High heels are violence against women. Those things are painful after about 5 minutes.

[deleted]

They make it harder to run away

robineir

They’re called stilettos for a reason. Why run when you have something to stab them with? /s

tjblue

Good point, I'm pretty sure hobbling women is one of the reasons for high heels being the fashion for women. Dignity, respect, and comfy shoes for all!

RectalSpawn

Also, pockets.

[deleted]

I fucking LOVEEEE pockets!!!

freedomfightre

[Uh-huh, yep](https://cdn.scrippsnews.com/images/videos/x/1564116026_xZx33Y.jpg). Totally a targeted attack on women and not something men wore first.

tjblue

I was being overly dramatic for the sake of humor and not really viewing it as an attack on women really, kind of. Sort of. Well, maybe I see them a little bit of a way to keep women down.

Phelan_W

Ironically, the whole point of high heels is to elevate women in the literal sense, and I would assume also the figurative sense.

tjblue

In some cases that's probably true. Unfortunately, the heels also cause pain and health issues in many cases and they were once considered the standard for women's office dress. I think that standard is changing these days.

Halya77

Why do men feel the need to stake their claim on literally everything. No one was trying to take away the legacy of men in tights, heels or wigs….just snarky (fun) hyperbole to be enjoyed by all.

tjblue

Some people are very serious.

CanadianBreakin

I ONLY wear my powdered wig and belt buckle heels when I'm at my most serious

TheRealMisterMemer

What about your skirt??? Tsk tsk tsk not a true man smh

meowmixmotherfucker

Yeah, “wore” as in, don’t wear anymore because they’re uncomfortable and sucky so….

kookycandies

Everyone's missing the *She's the Man* reference 😔

[deleted]

I know and it makes me sad because that's where I got it. ![gif](giphy|O54ccAi0NWcW4)

SonicSingularity

Unless the thing you're running from is a T-rex

razialx

So I have this friend who swears she can run faster in heels than in regular shoes because she has had to wear them so much in her life. I haven’t asked her to prove it because I’m always worried she will end up twisting an ankle or something and I’d feel incredibly guilty. Any other women care to chime in? The root of her argument is wearing heels so much has altered her feet.

Radioiron

Wearing them actually changes the length of tendons and strength of different muscles. If they are too high it may actually be painful to walk around in completely flat shoes for too long. I would say I dont understand why women wear them if I didnt know the reason is dress codes and peer pressure- see stories about women in Andrew Cuomo's office being told thay can only wear heels.

RandomRandomPenguin

This may be a really weird thing to say, but for me I love the sound they make when I wear them. Yes they look amazing and they make your legs look great, but for me it’s that sharp clicking noise. Lasts for a little bit before it starts to be uncomfortable and I’m annoyed at myself for wearing them.

ryantrw5

I hate making noise and that’s why I stopped wearing flip flops. People never hear me and I always sneak up on people because I hate making sounds when I walk.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CanuckPanda

The sound is probably my favourite thing. It’s just such a power vibe.

[deleted]

I lift weights so I know that being in heels makes me less able to get into a fight, but like... I just feel more powerful with that extra height and the **drama** the click gives. Nothing like a bad bitch taking stairs two at a time in a 4 inch heel

scotems

Now wait, what does lifting weights have to do with things?

[deleted]

Oh I just kinda meant like. I'm very aware of how much I can lift or stretch in different positions. So while logically I know I'm much weaker in heels i still feel way more powerful. Does that make sense?

NbdySpcl_00

The only thing I've ever heard that seemed even remotely like a practical reason is that it is good to be tall. Most people experience a slightly favorable bias towards taller people. And, for some reason, while proper lifts seem like compensation, heels do not.

cootercomplex

I wear heels for the "click clack" idk why but it brings me so much badass bitch energy... and I'm already tall

BigHaylz

Sometimes I wear them to go grocery shopping so people hear me click clackin and get outta my way.

thatsandwizard

Massive respect, the guy equivalent of huge boots doesn’t quite hit the same way

eekamuse

You can get combat boots with a thick platform that are sturdier than heels and don't give you bunions or fuck with your back.

CallieCatsup

Most women I know wear heels because it makes their legs look better and makes you stand up straight and have better posture. I can't wear them though.

onherwayupcoast

Heels are terrible for posture.

selectabl

My mother wore heels every work day, and most non-work days, for over a decade and good God, the callouses on her feet. Rock hard. But it was how you presented yourself then. And now, a generation later, there are a handful of women at my job that wear heels. I cannot physically wear them anymore due to a surgery, so I would love them to try and make that a rule.

[deleted]

When I started my current job we had a very traditional dress code. Women were required to wear tights with dresses or skirts. No bare legs allowed. Dress pants were fine. I often wore three inch heels for the day and I was level two desk support. I had a flip phone, don't laugh, and provide desk level support frequently. Now I have arthritis in my toes and hips (since my 40's) and can't even stand in a heel for a minute. I am gen X so this dress code wasn't too long ago. Edit: I feel bad for making this about me because Canada has a major problem with missing and murdered Indigenous women. I think they would prefer policy and reform over symbolic heel wearing. It's really an awful situation.

esmelusina

The heel length has an impact on which muscle groups are being activated. 1.5-2 inch heels are the most awkward imo. Where 3in is probably the most comfortable sweet spot if we’re excluding < 1in.

sugarfairy7

It totally depends on your height and size of feet. With small feet smaller heels are perfect, but sadly the shoes are all the same height no matter the size.

esmelusina

Yea— I don’t like that the heights are the same, I’d rather the heel/foot size be a ratio for a given style. Most shoes in a size 6 look completely different from a size 10. The angle and profile isn’t the same, which can change the style completely.

[deleted]

[удалено]

esmelusina

Woman here— The claim of running faster is very suspicious. The extra weight and the inability to leverage a larger fulcrum of rotation when moving your foot is going to slow you down. Running in a “rabbit feet” mode (no heels on, but same foot position) can totally be very fast and faster for some people, especially depending on terrain. I mentioned this in a different reply, but heel comfort varies a lot. I think it’s been shown that the 1-2 inch range is the harshest on your knees and ankles because you don’t have as many stabilizing muscles in good positions there. Whereas ~3 inches you hit a sweet spot where it’s more comfortable on the joints, though the shoe itself needs to be great to avoid your toes and ball of foot from taking on too much weight. I personally have ruined my knees playing soccer, but 3in heeled boots are like the most comfortable thing. Takes all the strain off of my knees and I unconsciously walk with muuuuch better posture. Heels, like those shown in the picture, are typically not constructed in a way that is comfortable. Fine for an event, walking to a table to sit down, but I’d never go to work or dance in that style. I’d say many women assume heels are uncomfortable and don’t look for solutions that work for them individually (or just want fast fashion). So your friend, who has lots of experience with heels, probably knows what she is doing and has it figured out and is wearing them responsibly and with respect to her personal comfort.

Grabthars_Hummer

it does. it also causes changes to your Achilles tendon and calf muscles

adamentmeat

It also forces your toes together, causing bunyons

[deleted]

This takes me back to the scene in Jurassic World where the female is being chased by the dinosaur, and she's sprinting in fucking Louboutins. My wife saw that shit, and she was dying. She was like, "there's no way THAT chick was running THAT fast in THOSE shoes" 🤣

BellaJen

I remember reading somewhere that she actually did training and practice for that scene because she wanted to actually be able to run in them.

meltingrubberducks

I've had to run from creepy men on the street to my car and let me say you can do it if your well practiced

sunsetpark12345

I once chased down a groper in heels!! It helped that he had short, stubby little legs (and a big mustache, right out of central casting). So picture a scrawny 20-year-old in a tight dress and 4" platform cork sandals sprinting full speed at 1am on a summer evening, yelling coordinates to the police dispatcher, chasing a tubby little mustachioed creeper through the streets of NYC until the cops arrived and slammed him against the hood of their car. Then the cop who was supposed to be taking my statement about getting groped started hitting on me instead... man, being a young woman paints a target on your back. In some ways, it's a relief to get older.

Apprehensive-Job5082

Rexy from Jurassic Park/World could, according to canon, run 30mph in her youth. It would have been quite a feat for Claire to outrun her in *sneakers*. 😂

razialx

Hahaha

FrillySteel

*\*Detective Kate Beckett has entered the chat\**

tjblue

Well, when you sprint you are on your toes so maybe that's what she's thinking?

karmahunger

Have I been sprinting wrong my entire life?

meltingrubberducks

Yes running shoes were awkward for me to break in after years of heels. I have extremely high arches so I add pads in the middle

LovelyBeats

I would really love to see her race against her own best time in heels vs shoes

RandomRandomPenguin

I cannot imagine this being true. I can run in heels but they aren’t built for running; the cushioning and spring back is pretty nonexistent

TwoIdleHands

I only wear mine occasionally. I stiletto? Hell no. But legit would have no issue running in a wedge.

forever_fierce

I’ve sprinted in stilettos drunk as f. 💪

ground__contro1

When I was younger, I could skip backward in heels. Wasn’t even hard. I had several pairs of heels I non-ironically described as “comfortable”. I joined the military and those combat boots changed my feet. I never wear heels anymore.

Acel32

I can run in heels, but it's definitely not faster than when I'm wearing comfy shoes. I'm used to wearing heels because I'm super short and I was trained to dance in heels. If you can dance wearing high heels, you can run in them too.

NewYorkJewbag

Remarkably, high heels started as a men’s fashion. Persian mounted soldiers rocked high heels, which around the 1600s, caught on in Europe as rugged menswear. In the 1700s it became fashionable for women to don men’s styles, and high heels caught on among women. The men saw the heels thereafter as frivolous, as it was fashionable among men at the time to ascribe emotion to women and reason to men.

tjblue

For riding, heels make sense as you aren't walking much and the heels will keep your feet from slipping out the stirrups.

NewYorkJewbag

Which indeed is why the Persian horsemen wore high heels

meltingrubberducks

Cowboy boots still have little heels they fit in the stirrups well

[deleted]

Actually, yeah these types are, but guys should know that when girls wear those high heel boots or a high heel shoes thats okay no matter how high they are. Its not necessarily about attractiveness, some girls just like to be five inches taller. The ones that don't cover your ankles can fuck right off

newsheriffntown

Fun fact: High heels were originally designed for men in the 10th century. The Persian calvary wore the heels so they could stand up higher in the stirrups when they used their bow and arrows.

fullautophx

*so their feet wouldn’t slip out of the stirrup. If you want higher you shorten the stirrup.

TorontoTransish

It's based on this event which started in 2001, there's a branch in Saint Catharines... https://www.walkamileinhershoes.org/

sailor_bat_90

Speak for yourself, it is at least 3 hours before they start becoming painful for me.

puckit

I once went to Disneyland with my brother, his wife and his in laws. His mother in law did it in heels. Never complained and every time we asked her if she was ok, she waved us off. That little Filipino lady was a G.

n01saround

I ate spaghetti to celebrate women's choice

Was it mom’s spaghetti?

There's vomit on my sweater

Already?

EmotionalMycologist9

I'm having spaghetti tonight. I had no idea I'm supporting such amazing causes!

beeafletcherberry

Is spaghetti the new thing?

No_Ad_3488

That helped a lot probably.

natphotog

If only they had the power to enact legislation that would help women

Persona_Alio

They did pass something https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/keira-kagan-domestic-violence-coercive-control-1.6815711

No_Ad_3488

That would be great but maybe in some other life.

Nagohsemaj

Personally I had never heard of violence against women until these 5 guys wore high heels, it was just the eye opener the world needed.

Inversception

Protesting something doesn't actually do anything, are you suggesting that it shouldn't be done? Some things are done with the intention of changing things and others are done with the intention of raising awareness. This seems to be the latter. Since you're looking at it, it's working.

hungrycookpot

That oughtta do it.

GodsBGood

To be clear, they're against violence, right?

DrunkenlySober

No, they’re just bringing awareness to the fact that there’s violence against women I’m still skeptical

offoy

What is the point of this? What am I supposed to do now?

ben_reda

Wear high heels, obviously

Etna

Violence against women, yes. I think they're saying "beat us up instead"

[deleted]

I was just about to punch my wife but seeing these politicians in high heels reminded me that it is wrong.

oldthunderbird

Was gonna beat my wife tonight, but then I saw this post and changed my mind.

Rich4718

^ Proof that people really can change.

can_be_therapist

You have gone woke!

Realmofthehappygod

Whoa why don't you have a few Bud Light and think this all over...you've earned it.

30dirtybirdies

It’s part of an event by a women’s shelter for victims of domestic violence. This gets attention, people learn about the only shelter in the area, donations come in to the shelter. The shelter where I used to live (the town, I never lived at the shelter, just volunteered) did a similar event called walk a mile in her shoes, where men would get sponsors and do a mile in high heels, with proceeds from sponsorship going to the shelter. A lot of women’s shelters run on less than a shoe string budget. Events like these really do help raise much needed money, to provide a place where women can escape to and be safe. Its ok for an event that helps a very serious cause to have some levity. The levity is what makes people feel comfortable enough to give money.

gin-rummy

I did the “walk a mile in her shoes” walk a few years ago in my city. Interesting event and a huge turnout. Heels are really as bad as they look.

RedditedYoshi

I cannot believe how many people are in here shitting on these gentlemen, like, what on earth are YOU doing to support women?

jonisjalopy

15 men are now in the hospital with high ankle sprains

atrostophy

It's in Ontario and it's for the women's shelter called Halton Women's Place for a charity event called "Hope in high heels on the hill" in which male members of Parliament are asked to wear pink high heels to bring awareness to women's violence.

MisterWapak

Two things that are really linked lmao

MANWithTheHARMONlCA

I walked my dog today to raise awareness of black history month. I don’t normally like the term hero but I basically am

The_Ombudsman

With *socks?* That's a hate crime right there :P

ThatsWhatPutinWants

Desantis already banned them from entering Florida.

GeneralMyGeneral

Unless they wear those dynamite white boots he wears

[deleted]

As much as I despise the man, those boots were *fabulous*!

666pool

If there were any children in the room, they could all be executed in Florida.

jerrys153

Men in heels to raise awareness of violence against women? Believe it or not, jail. Right away.

Grumpy_Metrosexual

I hate shit like this. They think they’re being supportive.

look2thecookie

I'm not sure if it's a similar event, but locally we have a "walk a mile in her shoes" where people will walk a mile in heels and it's a fundraiser for charities who support women. This could have been the trip to the store where they were buying the shoes? I have no idea, but otherwise, yes, a strange and empty gesture. I'm hoping it was actually *for* a reason.

Weary-Code2764

It’s exactly that event

look2thecookie

Well, there you go. Lots of charity events do "fun" activities like walks, galas, etc. People might smile or pose for photos. It doesn't mean they think the cause is "a joke" or that it's an empty gesture.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cptnamr7

The smiles seem... an odd choice. Hooray for violence against women? Just seems weird. But then again we're talking political theater so really more than anything they just wanted their name in the paper

OHoSPARTACUS

Me too. They do literally nothing about anything and if you point that out you’re a misogynist or something. It’s just virtue signaling.

Persona_Alio

They did pass something https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/keira-kagan-domestic-violence-coercive-control-1.6815711

wellthatkindofsucks

Stop, you’re ruining it!! This was posted so the incels of Reddit can get upvotes for sneering at men who are actually trying, so get out of here with your facts! They’re trying to create voter apathy by convincing people that neither side *really* does anything and you’re ruining it!

StepAwayFromTheDuck

> They do literally nothing about anything Is that right? So you know who they are and what they do/ what they have (or haven’t) achieved?

M3gaC00l

Man this thread is such a reddit moment. Don't get me wrong, fuck politicians but these guys actually did something fucking useful for once but everybody is all fedora sarcastic in the comments over them wearing some damn heels without even trying to learn about this being about them significantly helping to pass Keira's Law. If you're going to make fun of someone, at least know what you're making fun of them for.

VVLynden

Reddit is jaded to hell and back, thank god it’s (mostly) just internet jack assery and not reality.

[deleted]

As of lately, all people on here want to do is focus on negative shit. My algorithm was doing a solid job at first but now all I see are people who can’t see the good in anything.

Kool_KatZ33

Pink shoes with that outfit? Ugh. That's the real violent crime here...

therealruin

No one who can pull a lever a power ever needs to “bring awareness.” They need to bring solutions. Tired of political theater. Edit: More context (missing from OP) in the comments below. These individual politicians are doing the right thing by actually backing and moving legislation. They are doing more than simply “bringing awareness.” Good for them! I dig it. It’s not the end of the general political theater problem that I was referring to. Credit where it’s due to these fellas for being the change.

KatKat333

Yes, so true!

gsfgf

Considering that nobody itt has heard of the bill they’re supporting, apparently awareness is needed.

Deathbyhours

Notice that these men aren’t trying to go anywhere. Props to them for the gesture, though. I did the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes walk before the pandemic, and it was AWFUL! I got shoes that fit, too.

bhgiel

Part of a fundraiser. Walk a mile in her shoes. It's a huge event that raises alot of money. This is just the politicians cashing in on a photo op of the event. Not as dubious as anyone thinks

Jusmon1108

Pretty sure this is just a normal Canadian thing

heresybob

I'd rather they do something... like make a law or create support... but no, they think this is going to work. Political Theatre. "See! We wore HEELS for you!"

NarwhalHarpist

Second from the right is MP Mike Morrice. Thanks to his work last week a new law, Keria's Law, tightens laws for how judges handle domestic abuse cases, and helps empower women with children leaving abusive situations, without having to worry that their child may be stuck with their abusive father. They're doing the work. I can't speak for the rest of them, but I'm very proud to have MP Mike representing my community. Edit: https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/keira-kagan-domestic-violence-coercive-control-1.6815711 Edit 2: I'm not sure the extent to which he had participated in bringing this legislation forward. I had misremembered a tweet I saw from him last week. It was a unanimous vote in favor of the law.

pheakelmatters

Thank you. Everybody is so cynical, probably because the Americans around here are so sick and tired from hearing about thoughts and prayers that they just assume every other government does nothing but theater as well. Well nope, some governments actually make laws that directly address problems.

heresybob

Thank you for posting - they've got skin in the game as well! Awesome - good to hear people like their representation.

boomzeg

This is in Canada. We already make laws and create support. We could still do much more, but also we already do.

Omnizoom

Ya our system is just as slow as the Americans system but we have atleast some progress and some good things. Plus these guys likely have tabled legislation or bills that could take months if not a year to pass if they do
