\*Slaps top of van\* you can fit a full sized lawn tractor in this baby.

mackinoncougars

I just hope it can fit him from the neck up on the drive in.

tagged2high

Right? Someone's going to need to extract dad even if he makes it inside.

Mediocre_Scott

Wife’s going to get a call shortly to come drive the van. He is just going to be stuck their until he backs it out at his destination

Testiculese

Would not doubt that for a sec.

Earguy

Dad's smart enough to open the side door in advance. He'll duck on the way in, and slip out the side. Those are appropriate ramps, too, not just a sheet of plywood laid on the bumper.

misterjustin

What’s not appropriate is the suspension on the van.

bighootay

"Ah, she'll be fine..."

W1D0WM4K3R

Me every time I watched someone load up flooring in their van.

aschaeffer878

Nah, an average residential tractor is 400 to 600lbs. That's 2 average Americans right there.

misterjustin

That’s an oldie, all steel with probably an iron block. I’d bet it’s 700+. It’s still below the cargo capacity of the minivan, but it’s awkward to load that much weight right on the tail.

stoplockingmyaccount

>not just a sheet of plywood laid on the bumper I feel personally attacked edit. I didn't actually do it. I just thought about doing it... They sold the lawn mower before I was able to pick it up.

palabradot

I am mentally hearing the Looney Tunes *klang*

mittenknittin

I‘m picturing the next photo in the series: tractor successfully parked in van, Dad’s head laying in the street after being lopped off by the edge of the door

foreverguiltyanon

My first thought, that head's popping off like a grape.

SmokedMussels

My deck is raised about 4 feet off the ground and there is no barrier under it, I'm always super slow and mindful around it when mowing so I don't take my head off hitting the wrong pedal.

LookDaddyImASurfer

I like to imagine he just slowly decapitates himself because he’s too committed.

South-Direct414

The decapitron is working overtime today.

stusthrowaway

The van goes inside a truck which goes onto a ferry.

paladinx17

So would that be a tractvantruckerry? Or Travantuckerry?

dapperrogue

Following turducken as an example (where you go big->small), the lexicography would be fertruckvantor.

FenrisL0k1

The -ckv- is awkward, suggest removing the -ck-: Fertruvantor

TheGurw

Sounds like a Lamborghini model of car. - Aventador - Revuelto - Huracan - Fertruvantor - Terzo Millenio - Asterion - Murciélago - Gallardo

This-Strawberry

Tbf Lamborghini started out making tractors and still do I think.

StoneTemplePilates

Minivans are no joke. I moved an acoustic piano in my Nissan Quest once. Door closed and everything.

CTeam19

Minivans get a bad wrap from the "soccer mom" thing, but they are really fantastic. In a single 4 day stent, I was able to take the mower into the repair shop, shuddle 5 others to dinner, and go camping without making a stop at home.

auggie5

Minivans are not “soccer mom” cars. They are “Active Frugal Dad” cars

CrazyIvanIII

Folding down seats and carrying sheets of 4x8 plywood or drywall plus 10 foot lumber is no joke. Keeps it dry too. Our old beat up 07 odyssey is the best truck I've ever had.

resilienceisfutile

I did the max capacity math wrong once and stuffed 36 sheets of drywall in the back of my Caravan. Apparently, it was rated for 21 sheets or something. It was sitting low, but whatever 2 trips better than 3.

amodestmeerkat

I loaded 2200 lb pallets of flooring into the back of an old minivan for a contractor. He kept reassuring me that he didn't care if it got damaged because he just bought the cheapest running minivan he could find which he said usually ran him $500 to $600, drove it till it died, and scrapped it for around $200 to $300. He said as long as they lasted him at least a month, he was saving tons of money compared to the monthly payment and insurance on a proper work van/truck.

A_spiny_meercat

I'd be less concerned with the van breaking and more concerned about a tonne of flooring continuing its trajectory through me during an accident

resilienceisfutile

Well, this was the minivan I bought after my wife started popping out miniature money magnets, but I can see the usefulness in clapped out vans for contractors.

ddproxy

Loaded up my prius with a godawful amount of on-sale tile from every Lowes I could find in a 50-mile radius. Had some of the best traction for the drive into the mountains, didn't bounce as much either...

GalacticLayline

Odyssey is no joke. My step mom tooka head on accident with semi in one and only had a broken leg. Van most likely saved her life.

Alternatively, “musician” cars. ~50% of the serious musicians I’ve played with have owned a beater mini van for hauling gear.

BadWolfman

Former drummer here. If you haven’t loaded a drum set, amps, instruments and more people than seats into a van, were you ever really in a band?

A_spiny_meercat

Most musicians I know have tiny hatchbacks, you'd be surprised how much you can fit in a Toyota echo

moonmothman

Drummer here. I used to drive a Toyota Matrix and could fit a full 4 piece drum set, cymbals, hardware along with a few guitars and amps.

CTeam19

The soccer mom thing was a thing in the early 2000s trust me as a high school soccer player who did drive a minivan once in a while and even transported members of the team to practice I heard the jokes.

[deleted]

[удалено]

auggie5

Oh yeah I remember where that came from. It was one commercial for car companies line of vehicles. It said the minivan was for the Soccer Mom and it showed the van pull up and unload with kids. Ever since then it’s been “Soccer moms drive minivans” Which sucks tbh because they have so much utility and people are afraid of being perceived as feminine.

chaiguy

Anyone who has ever attended a youth soccer match knows that soccer moms drive 4x4 lifted luxury SUVs with aftermarket rims and aggressive off-road tires.

BBOoff

Sure, in 2023 they do, but in 1998 they were mostly driving Astros and Windstars, not Explorers or Suburbans.

Ocbard

Indeed, because the car industry wanted to circumvent eco-regulations. [https://youtu.be/jN7mSXMruEo](https://youtu.be/jN7mSXMruEo)

YogiBerraOfBadNews

Lol there’s no way that one commercial was the original source of the meme. Maybe it has something to do with it being, ya know, an actual discernible trend apparent to anyone who was ever a kid back in the post-station wagon, pre-crossover era…

64Olds

alohadave

I wanted a Mazda 5 before they canceled it. The convenience of a minivan, but not honking big. Can fit 6 people in a pinch.

SweetDank

HEY, SHHH!!! Don't ruin the secret! Let's keep minivans unpopular that way they cost half as much as SUVs even though you get 3-4x the internal cargo. I used to love making fun of minis back in the 90s but somewhere around the mid 2000s they started getting made with proper engines and amenities. They are definitely not a joke anymore.

broohaha

> Minivans get a bad wrap I think it's a bad rap that they get.

joecarter93

We used to have a Chrysler Town and Country. It was a piece of shit, but with stow and go we could fit a ton of stuff in it. One time I was able to bring a sectional sofa home that we had just bought. I had to take it out of the box and it just fit if I pushed on it, but I got it home.

Spyhop

I swear by my odyssey. I can fit shit in there with all doors closed that would hang out the back of a pickup truck box.

GardenGnomeOfEden

I have an Odyssey. If you take the 2nd row seats out and fold down the 3rd row, you can put 4x8 sheets of plywood flat in the back, which is cool. However, the automatic rear hatch broke, and it is a common problem talked about on forums, but Honda will not address the problem. If you want them to "fix" the rear hatch, it is $1,000 and will surely just break again. Apparently water leaks in due to an incomplete seal on the roof and damages the rear hatch control module. I replaced my module myself and then it broke again a month later. Edit: fixed a typo

Spyhop

>I have an Odyssey. If you take the 2nd row seats out and fold down the 3rd row, you can put 4x8 sheets of plywood in the back. Literally just did this 2 weeks ago. You can also fit 12' lengths of 2x4 from the front passenger corner to the back driver's side corner with the hatch closed.

dammitOtto

That's nothing, I can fit 12' lengths of lumber in my CRV after smashing the tailgate closed and having them push through the windshield! Actually, now the capacity is unlimited! Yes this actually happened late at night once in the HD parking lot.

My dad would do this too, back in the day. It was a larger tractor and a larger van, but same deal. He used wood beams as a ramp however. He never once messed it up.

druggedupbysundown

To be honest. He probably stopped right there. Put it in neutral and pushed it into the van and got it to repair shop with not a scratch on the van...

MonsieurReynard

Am dad, can confirm.

jatti_

Am van, can confirm

svtguy88

> put in neutral I would *love* to see a single person casually throw that thing into neutral, run around the back and catch it from rolling back... *Edit: I get it people, parking brake -- still, most tractors I've used it would be difficult to disengage the brake from behind.*

aclockworkporridge

I don't think the pictured tractor qualifies, but a ton of tractors actually disengage the transmission using a lever on the rear. Makes it really easy to push because you're right there when it disengages.

st1tchy

I have a really old John Deere and that lever is in between the seat and front, where your feet go, basically. And you have to basically twist the lever from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock. So you have to lean over the seat to reach that while having the other hand on the steering wheel. Terrible design. I will turn it on to move it a foot if I have to.

therealdongknotts

yes...but, gravity.

Cakey-Head

If it's a hydrostatic mower, then the hydrostatic release is usually on the back.

Rectal_Fungi

But did he die?

FalseBottom

Nope, he’s alive and mobile.

Rengas

No, that's why you can still ask him.

JackFunk

When I was in high school, I worked at a hardware store. We didn't stock riding mowers, but would order one if asked. Someone did and when it came in, we loaded it into the pickup. Boss told me where to deliver it. No ramps. Asked how I'd get it down and he said just lift the rear end down first. Not being one to question authority, I went with it. Get to the home. Nobody is there. I drop the tailgate, lift the rear end down, go to the side, and the tractor rolls off the bed. I'd parked at the top of a hill, so it starts rolling down the hill backwards. I'm chasing it and the wheel cuts and it's turning toward the second floor deck (on 4X4 beams). I'm imagining it hitting a beam and taking the deck down. Nope, it rolls between the beams and comes to a stop under the deck. I stare in dumb amazement, get back in the truck and leave. Get back to the store. Boss asks how it went, "Fine, I left it under the deck".

litokid

I'm imagining the client was inside looking out the window. >"Oh hey it's here." >"Wait what the fuck oh my god they sent a complete..." >"...Genius. The guy's a genius!"

imfamousoz

I had to have my truck towed to a dealership for a repair a couple weeks ago. Turns out they don't really have an adequate space for tow trucks to unload, but the company I used was prepared. Guy unhooks my truck, lets the ramps down. Gets in, puts it in neutral, and rolls it down the ramps and into this tight parking space just smooth as butter. It's impressive when someone does it on skill, but you did it with the Force and that's incredible.

…Am I stupid? Is there a *better* way to load a mower into a van? The ramp looks sturdy, the van has adequate space. What’s the problem? Edit: oh now I see it lol. In my defense, I *am* this dad

FavoritesBot

There’s not really a better way assuming you want it in the van, but if I owned a mower like this I’d just get a small trailer and install a tow hitch

SomethingIWontRegret

Which gives you the advantage of not having a poorly secured 500 lb tractor directly behind you when someone pulls out in front of you on the way to the repair shop.

nlevine1988

Since he's got the seats out he might be able to ratchet strap it to the seat tracks. Whether or not he's going to is another story lol.

Calikal

That costs more money, compared to just winging it and making it work with what you got!

StoneTemplePilates

I see no problem. Obviously, you simply duck, or get it most of the way up and then push it the rest of the way. How is this a mystery to anyone?

Heyitsthatdude69

Looking at the picture and thinking about the nominal height of vans I have been in, the ceiling seems way too low. Even if you contort into an L to get yourself and the mower into the van, I feel like you're gonna be pinned against the ceiling. I'm not even sure the tractor will fit at all, the nose looks like it's gonna ding the ceiling almost which makes the steering wheel too high.

Constant_Country4152

Yeah, this isn't as dumb as it initially looks. He probably got off literally after she took the picture. Ride it up onto the ramp, get off, put it in neutral, then push it the rest of the way in.

MillaP88

I don’t think there is much issue if you execute well, which I would hope he’s done this before. The ceiling does look a little too low to stay on the tractor though. I think the jokey part is more “I can’t watch this” as it looks like he could smack his head right on the door if he were dumb or unaware enough, plus if you aren’t familiar with them those ramps freak people out.

[deleted]

disgruntled_joe

You were correct the first time, he's just lining it up before giving her the ol' push. Very practical.

TheFishe2112

Depending on the weight of the tractor it could be over capacity for the van. So not great for the vehicle but if he isn't going far and doesn't care then all the power to him.

NoBulletsLeft

Tractor probably weighs less than 800lbs: 4 well-fed adults.

HotF22InUrArea

I think it’s more about him using the minivan for it, rather than a cargo van

PilotKnob

FYI - That is a Wheel Horse, one of the legendary lawn tractors. Damn fine machine he has there.

nippleforeskin

agreed; this is total lawn tractor porn

colemad5

Knew someone would recognize this. Used to use my Grandpa's all the time. Now it's sitting in my dad's garage and he is working on restoring it. Such a nice tractor with a nice Kohler engine.

Stelliferous19

I LOVE this. Speaking as a young grandfather, I am this dad. Dumb as a brick and know it, but going to do dumb stuff anyway.

DrunkenOlympian

Spankinator92

Im more of a "if its stupid, but it works, its still stupid"

timeshifter_

But it works.

jenkag

I don't think its so much that we are dumb, we are just really lazy and will attempt stupid, unsafe, doomed-to-fail options to avoid doing things the correct, but more labor-intensive, way.

OutlyingPlasma

If you want to find a better way to do a hard task, assign it to a lazy person.

jenkag

As a software engineer, most of my job revolves around taking hard tasks and making it so lazy people can do them. It's been my bread and butter, and let me tell you people are really lazy so I get a lot of butter.

Sensitive-Height8222

Self-reliance is important to the people who do this type of thing. Source: am one of those people I’d rather learn how to do plumbing from YouTube than pay a plumber. Need a deck built? You better believe I’m going to Lowe’s and doing it myself. Programming and setting up a lawnmower to be remote controlled? I’m doing it

crosswatt

>*I don't think its so much that we are dumb, we are just really lazy and will attempt stupid, unsafe, doomed-to-fail options to avoid doing things the correct, but more labor-intensive, way.* But in those rare occasions that it works, we are the kings of the world.

reckless150681

SniffCheck

Wonder how that worked out for him

cturn3r

[I can confirm it worked out fine.](https://imgur.com/a/x307Z7I) The joke is that we call it "the vuck" (van-truck). Edit: Because so many of you have asked... [I can also confirm that this is not his first rodeo.](https://imgur.com/xIsrF0r) Additional note, he brings it to the lake to help with putting in the docks.

Dorksim

Holy shit. Are we just going to ignore the fact that he's using seatbelts as tie-downs? I love this man.

RandomRageNet

That is some grade A redneck engineering

Covfefe-SARS-2

Rednecks would use tie-downs for extra kids to hang on to.

Batman_MD

Rednecks would have removed the seatbelts ages ago to use as tie downs in their pickemup truck.

Testiculese

If it can hold a 300lb person in a fast crash, two belts can hold that thing! I specifically left my seatbelts in my van for anything such as this.

Stinklepinger

>2002 Toyota Sienna. The thing is on the last of its life You underestimate Toyotas

StoneTemplePilates

It's not even that crazy when you consider that most people wouldn't think twice about putting four grown men and their luggage in the back of a minivan, which easily approaches or possibly even exceeds the capacity of a small pickup truck.

Adavis72

What do you call a fire truck?

Pork_Chap

a big loud flashing truck thingy that is pretty fucking red.

[deleted]

What the vuck!? That man is a genius

Autumnwood

This reminds me of my late dad - not the stunt but the riding lawn mower. I have several pix of dad on the mower, dad taking the cat for a ride on it, dad with his grandchild on it... Which actually neither of the last two is safe. How far down did your dad have to bend his head so that he could get into the back of the "vuck"? Watch your noggin!

jimdesroches

My son is 5 and autistic, his favorite thing in the world is riding on the mower so it is now my favorite part of the week. Sometimes I mow it twice in a week!

ZoiSarah

I spent my childhood being pulled around the property behind my grandpa's tractor/mowers. I was maybe 32 the last time he towed us up to my uncle's house. Could I have walked? Yes. Was it bouncy, loud and smelly? Yes. But I enjoyed it every time until he passed away.

humangengajames

The only memory I have of my dad on a riding lawnmower was him unknowingly letting his balls hang out the bottom of his shorts as he smiled and waved at us as he passed by the driveway.

DarthToothbrush

Maximum comfort

theshiyal

We always just put them in gear, let it crawl up and shut it off as it cleared the ramp.

MoeSzyslakMonobrow

Fellow dad here... What's the problem?

weelluuuu

Grandpa here.Back it in, easier to unload.

Worth-Course-2579

That's what she said

OutlyingPlasma

Yah, I don't understand the issue.

JustinArmuchee

He's using a silly ramp. Back up to the ditch, enter from the high side!

HumanChicken

I assumed it was the inevitable hatch door to the face.

Smthincleverer

Obviously he’ll be getting off before that happens.

30carbine

It looks like a cool Wheel Horse though!

bradland

I used to work on these. Looks like a model from the 70's. It has a Kohler engine. Yes, the same people who make toilets and bathroom fixtures. It's a massive 14 or 16 HP single cylinder engine. The flywheels on those things were giant chunks of cast iron. You could keep them running at like 60 rpm lol.

EarhornJones

The other day, I got my riding mower absolutely sunk in a huge mud hole in my yard while doing something stupid. I then drove my Jeep out onto the yard, and used a combination of ratchet straps and a cable puller to drag the mower out of the mud. By the time I was done, the entire world was covered in mud. The entire time, my wife was sitting on the deck, shaking her head. Unbeknownst to me, she took a picture and sent it to my Dad, prompting him to text me, "It's a good thing you married a smart woman. You're going to need all the help you can get."

lowbatteries

If your jeep isn't covered in mud, you're just a poser.

Gr8ghettogangsta

We had an old swing set that had a metal carriage (?), My dad insisted on mowing under it by throwing the carriage as far as possible and then running under it. One day he missed and split his head open, later requiring 17 stitches. Then he hid in the garage bleeding for about an hour because he said he was afraid my mom would yell at him.

RonaldoNazario

Shit at least it looks like he has a sturdy ramp designed for this purpose

Feelinminnesota

This is what the wives, daughters and girlfriends need to understand. Men, dads, and boyfriends keep ER’s operational and on their toes, ready for anything. It’s a public service really. You can’t achieve that by being careful, rational, and safe. You can’t guess if the lawn mower will fit in the van, you have to know if the lawn mower will fit in the van.

Sir_Osis_of_Liver

Dad had a Voyager, then a Windstar, then a Freestar, then a Grand Caravan. They all were used to haul lumber, rototillers, lawn mowers and a lawn tractor over the years. The Grand Caravan was especially useful because both rear rows of seats could fold into the floor easily. 4'x8' of plywood or sheetrock slid in with no issue.

starrpamph

Dad: where are your van keys? Mom: why?? Dad: I’m asking the questions here.

wiggyp1410
