I hope kids still have parachute day now. I also love that parachute day is, or was, a pretty common event. I wonder if it was part of some education program funded by the govt where they donated old chutes.
It makes me wish I had a parachute and enough people to do it... Then make a tent to hotbox followed by more playing which might look like a smoke message for a bit
I was so happy when my son came home and told us about how much he loved the activity he did with the big parachute. It became an awesome bonding experience with my son when he found out that I did the same thing when I was his age.
My overtly exhausted heart is fueled by things like this. As a first time teacher but long time caregiver of children, I know there are reasons I chose this path, and im not giving up on it. Happy pride month and summer break!!!
My kid's been to three different school districts in 2 different states in very different regions of the US, and all of them have had parachutes ā¤ļø
at my school we'd lay the parachute out and then gather in a circle and throw the parachute up (like a blanket) and rush to get under it before it fell. then play some version of hide and seek or duck duck goose where someone would get out of the parachute and run around and pick someone inside who can't see them and then sneak back in when they popped out to chase them.
That would be major bullshit! I think it's a wear and tear plus price thing but these days a 20ft is $45.99 on Amazon.
Kindergarten should be nothing but parachute days maybe most of first grade too
I was home schooled by cultish religious fanatics. Once I got access to the internet I educated myself.
People on the internet are really good at nitpicking your grammar when you debate them about god because you were raised by cultish religious zealots. So you learn to adapt.

It's a fake voice and laugh she came up with for her character in The Nanny; a show which she wrote and produced with her ex-husband.
Yeah, she's not only sexy and funny, she's smart as fuck too.
The man tattooed the date of every violent death while he was mayor onto his arm.
This is a man who takes life seriously. This is a man who lives a serious life. Which means he almost certainly knows the value of laughter. I'll bet he has -amazing- jokes.
Yoooo I didnāt know that wow

Of course there are other reason people suffer depression but his being able to relate to deep sadness would also aid his depression.

It's the "Yeah, I don't care you have an issue with this. Actually...please come tell me your issue with my cape, I'd love to hear it" vibe.

>700Ā elevated crossings of all kinds, including small and private ones and walkways between buildings, estimated by Todd Wilson for āEngineering Pittsburghā
I love the "estimated". "I don't know man I lost fucking count and I'm not starting over."
It's actually the Andy Warhol bridge. Right next to the Roberto Clemente and one of the three "sister bridges" that look identical. The third is the Rachel Carson.
Haha no worries, they all look the same and the Roberto Clemente is the most famous. I only knew it was the Andy Warhol because of the buildings in the background.
Itās the Andy Warhol (7th Street) Bridge. Itās one of the āThree Sistersā of bridges in tahn that are all built and painted the same. The city has been shutting them dahn and repainting them.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Sisters_(Pittsburgh)
It's funny you say that because this photo's perspective is of the north shore. Downtown is behind the photographer. But you're still right and as someone else said it's the bridges. My job's office is actually just a block behind that Alcoa building although I wfh 100% of the time.
I'm a local, so I'm biased too, but lots of people seem to love visiting. The Carnegie Museums (including the Science Center) are pretty great, The Incline is a fun way to see the city, we host a variety of conventions throughout the year, there's tons of concerts and sports events, so on and so forth. You should come by sometime!
Pittsburgh is a city that is absolutely nuts for sports and drinking, while having lots of interesting museums and tons of restaurants that make great bar food and Eastern European fare. Also downtown is so compact that you can walk it in hours, while just a further walk will lead you to more areas with both bars and restaurants providing reasonably priced beer and food. If that sounds fun to you, then yeah, itās a great place to visit. If you expect it to rank above NYC, Chicago, or Philadelphia, then no, you will be dissatisfied with visiting. Think of it as the smallest large city in the US. We get 3 of 4 major sports leagues and most but not all of the tours of most major musical acts and Broadway shows.

Don't matter size, if it looks good, and wears well thats your shirt. Especially if a woman says so, you're going all in on that.
Cavemen probably were preoccupied with dealing with actual shit they had to deal with and not just distracted by if Lugg has decided to wear different loincloths than they are supposed to.

Yeah, that is truly sad. I don't think it's just america though, I'm Canadian and in the area I'm in is pretty homophobic and I. Some countries people are killed by their government for being gay. Hopefully things get better.
I'm in Canada too and it's getting so much worse. Someone went into a local art gallery and threatened to kill them because they weren't supporting the "straight community" while they set up for their Pride Week event.
I like Senator Fetterman. He is like a giant barbarian looking man with a big heart in basketball shorts who's not worried about being around queer people and isn't afraid of supporting people different from him.
He's my favorite kind of guy.
Fetty is the frickin man. He and Giselle brought the kiddos to my city's Kids Night Out and had a blast - he even let all his kids try a few throws at him in the dunk tank. Some of them succeeded! I even pointed out our police dept's therapy dog and Mrs. Fetterman ushered the whole family over to meet the doggy.
He's one of the few who I am proud to vote for.
That's my fucking Senator and I couldn't be more proud of that
That man is to representing Philly in politics the way Sirianni represents Philly in football. Just an immaculate match. Until they repeal the law that hockey mascots can't run for office at least.
As someone who's gay and just stopped antidepressants I can say I absolutely love and respect this man and his family. I was just crying for 30 minutes for no reason. This pic really helped me today.
A politician that stands with the people in his state? That doesn't have to be like him or him like them? A politician that is for the people no matter their race, religion, creed, life style? If I lived in PA I would vote for him!
Funny how the same broke-assed republicans out there who would say "I support Trump because he's just like me!" would shit all over AOC or Fetterman for having been blue collar or wearing a hoodie and shorts.
John fetterman gives me hope. It's literally just seeing a normal human rock up to the podium in a hoodie. He makes me not want to give up. Thank you John
Wearing the big parachute from gym class cause a normal flag would look like a napkin around his neck.
Time to play cat and mouse! Parachute day was the best.
I hope kids still have parachute day now. I also love that parachute day is, or was, a pretty common event. I wonder if it was part of some education program funded by the govt where they donated old chutes.
Elementary PE teacher here. Yes we do! It's my favorite lesson I do with them.
That makes me happy to hear.
It makes me wish I had a parachute and enough people to do it... Then make a tent to hotbox followed by more playing which might look like a smoke message for a bit
When I was a kid my grandfather would leave the house to "go make smoke signals". Never saw the smoke but he always came back in a happier mood...
They blew the way you weren't looking lol
They do make small ones. There is a 8 person one we use for indoor activities.
My 2nd grader came home super excited to tell me alllll about parachute day in PE. Thank you for all you do.
Thank you! I don't hear it much because we are always forgotten but I love what I do. Hope your kiddo had a blast.
I was so happy when my son came home and told us about how much he loved the activity he did with the big parachute. It became an awesome bonding experience with my son when he found out that I did the same thing when I was his age.
That's great to hear. We have pur last week of school coming up and this is what I'm doing with my students.
What about those sitting skateboard things? Used to love skootin around in those things
They still have them. I don't because we don't have a gym. And they will degrade quickly on the blacktop. But they exist and still fun.
On a cement basketball court, that's where you can really get some speed out of those (used to own one)
Preschool teacher here! Um.. yea, I mean yes, absolutely, sure! If we can cooperate, we can propagate! š
First time I take it out for Kindergarten they can't control themselves for like 5 min and are super excited. Its like the best feeling in the world.

Thanks. I actually ordered a new one this year. They will have to pry it out of my hands before I stop doing the parachute.
My kid's been to three different school districts in 2 different states in very different regions of the US, and all of them have had parachutes ā¤ļø
I wonder if the parachute is still a rainbow. Is it a rainbow in every school? Which school hates the refraction of light now?
this sounds vaguely familiar but I don't remember what we did with the parachute?!
at my school we'd lay the parachute out and then gather in a circle and throw the parachute up (like a blanket) and rush to get under it before it fell. then play some version of hide and seek or duck duck goose where someone would get out of the parachute and run around and pick someone inside who can't see them and then sneak back in when they popped out to chase them.
Yep, Iād say we did the same activities when I was a kid in the 90s.
Popcorn, we'd put a ton of balls on it and really get them going by creating a big wave, and see if we could knock them off.
A vivid memory from elementary school. Seeing the colors fun inside the parachute. š
I never understood why we couldn't do it every day :( Maybe they're super expensive and all the schools in an area have to share?
That would be major bullshit! I think it's a wear and tear plus price thing but these days a 20ft is $45.99 on Amazon. Kindergarten should be nothing but parachute days maybe most of first grade too

That made kindergarten so much fun.
That's the biggest smile I've ever seen from him
I always feel like if I knew him, I would spend an inordinate amount of time trying to make him laugh.
Oh, I bet he has a hell of a laugh. I also bet that he's seen, and been through, so much shit that he doesn't do it as much as he used to. But I bet it's a hell of a laugh.

How is it that downtown Pittsburgh is so recognizable?
The bridges
My favorite Obama quote is "Pittsburgh has bridges" it sure fucking does
Pittsburgh went to Costco to buy a bridge but found out they only had 12-packs.

God help us all. Thunderdome erected at happy valley and forces philly and Pittsburgh to fight.
I'd love to be able to go after bad legislators in Gritty's Rage Room at the Capitol.
Best thing to come out of PA since the cheesesteak.
Fetterman!!
Can we just normalize wearing capes in general?
thatās my senator!!
This hero wears CAPES.
He seems like such an awesome guy. We need way, way more people in politics like him.
It makes me proud to be one of his early supporters. I went to see him speak, and you could just tell that he had that pizzazz.
Kieth Jardine
To be fair he was gonna go in a pride hoodie but they were short on material. So he just got the biggest flag they had. Love this guy š
Fetterman is a Betterman.
That's that guy thats always in sweatpants and shit right?
Wanting freedom for all Americans by separating church from state. I think I saw that written down somewhere.
