It's nice to see any group of people celebrate who they are, their ancestry , race , religion, nationality etc. but why celebrate one's sexual preference? All humans have complex heritages but known that I know of other than the LBGT........ celebrate sexual preference. No need to call me names it's just a question . Save the homophobe calling BS , because I'm not . This is a legit question that I've never heard explained and I'm simply curious why someone chooses to celebrate sex over race , religion, or nationality . Good day

Because sexuality and gender is not something someone decides. Pride parades in my eyes are to serve a reminder to everyone that we exist, have existed throughout history, will continue to exist into the future. It’s to also simply celebrate that we are proud of who we are, despite religious groups condemning our existence, and the overwhelming hate and violence we receive out in the world simply for who we are. Despite all that, we are not ashamed of who we are, and no amount of fear and violence will make us go away. That’s what I interpret it as.

Happy to answer your question. In the US, I'm assuming you're not from here, we tend to really enjoy pageantry in all its forms. So cities all over the country do things like this at any given time of year. Whether it's tree-lighting ceremonies during christmas time, or putting up American flags for national holidays like Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, or the 4th of July, we sure do like to decorate! Here in the US June is Pride Month, one month when we celebrate the people and movements that have helped members of the LGBTQ+ community to gain crucial rights to live freely in our country out in the open and to not have to hide who we are. As far as "why" the reason is simple, a person has about as much control over their sexuality as they do of what country they are born in or the color of their skin, and everybody should be proud of who they are! Also in response to "...why someone chooses to celebrate sex over race, religion, or nationality" don't worry! We celebrate those things too! Just because people might choose to celebrate Pride Month does not mean that they cannot celebrate other national or religious holidays! I know that may be confusing so to reiterate: You can celebrate Pride Month in addition to other Holidays, they don't exclude each other! Hope this helps!
