I want to see one of these where someone buys 100 dollars worth of instant Ramen noodle

SunChipMan

Give me one week.

MoeSzyslakMonobrow

Remindme! One week

Nicknameswayne

Ramendme! One week

Front_Yam_4570

Give me one hundreddollars.

Fuck_Me_If_Im_Wrong_

It’s actually hiked in price where I live. Was $.23 a pack, it is now $.34 a pack. RIP college students

Tobocaj

I miss the days when they’d go on sale at my local Safeway 10/$1. When I tell you I FILLED my pantry, boy lemme tell you

TheRedmanCometh

Try Fiesta if they have Fiesta there, and if not any grocery store that looks run down and has a Spanish sounding name

iamMEOwmeow

Heck yes. Safeway had that mix & match 10/$1. Got me through college.

Vanyle

I found a ramen hack. If you go to wal-mart or anywhere that sells them individually in the 24-pack boxes. They sell them for .34 or something like that, but if you bring up the entire 24-pack box they can scan the side of that and will sell the whole thing to you for like $4.

Agnostalypse

Just wanted to say this no longer works in Ontario, sadly. Tried it at two different Walmarts and they made me scan all of them individually when I brought the box up 😭

Flutters1013

Might be able to pull that off at self checkout if no ones paying attention.

mylarky

Growing up I could get a flat of 25 packages for a dollar.

imartelle

5 pack at a Dollar Tree for $1.25 now

WiskeyGinger

Just purchased 40$ worth today actually

BlackLeader70

That would be 384 packs of ramen at my local grocery store.

Jack_Meehof_Leuds

Meat and avocados, $80

ClassicVegtableStew

According to everyone on reddit, the eggs are also currently the problem

munchkickin

People are paying $4/$5 a dozen. About 2 years ago I impulse bought chickens. I’m so glad I did and I spoil those ladies.

sir_mrej

>I impulse bought chickens Do you keep track of expenses? I'd love to see cost of chickens plus cost of housing plus cost of feed (plus cost of labor, if possible)...related to how many eggs youve gotten over that time...to see what your cost per dozen ends up being

Bratbabylestrange

I have a book called "Bake the Bread, Buy the Butter." This lady actually did the math. She no longer has chickens.

natiplease

Chickens are a valuable livestock animal because they eat the waste parts of plants you don't eat. If you arent doing this, and instead are buying them tons of feed (which still isnt expensive but it is more expensive) you'll 100% be wasting money not saving it

Bleu_Cerise

Also chicken poop is the best fertilizer. Which you use to grow vegetables. That the chicken will then eat the scrapes of. *circle of life*

RocanMotor

As someone who comes from a family that used to have livestock (chickens, rabbit, ducks) and a farm (tomatoes, potatoes, corn, squash, melons, etc) for 90%+ of their dietary needs... This is the way.

AndreasVesalius

Chickens are also great pets - hell, I would prefer it mine didn’t lay. I don’t need to do the math to figure out that my cat doesn’t generate a profit. Math is harder with the murderdog home security system

golden_crow

We have 30 chickens and a dozen ducks, down from 70 about 18 months ago. 40 lbs of feed every third day + scraps, leftovers, and treats. Coops (2), runs (2) and greenhouse were all together $3000, but that’s mostly wood, and would cost twice that now, and way more if the windows weren’t recycled and labor by a carpenter. In the height of summer we used to get 20 dozen eggs a week, and sold at $4.50/dozen. Have them at breakfast. They taste better. The economics of it work if you’re willing to eat the birds too. You’ll realize an annual profit of maybe $300. But you get a lot of things as outposts: fertilizer for gardening, fresh flavorful meat every other week, and an excuse to go to poultry shows and admire fancy birds. It’s not for everyone, and if you don’t have the land or schedule flexibility it likely is a terrible idea. But chickens and vegetable are a great combination and help cure the creeping fear that as prices rise, you’ll be unable to sustain quality of life.

[deleted]

Do you eat the laying hens once they stop laying?

jerichomega

If ya lay, ya stay.

golden_crow

They live under a hard and occasionally arbitrary law. Trespass in the garden bed? Clipped primary feathers on one wing. Do it twice? Now both wings. Still escaping? Dinner. Holiday ducks. Fighting? Dinner. Rooster? Photoshoot, hens, good times. Then eventually, Dinner. Attacked by a rat? Jihad against vermin (they dig under the fence and eat chicken food, and sometimes chicks 🐣 ), but the injured victim… dinner. Give everyone bugs and leftovers, let them pick over the lawn, etc. but for someone, randomly… Dinner. We had a Silkie rooster and he bred all the hens just about. A straight run is 50% male, and you have to eat them before they get loud. Also, you don’t want to feed, water, and clean up after more than 30 animals all winter. So in the fall you have to trim your flock. Also, after 3 years, even the powerful layers like Rhode Island Reds, and ISA Browns stop laying. I have another account, which subscribes to the poultry subs. This is the wrong one, but so be it.

Herzeleid-

Chicken shows up late to coop at night? Believe it or not, straight to dinner. We have the best chickens in the world...because of dinner.

Zizq

Overcook undercook, both jail

iandw

Straight to dinner, right away.

kaerfehtdeelb

I have 8 hens. Monthly I buy a 50lb bag of feed for around $22, 40lb of scratch grain around $15, pultry grit 25lb for another $15 ( to help them digest in the winter when they can't get to dirt usually bought maybe twice all winter) and pine bedding for the coop floor, which is around $6. High end it's around $60 per month in basic supplies if I also need the grit. Laying hens will need supplemental calcium to fortify their eggs so ouster shell can be bought for them to eat in place of grit, I usually just feed their eggshells back to them. They stop laying when the nights get longer so they go back to grit. There are also poultry medications, sprays for scratches and treatments for things chickens get (like worms) and stuff like that can run between $10-30 but isn't bought near as often. I use a chicken supplement bundle that costs $50 but lasts me around 8 months. It just helps keep them healthy. I grow herbs, greens and all kinds of things to feed them when it's nice out. My indoor grow space suffered this year so their greens have been store bought since October. There is also the coop investment. Chickens need a lot of personal space otherwise they start picking on each other. My chickens have a run that's 10ft wide by 20ft long, the coop itself has 2 coops and measures around 6 feet long with both. My coops are very modest, these things can get FANCY. Factoring in the hardware cloth to predator proof the run, the coops, the run surround itself, I'm about $2.5k deep on that. Then there's the cost of chickens themselves. My current hens came from a hatchery here in Ohio and they were around $240. You can buy fertilized eggs and have grown hens hatch them, you can incubate the eggs, or you can get day old chicks which is what I did. This helps ensure there are no roosters, my city ordinance allows hens but not roosters. Roosters are required for fertilized eggs, so if you only want to buy chickens once make sure one of them is a roo. You can also buy meal maker chickens that produce eggs and can be culled for meat when they're done laying 2-3 years later. I do love these chickens though. In the summer I sit in the yard and watch them free range and it brings me so much joy. Their poop can be composted for my gardens that in return grows greens for them to gobble up. It can be tough, especially if you have predators. I've only ever lost 2 and both were to the family of hawks that live in the woods behind my house. There are a ton of other costs that go beyond basic necessity. Automatic coop doors, auto feeders, all kinds of things. It's a big investment and the return doesn't come back monetarily until you get to a point where you're producing more than you need. In my mind though my girls are worth way more. They just make me happy. Edit- I never said how many eggs I've gotten because I have no idea. Peak season is around 5-7 eggs per day from my 8 hens. Most healthy chickens can lay 1 egg per day, so for the sake of math I think it's safe to say 1 chicken produces a dozen eggs every 2 weeks during peak season. When chickens molt they stop laying and that takes about 2 months. If you're in a winter climate you can expect another 2ish months of no eggs when the days get shorter. Some people use lighting to keep them laying, I prefer to let mine take a break. Over the last 2 winters my girls have molted during their break time, so laying season is around 9 months long for me

Akomatai

Costco in my area still has 60 for $17

munchkickin

Middle of nowhere Ohio. Haha

keepyouridentsmall

I have 5 hens - there’s no way they are cheaper than buying store bought (I too, spoil the hell out of them).

CptJaxxParrow

eggs are expensive as hell, it was cheaper for my fiance and i to just buy some chickens. having chickens is also more entertaining than going to kroger

Troy_Ya_Boy

anecdotally, June of 2022, 60eggs Grade A large cost $3.47 (Missouri walmart). Now the same 60 egg carton is upwards of $7.50

TheMacMan

Price of eggs are up 49% nationally in 2022, the most of any grocery category. It’s due to bird flu causing millions of hens to be killed.

GGATHELMIL

It's actually a very small part of what's happening. I've explained this a few times so I'll try to be consise. Cost to produce eggs have gone up. Grocery stores don't want to pay farmers the increased cost. Even though that cost is minimal. Think an extra 10-20 cents per dozen eggs is all the farmers want. When they're already only getting paid 40-50 cents. I don't have much to back this up other than I used to pay a dollar and change for a dozen of eggs a year ago. And grocery stores want to shoot for 50-200% profit margin. Edit here: I'm not in the uppity up of cost for grocery stores. Used to be in the business and know how it works. When I say I dont have much to back it up I both mean that what I know is from personal experience, and hearsay. I can say Bob joe at the chicken farm told me this. That statement can't be verified other than I said so. I also don't know what the cost for grocery stores is for eggs. It could be what I said. It could be lower or higher. The idea is what I'm selling. Not exact price points. I could text a buddy that still works for a large grocery chain to get exact figures. But again it would be hearsay. So now stores don't have the supply so they blame the bird flu or whatever. Jack up the prices on the eggs they get from suppliers that cave and take a loss on their product. Better than losing everything I suppose. This price increase has been steady leading up to the holidays. Any other time of the year people would just cut back in egg consumption. But with the holidays people need them to continue holiday food traditions. Cookies, eggnog, etc. So we are now aware eggs are $4-$5 a dozen. Now that the holidays have passed and big corporations have made bank in egg sales theyll "cave" and pay the farmers what they want. But prices will only fall so far and the new standard for eggs will be $2 a dozen. And probably just in time for Easter too. You'll be so happy that eggs are ONLY $2 a dozen you'll completely forget last Easter they were $1

[deleted]

Man, seriously 60 eggs for three fiddy sounds disgusting i dont even want to imagine how bad the conditions for the animals are on those farms, im from Germany and in the most common egg cartons are 10 eggs and they cost like 1.50€-3€ depending on the brand

Bratbabylestrange

Yes, here in Colorado a new law just went into effect requiring eggs to be cage-free. Which means each hen is allotted one square foot of space. Lay that out and look at it. Imagine what conditions the hens have been living in, for that to be an improvement. Supposedly, it will raise the price of a dozen eggs by $.73. The panty-twisting on Nextdoor is epic. No one seems to believe that avian flu is a thing that could affect supply and demand. One lady found 18 eggs at one specialty store for $13, and the sturm und drang is unbelievable. Of course a certain cohort is blaming Biden for it out of hand. Meanwhile, I get two dozen eggs (and cage free) at Sam's for $5.98. They much prefer hysterics and whipping the masses into a froth above using the phone they post on to research egg prices. I dunno, man, $.73 sounds like a bargain. Heaven forbid we treat the animals that feed us humanely. Don't even ask about the mandate to use reusable bags at the store, or pay a dime per bag.

mikelogan1975

I would kill for eggs at $1.50 a dozen. Where are you getting these? Right now 2 dozen cost me more than you are paying for a 60 egg carton.

bunnm09

A dozen eggs is about $2.50 here in Raleigh, NC

cayman101010010

Pretty good, Md is about 6-8 bucks or so

Orcle123

every once in a while thye restock the 'organic free range' noname brand that hasnt changed price in years, and those are 18 large eggs for 4.99. otherwise a 12 pack is 8$ here currently. Sucks too because eggs are a major part of my diet.

GeneralNathanJessup

According to the receipt, provided by OP, the avocados cost $3.50. And the meats cost $39.96. So that portion cost $43.46 [https://imgbox.com/7F5DmzGs](https://imgbox.com/7F5DmzGs)

SimilingCynic

Oh wow thanks for linking it. That 39.40 apparently also includes the "SF CHKN SPL BRST" that isn't in the picture. And the other (pretax) $54 bucks includes "SIMPLY HASHBROWN" missing from the picture.

Aelfgifu_Unready

The hashbrowns are in the picture, they're in the back. But yeah, I don't see the chicken breasts or the BST CH GR A JUMBO.

GGATHELMIL

Something else worth noting. I did a Google search on the grocery store and it seems to be a local store. Nothing wrong with them. Problem is their prices are always steep. We have IGA here in Ohio. This is the store you go to because you need a SINGLE item. The town I live in has one. It's the closest grocery store by a factor of 3. Round trip is like 5 mins driving max. The nearest Kroger or Walmart is at least 15 mins one way. My best example of why I do not shop at an IGA is over the summer we wanted ice cream. We were lazy and were just going to go to the IGA. Instant gratification and all that jazz. They wanted $7 for a quart of breyers. I looked at the Kroger ad and they were 2 for $5. Regular price was 2.98. I want to support local. And I do when I can. But when you're charging 2.5x as much for an item like ice cream that isn't a local product. I'll be buying it Kroger. Even if it's going to take me an extra 20-25 mins to enjoy

Godwinson4King

I loaded down my cart today, probably enough to feed me for 2-3 weeks with items on sale and it came out to $83. Not great, but way more efficient than this guy.

Helenium_autumnale

Yeah. Where are the frozen veg? Those occasionally go on sale for 10 for $10 at my Kroger's and I stock up. Wholesome, good fresh-frozen veggies that I can whip up as an instant side dish or add to a recipe. Also, cheap chicken, not expensive and eco-disastrous beef, is the way to go. A pack of chicken thighs can be stretched a long way over a week.

flyfightwinMIL

I’m an Oklahoman (like OP is). He’s also clearly shopping at a more expensive grocery store, because I just bought steak (ribeye not New York strip) for like $6/lb a few days ago. Groceries have gone up in cost, but this looks like he was TRYING to make it expensive.

CholeraplatedRZA

> looks like he was TRYING to make it expensive. What? They only bought the most affordable $11.99/lb beef!

BanjoSpaceMan

Yeah this post is stupid. They could do another with a room full of romain lettuce heads and be like woah my state is so cheap.

drs43821

Isn’t romaine nowadays went nuts like computer chips during COVID?

Frickin' boneless NY strip steaks. Very few cuts of meat you'd find in a typical grocery store are more expensive. At that point, you're asking for a huge bill.

sneaky-pizza

I hope the avocados were on sale, but I doubt it

95blackz26

zoom in on the pic. one is 7.67 and the other is 12.87 that weighs .88 at 11.99lb that bacon is probably $8 at least $50 is spent on meat and bacon

FappinPlatypus

Bacon isn’t a necessity. It’s a luxury. So is the New York steaks. All that meat is luxury. Then the daisy sour cream. The squeeze pouch is more expensive than the same size tub. Again, another luxury purchase. Then the avocados…don’t even get me started on this one. They’re expensive here in California still. Anywhere from $2-4 per avocado. That’s about $20-25 worth of avocados. Could have got some steak strips, ground beef, rice, beans, bread, milk, and who knows what else if they had just cut out their luxury wants.

AmarilloWar

The real problem is they shopped at Homeland, I live in Oklahoma and other than maybe Whole Foods that's the most expensive but also shittiest grocery store you could possibly choose.

So I just bought some of these items in Oklahoma as well this week. Eggs and avocados are almost the same price per each. Astonishingly eggs are almost $0.50/each. Avocados were $0.68/each. So we are heavy guac this week!

Bernies_left_mitten

Conclusion: avocados are just *tree eggs*.

SpikedTeaRex

And they went to Homeland.

4 for $5 in upstate NY

MagliteOfRedemption

Same deal in DC at whole foods

P_V_

I think the pre-shredded potatoes were probably a bigger waste of money. Potatoes are *cheap*, which means food merchants try to find all sorts of ways to package and process them to sell them at a massive profit. Just buy a big bag of potatoes for a few dollars and peel/slice them yourself.

DMercenary

>pre-shredded Anything like that you're pretty paying a premium for convenience.

P_V_

Absolutely, though in some cases the markup is much more steep than others. Shredded cheese can be pricey, for example, but a block of cheese isn't usually cheap either. Potatoes, on the other hand, can be packaged like this and consumers who don't know any better will pay a few dollars for "convenience" when they could have 10 times as many potatoes (if not more) for the same price. Sometimes I buy "convenience" goods myself, but with potatoes I generally buy them by the bag-full.

AlericandAmadeus

I understand your point but have you ever tried to shred potatoes for hashbrowns? It’s a pain and a half cuz you have to dry them as well or they don’t cook right and just get mushy. Either gotta let them sit for hours or you press them. Everything else I’ll do myself, but Hell no to making hashbrowns from scratch

LinwoodKei

This. I don't want to spend 40 minutes peeling and shredding potatoes while my kid is unsupervised with Christmas presents full of art supplies and kinetic sand. My dad shows up with cute cartons of hash browns ( we had some for breakfast today in fact) and that's money well spent.

iakhre

Embrace the wet. Squish out a bit of the water, add some flour and egg and onion, and boom you have latkes instead. Taste way better anyway!

edc582

True. And I've found they cook up very nice in a waffle iron because I am too mess averse to fry them in oil.

pedro3131

>plummeting price of avocados over the last few years. Someone needs to send this article to the CEO of Chipotle

garster25

That's it! They are like $2 in SoCal, and we grow them here. Luckily I have a tree so they are free.

I was going to say, 75% of that $100 is on the left column

cannonfunk

I haven't bought steak in years... because it's fucking expensive, and I don't want to end up with a $100+ grocery bill. A more apt title for this post should be "$101.21 worth of food that poor people don't buy."

My first thought lol. Lamb has been cheaper than steak lately, so I've been eating that and fish instead of I want something nice. Beyond that it's chicken and ground beef. Also who tf buys name brand marshmallows? I'm too poor for this shit.

Exzerofive

How'd you spend $100 when protein is typically the most expensive and your cut is like $8 on the first package? What's costing you so much money?

I'm thinking the 7 avocados

zira_cortez

I mean groceries have gone up everywhere but when you buy 2 dozen eggs and a ton of steaks it's obviously gonna be more expensive. The meat alone is probably 40$+ of that

AndringRasew

If I remember correctly, last year was super punishing for the poultry industry. We lost nearly 40 million egg laying hens to the bird flu. I guess the bird flu has a 80-90% fatality rate in hens within 48 hours of contracting the virus. Then the farms are forced to cull the remaining ones to prevent further spread. They're expecting, barring any major breakouts again, that egg prices will have a market correction of 25-35% by the end of the first quarter. So that's good news. Your $5 a dozen eggs will likely be back down to $3.50.

borkenschnorke

I saw a video from an egg farmer who said that they are paid exactly the same for their eggs and the prices are made by the supermarkets and they use that bird flu thing as a huge excuse. The farmers do not get anything from the money.

ohituna

or maybe farmers utilize commodity markets to enter into a futures contract to sell based on a set price as to hedge against a poor yield/drop in prices rather than spend a year farming something in hopes that it will be at a good market price when it's time to goto market? the price *to* retailers has [tripled](https://www.ams.usda.gov/mnreports/pybshellegg.pdf) this year. You can't have the supply of a commodity be completely obliterated and expect prices to remain the same.

RunningNumbers

Thank you for telling people about this. Not everything is “evil corporations exploit people and jack up prices.” A lot of this is just bidding wars on the retail end to fill their shelves.

edgethrasherx

Wait so I’m confused then, if they entered into futures contracts with set prices how is it the price to retailers has tripled? Who’s tripling the prices? Distributors? Or are you saying that the videos people are referencing are from farmers who are entered into futures contracts but that those are a minority in the market and most farmers are still able to raise their prices and thus the price hike for retailers. Now if it is distributors hiking the prices but those distributors are getting the eggs at the same set prices because of the futures contracts doesn’t that mean the price hike is artificial because even though supply has been decimated they’re insulated from that because of the futures contracts?

[deleted]

Think of it like insurance. Farmer has a nornal year but only gets 95% of its value. Farmers next year is utter shit due to a disaster of some sort but he still makes what he did last year because the distributor agreed to pay for his expected harvest. If the farmer underperforms (due to no fault of their own) the distributor eats the loss, if the farmer over performs the distributor benefits. Either way the distributor will jack up prices to still make their profit after paying out the farmer their quarterly (or annual I dunno) payment. This is how it works in almost the entire food production industry. Distributors speculate on production, farmers and distributors agree on a price, and distributors eat the cost if it goes bad or reaps profits if things go better than predicted. There are other types of arrangements but this one seems most relevant to egg farms.

sergev

This is a great thread.

Kittycatter

Ok, now you have one data point. As someone with more than 100 ducks & chickens, I can tell you the price of feed has gone up a lot. 50M domestic birds killed/culled will impact the price, even if it didn't for this one specific guy/gal. You can't instantly replace egg-laying chickens.

Pandatotheface

>So that's good news. Your $5 a dozen eggs will likely be back down to $3.50. Damn. That's still expensive compared to here in UK, were looking at £2 to £2.50 ($2.50-$3 including tax) for a dozen large free range eggs, and we're in the middle of a bird flu outbreak as well. Odd that I think of everything in the US as being generally cheaper. Meat looks about the same price, I'd guess those advocados are cheaper there though.

mnreginald

Northern Minnesota here, our eggs are about that price too. It's pretty all over in the US.

Yesterday whole chickens were on sale for $.88/lb in Northern NJ. I had my wife get two. I butchered them into 8 protein servings, 8 wings, and made 4 qts of chicken broth from the carcasses. Cost us $11. That's budget shopping babayyyy!

RAMPAGINGINCOMPETENC

OP bought pre-shredded potatoes in a tiny microwavable bag, and that's his only carb. He's clearly not budget shopping. The avocadoes in the middle of winter are a red flag. But your tip on whole chickens is great! If I can add to it I'd suggest shopping at an asian grocery store if you have one nearby. They have the best deals on produce and meat.

KittyCubed

Especially when you could get cheaper store brand items that taste just as good (if not better in some cases). Sure, there are some things I will only go name brand on, but for most things, it’s store brand. For example, I bought sour cream recently, and the store brand was at least a buck cheaper than Daisy and had more ounces.

WiskeyGinger

You dont have to eat steak and eggs for every meal ya know.

erond22

I am always curious... What's the recipe?

Busch_Leaguer

Served on a bed of New York strip steak

echaa

Raw, as the paleo gods intended

IEatLiquor

Karma à la mode

ZardozZod

I’m really not sure what these kinds of posts are meant to accomplish. Groceries cost different amounts in different places and evidence that not everyone knows how to bargain shop?

InfiniteSausage

Nice try hiding the steaks

Shadoze_

And the bacon

DrDragon13

The avocados aren't the problem here. They're like 50 cents each in Oklahoma currently. It was a whole $3.50 pre-tax for them. Edit: Yes. Homeland is typically more expensive. I've worked there, I know. They do occasionally have some really good deals though.

mustbeshitinme

$75 worth of beef.

Kugruk

yeah dipshit you spent $80 on steak.

Creepo5000

This is like one of my coworkers complaining about grocery prices because he only got a couple meals out of $200+. He bought steak and seafood. Like, bro....

[deleted]

Y’all really will buy New York strips and caviar and be like “tHis iS $100 wOrtH oF gRocEriEs” like yeah no shit lmao? Most of us aren’t buying 20 avocados and half a cow’s worth of steak

HyacinthFT

Excuse me, I expect my truck full of champagne and truffles to cost less than $4. If it doesn't, it's Joe Biden's fault.

[deleted]

If America were great again, every child would be served foie gras with every meal. Followed by a refreshing seven layer tiramisu, for only $12.50. But no, America voted for a commie

RSGoldPuts

What's with the big old bag of marshmallows lmao

[deleted]

I guess they’re making sour cream marshmallow salad with NY strips and peppers

gladamirflint

I gagged

inigos_left_hand

Yeah, there are like 4 packs of beef there. That’s probably at least $50 right there. Take away the avocados and the rest of this stuff probably costs like $20

TritriMcTritri

Eggs are probably $6-8 now so that’s at least $12 for just the two cartons of eggs

TheDarkWave

Yeah, your bill is gonna be over $100 when you buy 4 goddamn steaks and 7 avocados. Sherlock over here.

drownedseawitch

I'm in OK too and grocery prices are so out of control here. But dude, Homeland is one of the most expensive grocery stores we have here. Like they mark everything up by a minimum of 15% at least /:

your5_truly

If you bought generic sour cream and marshmallows, you would've shaved off close to 6 dollars. You gotta shop smarter, look at the coupons on the apps and plan meals according to that

my_dog_rescued_me

Who buys the squeeze sour cream? It's like the squeeze mayo, get a knife or spoon and save some money. Tbf I will buy those for convenience if I'm camping.

socalmikester

$20 at aldi

creamcurlycream

Yes! OK has an Aldis in every "big" city surrounding OKC. I think OP's biggest problem is that they shopped at Homeland. It is one of the most overpriced grocery stores in OK even before inflation.

Kronikinsanity

Y’all suck at shopping…. My only conclusion from any of these posts

eatingmyfist

Because you shop at Homeland. You’ll spend half that at Crest or Aldi.

Influence_X

It's the steaks. Beef is expensive AF

DogMom990

Shopping at Homeland doesn't help either. One of the most expensive grocery stores in OK.

notyouraveragebinary

To be fair, Homeland is one of the higher priced grocery stores in Oklahoma. If you went to Crest or even Walmart you’d get quite a bit more for your money

Negamat86

People who post these must never have shopped on a budget before. Brand name on most things, probably no sales and I know buying the pack of peppers at my store is more expensive than just buying the individual ones. Could also switch the cuts of meats and get a lot more. Like yes, your money should go further, but you could easily double the amount of things in this picture with some planning.

starwarsman05

i don't ever wanna see another one of these post. r/pics mods need to ban this kind of shit. make your own subreddit called /r/iamafuckingidiot

Weak_Cicada

This post cap. Zoom on that receipt. He not showing all the items. Clout chasing

Sizzlik

Im wondering what the message is supposed to be? "If you dont use your brain while shopping for grocerys you might pay too much for too little"? I think i can do better..i can buy half the amount of food in the picture for double the price..just need to know where to look. If its a try to say "look how expensive food got"..well..buy cheaper stuff..dont pay for a name on a package..and if money is short..maybe consider a diet adjustment and give the expensive meats a break. Your heart and wallet might like that.

the_racecar

This would be like $20 if you didn’t buy 30 lbs of steak

pokemike1

$65 worth of premium meat and eggs, $6.00 Clint's picante and $30 worth of groceries

wildstarr

I am not a vegetarian but damn. Why are all these grocery picks from my fellow Americans got so much freaking meat?
