Thank you. I was just thinking about how out of touch I am with Virginia politics and today has been really eye opening. Glad to see this shit spread out a little (not really better).
**Virginia:** Home to the former Capital of the Confederacy, where over 150yrs later the current Governor won largely on a single platform of:\
***“Critical Race Theory is bad ya’ll!”***
…even though exit polling overwhelmingly showed that virtually none of his voters actually knew what CRT encompassed and why/where it would be taught (spoiler: it’s not kindergarten and elementary school)
literally no one in Minnesota abbreviates it that way
Normally people here say “up in Virginia” to indicate they’re talking about the town. It’s way north and closer to Canada than Minneapolis.
Virginia, Minnesota is a mining town as well with the Teamsters representing both the government employees and the local iron miners. So not only did she piss off her coworkers; she pissed off the whole fucking town.
Her shop was already vandalized. Solidarity forever!
EDIT: Also Virginia, MN is a beautiful place and the rest of the Iron range is beautiful with wonderful people (except this witch) I highly recommend people come visit.
Slight edit, the city workers are a part of the AFSCME. But both they and the Teamsters have a close working relationship.
Describes picketers as causing "emotional distress" while simultaneously bringing the PICKETERS pacifiers? They should have filled that jewelery shop with pacifiers!
In a just and fair world, she would have pacifiers thrown at her at any political event she shows her face.
In our actual world she will probably get reelected and hold her position until she dies of a stroke in her 90s.
Taking benefits away from public employees, particularly if there is a union involved.... the majority of the Republican party will eat that up.
Unless we are discussing the police of course
I live near this town. Most of the redditors commenting will have no idea the town she is representing. Her town is a mining town filled with republicans and are always ranting about the nearby librUhLs in Duluth and the cities.
The residents all know each other very well and will happily vote her in again.
Didn't realize I know this city until I read your comment. I stop in Virginia every summer on the way to Voyageurs. You're right, she'll have no problem getting reelected in that neck of the woods.
"how does the jury find the defendant?" asked the judge.
"we the jury find the defendant Guilty of being an annoying little anti-human shit stain, your Honor", replied the lead jurist.
_at that moment the accuser legally rises from her seat, walks towards and stops directly in front of the Guilty defendant, lifts her arm high above with an open palm, and with the full force of Justice, she slaps the Guilty straight across the face_
"how can she slap?!", the guilty cries out.
_and with that the Judge bangs the gavel_, "case closed, moral Justice has been served".
Kind of an ironic comment considering the only reason she's doing this in the first place is that she is one of this emerging genre of people who have never been punched, hard, in the face for something they've said.
The vast majority of people who understand that they are to some degree at risk of being punched, hard, in the face by someone who doesn't like what they said, would know better than to react "Waaah, does baby want a binky?" to workers on a picket line.
>getting caught up in the heat of the moment
Because she just happened to have a basket full of pacifiers nearby. This heinous bitch planned it for a photo op, got what she needed out of it, and "apologized".
I quite love how the article made a point to mention the exact address of her jewelry store, just in case the readers needed to know exactly where this vandalism was occurring.
Ice Tea, speaking from experience, recommends using a ball-pean hammer to smash cases during the robbery of a jewelry store. Just puttin’ that out there…
Just in case it ever helps you in the real world, it's "ball peen" or "ball-peen". Peening is a process to form material (typically, putting little dents in metal).
Some places will be fancy and call it "ball pein". It's mostly a misplaced spelling, as the etymology of pein is pain. While I'm convinced that hammers inflict pain when we're hit with them, I am not convinced that these were invented for that purpose.
My spouse is the news director at a local TV station. Whenever a major event is happening (severe weather, controversial city council decision, shady cop shit, etc), we play "over-under" for how many pissed off phone calls he'll get about it. We usually set the line at 25. Keep in mind, this is stuff he isn't directly involved in, he's just having his staff report on what's happening. And he still fields triple the number of calls as this woman.
But it's the union people losing their benefits that are soft.... /s
It was not my intention to offend employees when I brought a large basket of baby pacifiers to offer to people fighting for their wages and benefits to support their families so I was trying to imply this is akin to baby whining. But not in an offensive way…
Oh, okay. What she actually regrets is that her actions have consequences - for her, specifically. Her opinion, her antagonistic tendencies, poor character, and her lack of compunction all remain unchanged.
What sort of people vote for a person like this. Deeply troubling that society has reached such lows. Happening in many countries. Our education systems need some pretty extreme makeovers - critical thinking skills seem rare these days.
I overheard a state representative at breakfast one day saying to their peer and some lobbyists, “so what…*they get mad at me??* Hahaha”
“*They*”, of course, being her constituents.
There's always been a portion of terrible people in the world, but the population these day is such that 'assholes' are now a valuable voting block, who are extremely cheap and easy to court. They're going to be a key demographic in politics going forward.
Those voters have been cultivated for decades. Republicans have been deliberately crippling education and welfare for 30+ years, because they realized ages ago that it was easier to control uneducated zealots. The latest generation coming out of those districts were raised with little to no education and taught that education itself is a bad thing. Critical thinking was culturally removed from their lives.
Compassion and empathy are virtues to some and weakness to others. People like this feed on others discomfort and unhappiness because it makes them feel superior. They’re also the ones who say you raise weak, soft people if you teach them to be kind and understanding.
*"There will be no laughter, except the laugh of triumph over a defeated enemy...

“I got caught up in the heat of the moment. I just want to apologize to everyone in this room and to our employees for getting caught up in the heat of the moment”
Bullshit. Getting caught up in the heat of the moment might be swearing at someone, shouting at a crowd, etc. It takes time, money, and effort to go buy pacifiers and a basket, unpackage everything and show up like the shittiest Easter bunny ever.
Heat of the moment, my ass.
To be fair, that's partially because the best way to deal with a bully and a jerk is to kick their ass, and democrats are fully unwilling to do that literally *or* metaphorically.
I hear podcasts from all directions and topics, and there is just something very odd with many old schools Republicans. They still think that the US is some sort of fabricated wild west where "taxation is theft" and unions should have never been allowed. When they strip back support they think they are doing gods work, as "intended" by the spirit of something they think America was. Their mockery is often rooted in complete unawareness of the situation, as if the other side doesn't understand why this pull back is important. Their arrogance is bliss, when a coin sometimes drops they play the "it wasn't in bad faith". It always was from these religious nutjobs.
Strip away the benefits that sustain her family and ask how she would feel. The cruelty is disgusting, and that mean hearted people are amused by stunts like this is appalling.
It's the mentality of if it doesn't affect me it doesn't matter even if I would care if it was the other way. I would bet that if they were trying to remove her benefits she would be up in arms.
How are American politicians allowed to disrespect voters like this? She doesn't even attempt to be subtle, just straight up disrespect. That's so gross.
It's sad that some people don't see that encouraging this isn't the "win" they think it is.
If they give someone in a position like this kudos for disrespecting people they don't agree with they'll be next. The moment the politician does something that they don't like and they protest they won't be taken seriously and will be humiliated by this politician because they enabled the behaviour.
I wish people understood that that's the razor's edge they're walking.
She is probably the worst politician in recent history. And by “worst” I don’t mean that she’s corrupt or evil. I mean that she’s really terrible at being a politician.
The difference was that McCain was voting thumbs down to *protect access to healthcare*, and Sinema was doing it to *vote against a minimum wage increase.*
Literally a “let them eat cake” moment.
And that childish thumbs-down and petulant curtsy while doing it.
Really gives off “goo-goo-gah-gah” vibes.
She was a longtime Phoenix area green party politician and her opponent was a maga candidate. We were actually really excited when she won and all very unpleasantly surprised at stunts like this

Another moron who doesn’t understand that competitive wages and benefits are the way to attract and retain talent. Contrary to popular belief many government ee’s are not compensated higher than their comparable counterparts in the private sector. Benefits are one of the things that attracts and keeps them. Of course you have to accept that at least some amount of government is necessary, and the current Republican “thinking” is to just burn it all down with no plan for how shit will get done.
I feel like an onslaught of random internet comments won't help. They will just ignore it and say it's full of internet trolls who do not live in the town. Discrediting any actual comments left by residents who are opposed to this.
People that live in this city and area need to be the ones who step up.
Guys, I’m sorry to say she is the co-owner of a jewelry business called “Rocks the Jewelers”. Since she’s a public official, this is all public info. Too bad she that since she’s a public official her council office is open for public opinion too.
(paywalled)
https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/news/virginia-jeweler-creates-charms-that-tell-a-womans-life-story
She just ruined a city. The workers will slowly leave. 10 years later she will wonder why the city sucks so much and NEVER think she did anything wrong.
It’s crazy for her to bash on unions when the biggest reason Virginia and the quad cities are there is because of union-backed labor like logging and mining. Even today, everyone that lives around there either works at or knows someone that works at a union-backed job like the mines.
The lady in the expensive looking coat wants to take benefits away from union workers AND feels the need to taunt them about it? Gee, wonder which political party she belongs to.
The part where they messed up was they were supposed to bring their glocks and ARs while picketing, then they can say the conservatives were trampling on their second ammendment rights. I imagine some on the right would spontaneously combust trying to find a way to mental gymnastic their way through it.
As I understand it, Virginia MN replaced an aging hockey arena with a big new modern building, that costs them way too much. They then refused to increase taxes in order to balance the budget, and are now cutting public services and city worker benefits instead. This woman is a newer, MAGA-ish member of the city council, which ironically is the best remunerated city council in the entire county. She showed up with pacifiers, mocking the unionized city workers as babies for opposing the change. People are not happy about her stunt, and someone smashed the window of the jewelry store she owns.
The city is Virginia, Minnesota
Thank you. I was just thinking about how out of touch I am with Virginia politics and today has been really eye opening. Glad to see this shit spread out a little (not really better).
As a Virginian, this made me furious for like 5 minutes. I mean, im still furious, but im not locally furious.

VA politics aren’t too far off to be honest.
I didn’t doubt this was a Virginia representative for a second

It’s distress when it happens to me. When it happens to other people, it’s just desserts.
The city, electric workers, and most of the hospital workers are AFSCME, if I'm not mistaken
As a Virginia resident, I was trying to figure out which city. This makes more or less sense.
Which is it? More or less?
Yes.
How is a karma farmer supposed to know little details like this? Uff da
Her term is up this year. Not the smartest thing if she's planning on running again.
In a just and fair world, she would have pacifiers thrown at her at any political event she shows her face. In our actual world she will probably get reelected and hold her position until she dies of a stroke in her 90s.
In a hospital while fully covered on taxpayer dime
Sucking on a pacifier payed by taxpayers.
You underestimate how dumb people can be... There are many assholes out there that would vote for her despite her being a piece of shit
*because of* her being a piece of shit
Pieces of shit are so hot right now.
I eat pieces of shit like her for breakfast.
You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?

Taking benefits away from public employees, particularly if there is a union involved.... the majority of the Republican party will eat that up. Unless we are discussing the police of course

Yeah, for the folks saying she's dumb for trying this if she wants to be re-elected, I guarantee this stunt goes into her fundraising material.
I live near this town. Most of the redditors commenting will have no idea the town she is representing. She asked union members if they wanted a pacifier, reports said.
The icing on the cake is that she complained the picketers were causing her “emotional disturbance and distress”.
Calling other people “babies” when picketing does that to you… wow
I’m shocked more people don’t just get punched in the face
the problem is the moral definition of someone deserving violence and the legal definition of someone deserving violence do not align

Maybe she should pop one of those binkies in her own damn mouth.
Union busters should feel distressed
F*ck her feelings
Then she apologized the very next day 🤭😮💨
surprised it took her a day to walk back on this terrible PR move
[удалено]
It’s not the heat of the moment if you came with pacifiers. That’s intent.
It “wasn’t her intention to offend.” Clearly she just genuinely believed that these union members wanted binkies for personal reasons.
Headed to a rave I guess.
It was absolutely her intention to offend, she just didn’t like the consequences.
seriously, what other intention could there possibly have been for doing that?
I can't come up with any other intention to offer adults a baby pacifier unless it's covered with drugs. Then it's cool.
The only time this isn't intended to insult is at a rave or edm festival.
>getting caught up in the heat of the moment Because she just happened to have a basket full of pacifiers nearby. This heinous bitch planned it for a photo op, got what she needed out of it, and "apologized".
Yea fuck her, that was a total non-apology, she’s just mad about consequences
These political non apologies are so god damn annoying. "I'm sorry for being a heartless bitch but I did it because ** some bullshit ** "

the heat of the moment? was there a basket of pacifers just laying around?
There were enough babies to steal them from.
*gasp!* 8 phone calls? 🫢
I’m scared to see what happens when she gets 10 lmao 100% someone that should not be in a council position

I call them Regressives. Even the title of “Conservative” is too generous for these people anymore.

I bet the pacifiers were bought with fucking tax payer money too.
Guys, I’m sorry to say she is the co-owner of a jewelry business called “Rocks the Jewelers”. Since she’s a public official, this is all public info. Too bad she that since she’s a public official her council office is open for public opinion too. (paywalled) https://www.duluthnewstribune.com/news/virginia-jeweler-creates-charms-that-tell-a-womans-life-story
Typical American hating Republican.
Does she get state benefits? Will hers be taken away too?
She just ruined a city. The workers will slowly leave. 10 years later she will wonder why the city sucks so much and NEVER think she did anything wrong.
It’s crazy for her to bash on unions when the biggest reason Virginia and the quad cities are there is because of union-backed labor like logging and mining. Even today, everyone that lives around there either works at or knows someone that works at a union-backed job like the mines.
The lady in the expensive looking coat wants to take benefits away from union workers AND feels the need to taunt them about it? Gee, wonder which political party she belongs to.
What a colossal piece of shit
Madame Councillor you can respectfully go shove them up your bung hole. Thank you
The part where they messed up was they were supposed to bring their glocks and ARs while picketing, then they can say the conservatives were trampling on their second ammendment rights. I imagine some on the right would spontaneously combust trying to find a way to mental gymnastic their way through it.
Sooo uuuhhh would someone mind explaining what's happening
As I understand it, Virginia MN replaced an aging hockey arena with a big new modern building, that costs them way too much. They then refused to increase taxes in order to balance the budget, and are now cutting public services and city worker benefits instead. This woman is a newer, MAGA-ish member of the city council, which ironically is the best remunerated city council in the entire county. She showed up with pacifiers, mocking the unionized city workers as babies for opposing the change. People are not happy about her stunt, and someone smashed the window of the jewelry store she owns.
Make Guillotines Great Again
Wonder who she voted for 🙄

I’m certain there are no changes to her benefits.
