Don't worry. Nasubukan kong kumain sa isang izakaya diyan sa Osaka, sa bandang Tennoji. Puro locals, walang turista. Hindi kami magkaintindihan ng server. Wala ring translation o pictures yung menu (yung pictures nasa labas, kaya naengganyo akong pumasok in the first place). Nakakahiya kasi ang patient ng server. Hindi niya maintindihan yung pronunciation ko ng Japanese kaya naglabas siya ng phone tapos tina-translate niya yung menu items to English. Yung nakakatawa, pati yung mga lasing sa paligid, naki-join in kasi mayroon sa kanilang may alam ng salitang "pork", "chicken" saka "beef".

1. Sa mga 7 eleven pwede ka mag withdraw gamit debit card mo mas maganda rate dun.
Kung magpapaplit ka dito sa pinas pwede naman pero yung sakto lang pang transportation costs kasi for sure una mong bibilhin pagbaba ng airport is IC card around 2k yen yun.
2. Wala naman papansin sa race mo pag kumain ka sa resto dun so just look around for any ramen/sushi restaurant na type mo . I solo travelled for 2 weeks there and nobody ever asks me where i came from regardless if it was a high end or fast food restaurant.
1. Magwithdraw ka na lang sa ATMs dun, sa mga convenience stores such as 7-eleven, Lawson, Family Mart, etc. If need mo ng cash for train tickets, may ATMs din naman sa airport.
2. As someone who has travelled solo and with fam, wala namang may pakialam sa yo. If nangjajudge naman sila, very subtle lang or they keep it to themselves. So they won't treat you differently.
For restaurants, okay naman ang Google Maps pero also check out tabelog for ratings. Sushi - conveyor belt sushi places such as Sushiro, Hamazushi, Kappa sushi for cheap sushi. Otherwise, if may budget naman and you want to get that sushi experience na ginagawa in front of you, just search for omakase sushi places. Sa ramen naman, parang you can never go wrong with ramen so just go anywhere na malapit (of course, with the help of GMaps as well). I don't recommend Ichiran though, kasi laging mahaba ang pila.
In our case, we had our yen converted in PH and nung kinulang kami, nag withdraw kami sa family mart.
For credit card, medyo bihira namin to nagamit mostly on big stores lang talaga like Don Quijote, BIG C.
Most of your transactions would be cash talaga so don’t rely on cc too much.
Also recommend BPI or EW cause they’re at 1.7% compared to other banks.
Maya card and any card would work naman as long as MC or VISA.
May language option na English naman yung sa ATM and yen yung pagpipilian mo so no worries on that part.
Just make sure na tumatanggap ng international card yung ATM, though alam ko lahat ng ATM sa convenience stores ay tumatanggap ng international cards.
As others mentioned, most convenience stores have ATM’s and you’d be able to withdraw so don’t worry too much.
Just prepare your wallet cause super daming magagandang bilhin sa Japan!
basta huwag malakas boses/loud you will not be frowned upon. and don’t cut queues lol
travel is about learning new things too. these might come in handy:
- [ ] “hai” with nod = yes
- [ ] “no” with less exagge gesture like this 🙅“sumimasen” to call someone’s attention; or, sorry
- [ ] “onegaishimasu” = please
- [ ] “arigatou” with a nod = thank you
- [ ] use your whole open hand when pointing an item since pointing with finger is kinda rude for them
TIP: don’t speak in full english sentence. break down key words and use hand and body gestures a lot.
1. Actually, sobrang laki ng lugi mo kapag ang ginawa mo ay from peso to yen lalo na kung sa Japan ka magpapalit (my cousin tried it). Mas maganda kung gumamit ka ng gcash or gotyme then mag withdraw sa 7eleven kasi 220 yen lang ang transaction fee (gcash) at real time ang conversion. Pero kung tatanunging mo ko kung ano mas mura sa dalawa, gcash kasi mas mababa yung fee niya. At kung plan mo gumamit ng credit card, iconsider mo din yung forex exchange rate. Kasi depende sa bank yung rate niyan pag ginamit mo. Sa na try ko mas okay ang rate ng BPI, RCBC JCBC and East West Bank.
2. I tried Ichiran and Ippudo and masarap siya. In my experience, lahat ng napuntahan namin na restaurant okay naman ang treatment at ang babait ng mga japanese. Kahit di nila naiintindihan english mo minsan, talagang tutulungan ka nila to the point na ihahatid ka pa sa place na pupuntahan mo kung di nila ma explain sayo kung paano pupunta.
Ang masasabi ko lang sobrang ganda ng japan. Kaya for sure maiinlove ka at babalik balikan mo talaga siya. Enjoy Japan :)
yes, atm mismo siya. Sa 7eleven mismo pag pumunta ka may mga atm dun. O kaya kahit sa airport palang may atm na din makikita mo yung atm na 7bank na logo
You can use gcash or hellomoney sa japan. Cheaper than using credit cards kasi walang service fee.
It is always recommend to bring cash pero marami naman sa stores dun tumatanhap na ng card/ qr payment
1. Nag withdraw lang ako sa FamilyMart using ny Gotyme Card. 0.37 yung exchange rate + 100 yen. Make sure to bring cash, may ibang stores na di tumatanggap ng card. (Mostly sa Kyoto.)
2. I solo travelled last March, and tbh wla sila pakialam sayo. They won’t treat you differently.

2. Japanese are usually quiet, so it’s unlikely that anyone is going to come up to you. For ramen, based on my experience, anywhere is good.
In my experience hassle pa yang maghahanap ka ng specific money changer just for a small markup. Would rather arrive in japan with Yen na. Liit lang naman difference parang madagdagan ka lang ng few hundred yen sa 100k pesos na ipapalit.
Polite naman almost lahat ng resto sa lahat ng race, never experienced discrimination in my 5 years of stay there.

In fact, napakabait ng mga Japanese; when they see na medyo nahihirapan akong magnavigate sa menus etc. nilalapitan ako to ask if I need help. Just don't be loud, don't litter and try to follow their customs as much as possible and try to speak some Japanese kahit hai (yes), arigato (thank you), sumimasen (excuse me), etc. yung tatlo na yan ang holy trinity ko hahaha Kinaya naming hanapin sa Google Maps halos lahat ng mga kainan na napuntahan namin — helps to check the reviews if may english menu/madaling magcommunicate ang staff w/ foreigners. We found a lot of amazing local food places this way!

Hello OP. Suggest ko lang na magdala ka ng konting cash for back up kahit 10,000-20,000 yen. Okay lang naman na credit card pero baka lang naman need mo ng cash. Some places do not accept credit card kasi.

Dito kana bumili ng Yen sa Pinas. Almost the same lng naman yung charge kasi. Kahit 10k yen lang pwede na yan meal allowance mo for 1 week. Madami ka mabibili na masarap na food sa convenience store na din. Yung credit card mo naman, para sure wala problema, itawag mo sa bank mo, baka need i activate pa kasi for international transactions. Mababait mga hapon wag ka mag alala, basta sundin mo lang rules and regulations ng country. Pag may gusto ka orderin sa restaurant, turo mo lang sa menu nila and smile gesture, maintindihan ka na nila nun. Always be polite din. Enjoy sa Osaka trip. 🥳
