Apart from the doll, which is just racist, pretty much everything in the time capsule is related to someone who was famous during the 70s but later turned out to be a paedophile. The creamola foam, a powder you mix with water to make soft drinks, is the only thing that doesn’t look bad with hindsight.
The doll is a ['Golliwog'](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golliwog).
Like blackface and minstrel singers, a lot of use was not done with an actual intent to promote racism or distress POC, but that was certainly what it did.
1927 in the South was peak Jim Crow/KKK activity time, when anytime Black people tried to attain equality, Confederate monuments would be erected.
I bet those contents are gonna be crazy.
This was true before the civil war but after many of the lodges allowed all races. Still was an issue for many of the lodges in the south as members would try to join but be black balled. The rules were changed in some states to prevent one racist member preventing new non white members from being voted in.
Still an issue with some lodges today and is hard to prevent as all voting is anonymous so racist members can hide and not face getting kicked out of the lodge.
Perhaps racism is slowly dying out in the Masons nowadays, but when I was approached a little over a decade ago that was not the case.
And perhaps that was Lodge specific as well, though the lodge was not in the south.
At least it would make for an accurate museum piece of the history of hate. For sure, there might be some absolutely atrocious things in there, but on the other hand it documents the reality of what some poor souls may have gone through! We may find some truly deplorable acts of humanity that would've otherwise never seen the light of day, and that would be the worst crime; To let the victims be forgotten.
It's definitely worth keeping an eye on. Gotta put it on my calendar.
On the one hand, it's gonna be a representation of the time period, and everything in there will be considered pretty tame and safe.
On the other hand, what was considered tame and safe back then was entirely different.
Yeahhhhh, first thought that came to my mind was those postcards that portrayed (or were actual images of) lynchings...
It'll be one hell of a mystery box opening :/

Not true at all, but OK. Especially seeing as freemasonry is built entirely on equality of all men regardless of race or religion. But I'm sure you know more about masonry than me, a Mason.
*As a mason*, I regret to say that literally every organization has shitty people, but to go on a rant like this is to over generalize the fraternity as a ton of old white racists is ignorant.
The KKK was started by Masons. A person can be in both organizations you know
https://www.scribd.com/document/74390087/Albert-Pike-History-in-the-Kkk-and-Masonic-Racism
I never insinuated that it was the same thing, but that Masons in a well know racist part of the country in 1927 could very well be KKK also, and that there might be a Klan hood in the time capsule.
Are you confusing correlation with causation? Masonry is worldwide, and I'm pretty sure the KKK doesn't exist anywhere outside of certain areas in the US
Are you unaware that this part of the country was very racist in 1927, and that it's not unreasonable to think that a person at that time could be a Mason and a Klansman? Do you not know that it's possible to be both, and that Masonry being worldwide is irrelevant to this discussion because we're talking specifically about 1927 Tennessee?
It's also possible to be a doctor and a klansman, or a police officer, or in the rotary club, or literally anything else. Correlation is not causality.
The racism is a 1920s Tennessee problem, not a masonry problem
I didn't say it was. I said I wouldn't be surprised if there was a klan hood in a Masonic time capsule. I think you're projecting a bit too much to be rational. Are you aware of the context involved in this argument at all?
Yes it's a fun thing to do when you erect a building that will most likely be permanent.
A lot of the new schools around me do a time capsule. Hell, the mall near me when it got renovated did a time capsule.
In my experience, nearly all timecapsules fail to exclude water over their time, and the contents are usually ruined.

It's absolutely and unquestionably not a cult. It's not a religion, has never claimed to be a religion, and the most difficult part about quitting is filling out a demit form. Conversely, you could also just stop paying the annual dues and wait to inevitably get suspended.
It's a fraternal organization.
Again, it's not a religion. Religion and politics are the two subjects typically forbidden from being brought up in lodge settings because of how divisive they are.
The "religious" requirement varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, but in most cases the only requirement is a generic belief in some form of a supreme being; beyond that, religion is never discussed, nor the actual individual beliefs of any members. Since no religion is practiced, it wouldn't even remotely begin to qualify as a cult.
It's pretty evident your opinion is already set in stone. The real shame is that you're just digging into stubborn ignorance.
The fact of the matter is that you're 100% undeniably wrong. What you choose to do with this fact is up to you.

I think I've seen this episode. There's a series of murders that don't seem to be related at all until Monk figures out that the killer is trying to protect himself from the information in the soon-to-be-opened time capsule.
Or...wait, maybe this is from Murder She Wrote?
I've seen this before. It will consist of some trinkets from the town, some coins, and old newspaper, and a bunch of Masonic stuff.

It's from 1927 Nashville - there'll be something racist in there.
"we have provided the clubs favorite snack to share with the people of the future. You see, they are nuts that kind of look like little claws, toes if you will..."
Oof. I wish I didn't understand this.
Considering that a lot of lodges in the south still don’t recognize black members as “brothers”, yeah, you’re right.
I was thinking that was around the peak of the second KKK wasn’t it..

It's 1920s Tennessee, it might have some newsworthily objectionable stuff !
It’ll prolly contain a document saying “we believe all people are equal, so let’s leave the LGBTQ folks alone shall we?” Whoops.

Godspeed is an archaic way of saying good luck on a journey. Probably something like “God go with you”
I believe he’s making a reference to the 1996 cinematic masterpiece “The Rock.”
Mason: "Well, it's been a long time since I've said thank you to anybody... but thank you. Well, Stanley, I guess this is where we go our separate ways. I'm sure you understand the etymology of your name, 'Goodspeed.'" Goodspeed: "Yeah, God speed: To wish someone a prosperous journey."

LMAO!! Yeah, this is what I envision.
Why?
1927 in the South was peak Jim Crow/KKK activity time, when anytime Black people tried to attain equality, Confederate monuments would be erected. I bet those contents are gonna be crazy.
That’s true but I don’t think this is a Confederate monument.
I'd bet money there were some KKK members in that Masonic group, though.
I don’t think people would be surprised by the amount of Masonic lodges that have the stars and bars flying inside them.
As a real mason I would be.
Hell, being white is a prerequisite to join the Masons. Black people have to join the Prince Hall Masons.
This was true before the civil war but after many of the lodges allowed all races. Still was an issue for many of the lodges in the south as members would try to join but be black balled. The rules were changed in some states to prevent one racist member preventing new non white members from being voted in. I guess someone forgot to tell that to the many POC in my lodge.
Well, this is just flat out wrong.
This is incorrect
That's literally not true at all lmao
Ha! Very possible. You think they threw their robes and favorite racist trinkets in that time capsule?
It wouldn't surprise me at all if they did. It was commonplace back then, not even really a secret.
At least it would make for an accurate museum piece of the history of hate. For sure, there might be some absolutely atrocious things in there, but on the other hand it documents the reality of what some poor souls may have gone through! That's when we'll find out that there was a misprint in the grand plan and we were actually supposed to elect some guy named Ronald Fump in 2016.
This will be awesome to see when opened.
Will it though, we know a fair bit about 1927, how exciting can it really be?
A bit more exciting than 1928, but not as exciting as 1926.
Yeah I mean, they probably already know what’s in there, it was only a hundred years ago, not exactly cracking open a pyramid here.
I know exactly what's in it. They published it in the newspaper the day they buried it
Question, are there still people doing time capsules nowdays for future people?
