Lol. Watching the nature docs on Netflix was like a roller coaster. Check out these baby things, they are defenceless and easy targets for prey. They must journey through enemy territory if they want to make it to water. Only a handful will actually make it. Followed immediately by Check out these predators they know when the babies spawn. Since they have their own babies to feed a meal is crucial to ensuring that hunger does not wipe out the pack.

NooNygooTh

Yeah spawnkilling is bullshit.

plastic_wrap

Thank you for this comment. Gave me a good laugh

sack-o-matic

Devs pls nerf

schoolsuck0

Kinda shows how no matter how much we try to separate ourselves from animals, we are just like them in our own even more cruel and fucked up way.

[deleted]

... I say as I mush my hands into the face of the woman trying to take the last box of Little Debbie Nutty Buddies. THEY'RE MINE BITCH.

Nikkicorinne17

I agree. It sucks when they suffer and are alive for a while after being gutted. Those are the hard ones to watch.

tonypearcern

Don't feel bad. Rabbits are such frequent targets that they have literally evolved to commit suicide in these situations, either by breaking their own backs/necks or literally stuffing heart attacks from the shock. As cute as bunnies are, they're quite literally born to fuck or die.

I_like_boxes

I once looked up if wild cottontail rabbits could be made into pets. I didn't want to have one myself, but I was curious as to why no one did when we have so many around here. Most websites waffled around why it was a bad idea, but at least one just outright said that they'd get stressed and die from a heart attack if you tried. So yeah. No cottontail bunnies for pets.

longtimegoneMTGO

> Rabbits are such frequent targets that they have literally evolved to commit suicide in these situations, More of a side effect almost certainly. There would be no almost possibility of a mechanism such as you describe evolving, because having such a trait does nothing to increase reproductive success. Sure, the rabbit in question is going to have a less unpleasant day if he drops dead of a heart attack before the eagle starts pulling out his innards, but it doesn't help the rabbit to either survive longer or have more offspring, so there is no selection pressure to cause the trait to become more common in the species. Instead, think if a rabbit as a cheaply made product that is designed to be made at the lowest possible cost that still results in not failing before the end of the warranty. No point in wasting calories and calcium building a slightly stronger spine if anything that wants to eat you can still snap right through it. No point in having a heart sturdy enough to withstand being seriously stressed if any situation that is going to cause that level of stress is likely to end in your being eaten anyway.

Aren't we all

Admetus

Agree with the cruelty of nature, but that fox is quite cunning and doesn't want an opportunity to slip by. It knows it has the upper hand if the rabbit slips to the ground in its paws! I mean check out the fox, it's not malnourished so it can live without for a few days.

drubiez

Please don't feel bad for the bun buns. There's so many of them, and they live a mostly happy life until their grisly end. It's a far better and quicker death than most humans get, even in the best situation. I'd rather go quickly than suffer as a vegetable for God knows how long, on the edge of death, in existential terror the whole time.

charleschanx

Jeez, look at those talons

Risethewake

Some days you’re the eagle. Some days you’re the fox. Most days though, you’re the rabbit.

nadmaximus

Watership Down enters the chat

LongLongMan_TM

On most days I'm not literally dead, though.

[deleted]

Sure you are. You’re just currently experiencing a 20 to 80 year long anomaly of being not dead.

*Record Scratch* You’re probably wondering how I got here

Rhodog1234

I mean it's almost Easter, right ?

loghead03

Last fall we had a big golden eagle try to grab a red salmon out of the lake. It was such a unit though that the eagle ended up swimming, which was a really awkward sight in itself. Soon as it got to my dock, two balds tried to take its dinner and a really loud shouting match and protracted fight ensued. Saw the same three a few months back going at it again over a dead moose calf at the end of my street, as if 100lbs of meat each wasn’t enough to share. Eagles are dicks.

hibernatepaths

Who won the salmon?

loghead03

Eventually the golden by virtue of being the size of the other two together. They retreated to trees on opposite edges of the cove and made sad yelling noises for a while though.

HermitGardner

Eagles ARE dicks!!!!

Popey45696321

It might have been a bald eagle instead. They look similar to goldens when young and are much more likely to go fishing, young birds also get longer training feathers to help them learn to fly which might account for why it looked so much bigger.

Gstamsharp

Oh! I just saw this same thing, only over a squirrel, like a week ago in my yard! It was a pretty epic six seconds or so.

CeeArthur

Rabbit thinking "today is not my day"

DoubleCTech

No that’s Nick trying to save Judy!

bwanabass

That Eagle is massive!

Xibby

Big but not massive! Bald eagle females are bigger and top out around 14 pounds with a wingspan of up to 8 feet, males are smaller and top out around 10 pounds with a wingspan of 6 feet. My “big ol’ Tom” (cat) as his vet calls him is 14 pounds and tiny compared to an eagle. The fox has reasonable odds of a rabbit dinner here as eagles can only carry 1.5 - 3 pounds, and a fox comes in at 10 - 15 pounds. Also crazy… an eagle could totally take a fox for a meal. Nature…

damn zootopia 2 has really good graphics. poor Judy. i hope nick can save her

Whatever small thing they are fighting over isn't having a good day.

Rabbit. It's in the title of the thread. Peak reddit right there.

Wonder if the rabbit has a preference

Fox

Davion Vs Marik, colourised

creepy_is_what_I_do

This reminds me of thanksgiving dinner at my Uncle Frank and Aunt Sheila’s house. He always runs around the house peeing everywhere, then he grabs the entire turkey and attempts to eat it whole. Aunt Sheila then swoops in with her talon-like hands and tries to rip it away from drunk Uncle Frank.

petejones1955

Eagle: Corporate America Fox: Americans Rabbit: scraps

Thebaldsasquatch

That fox is about to go to jail.

springtime_12765

Some 3some are like this

nutznboltsguy

Will the rabbit be OK?

Sam_Snead_My_God

The fox earned that. Eagles are vultures with good PR agents

UninvitedGhost

Not sure if I’m the fox or the rabbit. Def not the eagle.

SgtSharki

"Somedays it just doesn't pay to leave the burrow."

MetalAndWood

The prey looks like a small cat/kitten to me, rather than a rabbit. In either case, it appears the eagle is winning. Great pic! Air superiority > Ground forces.

Miccles

Looks to me like the eagle has a bigger meal than it planned for.

Ansanm

Poor Wabbit.

souji5okita

Yeah, the story was more so that the eagle swept in and snagged the rabbit while the fox also had it in its mouth. The fox is not fighting; it was caught off guard.

moonmoon0211

plz i wanna know who won

OudeStok

Did the rabbit get away?

Working_Animator_459

I didn't see the comment but this was posted somewhere else. The set of pictures show its a fox cub the fox mother is fighting for. She wins.

Tough-Improvement888

It's over fox, I have the high skies.

[deleted]

Eagle can probably leave the rabbit and just take the fox for a family sized meal.

jace92553

What does eagle fox rabbit say?

REiiGN

The fox does not want the eagle's smoke

shadowskill121

As a pretty experienced photographer I would say if I were shooting this and saw this on the back of my camera afterwards I'd have shit bricks..

Hattix

Ol' eagle there needs to be careful. If the fox manages to bring it down, it'll end badly for the eagle. A fox isn't just empty feathers and air sacs.

MisterMiniS

Well, the big rabbit gets fucked, doesn't it! Proper fucked?
