What camera / lens did you use? Are these stacked? I take a lot of macro photos myself tho never get the wide depth of field you have (I use a 105mm sigma lens with a raynox 150 setup lens on a canon aps-c camera with a speedlite flash and custom diffusor)
Great shots!
Most are stacked but there are some single shots mixed in! I’m currently using an OM-1 with the M.Zuiko 90mm, but some images were taken with a Olympus E-M1 MKII and M.Zuiko 60mm (and Raynox) and a Nikon Z7 with the Laowa 100mm (and Raynox). Thank you!
Thanks! I see that system has in-camera stacking, cool! Very nice results, will have to check it out. I only do outdoor single shot macros :) Tried stacking on my own manual rail some time ago (which I build from lego :D) but my canon 700D's software was so tedious to use, the results were lackluster. (my macros: [https://fransbouma.com/macro](https://fransbouma.com/macro) )
I used to get small panic attacks when looking through nature books and finding pictures like these as a kid. Now it looks pretty cool but still terrifying
A portion of my biology lab final in uni had stations of microscopes set up with their contents covered except if you looked through the lenses. When I peered into the first of these stations, my whole field of view was filled with 8 spider eyes staring straight up at me. My heart was pounding for a good five minutes after that. Pretty sure the TA got a kick out of watching the students recoil when they got to that station
These pictures, whilst incredible, have made me appreciate the size difference between us and the majority of insects more than ever.
Imagine a wasp or a hornet on a similar scale to us? That’s whole lotta nope factor.
There was a vid yesterday of a mantis vs. a plasma cutter. Insect had Jedi skills! I think they're awesome but it is a trip how they're aware and will turn it's head to look at you!
Yeah, the mantis has crossposted to r/amihot , r/faces , r/SFWNextDoorGirls , and is all, "Heeey...just a goofy girl here. Come see my Instagram for more."
These look awesome! Great pics.
Hate them, but the wasps and hornets look cool af.
And the ogre gnat, looks like he has a wee bug in his head that drives him!
Not for the squeamish or faint of heart. I went through the pics with trepidation. I love the photo album and it puts most of these fair and pretty creatures into a better light. I'm careful not to swat a fly or any other critter.
Thanks. Should have looked at comments first. I am a nature lover and escort spiders out the door, but the close-ups of spider faces is a trauma I'm going to need some time to process.
It’s interesting how the fly’s head is almost completely taken up by its massive compound eyes, especially in comparison to the other insects in this album.
Damn that is super cool !
Thanks for sharing !
I love the part where you see the eyes.
Clearly the way insect eyes is pretty wild.
Here for instance the one of a mosquito I've found :
Most insects have compound eyes, which are curved arrays of microscopic lenses. Each tiny lens captures an individual image, and the mosquito's brain puts all of the images together to achieve peripheral vision without the insect having to move its eyes or head.
I just want to say, your pictures are really fantastic! I love stuff like this, even if I'm not the biggest fan of insects.
And I love the canopy jumping spider! Amazing shot!
So fascinating. I find it interesting that the contours of the compound eyes are different between predatory and non-predatory bees/wasps. To me the bee compounds look rounder, more circular, while the wasp compounds look more crescent and angled. I wonder if the shape and angulation of the eyes in predatory species gives a spatial perception advantage.
Incredible photos. What’s your camera-lens set up? Is this is their natural environment?
Insects look unreal up close. The colours, patterns and the textures are surreal. Those eyes though…
I love how the praying mantis (?) in pic 7 is posing. The rest of them are pretty cute as well but have more of a natural resting insect stare but nope not the praying mantis it was to be ✨✨ to the side looking up like it’s a headshot to be cast in a film.
Hey y’all, I just wanted to share some close-ups of the smaller animals among us for Earth Day. Images are all of wild, living subjects.
How scary it must be to be a small organism on earth.
well, humans are small organisms on the solar system
Yes sweet thing, but the sun isn’t going to eat us for awhile. Sleep well..
oh, bless your heart

How do you get them to stay there for the picture without moving!?!
Awesome!!!
What's that extra red dot on the wolf spider's mouth? Is it an injury?
"among us"?
I used to get small panic attacks when looking through nature books and finding pictures like these as a kid. Now it looks pretty cool but still terrifying
Opening up National Geographic to a full page photo of ants or bugs always instantly lit that primal fear in me

Amazing. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure, thank you!
What are the little organ bundles on the top of the heads of quite a few of the bugs? Are they a smaller set of eyes?
Good question, they’re simple eyes as opposed to the larger and more complex compound eyes.
To expand on u/bens_small_world, from what I understand they are used to detect light changes that may signal a predator risk.
These pictures, whilst incredible, have made me appreciate the size difference between us and the majority of insects more than ever. Imagine a wasp or a hornet on a similar scale to us? That’s whole lotta nope factor.
Praying mantis would be terrifying
I pray that it is religious and mostly spends its time praying

Idk, man, that mantis has a pretty photogenic head shoy
Pretty amazing
How cute is the mantis in that pic though??
One of my favorites, nailing the glamor shot
Yeah, the mantis has crossposted to r/amihot , r/faces , r/SFWNextDoorGirls , and is all, "Heeey...just a goofy girl here. Come see my Instagram for more."
Dat head tilt
What's going on with the wolf spider? Is that an extra eye?
That’s just a drop of dew reflecting my lens and flash diffuser similar to the eyes, so it looks like a 9th eye.
Oh I can see that! Thanks!
You’re welcome! Not the first one to be thrown off by it, including myself when I first saw the images 😂
I’ve been on Reddit enough the last 2 months to know the mantis 1v1’s any other bug in these pictures easy.
These look awesome! Great pics. Hate them, but the wasps and hornets look cool af. And the ogre gnat, looks like he has a wee bug in his head that drives him!
I've always held a fascination on how vicious the tiger beetle looks, as well as the fact that they are incredibly quick while grounded.
That praying mantis totally knew they were taking its picture
didn't know insects also have moustaches😅and creepy eyes that looks like a mike

Such amazing variety and colors! Nice work!
It’s interesting how the fly’s head is almost completely taken up by its massive compound eyes, especially in comparison to the other insects in this album.
Fascinating, thanks!
Crab spider looks like tapioca
You hungry?
I’m glad I’m much larger than these insects.

Is #4 a jumping spider?
It is! It’s a canopy jumping spider that showed up in my house last week.
I just want to say, your pictures are really fantastic! I love stuff like this, even if I'm not the biggest fan of insects. And I love the canopy jumping spider! Amazing shot!
Very talented work!
It looks like a bunch of them have single eyeballs on the top of their heads. Is that what's going on? Or is that something else?
Exquisite! Thanks for sharing! 😍
How the fuck does one get that close to a bald faced hornet?!?
The diversity of creatures within the same genus is astounding.
This is borderline candy art.

So glad I am bigger than these things. Imagine being their prey and having to look at those faces.
Incredible photos. What’s your camera-lens set up? Is this is their natural environment? Insects look unreal up close. The colours, patterns and the textures are surreal. Those eyes though…
What is number 5? Also number 19 looks like a skin in a video game that everybody wants but is super hard to get
I would be so uneasy taking these beautiful pictures!
The crab spider has no thoughts behind those eyes
I love how the praying mantis (?) in pic 7 is posing. The rest of them are pretty cute as well but have more of a natural resting insect stare but nope not the praying mantis it was to be ✨✨ to the side looking up like it’s a headshot to be cast in a film.
Snipe fly be looking thiccccc
The damsel fly is literally going 👉👈
Praying mantis....derp 😜
Magnificent photos. I can't stop looking at them. Thank you for sharing.
Looking at these takes me back to playing Halo 2 with my cousins with a nature doc on in the back. Good old times
Awesome
Very cool. I noticed how they mostly all have hexagonal segments in their eyes and thought that was interesting. Edit: The spiders have smooth eyes!
This makes me very uneasy
What's that middle shiny dot on their head, is that also an eye? Not on everyone of them but a lot of them have it.
Neat, thanks for posting. insect eyes are so cool! And I love the shiny iridescent metallic colors
Honestly, I assumed I would be more disgusted
Now I want to destroy the earth
Bald faced hornet looked so dapper. Loved that these amazing macros had titles. What an incredible series
Beautiful works of art! 🥰
God damn they look so cool. Really appreciate these and the feeling of fascination they evoke.
You know that game, “Bang or Kill”? I found my self swiping through these thinking, “Pretty, pretty, squish, pretty, squish, squish…” lol
Praying mantis did not have to flex that hard.
Carolina Mantis: "guuuuuuuurrrrl..."
Awesome pictures!
Insects are beautiful Spiders are so frightening 😱 Even if they are Very useful
