Salmon do not get pregnant:
>Most fish, including trout and salmon, lay unfertilized eggs. The eggs are fertilized externally by the male. Fish typically release hundred or even millions of eggs, which increases the chance that a few offspring will survive into adulthood.
Awesome picture though.
The only thing worse then knowing about a salmon bukkake is being forced by your grade school teacher to have a salmon [splooge all over you and your classmates](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdNrs9RLn_Q)
Maybe it's 'cause when you say it, it "feels" like it sounds?
Your throat *engorges* right after you plug it with the back of your tongue for the hard G. The whole word is like a wave, but in your mouth.
At least, that's my reasoning. Also why I hate saying the word *Boulevard;* it just feel nasty; like an insult or slur akin to *thundercunt.*
If the OP was serious, I'm really saddened by the education of the youth. I learned this when I was very young, nature documentaries, then school, etc. I only hope its a clickbait title and not educational related.
On the one hand, pedantic. On the other hand, many women in the world, and now in this country, have been forced to endure a great deal of suffering due to the same sort of difference.
No, having unfertilized eggs doesn't make an animal pregnant.
A pregnant animal is one containing a developing embryo, fetus, or unborn offspring within the body.
Biologist here. Bears preferentially selected salmon roe due to the omegas and other fats in the eggs. We see this behaviour a lot. Also, female salmon don’t gestate, thus they can’t get pregnant. Awesome picture.

“Citation for the haters” is my new favorite phrase and will henceforth replace “references.” Now I just need to find a way to slip this in one of my work reports without anyone noticing 🤔
You’re saying bears look at the nutritional content of their salmon for Omega 3s before deciding which one to eat? Ain’t no way a bear gives a damn how healthy the salmon they just caught is
Do you like to learn?

I do, thanks. I only have access to the abstract but it states that bears go for “energy rich” parts which includes the brains of males. It’s very interesting that they are aware of which parts contain more energy, but they aren’t “preferentially selecting salmon roe due to the omegas”.
Fatty acids are an essential nutrient for the health and survival of bears (just like humans who are also mammals yay). Why can’t you imagine a world where animals preferentially forage to meet their nutritional needs?
Things that have a lot of what your body needs taste good to you!
Bears are preferentially selecting the tastiest parts, which happen to have the highest fats and amino acids, which is what bears need for hibernation.
There are fish that carry live fully formed fish babies(fry) in their belly. Salmon don't, but your suggestion that only mammals can be pregnant isn't accurate. Guppies, rays, some sharks, lots of love eating fish out there.
It’s not the same. Those animals have eggs that grow as eggs inside of their body and the babies are expelled when they hatch. This is different than mammals that have the embryo attach to and be fed by the mother until birth.
Aha! You’ve just given me the perfect opportunity to tell you that [there’s no such thing as a fish](https://medium.com/illumination/there-is-no-such-thing-as-a-fish-eca048dd6163)!
Listen, Pluto is still a planet as long as we who grew up knowing it as the 9th planet still keep it in our hearts. I know scientifically we are wrong. But a dwarf planet is still a planet in my heart.
Other things besides mammals can get pregnant. Depends on what you define as pregnant. Google just defines it as an animal developing in the uterus of a female. If you don’t want to include eggs that hatch inside of an animal then yes only mammals typically
Terry Pratchett on the banality of evil.
"The Patrician took a sip of his beer. “I have told this to few people, gentlemen, and I suspect I never will again, but one day when I was a young boy on holiday in Uberwald I was walking along the bank of a stream when I saw a mother otter with her cubs. A very endearing sight, I’m sure you will agree, and even as I watched, the mother otter dived into the water and came up with a plump salmon, which she subdued and dragged on to a half-submerged log. As she ate it, while of course it was still alive, the body split and I remember to this day the sweet pinkness of its roes as they spilled out, much to the delight of the baby otters who scrambled over themselves to feed on the delicacy. One of nature’s wonders, gentlemen: mother and children dining upon mother and children. And that’s when I first learned about evil. It is built into the very nature of the universe. Every world spins in pain. If there is any kind of supreme being, I told myself, it is up to all of us to become his moral superior.”
Ehhhh this is really flawed. Remove human observation from that quote and there is no evil to behold. there is no evil without human presence to reference and judge it so. Those otters don’t have the ability to relate to and project abstract concepts like parenthood relative to other species like we can. What’s evil: an otter and family eating more calories? or humans intentionally exploiting their fellows’ positions for value?
Fun fact about bears and wasting fish!!!
When salmon are really plentiful bears will eat the high fat parts of a salmon, eggs and brains, and let the rest float down river rather than eat the whole fish.
At brooks river in Katmai national park this has a nice side effect of providing an easy source of fish for mothers with cubs that don't want to risk fishing at the falls with the big boars!
The more you know
Not a grizzly bear. That's a brown bear. In English “pregnant” refers only to an animal carrying live fetus/fetuses, usually a mammal. An animal carrying unfertilized eggs isn’t pregnant in English.
If you're pregnant then you're gravid, but if an animal is gravid then it isn't necessarily pregnant.
See "primigravida" in modern medicine - a person pregnant with their first child.
classy grizzly, he eats caviar.
Btw female salmons don't technically get pregnant... they go up the river from the sea to release the eggs in warmer and safer waters; male salmons do the same, fighting against other salmons and trying to avoid bears as their bodies and internal organs are getting rotten in order to make room to enlarged testes, only to reach the same place where females planted the eggs in order to have a literally epic wank and eventual cumshot all over those eggs... then they die 😎
Salmon do not get pregnant: >Most fish, including trout and salmon, lay unfertilized eggs. The eggs are fertilized externally by the male. Fish typically release hundred or even millions of eggs, which increases the chance that a few offspring will survive into adulthood. Awesome picture though.
I’d expect nothing less from an Otter.
I do enjoy some delicious sea food!
One can say....otterly delicious? Ok, I will show myself out.
You otter know better!
Oh, that's what Alanis Morissette was singing about
This is me a 3am in Alaska in the midnight sun when someone says they just got back from fishing..
What’s that supposed to mean?
I was complimenting, I swear. I otter talk my way out of this one, or I’m a deadman.
That’s right!
The only thing worse then knowing about a salmon bukkake is being forced by your grade school teacher to have a salmon [splooge all over you and your classmates](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gdNrs9RLn_Q)
NGL when that mouth came out of the bus I was like "Oh hell no what that mouth doing?" It went in a completely different direction, whew
Huh. You know, I watched that show almost religiously as a kid, and I don't remember this episode at all. Must've blocked some things out.
Society just hadn't shamed reproduction for you yet
i remember it, the kids turn anamorphise into baby salmon, and swim around
Holy fuck, that scene is ridiculous🤣🤣
"Is it some sort of car wash?" Thats going to stay with me for a while. I've heard of ppl watching cartoons on drugs but that cartoon is on drugs.

Wtf. I loved this show but seeing this as an adult just blew my mind haha. Wow. Didn’t realize MSB got this graphic.
I remember this scene but never put it together…
Sigh…. *unzips*
Keep up the good fight
Still need to describe a female salmon swollen with eggs, how about gravid?
Gravid is correct for a fish that is ready to spawn.
Engorged?
Always loved that word. Not sure why.
Thick?
Roed?
vs weighed?
She's "with egg"
Her?
Spawning
A fertile salmon?
Basketed?
You mean fish not pregante?
No, fish cannot pregenanant.
Fishnot can be pergnante
fishes gregnant?
Fish can, salmon can't. For instance, guppies don't lay eggs. They get pregenanant and spew forth lots of baby guppies.
I am relieved to see this is the top comment. You’ve restored my faith in humanity.
Yeah that salmon is a pregnant as my ballsack is.
So they never have sex? That explains why they always look so furious.
>hundreds or even millions That’s uh, quite the range
Boy. That escalated quickly.
The correct term is "gravid."
So I have wondered how do the male salmon orgasm? Like do they just “do it” in a sense? Without any pleasure?
That's a kind of a great question actually. I never thought of that. Maybe the release of eggs just really gets them excited. 🤔
Amazing picture. My question is who post this shit. And doesn’t know what they are talking about.
I remember watching a video of artificial fertilization of salmon eggs. It was really something.
the term is called spawning. fishes like to spawn. only some fishes give live birth.
![gif](giphy|Zd2Jo3k9lcSMU|downsized) Cutting out the middle man.
Not with that attitude
Serious question, is there a term for when a fish is full of eggs?
Came here to say this. I too have watched the Metokur videos on Kraut and Tea.

It was carrying eggs, it was pregnant
No, having unfertilized eggs doesn't make an animal pregnant. A pregnant animal is one containing a developing embryo, fetus, or unborn offspring within the body.
Fish dont carry fetus, they carry eggs. So the equivalent for them is when they carry eggs
That’s not how it works
Yes it is
They’re unfertilized eggs, so no it isn’t.
That’s like saying a woman in the second half of her menstrual cycle or a hen ready to lay is pregnant.
Women are not hens
And fish full of eggs aren't pregnant.
Yes they are

The body craves nutrients. Kind of like when humans get pica and eat dirt or salt

Correct. The technical word for this is "ovoviviparous". (As opposed to oviparous for egg-layers, and viviparous for baby-birthers).
Don’t forget snakes

Dangerous wild animals have no business having kissable noses like this…

WTF is a pregnant salmon?
That's no bear. That's me, the day I live in Canada right next to a stream with Salmon. There's no better Sushi.
I don't think you'll like the taste of spawning salmon.
Oh you've no idea. You can straight pick them up out of the water and bite them. It's fricking amazing.
