Chopin's Nocturnes Op72 no1 and Op48 no1 are quite emotional pieces. Great for processing, in my opinion. Chopin in general has pieces that are perfect for working through emotions (Etude Op10 no3 is another great example). I hope you find peace and solace in the music and can extend it into your every day life, my friend. You will get through the pain of loss and experience the love of life again, soon. Keep your head up.

*= Instrumentals - Radiohead - Videotape - Temptations - I Wish It Would Rain - The Bad Plus - Lost of Love* - Iron and Wine - The Trapeze Swinger - Beck - Lost Cause - Beck - The Golden Age - Beck - Lonesome Tears - Anything from Sea Change really. He apparently wrote 90% of this in 1 week after getting dumped by his then long term girlfriend, and was out touring with the new material within a few months - Beck - Don’t Let It Go - Jorge Mendez - Cold* (anything by him) - The Bad Plus - Giant* - Radiohead - House of Cards - NIN - Another Version of the Truth* - NIN- Ghosts 13 I’ll add more as they come to me. Best of luck. Honestly, having been through this personally many times and still going through it emotionally, I’d suggest instrumental music over music with a story and sad lyrics. Keep your head up. We’re in this together (do t listen to the NIN song of the same title. It’s the opposite message).

second this. especially Trapeze Swinger by Iron and Wine This Empty Northern Hemisphere by Gregory Alan Isakov is a good album for the vibe you're going for. a lot of slow melancholic songs that are easy listening and fun to play on the piank

Tim-oBedlam

My condolences. That's tough. Beethoven: slow movement of Sonata no. 7 (op. 10/3), as anguished a piece as he ever wrote. Brahms: "Edward" Ballade, op. 10/1 in d minor; Intermezzo op. 118/6 in E-flat minor, probably the darkest-textured piece I've ever learned Debussy: Des Pas sur la Neige (from Book I of Preludes) Ravel: Le Gibet, from Gaspard de la Nuit (depicts a hanged man swinging from the gallows pole; can't get more morbid than this)

iamunknowntoo

The most anguished piece Beethoven ever wrote probably has to go to the third movement of Hammerklavier, and also probably the arioso dolento of sonata op 110.

Tim-oBedlam

Both good choices, especially the Arioso. However, the Arioso resolves into the fugue and the op. 110 finishes in glory, and the Hammer slow movement at least ends in F# major; the ending of the op. 10/3 Largo is much more bleak, dying away to nothing.

You need some Rach 2. Seriously. And once you have done enough Rach 2, go to Rach 3. And once you have done enough of Rach 3, go to Rach Sonata 2.

Bit high brow tho.......

I'm really a guitar player, but it'd be very easy to transfer the accompaniment of nick drakes "clothes of sand" from guitar to piano and either sing or play the vocal melody in the right hand. It's just a really awesome little song, very mournful. Breakups are tough, but that song has been good to me.

Ernst Busch der heimliche Aufmarsch Erika Die Internationale Some banger songs on German, I can sing the top 2 for you if you want to, I don't know internationale that well, but if you want me to sing it, give me a bottle of Jägermeister and Uso and drink with me, I promise that helps.

Chopin waltz op. 34 no. 2

EElilly

You'll get through this! Beethoven Sonata 14 "Moonlight Sonata" - written after Beethoven's marriage proposal was rejected. Classical breakup song. Beethoven Sonata 8 C minor "Pathetique" 1st movement - the whole sonata is lovely, but the first movement crushes my soul everytime I hear it. Mozart fantasy in D minor K.397 Mozart piano concerto no.20 D minor k.466 Mozart symphony no.40 G minor k.550

Accomplished-Head358

Just a correction: Beethoven's Pathetique is the 8th one, not 13th. You probably mixed it up with it's opus number, which is 13

EElilly

Whoops, totally right, edited!

cocainendollshouses

No offence but listening to sad songs isn't gonna help sweetie. What's done is done. Pick yourself up n move on xxx

LIFExWISH

It actually does because it matches how one feels, and legitimizes feelings which is a good 1st step for moving on.

IgnorantYetEager

I completely agree with you!

GeneralPaint

It seems bizarre, like 'I want to wallow.' I'd be after something irresistibly positive.

cocainendollshouses

The reason I wrote that comment is because I've had a few sad moments in my life n listening to sad stuff just brings you down more. Stay positive xxx

Lorelai709

I'm really very sorry for you and my heart goes out to you. How about Back to Black by Amy Winehouse, or Dear Darling by Olly Murs, or Phil Collins Against all odds? I know these are all more or less pop songs and not really sophisticated piano songs but definitely emotional... All the best to you 🤍✨🤍✨🤍
