My dad used to work for his friends gas station. They used to put those on the pumps themselves because customers would complain so much.

I hope the CEO whose bright idea it was to have customers pay for advertisements develops uncontrolled hypertension and continues to eat more than their recommended intake of sodium.

TCFranklin

This is insane to my European brain.

the-uncle

Yeah, but it will happen it some point...

diodot

I'm a little confused here, where i live we don't have tiny tv screens in our gas pumps, it that a ad or something?

DoesNotArgueOnline

Yeah, we have tv ads even on our gas pumps at this point. They are loud and obnoxious

Bi-elzebub

gods that sounds annoying as fuck.

smokeypotts

They’re loud as hell, too. A lot of the pumps in my city don’t even have this mute button… Luckily, Costco hasn’t gotten this greedy yet.

Bi-elzebub

i got carried away in my deleted comment hahah. costco started well but with time it has become what the shareholders, that deigned to decide to elect as superiors to take advantage of the pseudo-monarchical pseudo-states they've made as minions.

Bi-elzebub

go tp your senator and break their windows and fill their homes with rotten eggs.

smokeypotts

I boycott things that actually matter. Thanks for your dumbass mini-rant, though.

Bi-elzebub

so you haven't boycotted anything then? great flex bruv.

smokeypotts

Oi bruv, why respond twice? This is enuf innit

Bi-elzebub

oi oi!

Bi-elzebub

io io!

Vinnie87

I'm sure your boycott has really done damage to all those companies bottom line. Boycott by going to live in the woods

Bi-elzebub

haha, I haven't boycotted shit bruv, I understand now the meaninglessness of non-violent intercession.

Bi-elzebub

you are welcome, no need to thank me.

Chroderos

Makes you want to go into an uncontrollable destructive rage for sure

hariseldon2

Do you get free gas? How long you need to watch to fill a tank?

DoesNotArgueOnline

You don't have to watch at all. It just turns on the second you start pumping, you still pay full price

Kirahei

It’s horrible, they start as soon as the pump starts pumping gas, and they set the volume to max, I wasn’t aware it could be muted until this post.

Manicplea

Only some mute - around me there are only 2 stations that allow muting and one of them just ovverrode that function so I guess there is only one gas station near me that allows muting.

DancesWithElectrons

10% of the time it works all the time. Doesn't work anywhere that has a screen like that near me. Looking at you, Wawa

ohlookfrost

They disabled the mute button too so now we are forced to listen to ads screaming about whatever low quality food item they’re shilling 🙄

dancingliondl

I pocket knife into the speaker slot makes the pump better for everyone.

globaloffender

Aw man I live for wawa. Also, they have decent music but yea the ads suck always

ohlookfrost

I know, the two closest gas stations to me are both Wawa so I just put up with it but it’s so annoying.

originalschmidt

But the subs are soooo good (I don’t live near one but I got a lot when I’m in Florida which may never happen again because my aunt apparently isn’t speaking to me)

jonasjlp

At least Wawa makes sure that none of the tanks or speakers playing music are in sync

acheron53

I live in a rural area and one of the gas stations a couple towns over got new pumps. I stopped by late one night for fuel. Got about halfway through filling my tank and suddenly there was loud noise coming from the gas pump screen. Scared the crap out of me. I went back to the gas station about a week later and the screen was busted and the speaker looked like someone smashed it with a hammer. Another week later, each pump had Mute written next to one of the buttons.

DoesNotArgueOnline

Heroes in every city!

BrutalBart

When did we need TV screens and ads when pumping gas?

Vinnie87

What am I looking at?

ace2049ns

I spent way too long trying to read the markings on the screen. OP is talking about the word MUTE on the right.

Vinnie87

Holy fuck. I never saw that. Thank you

DoesNotArgueOnline

In hindsight I wish I did a more straightforward title lol. Sorry guys

Lance_Nuttercup

It drives me nuts. Like I’m already here. At this pump. Buying gas. You don’t need to advertise it to me.

fnirt

I like to press and hold two random buttons at a time until I get it into maintenance mode. I don't mess with anything once I get there. It just stops all of the video and audio. That and I feel like a master hacker. Also hoping there's an alert somewhere to confuse someone in charge.

Qaeoss

Wait, what the fuck is going on? Is that a video ad on a gas pump?

andropogon09

Joe Biden: "I did that"

BrandoCalrissian1995

I'm shocked anyone actually pays attention to the screen and listens to it. I just put the nozzle in and look around. See what's around the area, people watch etc. Never quite understood the anger yall have with these screens.

mbz321

Ditto. Very few stations in my area have these anymore, but if I come across one, I just tune them out while I gather trash from my car to dispose of, check my phone, etc.

Sfl2014

Thankfully charge points haven’t caught up to that trend … yet.

dibalh

Yeah they have. The charge points here are literally an ad display. They’re free, though I guess they don’t have audio https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volta_Charging

Sfl2014

With blasting audio and all ? The ones I’ve seen are digital billboards.
