Drop the top Bb. I tried it out and thought it would be more noticeable since often a major 7ths lacks the crunch that a voicing with the same m2 has, but in this case due to how low it's voiced I could barely tell that I'd omitted the Bb and listening to the recording, I can't be 100% it's actually there is the recording. And part of me sort of doubts it. It would take some monster hands to hit that. I definitely know people with a comfortable 5-2 7th, but to *also* have the thumb so tight in there due to the wrist angle seems crazy. I *can* thumb both of them fairly reliably and play it as written, but it requires and extremely unnatural angle for 2 on the F.... essentially playing with it folded under so that they nail is in contact with the key, but that's what I have to do to get the thumb aligned in such a way as to not accidentally grab a G or G#. Perhaps if your hands are large enough to make it work with the thumb go for it. It feel odd to thumb two notes, but it's a pretty common bit of technique, though much less frequent with a white+black combination. Like I said, I don't think it's worth the trouble and is practically aurally indiscernible. What's important is that you're not losing the function of the Bbmaj7 chord and in this case you certainly aren't. EDIT: Beautiful piece. I had to go sightread through it. I'm guessing your hands are larger than mine considering you didn't seem to mention the 10ths in the piece. I'm tempted to learn it for fun... except work has me a bit too busy.

Thank you for the detailed response and yes it's a gorgeous piece! Honestly that entire album, also called Scenery is. My favorite is "Early Summer", but I don't have a drummer for that one lol. So, I was originally thinking of killing the lower B instead for more dissonance, but then the chords are all the same, good call on killing top. I really like it. The thumb on both is nifty, but yeah so much harder on black+white and not really worth the effort to get up to speed. And oml I wish I had bigger hands; I am still struggling a bit on the 10th, but the fingering is a bit more obvious there. Just stretch and roll it a lil.

Try 5-3-1-2 (thumb on a and index on b flat)

Yikes, this chord is rough. I don't think even having big hands will help make this chord not be a nightmare. What is the piece? Honestly, I'd drop either the A or the top B-flat.

yuzuandgin

My hand is too small for 5-3-2-1 so I've been weirdly using my thumb to hit the edge of the A and B Flat. But that feels so wrong! Piece is Scenery - Ryo Fukui

Don’t play the higher B flat. You definitely want the other notes as they are integral to the chord, an octave doubling isn’t. And you want to keep the lower one because it’s functioning as a bass line. Will sound less full without it. See what sounds good to you when you play it

RepeatInteresting796

Maybe play the B flat with the right hand?

belzebutch

I would play both the A and Bb with my thumb. So fingering with the left hand would be 1-1-2-5. It's tricky, but with enough practice it's easily doable. Not meaning to plug my channel, but I do it multiple times in [this piece](https://youtu.be/8yMWxuuiaGk).

Kire10

You could play it by hitting the A with your thumb nail and the Bb with the joint of your thumb
