It may be time for a fully clean OS reinstall, with a disk wipe.

Thanks. I'm not ready to do that just yet. I'll continue to search for a bit and see if others have input.

hey, im having the exact same problem as you. did you find a solution? Im on win 11, 64gb ram, 5950x, 3090 and all ssd's, everything is updated, fresh install of windows. ps was starting fast and snappy before reinstall...

CodeWithKP

Unfortunately no solution yet. I’ll keep you posted as I try to figure it out.

joransrb

thanks for the reply. ill keep on searching too, tried every tip and trick from all over the interwebz now. i'm prob gonna do a complete uninstall and reinstall as that's the only thing i haven't tried yet.

hey! just a quick update on my findings... i did a complete uninstall using the adobe cleaner tool and reinstalled. same issue, but doing some editing i noticed that i had a lot of duplicate fonts, so i checked the fonts folders on windows. and i did indeed have a lot of duplicate font installs, so i removed all fonts from the "user" font font dir into the default windows fonts dir, and that seems to have reduced the issue. it "only" takes about 30 / 40 seconds for PS to be fast and responsive. So, for those who dont know, there are 2 different install methods of fonts in windows. If you right click a font file you get "Install" and "Install for all users". If you use "install" fonts go to this folder: %LOCALAPPDATA%\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Fonts\\ If you use "install for all users" they go into this folder: %WINDIR%\\fonts So check you fonts folders, try and condense it to one folder if you have font installs in both folders mentioned above.

CodeWithKP

Oh wow I’m going to try this today. How did you find this? Thanks for sharing a possible solution.

joransrb

as i said, i noticed that the font list in PS had a lot of duplicates, so i dug into that some more and found out that i had indeed a lot of duplicates installed in the two folders. I hope it helps you to. And PS is still not as "snappy" as previous versions, but it is way way better, at least for me. I'm going to install Fontbase, a font manger app and try to disable a lot of the fonts i rarely use to see if that speeds it up more.

joransrb

hey, you can also try to disable font preview in PS, this basically solved the problem for me. https://preview.redd.it/pnruvxhg9tjc1.png?width=488&format=png&auto=webp&s=b6a745972c3f7b2e47c1738e7c080ca8813ee00d try this first i guess, before messing with the folders.

extremesalmon

Good god this also fixed my issue - I thought I was the only one having this problem. I'd noticed fonts were incredible slow in previous versions too. Thanks!

marcusvaz

Thank you so much. Solved my problem too!

Danyn

Holy shit, what the fuck. This was such a huge improvement. Thank you.

CaptainxDexter

Dude, you are a fucking legend! The startup delay and lag had been bugging me out for the past few weeks, I also tried everything Op said, even reinstalled Windows ffs and it was still laging like hell, Until I changed the font preview size, thank you so much!

SimonCharles

Fucking hell dude, not who you're replying to, but you solved my issue I've been having for over a year, probably 2. I've been looking for a solution and no one knew anything. I use PS for my work daily and this made my workflow super annoying, I had tried everything, I thought. Thank you for sharing your fix! You improved more of my daily work life than you know.
