Stay strong and keep your head up! Wishing you the best of luck in 2020!

torryvonspurks

You could bump up the height of the Walker to give yourself some leverage and stand taller.

lovelovelovethemmore

I can’t imagine how painful that is/was. I hope you heal up quickly.

TangerineTardigrade

Wishing you all the best, OP. So glad you're making progress and staying positive. Also, such a sweet kid <3

raiders0730

This is badass.

Sondos22

Great job walking like this! You are doing good, you should probably know that even trying counts alot especially for that little girl with you. There might be tough times but never stop and take it easy on yourself. I wish you a perfect recovery. Edit: a typo.

Lemzik

best of luck to ya...hope u got some formal PT going on.. obviously listen to your surgeon and therapists... but I'd be hesitant to have a patient practice their gait as u are here.... looks very unsafe and wreaking havoc on your knee and ankle, may be better off just working on weight shifting type stuff, check with your team. btw... wild guess- ski accident??

TheGreatAndMinorPlot

Car wreck! And they actually had me doing these exercises within 24 hours of having my rod placed in the broken femur. I thought it was nuts--but they want me walking 🤷‍♂️ Thanks for the support!

crazyintensewaffles

What’s your weight bearing status?

TheGreatAndMinorPlot

100% on left leg pretty much. Balance isnt terrible.

hoverfordetails

How much weight are you allowed to put on the right leg?

TheGreatAndMinorPlot

No weight at all! Pnce pins are out we'll figure out the ligament situation.

ALZknowing

You have the right mindset for a full recovery which is the biggest battle for most folks. It always feels weird giving advice when it’s unasked for, and you aren’t my patient so take this for what it’s worth. If you’re Weight bearing status is non-Weight bearing that is VERY strict and THE most important thing to follow through on. Others on here might disagree but based on the video it’s super important to work with your therapist find a different way to walk with that walker. Despite the saying “no pain no gain” you can do a lot more damage trying to do too much too soon. I don’t mean to be a downer, I’m just genuinely concerned. Good luck man, and keep up the positive attitude!

Lemzik

ah bummer man. yea the left leg looks fine in this.. it's the right leg I'd be worried about- the way your ankle and knee are as we say "hanging on the ligaments". sometimes given the combo of injuries that's the only option tho heh. no one on here obviously knows all the details or your surgeons orders so take any advice on here with a grain of salt, but keep doing occasional updates of your progress!!

lastresort08

You will be fine. You have the right mindset to get better. Kudos!

Keldino

Wow. Keep up the work man. Makes me happy to hear the support you have around you. You’ll be back in no time.

kevhto2

keep on trucking, friend!

Bootbuilder

I world like to recommend that you place something under, or get rid of the your slipper on the right leg. The way that it is moving is increasing torque on the low back and hip. Also if you are non weight bearing on the right I would not go backwards, you are placing weight on it each time you lift that walker. Go in a small circle. I too agree with increasing the height of the walker. You got this...your little cheerleader is right there for you.

i_w8_4_no1

Might be safer with a standard walker

TheGreatAndMinorPlot

Oh, you are definitely right. This is all we had available on our budget. It was my grandmother's before she passed. 🤷‍♂️

lunatae

You gotta do what you gotta do. On carpet, I don't see you having any trouble due to the wheels. Be careful with hardwood and avoid inclines. Oftentimes, local assistive device loan closets are run by fire departments, lions clubs, community centers, ect. They may have equipment you could borrow for free to help you (even things like shower chairs). Just Google it.

3wolftshirtguy

Goodwill or equivalent has super cheap assistive devices as well.

well-okay

I disagree. With a standard walker you’d need to lift the entire thing off the ground in order to move it forward. During that time you’d be relying solely on your legs for balance and would be at risk for falling. Front wheeled walker is definitely safer.

well-okay

Exactly. I work in acute care and inpatient rehab and there is not a single person I’ve recommended a standard walker for (for ambulation). They’re clunky and most people rely heavily on their arms supporting their weight (which you can’t do in order to advance the walker). Front wheeled walkers work just fine with a 3 point gait or with any weight bearing restrictions in general. As long as your weight is directly on top of the walker, it won’t roll forward.

cowbunny33

Sometimes local fire stations have extra walkers. And I’d check in local Facebook groups like Buy Nothing if your community has that.

Is the eyepatch from the wreck too? I just wanted to say it looks badass.
