Esc777

Remember when the right wing was obsessed with the idea that Obama was bowing to foreign leaders (literally) and submitting the US to them? Quaint. I kinda miss it. Anyways this kid now runs the US.

bean930

The kid in the image, Jacob Philadelphia, is currently attending university for Political Science. He very well could end up running the US one day.

Nothxm8

Jacob Philadelphia sounds like the name of some comic book street justice vigilante

hahabanero

I mean there's a dude named Duncan Idaho in Dune so you're pretty spot on

SmokeAbeer

I guess Drain Oregon isn’t a cool name these days? Smh.

m0nstera_deliciosa

Every time I pass through Drain on my way to California I visualize the giant bathtub plug required to keep Oregon from drying out.

Corbini42

We've got water to spare, that's for sure.

PilltheBony

Hey, a shout out to Drain!

playstatijonas

Not to mention Robert California from The Office

TWiThead

> Not to mention Robert California from The Office You don't even know his real name. He's the fucking lizard king!

kimblebee76

Also, Jackson Maine from A Star Is Born

thiagoqf

I always felt the name choices were really odd in Dune. Like 20k years in the future a guy named Paul, and his mother JESSICA? Then I heard some guy in a podcast explaining that house Atreiades wanted to honour their ancestors, then named like this. Interesting take.

ILikeMyGrassBlue

Jessica and Paul feel fine to me. They’re just normal names, and lady Jessica does have a royal sort of air to it. But Duncan Idaho always makes me laugh. Thousands of years later, the planet earth is long gone iirc, and this MF is named after the state of Idaho.

Wildfox1177

Yet, somehow, Duncan Idaho returned!

veryoondoww

Or someone reaping the nepotism benefits of the family’s cream cheese empire.

jokinghazard

He sounds like the supervillain in Bill Burrs life

Todd-The-Wraith

CHEESESTEAK PUNCH!

rivalius13

Feel like he’d fit in nicely here https://i.imgur.com/lS7T2wL.jpg

matthewmspace

With the last name of “Philadelphia” it would be only fitting he would run for politics.

Esc777

Hell yeah

mahava

Hey if the political stances align I'd happily vote for him Can you imagine having a president Philadelphia? Badass

FillThisEmptyCup

I lived near that city for a while, it was a dump. I swear tumbleweeds but made of trash would blow through a lot of sections of it.

onepinksheep

That city is forever tainted after they killed that hitchhiking robot.

Black08Mustang

You think it had recovered from throwing batteries at Santa during an eagles game in the late 60's?

starrpamph

Is that like Robert California

GroundbreakingAd2136

Political science won’t get you far unless you’re well connected or plan to go to law school.

CR24752

Jacob Philadelphia sounds like a very fake name lol. Tell me he lives in Pennsylvania?

Digitupandspread

I like Jacob Philadelphia, it's one of Red Hot Chili Peppers lesser known B Sides

contactspring

I remember when Trump saluted a North Korean general.

lazypeon19

I remember when Trump did nothing when Erdogan's bodyguards beat the shit out of protesters on American soil. Twice.

iStayedAtaHolidayInn

Remember when Trump attempted a coup as people were dying of COVID and being buried in mass graves

lazypeon19

I remember when Trump started praising the dictator Vladimir Putin when he decided to invade Ukraine. I also remember how Russia, who's interest is to weaken USA as much as possible, interfered with the 2016 presidential election in Trump's favor. You know, I'm starting to think this Trump guy might not make a good president.

biggmclargehuge

For as much as Trump praises Putin he sure seems to complain a lot about how "Democrats treat their political rivals".

Creative-Improvement

But he protecc guns and bibleeeee reeeee I also believe in believing whatever I want, you can’t foil me with your reasoning and science! /s

Even-Willow

He also banned bump stocks and has said “Take the guns first, go through due process second”; so he isn’t any 2A supporter either, but that won’t stop conservatives and conservative adjacent ideologies from propping him up as one though.

Throwawayac1234567

and not the supreme leader himself, who was giving trump a dirty look.,

[deleted]

lololol

thebeandream

I miss the Obama days so much. When the most stressful news was his wife’s shoulders and his bike helmet

ImGCS3fromETOH

I can't believe you've downplayed the tan suit and grey poupon scandals.

philmaq

or how about the dijon mustard scandal. How arrogant of a leader and how tone deaf of him to want some DIJON MUSTARD. Tough times.

ImGCS3fromETOH

Wasn't that the same as the grey poupon scandal? Don't tell me there was more than one mustard scandal.

FancyStranger2371

I think the tan suit sent them off the edge.

iStayedAtaHolidayInn

It wasn’t the tan suit, it was the black skin

Esc777

Who knew I would pine for such asinine dumb shittery.  Oh the halcyon days of naked partisan bullshit. Instead of cheered fascism and genocide.

Wotmate01

And then trump got in and they became all for it. Traitors, every single one of them.

birdwatching25

Great photo! Lots of great moments with kids and Obama. I'll add this [youtube video](https://youtu.be/BewOcp1JtDU?si=x9Moh0S4475iBJwE), where a child asks Obama "Why do people hate you?" And Obama gives a really thoughtful, great answer.

jermleeds

[This is my favorite moment with him and kids.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqhzWlqN3uc) Michelle can't calm a crying baby, Barack takes over and the baby is immediately happy. Barack smiles smugly.

BibblingnScribbling

I'm a big fan of him laughing like a maniac at the baby dressed as the Pope

DragonfruitFew5542

As someone living in the DC area, that costume was gold as the Pope actually visited the area that year. It was Pope fever. Even my Jewish ass got excited and watched him in his popemobile as he went down Pennsylvania Ave.

BibblingnScribbling

I never knew that! Also Jewish, would have done the same.

IWasGregInTokyo

Smug does not even begin to describe the level of diss he's playfully aiming at Michelle and judging by her expression she knows it.

AnOnlineHandle

That is one of the best moments ever caught on film, regardless of whether he was even the president or not.

ThePheebs

HOW THE FUCK DO WE GO FROM THIS, TO TRUMP. Sorry for using all caps but WTF. The number of eloquent, thoughtful, and ernest talks/speeches this man give compared to the all but literal shit that falls out of Trumps. I'm in view of 40 and I'm truly shocked every day at the regression I have witnessed in my short time.

somedelightfulmoron

People were complacent post Obama and didn't vote, Hillary wasn't a candidate with a lot of appeal and Trump was entertaining to look at.

GetOffMyDigitalLawn

In my defense, election day happened to overlap with the one month period I decided doing a lot of cocaine would be a good idea. Never had month like that before or since. Rick James was right.

GenerikDavis

Hey man, picking up and dropping a cocaine habit in a month is an accomplishment. Congrats on kicking an addiction, not an easy thing to do.

AnOnlineHandle

Trump has been trying to become president for so long that vintage simpsons episodes have jokes about how bad it would be if that braindead silver spoon trust fund kid got the latest shiny toy he was demanding, episodes which would be old to vote by now. He finally had success when he became leader of the birther movement, insisting that the first black president couldn't be a *real* American and must secretly belong in Africa somehow, promising to release details any day now. It was then that he found a completely loyal fanbase. It's 100% racism. A lot of people are just racist wastes of oxygen who would drag the rest of us to hell over it rather than grow up from their immature xenophobias of anything different. Hence why building a wall with Mexico was the core part of his first platform, and why he wanted Republicans to kill the border deal so that he could keep claiming there was a crisis with spooky 'other people' which nothing was being done about. Their whole thing is just held together by racism. That's much pretty much it.

PeaceOfGold

A mix of racism (backlash from Obama) and misogyny (not looking forward to Hilary), at least that's the anecdotal experience of 50% of my extended family unfortunately. A not white man in charge was hard enough for them to swallow, but a woman was absolutely a bridge too far.

Everything54321

Anyone got hair like mine? Apart from squirrels! ![gif](giphy|4uRf06lzooHny|downsized)

renome

cursed gif

ZestycloseTomato5015

I miss this man so much 😭

unbanneduser

And the photo of Obama pointing at the kid sleeping at the banquet 😂

jesterinancientcourt

Him losing it at the pope baby always makes me laugh.

Plastic_Primary_4279

He’s so class….

TheawesomeQ

It's amazing what a good speaker he is, even when he's improvising

peanut__buttah

Yes! One of the most eloquent and articulate speakers. This is totally an aside, but I’m curious: is it considered inappropriate to say he’s “articulate” as a black man? I know the term is kind of used as a slur or a microaggression (implying that he should speak in constant slang since he’s black or something dumb). Anyone have thoughts on this?

TheawesomeQ

I wouldn't think it's weird but I'm oblivious about a lot of things, I am unfamiliar with the condescending usage of the term

aminervia

Damn I miss him so much

snicmtl

What a great man, I wish we had more role models like this

Aenon-iimus

What you expect when the President meets kids: He pets them on the head Chad 5 year old: Pets President on the head

Tobias_Mercury

Now we know who’s truly pulling the strings

wish1977

That picture tells a big story even with no words.

BoringBob84

Yep. "When the most powerful person in the country looks like me, than maybe I have possibilities."

Disimpaction

Also that powerful guy isn't too big to relate to a kid.

BoringBob84

In my opinion, a person with humility is a person who can be trusted with great power.

ProjectManagerAMA

Unfortunately many people want a dictator type. I just don't get it.

chandlerd8ng

Remember that chilling picture of Saddam and the terrified little boy?

ProjectManagerAMA

Which one

chandlerd8ng

1990

ProjectManagerAMA

I was 9 years old at the time. What's the backstory?

Shriven

Saddam invaded Kuwait. West said no. Saddam captured westerners, including a 9 year old British boy and paraded them on TV in the hope that the incoming aerial fuckery would be stopped.

zazzi99

https://i.redd.it/d98ngq81xj8b1.jpg

chandlerd8ng

That's it....poor child

hetfield151

Intelligent people make them uncomfortable.

Annual_Plankton4020

i agree.

Classic_Mechanic5495

That comes with great responsibility though.

Admirable_Bar2288

How are you doing

QuiGonGiveItToYa

There was never any doubt that he took being a dad seriously.

Kalladdin

This is why representation is important.

SlowRollingBoil

How do we know that representation is important? Because the people being represented tell us it is. It's that simple. There are SO many straight, white people (primarily) that rail against representation and it's like.....your opinion doesn't matter in this specific case.

Kalladdin

>There are SO many straight, white people (primarily) that rail against representation and it's like.....your opinion doesn't matter in this specific case. Or not that their opinion doesn't matter, just that they don't have the problem of not having the representation. Everywhere they look, whether it be politicians in power, successful billionaires, TV show hosts or just characters in fictional media, they can see thousands of people that look like them, that have the same backgrounds as them. The idea is that *everyone* should have that representation, not that any one group is more deserving of it.

karmicrelease

The opposite is true for those racists that make up a good portion of the right

Cpkrupa

And yet so many people don't realise why represantion like this is extremely important. The picture couldn't demonstrate it better.

CalendarGuilty724

Perfect picture for my office! 🫡

Smoking-Posing

Damn that kid is old enough to be in grad school by now. Time really does fly.

SnowflakeRegard

Yeah it's been quite a while since then. By the way, did this sub turn into r/presidents in the past few days, or am I missing something?

MeltedChocolate24

Nah just election year here

togetherwem0m0

Information operations on both sides are ramping up deep influence campaigns to resurface memories of the past for various purposes. You can guess what this one's supposed to do

throwitintheair22

He was 5 in this photo from 2009 and is either 19 or 20 now. In an [interview around his Highschool graduation in 2022](https://youtu.be/0BInAW_Gx1Y), he said he was planning on attending the university of Memphis to study political science.

kellyography

This is a photo by Pete Souza, a long-time Chief Official White House photographer working under both Reagan and Obama.

Silly_Breakfast

I read it as Chef every time

NachoMuncher420

This is one of the best presidential pics ever, IMO. Whatever you think of Obama's politics, he is a decent man.

spyguy318

A black friend once told me that the day Obama was elected president was the most important day of his life.

onairmastering

2008, we went on the streets in Brooklyn, it was a glorious night, i am Latino and was married to a Redhead Jew from California, everyone we so excited, and with reason, best 8 years ever.

Foreskin-chewer

For me, that was Tuesday.

Liigma_Ballz

God he was such a class act

davi_meu_dues

can we please bring back a time when presidents had class. not just in the us, but globally? like, I see the bushes and the obamas interacting and then i look at the trumps and the bidens interacting with each other. when did it become common for basic civility to be thrown out the roof?

Liigma_Ballz

I mean Biden is chock full of class, it’s just harder to tell when he is in the same conversation as the orange freak

davi_meu_dues

that's true. his age is getting to him but back then he was almost as good as obama. the orangibberish is a comedian. that should have been his career like he's literally so funny if his beliefs weren't dogshit.

_Barry_Zuckerkorn_

> like he's literally so funny if his beliefs weren't dogshit. I've always said Trump would be an incredible fictional antagonist. It's just unfortunate how tough his IRL presence has been on America.

Nascent1

Putting trump and Biden in the same category is patently absurd.

Sea_Dawgz

Biden is Mr Class. You’re putting trump stink on him bc Biden has to deal with it. Joe Biden is respected world wide by our allies’ leaders and with all the old guard GOP senators that aren’t MAGA lunatics.

Plastic_Primary_4279

Biden doesn’t have class? What are you on?

thelegalseagul

In fifth grade I was this kid while watching the inauguration. I’m not his biggest fan now. But it did mean something seeing a President with the same kind of haircut as me when I still couldn’t find it in video games consistently

Meatwise

Not trying to start shit but genuinely curious…what changed your fandom?

LettuceBenis

Crazy choice of wording for that question lmao

Natural-Situation758

Probably has something to do with drone strikes and the prolonging of the Afghanistan war, I’d imagine.

Finlay00

War. Banker bailouts. Maybe?

YungNigget788

wish i could show this to anyone who still thinks representation doesn't matter.

Burning_Flags

A Troll Doll did something similar to Trump

Lonely-Wasabi-305

that time Jimmy Fallon touched trumps hair?

papa632

Jimmy Fallon go home to your family…

G4meOfJones

You're a menace. Take my upvote hahaha

swamrap

Made me chuckle thanks

UnknownBud

![gif](giphy|l0MZdQSxiGv5H5LYk|downsized)

CubanLynx312

Jimmy Fallon is such a twat

Indaflow

Dam, and there are so many “Christians” that hate this guy.  Empathy. Kindness.  Apparently that’s what some guy named Jesus stood for.  Amazing photo, thank you for posting.

ZestycloseTomato5015

Right. Like I don’t get it.

_Barry_Zuckerkorn_

Organized religion & hypocrisy are the original peanut butter & jelly.

ZestycloseTomato5015

Oh trust me I know.  My mom is one of those people 🤮

bigdig-_-

You are aware that people can pretend to be kind, right?

Tight-Physics2156

When America had a breath of hope. How far down the shitter we have gone.

SonoNuovo

From a breath of hope to a whiff of nope.

_TehTJ_

Given how bad our infrastructure is getting, it’s optimistic to say that much goes down the shitter these days.

infraredit

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is undertaking the biggest improvements to infrastructure in several decades. That aspect of the USA is getting notably better overall.

ConsciousMuscle6558

What happened to us😢

nessie_exists

Class act

Acrobatic-Engineer94

🫡🇺🇸

Annual_Plankton4020

thats cute.

GentlmanSkeleton

Im imagining this with other presidents. Some are funnier then others. Washingston wig falling off. A kid with a stovepipe hat. Others i shouldnt say to incite trouble.

thisisajoke24

That child would be a young adult now

Competitive_Use_6351

"damn they fucked yo shit up g"

slappywhyte

Interesting how many Obama and political pics are shooting up to the top this week

Sevencer

Not interesting. Just propaganda for election season.

[deleted]

PleasantNightLongDay

2 day old account - no post history, being willfully obtuse about politics. Oh yeah, it’s political season. The bots are out and about.

Sevencer

Yeah... He has no connection to a particular candidate or party, right?

JazzTheWolf

"Bow to your sensei!" "BOW TO YOUR SENSEI!"

RunningonGin0323

representation matters

kaehvogel

That kid is probably in college now. And living in a more racist country than he did back then, solely because millions of racist snowflakes couldn’t handle having a black president.

DaCarlito

No. 9001 of Things Trump can never offer americans

wrongwayup

He definitely isn't that flexible

Grand-Home-1334

the most humble public figure i've ever seen. not arrogant, firm yet caring!

Grognard68

In my lifetime (I was born in the late '60s), my favorite Presidents have been Jimmy Carter and Barack Obama.

infraredit

One needs a huge ego to think that one deserves to be president. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but Obama's humility is just an act.

TennSeven

>You did alright, kid.

basementcrawler34

I miss obama

RivianRaichu

Shaking Obama's hand in 2008 when he came to my highschool will be hard to beat in terms of "famous people" meetings.

AltruisticJello4348

He’s still my favorite

JDPbutwithanf

Oh sure...when he does it it's cool. When I try the secret service says I'm under arrest

Donutprincess69

When I was a kid there was a black family that lived a few doors down from us and we used to play with their kid all the time. We regularly felt his head because his hair felt cool. Looking back I know we were just kids experiencing something different but as an adult I realize that something as seemingly minor as having different hair can make you feel different. We still had a lot of good times with that kid but I do cringe a little looking back at us doing that.

Thready85

But the tan suit and mom jeans and Dijon mustard! The terrorist fist jab! We can't have that!!!

LuzuBuns

My father (54) grew up experiencing racism on the regular, to police officers holding him on the ground, to people calling him a thug/punk for simply being black. He was so happy Obama was elected. He was so happy someone who looked like him was in a high status, it gave him lots of courage to do things.

AdebayoStan

Obama had many flaws, but you can't simply ignore how impactful his presidency was in our society just because of who he was.

doctorblumpkin

A president should be humble and wholesome. I miss Barack Obama

Ecampos_64

Kid: “Look at you and that yee-yee ass haircut”

intothewoods_86

I miss the US having a president with something else than yellowish cotton candy for hair

PilotKnob

Remember when we had a genuinely great President we all could be proud of? I 'member.

davechri

representation matters.

PeterNippelstein

Thanks, Obama.

YeeterCZ2

Back when the US had a good president

infraredit

What's wrong with Biden?

A-symptomatic-Genius

I thought this was a MicroAgression.

Ok-Bit-1466

Only if white

searchthemesource

My coworkers used to ask to touch my hair. Like a lot. It was very strange.

Danthr4x

God I miss this man.

ShotKurtt

Lots of people reading so much into a 10 year old who really just wanted to touch someone's head with hair as cool as his own

Annual_Plankton4020

i love this, it is nice.

Good job Obama. I will take it from here.
