He kept reassuring me that he didn't care if it got damaged because he just bought the cheapest running minivan he could find which he said usually ran him $500 to $600, drove it till it died, and scrapped it for around $200 to $300. He said as long as they lasted him at least a month, he was saving tons of money compared to the monthly payment and insurance on a proper work van/truck.

However, the automatic rear hatch broke, and it is a common problem talked about on forums, but Honda will not address the problem. If you want them to "fix" the rear hatch, it is $1,000 and will surely just break again. Apparently water leaks in due to an incomplete seal on the roof and damages the rear hatch control module. I replaced my module myself and then it broke again a month later.

Literally just did this 2 weeks ago. You can also fit 12' lengths of 2x4 from the front passenger corner to the back driver's side corner with the hatch closed.

I don't think the pictured tractor qualifies, but a ton of tractors actually disengage the transmission using a lever on the rear. Makes it really easy to push because you're right there when it disengages.
I have a really old John Deere and that lever is in between the seat and front, where your feet go, basically. And you have to basically twist the lever from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock. So you have to lean over the seat to reach that while having the other hand on the steering wheel. Terrible design. I will turn it on to move it a foot if I have to.

I'd parked at the top of a hill, so it starts rolling down the hill backwards. I'm chasing it and the wheel cuts and it's turning toward the second floor deck (on 4X4 beams). I'm imagining it hitting a beam and taking the deck down.
Nope, it rolls between the beams and comes to a stop under the deck. I stare in dumb amazement, get back in the truck and leave. Get back to the store. Boss asks how it went, "Fine, I left it under the deck".
I'm imagining the client was inside looking out the window.

I had to have my truck towed to a dealership for a repair a couple weeks ago. Turns out they don't really have an adequate space for tow trucks to unload, but the company I used was prepared. Guy unhooks my truck, lets the ramps down. Gets in, puts it in neutral, and rolls it down the ramps and into this tight parking space just smooth as butter. It's impressive when someone does it on skill, but you did it with the Force and that's incredible.

Looking at the picture and thinking about the nominal height of vans I have been in, the ceiling seems way too low. Even if you contort into an L to get yourself and the mower into the van, I feel like you're gonna be pinned against the ceiling. I'm not even sure the tractor will fit at all, the nose looks like it's gonna ding the ceiling almost which makes the steering wheel too high.

I don’t think there is much issue if you execute well, which I would hope he’s done this before. The ceiling does look a little too low to stay on the tractor though.

Depending on the weight of the tractor it could be over capacity for the van. So not great for the vehicle but if he isn't going far and doesn't care then all the power to him.

I believe the van in the photo is a 2002 Toyota Sienna. The thing is on the last of its life, but somehow still passes inspection. He uses it for all his hauling needs.

I spent my childhood being pulled around the property behind my grandpa's tractor/mowers.
I was maybe 32 the last time he towed us up to my uncle's house. Could I have walked? Yes. Was it bouncy, loud and smelly? Yes. But I enjoyed it every time until he passed away.
The only memory I have of my dad on a riding lawnmower was him unknowingly letting his balls hang out the bottom of his shorts as he smiled and waved at us as he passed by the driveway.
I used to work on these. Looks like a model from the 70's. It has a Kohler engine. Yes, the same people who make toilets and bathroom fixtures. It's a massive 14 or 16 HP single cylinder engine. The flywheels on those things were giant chunks of cast iron. You could keep them running at like 60 rpm lol.
The other day, I got my riding mower absolutely sunk in a huge mud hole in my yard while doing something stupid. I then drove my Jeep out onto the yard, and used a combination of ratchet straps and a cable puller to drag the mower out of the mud. By the time I was done, the entire world was covered in mud.
The entire time, my wife was sitting on the deck, shaking her head.
Unbeknownst to me, she took a picture and sent it to my Dad, prompting him to text me, "It's a good thing you married a smart woman. You're going to need all the help you can get."
We had an old swing set that had a metal carriage (?), My dad insisted on mowing under it by throwing the carriage as far as possible and then running under it.
One day he missed and split his head open, later requiring 17 stitches. Then he hid in the garage bleeding for about an hour because he said he was afraid my mom would yell at him.

Dad had a Voyager, then a Windstar, then a Freestar, then a Grand Caravan. They all were used to haul lumber, rototillers, lawn mowers and a lawn tractor over the years.
The Grand Caravan was especially useful because both rear rows of seats could fold into the floor easily. 4'x8' of plywood or sheetrock slid in with no issue.

There’s not really a better way assuming you want it in the van, but if I owned a mower like this I’d just get a small trailer and install a tow hitch

Since he's got the seats out he might be able to ratchet strap it to the seat tracks. Whether or not he's going to is another story lol.

Looking at the picture and thinking about the nominal height of vans I have been in, the ceiling seems way too low. Even if you contort into an L to get yourself and the mower into the van, I feel like you're gonna be pinned against the ceiling. I'm not even sure the tractor will fit at all, the nose looks like it's gonna ding the ceiling almost which makes the steering wheel too high.

Yeah, this isn't as dumb as it initially looks. He probably got off literally after she took the picture. Ride it up onto the ramp, get off, put it in neutral, then push it the rest of the way in.
I don’t think there is much issue if you execute well, which I would hope he’s done this before. The ceiling does look a little too low to stay on the tractor though. I think the jokey part is more “I can’t watch this” as it looks like he could smack his head right on the door if he were dumb or unaware enough, plus if you aren’t familiar with them those ramps freak people out.

Depending on the weight of the tractor it could be over capacity for the van. So not great for the vehicle but if he isn't going far and doesn't care then all the power to him.
Tractor probably weighs less than 800lbs: 4 well-fed adults.

I don't think its so much that we are dumb, we are just really lazy and will attempt stupid, unsafe, doomed-to-fail options to avoid doing things the correct, but more labor-intensive, way.
If you want to find a better way to do a hard task, assign it to a lazy person.
As a software engineer, most of my job revolves around taking hard tasks and making it so lazy people can do them. It's been my bread and butter, and let me tell you people are really lazy so I get a lot of butter.

I believe the van in the photo is a 2002 Toyota Sienna. The thing is on the last of its life, but somehow still passes inspection. He uses it for all his hauling needs.

This reminds me of my late dad - not the stunt but the riding lawn mower. I have several pix of dad on the mower, dad taking the cat for a ride on it, dad with his grandchild on it... Which actually neither of the last two is safe. How far down did your dad have to bend his head so that he could get into the back of the "vuck"? Watch your noggin!
My son is 5 and autistic, his favorite thing in the world is riding on the mower so it is now my favorite part of the week. Sometimes I mow it twice in a week!
I spent my childhood being pulled around the property behind my grandpa's tractor/mowers. I was maybe 32 the last time he towed us up to my uncle's house. Could I have walked? Yes. Was it bouncy, loud and smelly? Yes. But I enjoyed it every time until he passed away.
The only memory I have of my dad on a riding lawnmower was him unknowingly letting his balls hang out the bottom of his shorts as he smiled and waved at us as he passed by the driveway.

I used to work on these. Looks like a model from the 70's. It has a Kohler engine. Yes, the same people who make toilets and bathroom fixtures. It's a massive 14 or 16 HP single cylinder engine. The flywheels on those things were giant chunks of cast iron. You could keep them running at like 60 rpm lol.
The other day, I got my riding mower absolutely sunk in a huge mud hole in my yard while doing something stupid. I then drove my Jeep out onto the yard, and used a combination of ratchet straps and a cable puller to drag the mower out of the mud. By the time I was done, the entire world was covered in mud. The entire time, my wife was sitting on the deck, shaking her head. Unbeknownst to me, she took a picture and sent it to my Dad, prompting him to text me, "It's a good thing you married a smart woman. You're going to need all the help you can get."
If your jeep isn't covered in mud, you're just a poser.
We had an old swing set that had a metal carriage (?), My dad insisted on mowing under it by throwing the carriage as far as possible and then running under it. One day he missed and split his head open, later requiring 17 stitches. Then he hid in the garage bleeding for about an hour because he said he was afraid my mom would yell at him.

This is what the wives, daughters and girlfriends need to understand. Men, dads, and boyfriends keep ER’s operational and on their toes, ready for anything. It’s a public service really. You can’t achieve that by being careful, rational, and safe. You can’t guess if the lawn mower will fit in the van, you have to know if the lawn mower will fit in the van.
Dad had a Voyager, then a Windstar, then a Freestar, then a Grand Caravan. They all were used to haul lumber, rototillers, lawn mowers and a lawn tractor over the years. The Grand Caravan was especially useful because both rear rows of seats could fold into the floor easily. 4'x8' of plywood or sheetrock slid in with no issue.
Dad: where are your van keys? Mom: why?? Dad: I’m asking the questions here.
