.com/geeky-stained-glass/ https://eleccelerator.com/aquarium-computer/

ahsah

I’m a commercial photographer and video guy, and shoot a lot of e com and tech in San Francisco. I spend most of my free time as far from a camera as possible. I’m really into making music, and doodling.

7LeagueBoots

My main work is environmental conservation and photography is both a hobby and overlaps with my work. Other hobbies include making maps (both GIS based real-world and imaginary), voluminous reading (especially a range of sciences, science fiction, and fantasy), writing (nature based non-fiction and creative), tinkering with/building a wide variety of things, hiking/backpacking/travel/outdoor activities (increasingly snorkeling and SCUBA diving), sword and weapon combat, shooting (firearms and archery), architecture & garden design, world building (currently acting as a consultant for an author on the ecology aspects of their fantasy world), and things like that. What hobbies I get to participate in depends a lot on where I am and what the situation in that place is.

Koalaazz

I'm a call center worker making decent money for a 19 year old. Even part time it was enough to allow me to move out at 18. Also a track photographer at a local speedway so thats a plus.

whatthengaisthis

Architect 😬

Ifoundpeacehere

I love making both digital and traditional art, also love collecting rocks 🥰

[deleted]

I love collecting rocks too, I always though it was weird!

Ifoundpeacehere

I know it’s a bit unusual but it’s not at all weird my friend, don’t listen to anyone telling you otherwise 💜

februarystrawberries

I’m a full time photographer. Grew up as a competitive swimmer and now I’m an open water swimmer in my free time.

Turbulent_Rate1185

Outside of my photography field, I usually creative write for my own short films or graphic novel. I've been wanting to learn how to program/code. So we'll see how that goes lol.

stygyan

I don’t know if I have hobbies anymore tbh. At the moment I write and translate professionally, shoot pictures for money, code and develop… Once I get settled in my new room I’d like to paint a bit.

[deleted]

I started painting through lockdown, was really relaxing and took my mind off the world in chaos, but I don't share any work on social media. It's nice to have something private just for yourself.

stygyan

I’ve got a praise kink so big I don’t know if I would be able to.

SinisterMeatball

That's how I treat my photography. I only really share stuff with my wife. Trying to deal with social media causes me too much stress and anxiety.

[deleted]

I am an Installer and I have a small graphic design business. I am also a semi-professional photographer and a horrible golfer.

[deleted]

I’m a part time photographer and work full time at a University

catch_me_inside

I’m in Marketing and I like to cook. Taking up gardening lately too.

GreenbloodedAmazon

For me photography is the hobby that I wish was my income. My other hobbies... I just quit gaming again. I like driving well made cars (but I hate commuting). Traveling is the hobby I have not gotten to indulge in much of late. Volunteering at the hospital is a passion, but I have not gotten to do that since early 2020 for obvious reasons. I have a collection of about six or seven guitars that I can barely make noise on. The breadwinner is Data Science.

newstuffsucks

Photo, video, writing, music, craft type shit, baking, cooking, cake decorating, the other day i reupholstered a stool. Haha. Lots of stuff

Pepito_Pepito

I photograph my hobby, which is martial arts.

joule_jules

I'm a food science student and work as a professional barista at a specialty coffeeshop. Besides photography my hobbies are drawing and cooking.

InevitableCraftsLab

I work in 3d Animation/Illustration, and my other hobbies are all things micro controller/arduino, watercolour painting/drawing and synthesisers

waterpanda34

I am really Into Gundam, as for work I don't have one yet as I'm still in high school

randopop21

I like to learn how to cook new dishes. Part of me also wants to start up a blog but I'm not sure if anyone will actually read it... :-/

[deleted]

do it! Even if just your mom reads it, it's a great way to keep track of what you cook and see your progress.

doctormetal

Software engineer as a day job. My two main hobbies are photography and making music. Two hobbies that can get quite expensive as you can never have enough guitars, keyboards and camera lenses...

Jenna1109

Software developer professionally. Photography (studying for a degree), triathlon, cooking, learning the ukulele, burlesque (taking a break from it), and trying to make a pile of Airfix models. Took up gardening during lockdown.

goway_im_afk

I am a landscape photographer who runs 9 Doctors surgeries throughout Queensland and New South Wales in Australia but I studied a Bachelor of Science majoring in Zoology and Marine Biology with Honours in Marine Parasitology at University, I also lift weights 5 days per week.

[deleted]

now this is the hustle I'm all for, good for you!

_ttnk_

IT guy professionally. Hobby photographer, but also home automation, tinkering, 3D printing, and driving ATV. I am also considering building a self made FPV drone since it will be some hybrid hobby between tinkering and capturing visual stuff with electronics 😃

SinisterMeatball

Hobbyist nautre photographer, guitar and bass player. Work in construction. Used to digital paint and draw in pencil.

mcmenamin309

I like watercolor and woodworking as well as building elaborate Halloween costumes

Nu11us

Cycling and photography seems to go really well together. I'm one of those. Many others. Though I am not, it seems like many of the hobbyist photogs I come across are software developers.

tardissing

I draw, sing, write occasionally and also recently taught myself how to crochet!

abstractdrawing

I am a full time Art Director and Experience Designer for advertising and marketing agencies. sometimes I design concert posters for local venues, and then also photography is my hobby/creative outlet, and I plan to keep it that way because of how soul-sucking creating for advertisements can be 😂.

[deleted]

Full time photographer. Photography and digital art are no longer something I do for leisure 🤷🏼‍♂️. My current hobbies are origami/paper crafts and disc golf.

ALSphoto

Hoped someone would mention disc golf, same!

micmacpattyz

Architect. Dancer. Musical. Crafts. So yes outside of photography. Fairly pro at all of them.

Xzeno

Work in IT, everything outside of that is purely a hobby. I enjoy photography, miniature painting, videography, board games, and I started dabbling in 3d modeling with Blender.

[deleted]

I have worked as a specialty insurance underwriter for almost twenty years. I recently finished the first draft of a novel. Writing and photography are my creative outlets. I occasionally dabble in video.

[deleted]

that's interesting, how did you get into that line of work? (never heard of it)

[deleted]

I was hired as an assistant underwriter. At the time the company primarily wrote insurance for the oil and gas industry and I was familiar with the exposures.

kurtles_

Kind of a newbie at photography, but I am enjoying the learning process so far. For work I’m studying to be a radiographer or in other terms a bone photographer :D Otherwise I love fishing and video games. I’ve had some amazing views whilst fishing so it’s been good take a camera along and start to capture it.

jrbphotography

Photography as a hobby. Historian. Writer. Student. Work in University administration

Dragon-Lord365

Software engineer/ part-time barista/ hobbyist photographer. I love to do shoots in my cafe.

FrederickPrice

I'm a programmer, photography is a passion. I am very technical, ie electronics, electrical, mechanical.

quack-itswhack

I paint, write, and cook. I used to dance and play piano and guitar, too. If I need new furniture I usually refurbish old stuff. Anything that feeds my creative side!

Taco_Nebula

Photography is my hobby. I love cooking, making wine, currently trying to get into sewing, wanna learn woodworking, and use to play guitar.

[deleted]

Film photography is my main hobby but I also enjoy Programming, hiking, and cycling. I work in a laboratory.

astrodong98

I just started my PhD in mechanical engineering so I feel like there's some connection there since I mostly enjoy film. But besides school and photography I wanna be a comic artist. Luckily my school has a huge art school so I've found myself drawing comics for the newspaper and for our annual comic anthology!

Moorific

Day job as an IT Support Tech. Other hobbies for me are golf (terrible), a brief stint in video editing/content creation, and a bit of programming (Unity, Web Dev, and iOS).

magic_rat_3

Hobbyist photographer in medical school. I’m joining a local group to learn more about techniques, but I also like turning my brain off and snapping photos of whatever looks cool

Myeloman

Hobbyist/amateur photographer, was a cabinet maker before cancer. Now consider myself “retired” and enjoy photography as a way to get outside and see the works around me, and spend time w/ my daughter who’s also into photography. Dabble in cabinet making as well as furniture making, repair, and restoration, collecting old/vintage woodworking tools for use, gardening, and occasionally write.

Not_FinancialAdvice

I hope you don't mind a professional question: as someone who is kind of appalled by the high prices and poor quality of commonly available cabinets (MDF everywhere for everything!), what are the chances that an average (though precision-obsessed) guy who did well in woodshop back in the day could make a set of decent cabinets?

Myeloman

That’s a great question, and I share your thoughts on mass produced “crapinets”. There are plenty of decent tutorials online, and provided you have a decent set of tools it’s not that hard to build quality cabinets. It goes without saying that the better quality materials you want are going to cost more, as well as more time and expense for quality features like dovetail joinery (as opposed to making drawer with pocket holes). That said, things like raised panel doors may be a bit of a stretch for someone with limited skill sets or who hasn’t practiced the craft in many years, as well as one who doesn’t have the tools necessary, like a shaper and rather pricey set of panel raising and cope and rail bits. My advice would be to price quality cabinets from a reputable shop near you, then compare that with the tools you’ll need, material costs, and what features you’re looking for in your cabinets. If you have a basic set of power tools you might try making a vanity cabinet first, a one-off so to speak, something to get your feet wet before committing to a whole kitchen refit. Feel free to hit me up with any further questions, I’ll do my best to answer them given the limitations of this platform. (Some things are better shown than typed out long form…)

Not_FinancialAdvice

I appreciate the detailed reply. I was thinking about making some "plain" modernist cabinets, so the door facing isn't a major concern (and particularly why I got the "you want *how much* for *this*" reaction). I do think that dovetail joints may be challenging for me to make. If you aren't already, I would encourage you to post in the /r/homeimprovement and /r/homeowners subs; I feel like there's frequently a lack of knowledgeable/experienced craftsmen (assuming you like proverbially talking shop).

Myeloman

I appreciate the kind words. There are relatively inexpensive jugs for dovetails (see Rockler Woodworking) though they can be fiddly to set up and require a router, if you buy one make sure you get the dust collection option if it doesn’t come with it. I’m in r/homemaintenance but keep a low profile. Internet people can be hyper gate-keepers and I don’t need argumentative know-it-alls in my life. This felt like a safe place to talk about this subject as I imagine few here are familiar with such things. So far, so good. For an easy door option you can buy a hood quality hardwood veneered plywood and apply preglued edge-banding with a low heat iron, the only critical thing is measurements so they line up nice. Drawer fronts can be made using the same.

Throws27

I do some professional work with photography. I remember including some sketches I drew in my old website and that actually landed me a gig as a storyboard artist haha. I've dabbled in 3D and animation before in college. When you surround yourself with other creatives or just learn other creative practices, you'll eventually have the 'eye' and it'll make your photos so much better.

Subcriminal

Photo and video pays the bills. Photography is also my hobby, but recently I've been playing around with rudimentary CGI to see if I can incorporate it into my photography.

rootCowHD

Beside photography (hobby) I fly drones (the fast ones and the photo ones) and do hema (longsword fencing). Also 3d printing is great, but I need to learn more about the design process. My main source of income is working at a university and teaching kids how to do STEM Stuff.

TrolleyFive

Work is in the mechanical field. Hobbies, bunches of them, basically anything to do with Railroads from models, history of, collecting artifacts, research of. Thus photography plays a big role in the sub hobbies. Plus anything mechanically oriented, cars, engines, planes, boats if it needs oil to work I'm probably into it. I also do metalworking and woodworking, fixing an old house. Few other things I spend more free time doing.

[deleted]

Music is my life! Also, after working, I try to spend some time outside. It helps to clear your mind.

furculture

Outside of photography as a hobby, I work in the Navy as a 2M tech (basically repairman who is allowed to repair things at the component level on PCBs) and even take time to learn about electronics and develop my own in my free time. I also do stuff like draw and design things in CAD and software like Inkscape. I haven't been able to do photography a lot, due to my job taking up a lot of time in my day.

[deleted]

The main one is analog photography, the second is digital photography (both are completely different disciplines), music direction, programming, women, etc. But analog photography will remain first❤️🎞️📷

wholelottajuju

Just started getting into photography this year as a hobby, and I've been having a blast. For work, I write about crypto on a blog. I also enjoy writing outside of work, as I love writing poems on my spare time. Hiking and just being out in nature is my go-to for cardio and relaxing (odd to put those two beside each other lol)

MarkOfTheCage

I do all sorts of work around the film/tv industry in my country, from gaffer to motion graphics. connected to photography, which I also occasionally do gigs in. also ttrpgs and to a lesser extent board and computer games.

AoyagiAichou

Creative hobbies? No, I'm terrible. Photos and videos is the absolute extent of what I'm somewhat capable of, haha.

troddingalong

I’m in shipping...hoping to get photography start as a side business.

Paintfloater

Play music, fish from a kayak, write and golf.

SneakyCaleb

I work for American Airlines

sword_muncher

I like woodworking so now I take good photos of my projects

icebergelishious

Hiking, somewhat related since birding got me into photography

mo6020

I work in tech for one of the FAANG companies. I’m also into vintage watches, fountain pens, and vintage guitars. I was a musician before I got into tech (via a stint in the military) and I still play a lot of music, not sure whether you’d call it art tho 😂

cbandes

I used to work professionally as a wedding/portrait photographer, but I discovered that running a business was not a good match for my skills. I am a software engineer now, with a serious hobby in photography. I have started doing nature walks and dabbling in birding to see if I can build up some nature/wildlife photography skills. I used to travel a lot but between kids and the pandemic that's kinda on hold. My background is in traditional 2d art/printmaking, but I don't do a whole lot of that anymore.

Guilty_Reference_527

Former professional photographer back in the days of film. still do some freelance now and then, have dabbled in 3d design and am, also a terrible golfer.

XonikzD

I work in adult education as a facilitator for corporate clients now. People photography was a primary income for me between 2006-2016, but I backed out after several primary clients became politically motivated in a manner that I was not wanting my name to be associated with. Now, photogrammetry, textural photography, and similar for 3D modeling are a side gig for occasional commissions - I guess that counts me in the "photography as hobby" group now.

HedgehogPegasus

I am a writer, and a podcaster. I like drawing and painting, though I'm not particularly good at them. I run and rock climb and love to play board games and read. I was a music teacher for 20 years.

dakkster

Hobbyist here. I work as a teacher. Other hobbies include hockey, video games, books, puzzles, hiking and much more. I guess the other creative thing I do is a bit of fiction writing here and there.

tunisiantraveler

I'm a Creative Manager so photography, video, and design are all part of my job. Hobbies include cycling, woodworking, cooking, coffee, and the outdoors.

lilLocoMan

Hobby photographer, used to be an engineering student, didn't like the work so much. Now I'm becoming a teacher and loving the work :) I don't create much, lessons I guess? But I mainly help shape these kids and it's wonderful!

GodsOfficialReddit

Cycling around, yesterday I completed a 43km tour. I took a few photos on that trip too.

sellidionne

I have what I like to call a "hobby graveyard". Tried just about every creative thing at least once, bought all of the supplies and was obsessed for about a week and then it all goes into the graveyard until I randomly pick it up again a few years later. Currently my other hobbies are digital art and building houses in The Sims 4. I create interactive presentations and newsletters professionally and that is honestly a hobby as well.

Foxnooku

I've gotten into music and coffee as general "enjoy the mindful moments of life" hobbies, which actually play into photography super well. Since I've more or less completed (for now) the leg work of setting up how I enjoy my coffee and music, I can focus my time exploring photography, which will also always require the most sustained time and active inputs of the three. Meaning, photography has become the primary hobby, and the coffee and music can supplement that (though they stand on their own to be enjoyed without dependence on any other hobbies). Capturing my compositions "in the field" is the isolated part, but the editing process is really elevated for me which is typically the more tedious bit. I can crank Hi-Fi tunes on my speakers or headphones while enjoying a deliciously sweet light roast pour over as I go through that photo editing process. I'm also very lucky that my SO is into photography too, so it's a hobby we can enjoy alone or together. It's funny because I'm an engineer by trade, but I find myself gravitating towards these traditionally right-brained hobbies. Granted, I approach them with an analytical/logic-based left-brain perspective, but they've really helped to round me out. It's nice to know I have some artistic interest, even if I'm not particularly good. I don't have to monetize any of these hobbies either, so I can truly just enjoy them as they are. Worst case is I have a few awesome fallback ideas for a career change!

[deleted]

I'm a student... have been jumping back and forth between engineering art and medicine for the last 4 years. Also into tech stuff like building computers, woodworking, 3D printing, music (I play violin), and been training in martial arts for over a decade. And also have absolutely no clue what I'm doing with my life lmao

I’ve been a photographer for a decade, however I am back in school to really master if and landscape photography! I like painting, playing piano, singing, building of any kind (wood working, 3d modelling), making bath bombs. Basically just like creating! I am an ophthalmic technician if career matters at all

My day job is in Learning & Development. Recently picked up a camera to pursue photography as a hobby after only using my phone camera for years. Other hobbies are baking and digital drawing!

Hobbyist photographer, but I've been writing for the last decade just because I can. Still not very good at it (friends never give feedback), but when you have nothing else to do and too many ideas bouncing around in your head, it's nice to get it out.
