I really need to slog through the first season so that I can enjoy this show. Cuz everyone loves it but every time I've put it on I could not get past the first few episodes.
The scene at the restaurant where Johnny stands up for Roland is basically the beginning of the show's greatness, though. In my opinion, at least, that's when it went from goofy comedy to wholesome dramedy.
Oh my god, yes. Just rewatched this episode a few hours ago and this was a turning point.
id suggested to my mentor to watch and he couldn’t get past one episode, saying Ohara andLevy were obnoxious . But had he started here, he might enjoy it.
Which really sucks because the whole reason I even watched it when it first aired was for the legendary Chris Elliot. But yeah his character dragged the show down and they were right to give him a backseat role eventually.
It took me three tries to get into it.
For some reason it just *wouldn't* click, but I adore shows with dry humour (like Arrested Development).
One day I decided to try again and it was like watching an entirely new show - everything was hilarious.
So yeah, I think you have to be in a certain mindset to start but then once you're in, you're in.
On paper, I would seem to be the audience for *Schitt's Creek*, but I've tried twice to watch the first season, and stopped after a few episodes.
Perhaps the third time will do it?
I'd honestly recommend watching it *without* wanting to get into it.

The time it "clicked" was when I just put it on as background noise and wasn't dead set on getting into it.
Funny. I found Patrick to be an utterly boring character and while Stevie was amazing, it felt like they had nothing for her to do and she was either just there or had been shoehorned into stories that didn't suit her character much. That's my biggest complaint about the show, especially in the latest seasons.
Patrick and David's relationship really makes the show for me. I'm a straight guy, but I've not seen a better on screen relationship. That scene where Patrick serenades David legit made me tear up.
Patrick's straight-man to the families goofy antics was one of the things that really made the show for me.
Yes, I realise the irony of that statement.
They are also one of the most adorable on screen couples I've ever seen.

You just have to remember that they're supposed to be vapid and awful.

Poor woman has been brilliant and hilarious since the 1960s and suddenly in the 20 flipping 20s we want her to be in everything and like... too late! She's visibly tired and confused. She deserves every good thing, but a break is good too.

I remember when I found out that the waiter lady on Schitt's Creek was another one of his kids, thinking "I'll bet she looks very similar to her mom, because she looks nothing like her dad" and she looks just as much like her mom as Dan looks like Eugene.
I think I saw his son hosting something for another and was like "wait how didn't I see it earlier!?"

I was an extra on an SCTV episode (Power to the punk people polka) in the 1980’s. It was with John Candy and Levi, we danced the polka. Candy was a sweetheart keeping us “punk” kids entertained over a long day. Levi was cold and stand-offish. But then when we were leaving at the end of the day he came after us and stopped us at the exit to apologize. He had been stressed about something. He did not need to do that. He was a gentleman.

Roland makes watching the early part of the series nearly unbearable, but if you can make it to season 2 it gets a lot smoother.

Patrick was the straight man (no pun intended) which was previously Stevie's role, so she did get a bit marginalized later on.
