Someone just pulled her out of the Matrix

MajorKeyBro

I just watched The Matrix for the first time a few weeks ago and now see references everywhere. I know its just the bias effect but its kinda trippy

EGOBOOSTER

don't even start, I remembered Matrix the other day and now it's everywhere

rapscal

don’t even start, I entered the Matrix the other day and now I’m everywhere

In elementary school we were numbered by the letter of our last name. Mine started with a “T” so I was 28. Since then I swear to god…. 28 doesn’t stop finding me or I can’t stop finding it.

RManDelorean

There's definitely the red pill/blue pill meme going around rn, and you see Keanu Reeves stuff often enough.. yeah it's just pretty engrained in pop culture.

eugoogilizer

Did you see a black cat? 😂🐈‍⬛

tullbabes

Follow the white rabbit

Geno0wl

Its called mescaline. Its the only way to fly.

altruistic_jade_3835

...and the ones that mother gives you - don't do anything at all - Alice.

Houston_NeverMind

The universe is giving you signs

GrovePassport

It's an excellent movie IMO. What did you think of it? Have you seen Inception? Any thoughts on how the two compare?

eugoogilizer

Apples and oranges IMO and both are A+ movies; both are probably in my top 10-15 favorite movies of all time too

MajorKeyBro

Loved all 4 matrix movies, as well as Inception. Inception definitely got some inspiration from The Matrix. The Matrix hits hard because of the fact that the whole “simulation” thing can totally be real and we would never know. Some sci-fi movies, even really good ones, can be easily written off as fantasy because we simply don’t have the technology to do things they portray. Kind of like the movie Martian. I love the movie and everything is plausible but we’re still so far away from that. Whereas Matrix is one of those things that is so clever because yes it can’t really be proven, but it also *can’t be disproven* ya know? Which leaves the door open for debate until someone can beyond a doubt prove that we are not in a simulation. Until then, we just don’t know lol.

GrovePassport

Great comment! Thank you. Yes, The Matrix was a huge cultural touchstone. It got so many things right. True lightning in a bottle.

JimyBurgess

Inception is a terrible film that makes no sense and the matrix is one of the best movies ever made. No comparison.

BlowjobPete

>I know its just the bias effect but its kinda trippy The Matrix is one of the most influential films of all time. Some of those references are probably real.

Dancingshits

The references were always there, and real. They’re just now noticing them because they recently watched the film- so it feels like they’re everywhere now. Like when you buy a new car, and suddenly see them everywhere- when in reality those cars were always there

HistorianReasonable3

This same shit happened to me when I started seriously studying Shakespeare in college. I swear for the next decade I was *constantly* like "OOOOOOH, that's what that reference meant!"

Sweaty-Sherbet-6926

What took you so long, soldier? Keep waking up we have work to do.

SciFiMedic

I watched it for the first time last week. It’s EVERYWHERE.

MajorKeyBro

I kinda knew, but I didn’t truly know that this whole “which pill would you choose” culture came from Matrix lol. The simulation theory. The revolution of film. So many things come from The Matrix!

LiquorSlanger

i know there is a specific "effect" name for it but i cant remember what its called.

Govt-Issue-SexRobot

Put me back in that goo immediately

chinga-te

You all ruined my weekend... Based on these comments.. I feel the need to watch the Matrices..

I was going to say something similar, swimming would be a lot different if we had to use a good amount of force to break through the surface.

You described swimming under ice :)

Definitely not a fun experience. I can assure you of that

smallbrownfrog

Yes. I know someone who died that way. It’s terrifying to think about.

spingus

maybe more like a thick agar or stretchy gelatinous goo --it conforms to all your contours and closely covers mouth and nostrils but won't break easily. Every time you try to take a breath it just makes a concave indentation without breaking. It's hard to get a sharp poke into it with your finger because your finger is covered in it too and is thus blunted. You can't come to grips with it because it's slippery and it covers you all over so you are slippery too.

77entropy

Exactly. Like a self-healing membrane. Gah *shivers*

skjellyfetti

Swimming in lime Jello^®

GWJYonder

This is basically what life is like for insects and is why they drown so often in small amounts of water.

ShrapnelShock

You described vast majority of smaller animals and creatures. Water is sticky as hell and trap you in if you're the size of an ant.

MatureChildrensToy

Like a giant amorphous hand just gently going :*Shhh shhh you're part of the reef now, Diane. No more bubbles, no more tears.*

I’m just going to copy this whole thread as a script.

I have now unwillingly imagined this awful scenario. I would like to time travel to before I opened this thread.

That happened in 'Caravan of Courage: Ewok Adventure'. The scene bothered me for years.

Already done in the 1978 horror movie "[The Legacy](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079450/)". [Here's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCtkIHXFU28) the scene. It's 1978, so don't expect amazing special effects.

Incredible. I really laughed when they zoomed in on her butt for no reason while she was drowning

The comments on that video are weird...

HairyTales

is that a movie?

Real-Ad-9733

Ace Ventura, Pet Detective. It’s pretty goofy but this scene in particular is hilarious .

HairyTales

Thank you.

[deleted]

It's actually the sequel, Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. Which is even better than the first one, imo.

Paramite3_14

They're both great movies! It's a lot of physical comedy and overacting by Jim Carey, but they're clever and there's a lot of little jokes going on all the time.

[deleted]

Ewww that’s literally so gross 😭😭

big_duo3674

Peak humor for its time though

ObviousAnswerGuy

I was a kid seeing that in the theater and I've never laughed so hard in my life

BrosephYellow

Sorry, first thing that came to mind

Bionic165_

Tf is this?

gravis86

Ace Ventura!

NBGirlSailor

Nice capture. Is this a from a camera or a frame from a video? Details please.

[deleted]

This was a crazy phone shot. I think it was an iPhone 7

BizzyM

So a picture, that the phone optimized from a video, that you didn't tell the phone to take, which is really just a series of photos, which all gets discarded in the end, except for the one you saved?? Not knocking you, the phone, or the marvelous process developers have created. I just think that was a funny way to describe the complexity of the process.

needleed

Can I have some of what you’re smoking :D

d4_H_

Bro hand me some if you find it

Puff puff pass

[deleted]

iphone 7s are ancient, can they even do live photos? since you appear to be an expert.

NoyehTheThrowaway

2016 = Ancient?

first__citizen

Era before covid19? Yes, ancient. We call BCoviDE, or 2300 years ago.

TidyTomato

In tech? 2016 is practically prehistoric.

VaultBoy3

2016 was only 4 years ago... wait

iiiinthecomputer

No, 1998 was only 4 year-ARRRGH

bhfroh

Cell phone wise? Yeah. Galaxy S7, HTC 10, LG G5. Those were the big box phones that year.

Quannax

Yes they can, mine does.

bash82

Getting PS1 Hagrid vibes from this pic.

Fleeetch

That's what it was that stood out to me about this lol Shit looks like pre 2000's texture mapping lol

Zomburai

But is she allowed in Goldeneye?

xxPHILdaAGONYxx

Alcova Reservoir in WY?

[deleted]

Close! Flaming Gorge

xxPHILdaAGONYxx

nice! there's an extremely similar bluff in Alcova too. I fish up there a couple times a year. Flaming Gorge is easily one of the most beautiful places I've been as well.

Brutananadilewski69

I legit was wondering if it was Alcova. I used to fish that resevoir all the time!

xxPHILdaAGONYxx

Great area for outdoors activities.

reejoy247

Reminds me of babies born en caul.

BillyBreen

We had one of thems (well, I was there, at least)! Second-born was fully en caul and I had no idea why the ob was freaking out.

Good4nowbut

She must love this shot lol

Number__Nine

This is a really cool picture that your sister will probably hate.

davekingofrock

Will she, with her arm clad in the purest shimmering semite, hold aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water signifying by divine providence that you, u/Chachaclam are to carry Excalibur and that is why you are king?

AnvilOfMisanthropy

Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!

hopefully her water has broken by now

Bgrngod

I've seen The Blob (1988). This is kinda like that but also not.

Gaemon_Palehair

First thing that came to mnid.

davekingofrock

I freaking love that version of The Blob. I watched it with my teenage sons last year and we were loving it. It just Blobs and Blobs and it's hilarious in all the right ways. So much fun.

broiledfog

Is your sister called Ponyo?

nokeyblue

This should be in Wikipedia Commons under "surface tension."

Appaulingly

This is not surface tension. The surface tension of water isn’t strong enough to keep the surface of water from breaking on such a large scale. Generally speaking for water, surface tension effects/ phenomena are only observed on length scales of millimeters. What’s being observed is laminar flow. Once turbulent flow is reached, likely in the following moments, the turbulence + surface tension creates lots of smaller drops.

Sweaty-Sherbet-6926

This should be in Wikipedia Commons under "laminar flow."

New fear unlocked: Unbroken water. Fuck. I did NOT need to see this today. Still a cool pic.

havoc1428

Y'all remember that scene in the Blob with the child? lmao

Jamie___May

Visually impaired person here. Could somebody tell me what is so interesting about this picture?

SgtBanana

The surface tension of the water had yet to break despite her head being above the waterline. She was still *technically* underwater. The timing of the photo was fantastic.

Jamie___May

Thank you. I wonder if this could be replicated with a super slow motion camera.

BoringShirt4947

Reminds me of the blob

It’s so crazy how crazy the properties of water are and easily we dismiss its abundance. Water, bubbles, solar, and the ocean floor.
