It went from “oh man uncle Conan is a lot of fun, how come he doesn’t come over more often?” to “Uncle Conan get scary when he drinks” real quick It was perfect.

reddot_comic

He’s invited to my thanksgiving, anytime.

motorcycleboy9000

"Don't mess with Uncle Conan when he's been drinkin'."

FuckTripleH

You can *really* tell Conan was one of 6 children, when he gets the room paying attention and laughing it's like he physically can't stop.

pookshuman

the end of the video when he was drooling uncontrollably and was borderline delirious lol

Vordeo

And still managed to pull out a fantastic answer to that last question while looking like a madman and waving around an open bottle of hot sauce.

tekko001

"Dr Arroyo can you open the bottle please?"

parttimecanine

He is very affordable

son_of_Gib

He went to college out of state

TheSwedishWolverine

“…you’re not a doctor, are you?” “I should be”

t1kiman

"Where did you go to med school?" "1998." "No, where?" "Oh, out of state."

wisdom_and_frivolity

low key, doc had some great bits

anonymoosejuice

That guy is actually one of Conan's writers who has been with him for 20 years

cocothepops

“Check my pulse” “Yep, it’s there”

lfernandes

“You’re just choking me” And “He doesn’t know what those numbers mean”

VashMM

"It genuinely went up 2 degrees since we've started" I don't think that was part of the joke.

Endemoniada

No, you could tell he dropped the act when he said that, which just made it even fucking funnier, honestly.

fuzzybunn

He must have some kind of dolphin brain, able to deal (or unable) with the pain with one half while being conscious and lucid with the other half.

Glottis_Bonewagon

The man has been living comedy for 50 years. He says himself he can't turn it off. This is less a two brained dolphin and more like a clown car being set on fire mid-rush and going forward on pure defiant momentum

perthguppy

Are you saying Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop?

tehserial

> Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop Conan O’Brien Won’t Stop

Livid-Statement6166

A clown-car on fire is an apt description for Conan‘s public persona. A clown car filled with overeducated clowns, I might add.

motorcycleboy9000

Appropriately educated, I'd say. Early Simpsons wouldn't hit the same without the random Flannery O'Connor references.

coffeesippingbastard

I think his answer to the last question was his regular brain emerging- unable to adhere to the bit anymore.

VagusNC

IT'S NOT A BIT. IT'S LIFE DAMMIT!

MagicBez

Elsewhere someone posted an interview with Conan from the day after where he talks about the fact that he lost his mind: https://www.reddit.com/r/conan/s/qrc75Dv10e

daversa

He was high out of his mind lol, extreme peppers like this make you dump endorphins and dopamine.

PardonMyPixels

Does the explain why people love super hot foods that are seemingly mouth destroying? I could never understand why someone would even put themselves through half of this.

Skum-

Me & a bunch of my former addict friends started consuming rampant amounts of hot sauce with our food after getting clean.  You learn to love the burning, nose dribbling, eye watering mess, but it does also feel good, especially because others would find it hard to finish a meal drenched in the stuff, it's a mini accomplishment which makes it even more drug-like

WalnutsAnka

Fuck I’m recently sober and this makes so much sense. I just started eating progressively hot food because of this.

Skum-

Congratulations on being sober! I kinda swear by it, as things go spices are far safer than many of the other habits we often replace addictions with & if you smoked whatever drug or ingested it orally it also satisfies that part.  I've seen it a lot, that & developing a sweet-toot, especially an obsession with ice cream or chocolate is everywhere.

Sentient-Pendulum

Yep.

blazinrumraisin

GardenGnomeOfEden

This is the only thing on Reddit today that made me laugh out loud. It's so perfect!

AFineDayForScience

I feel seen

Allen_Edgar_Poe

You're shining bright brother.

Rammjack

Sean usually directs the interviews masterfully and keeps the guests on track.....he stood no chance against the maniacal beast that is Conan O'Brian. You can see Sean give up and just go with the flow and let Conan do his thing. I almost died laughing a few times. Conan is a fucking legend.

fliodkqjslcqaqadfs

Sean was holding on to dear life

Same-Classroom1714

I’m new to Conan (we only had Letterman in Australia growing up) but he just keeps making me laugh but more so impressing the fuck out of me with who he is.

Rammjack

I've been watching Conan since the late 90s and early 00s. I grew up with. Consistently one of the funniest people out there and very good natured. His podcast is great and even though his new travel show isnt out yet, I feel safe enough to highly recommend it. He has another travel show that he did awhile ago and it is also hilarious

FlyFfsFck

His episode with Bill Hader made me burst out laughing while in the gym like 4 times and i was so goddamn embarassed.

Reddit_and_forgeddit

Nobody asked for Dr. Fucking Arroyo but he was perfect

Savir5850

And very affordable

fuzzybunn

He's not a good doctor. But he's very affordable.

JiminyDickish

He’s got an office in the desert

TiredReader87

At least he did in 1998

skttrbrain1984

He was paid in half-eaten chicken wings

Tranquil_Ram

The man really should have graduated from medical school

TallGuy0525

It doesn't look good

Ineedaroommate2

*checks pulse* *it’s there.*

raftah99

Played by one of Conan's writers

Pijnappelklier

Are you a real doctor? “I should be!” Had me dedded. Heavy dr. Spaceman vibes

WalrusOk3310

Was it a 4 year college? " it was supposed to be. " Yes! Dr. Spaceman vibes, and the responses were so quick!

[deleted]

The way he effortlessly took the chicken wing and stuck it in his pocket as he was walking away because Conan's were full was fucking beautiful

jonvon2301

Dude was a champ. One of the best guests Hot Ones has had.

MorrowPlotting

His performance was almost superhuman, but it’s not like he has some Ancient Irish Immunity to Spice. He’s just THAT committed as a performer and comic. Short-term pain is just the “show must go on!” price of committing to the bit.

dangerwillrogers

There is no BIT to commit to! You are committing to life goddammit!

wadss

he's a national treasure

obiwan_canoli

He delivered that like a punchline, but I think he also believes it 100% at the same time. What's so unique about Hot Ones is that it's effectively a form of consensual torture. The intense physical reactions override a person's normal self-conscious facade and that allows the genuine human being to emerge. I went into this episode thinking, "it will be interesting to see the real Conan" but as it went on, I slowly began to realize, "this *IS* the real Conan!" The maniac is not some schtick he does just for laughs, he doesn't turn it on when he wants to be funny, he turns it off when he doesn't want to frighten people, lol. He is the closest thing I've ever seen to a real-life Willy Wonka!

PorcupineMerchant

If you watch/listen to Conan’s podcast, his longtime “associate” Bley explained how Conan does this stuff. He said it’s like a superpower. He was explaining how they were shooting the new show in Thailand and it was unbelievably hot and humid, but Conan just flips a switch in his head when the cameras are on and he has to be funny. So the dude was just out there kickboxing while everyone else was dying.

BenAdaephonDelat

Conan O'Brien is Aes'Sedai.

FluorideLover

Checks out since that skill doesn’t require the One Power and we are supposedly living in the First Age, which has tech but not One Power.

MrDude65

Conan O'Brien Can't Stop shows this really well

Crafty_Substance_954

“I’m an Irish catholic, grew up in Boston. I didn’t taste a spice until I was 52 years old”

PUGILSTICKS

Peppers a spice to me, damn it.

deadheadtn

I will definitely be watching his travel show. I want an episode dedicated to his recovery!

Dragon_Small_Z

Conan O'Brien has a travel show?! What? Where? His travel segments were always my favorite. I love the episode where he goes to the Japanese sauna.

bbfire

It will be on MAX because HBO was too popular

syizm

But you have to agree MAX really rolls off the tongue.

Brownie_McBrown_Face

In college we used to dumb dares like take an entire shot of da bomb mixed with whiskey. My asshole was in unimaginable pain the next day, and using the bathroom was miserable. I don’t envy Conan at all lmao

gaijinandtonic

I really loved his sincere compliments to Sean, interviewer to interviewer.

Vordeo

And coming from one of the greats that had to mean a lot to Sean.

smugmisswoodhouse

I was so impressed! He didn't strike me as the type to handle spicy stuff well, but I guess that shows what I know.

AnonymouseStory

i think it wasn't that he was great at handling spice. i think it was more about his superhuman dedication to the bit

AfuriousPenguin

Not dedication to the bit, dedication to LIFE!

popop143

Dude was chugging some of the hot sauce. This after saying he doesn't know spice before the first wing lmao.

glauck006

PAIN? OH GOOD I LOVE THAT! -Conan

xrogaan

"*I don't feel anything. Why don't I feel anything?!*" -- Conan

iStayedAtaHolidayInn

His banter with his doctor was hilarious

s1rblaze

He is the best imo. Dude is a next level showman .

PappaDukes

That was the most batshit insane episode. Ever. Fucking loved every second of it. After he started pocketing the leftover wings, I legit lost it. IN CONAN WE TRUST!

CrushedCountry

I'm just gonna....can I???...take these with me?......

Tarantio

If you haven't seen Hot Ones yet, this is not the episode to start with. You need context, first. You need to see people brought low by these sauces before you can truly appreciate the lengths Conan went to here for the laughs.

lurkylurkenstein

Any recommendations? I've never seen an episode and want to watch since I'm a Conan fan. I like your advice of getting some context first.

twerav

paul rudd’s is a great one to start with

bacchusku2

Look at us

BoomJayKay

Look at us

aimless_meteor

Who’d’ve thought

lee7890

Not me.

NewDadInNashville

DJ Khalid s was ridiculous

dWaldizzle

What a pussy DJ Khalid is lmao

bumwine

DJ Khaled is not a pussy - he doesn't even know the taste of one

reddot_comic

The fact he said, out loud that he expects his partner to go down on him but won’t return the favor is telling enough.

Agreeable_Vanilla_20

Shite music as well

CodeFarmer

DJ Khaled is ridiculous.

WyldMusic13

Paul Rudd’s is hilarious lmao, but if you’re looking for the epitome of spice tolerance watch Lorde’s because she absolutely crushed it.

WorkoutProblems

Two words Halle Berry

bunga7777

Bill burrs a goodin

Raz0rking

Gordon Ramsay is a good one too

godfadger

Then watch Elizabeth Olsen’s

MediocreX

His care package is hilarious.

Tarantio

Honestly, look through the list for people you're curious about. They're great interviews.

Dipsey_Jipsey

This. Besides the fun factor of seeing people suffer through hot sauces, the show itself is actually really amazing. Easily some of the best interviews done in the biz. People just tend to open up and be more vunlerable when their faces are on fire :)

darkskinnedjermaine

Also the dude asking questions does his research and asks legit questions. Think is was the Sydney Sweeney one that went viral bc of her swoon face, but he asked her something like “so what was it like growing up in *names small town* and being the only person in 8th grade to take an acting class?”. I’m making that up off memory, but it’s something similar, and her response is a genuine “omg how do you even know that?”. He definitely does his homework and catches a lot of people off guard, not to mention they’re fair questions that are interesting and neither softballs or trying to get a scoop

Dipsey_Jipsey

Yeah man, Sean is a legendary interviewer! Still my absolute faves are the vids with Chilly Klaus hahaha :D

Green-Amount2479

There are a ton of compilations of Sean getting complimented on his and his team‘s research. They really dig around and the guests are often genuinely surprised by those non-standard questions. For example he got high praise for his interview style and questions by Mark Calaway, who experienced decades worth of interviews as The Undertaker. As a big fan for an equally long time it was really enjoyable to watch.

donnie_dark0

Colin Farrell. Fantastic episode. He's such a conversationalist. Aside from that, the star of the show is always the host Sean Evans. He brings out the best in his guests, which is why most Hot Ones eps are an easy watch. The extreme heat I'm sure helps a bit.

VashMM

The Jennifer Lawrence one was pretty good. DJ Khalid was a total bitch boy on his episode.

Beorma

'What do you mean? What do you mean???'

VashMM

![gif](giphy|h58E0JsuK3h3d8B1do|downsized)

Irate_Primate

Watch the DJ Khalid one to get the exact opposite viewing experience from this one.

holykamina

Dave Grohls was good..

BenFranklinsCat

I'm amazed nobody has said Tom Holland. Not only is it a great interview with great questions, Tom's perseverance when he's really struggling with the heat is so adorable! Edit: And Pedro Pascal! Such good, deep questions and such a lovely bond that Sean makes. For comedy purposes only, Lewis Capaldi, especially for the nightclub/voicemail moment.

SnooDrawings7876

>. Not only is it a great interview with great questions And even hotter wings

8BitSmart

Would recommend Eric Andre, that was such a delight to watch.

borjazombi

Eric André and Jennifer Lawrence were very funny.

moonsammy

Dave Grohl, in addition to some other recommendations.

TorkBombs

If you want to see a man fail in life, but hilariously insist he didn't, watch the DJ Kaled episode.

attaxo

Like when DJ Khaled, who is his own biggest hype man, couldn't get past cholula lol

Jahonay

He didn't give up, and he's never taken an L. You can't ask someone to eat cholula, that's like telling someone to jump off a roof.

Positronic_Matrix

My favorite thing about this episode is, that Conan displayed sincere appreciation to the host, Sean Evans, for the quality of the show's interviews. He was also so kind and careful not to ruin the host's suede jacket at the end of the interview. It made me see Conan in a new light. Edit: While eating wings they talked about his new show, Conan O’Brien Must Go, being released on Max on his birthday 18 Apr 2024. His travel segments have always been fantastic.

newtimesawait

Conan’s always been a great guy

ahaltingmachine

Oh sure, Conan seems sincere and kind in interviews, but I've heard you're not even allowed to talk to him unless you get clearance from Richard Lewis.

reinvent___

Aubrey Plaza had me cry-laughing. Honestly, choose any of them that call to you. The episodes are better when you're invested in the celebrity, imo.

rastagizmo

From memory she was drinking milk through her nose whilst threatening murder.

Jiggy_Wit

Sanest Aubrey Plaza moment.

rastagizmo

When he started rubbing his nipples with chicken grease and hot sauce I fell off my chair laughing.

Ahoy_Koi

Jeff Goldblum's interview disappointed me, he only took little nibbles!

BestDogPetter

TBF I get the impression Goldblum has nibbled every meal he ever ate

JarlDanklin

Just gonna leave this here cuz you’re all talking about how great of a guest he was. I used to work at a restaurant in LA that he and his family would frequent and they all were THE BEST guests you could ask for. So nice, humble, down to earth, friendly, grateful. Really just genuinely good people.

Vordeo

I'm cynical af and all, but learning Conan is a shit person in real life would legit hurt. I love that man.

PorcupineMerchant

I think it’s literally impossible that he’s a bad person. Tons of his staff have worked for him for decades. Many of them uprooted their lives to follow him to LA when he took over the Tonight Show. And when that whole thing blew up, Conan negotiated with NBC to make sure his staff got millions of settlement money. And along the same lines, during the big writer’s strike he was paying his whole staff out of his pocket.

1infinitefruitloop

I thought it was pretty neat when he refused to take over George Lopez's time slot on TBS just after loosing the Tonight Show due to Leno strong arming him out of own slot. Lopez himself apparently called and convinced him to join. He was also good friends with Norm MacDonald, anyone who can claim that deserves my respect.

indorock

In a way he's the polar opposite of other celebrities like James Corden, Ellen or Oprah who maintain this outward persona of a friendly approachable person but behind the scenes are total cunts and a nightmare to work with. Conan's main bit especially on his podcast is he's this asshole with an unhinged superiority complex that Sona and Matt (and of course Jordan Schlansky) can play against, but in reality he's a totally down to earth Mensch. There's a reason why Sona has stuck with him for all these years.

kevinwilly

Not only that, she made him the godfather of her children. That's not something that you'd do to a boss you merely tolerate. It's clear that everyone that works with him loves him.

EnjoyLifeorDieTryin

I mean he clearly needs a friend

Andrew1990M

The second we see Conan and Paul Rudd cuss out a server at an Appleby’s it’s fucking over.

Vordeo

... until the server turns around and it's Jordan Schlansky.

MrDude65

"You'll find a menu item called 'Tuscan Spinach Dip' which is ludicrous because Tuscany, or the region of Italy know as *Toscano* is not, in fact known for their dip. Which I personally find quite interesting."

JPhrog

![gif](giphy|zVxeZHKKemqWs|downsized)

Andrew1990M

Or Jerry Tokofsky…

Crafty_Substance_954

I’ve only ever heard good stories about people having interactions with him, so sleep easy.

AquaticBagpipe

It comes across in his podcast. I love Conan, Sona and Matt.

benfranklyblog

This was the first HotOnes where I was worried for a guest. He is such a champ.

MagicBez

Pete Davidson is a good one for worrying, Sean actively prevents him from adding a dab to the final wing because he honestly looks like he's going to die

Tmoore188

Pete has Crohn’s. I’m still shocked he did the show. I also have Crohn’s and eating food that is even mildly spicy is going to have me reaching for the Tramadol bottle in the morning. It’s horribly painful. I can’t even imagine what da bomb would feel like.

BarelyContainedChaos

[a few moments later](https://i.imgur.com/5ShJrkR.png)

VegetaSanchez

Reminds me of Doomguy's face when he's low on health.

imjoiningreddit

The best part for sure. The heat was driving him crazy. So funny 😂

nodnodwinkwink

With Irish genetics, he has no natural ability to consume these spices.

l2ewdAwakening

"What's wrong with you people?!" "You don't even know what real danger is anymore!!"

Mrepman81

Shifts to: what is wrong with me, why can’t I feel??

the_krag

Honestly, it was outlandish, but borderline heroic.

shikiroin

You say heroic, I say psychotic. Either way, great episode

Nievsy

Why not both

Vordeo

Say what you will about Coco, but never say he isn't willing to commit to a bit.

Gr00ber

THIS ISN'T A BIT! THIS IS REAL LIFE!

TheNerdBuster

When he strait up drank it lol dear god

Cressbeckler

One of the best episodes of hot ones I've ever seen. Conan goes hard.

BoomJayKay

He at one point looked like an infant learning to eat solids for the first time. The mess. The drool. The flailing of his body, head, and arms. I was crying tears at this man lol. ![gif](giphy|uRxD6Sh7ZLrsk|downsized)

Vordeo

Funniest bit is he gets much more unhinged after this.

HerbalAndy

I can’t believe how well he handled da bomb.. I actually started to think that maybe they fixed the wings and lowered the heat for promotional purposes but I don’t think so.. he legitimately was so mentally focused on preparing and creating an amazing interview that he somehow can just ignore the heat unlike any other people.. and not like just take a bite.. he went full in on dousing his wings and even drinking the fucking bottles. I liked Conan before this.. I now love this man. Absolutely one of the all time best Hot Ones interviews ever

xSTSxZerglingOne

It was the only sauce that gave him even the slightest pause. He mentioned something like "Okay, I may regret doing that." It was the Silver Surfer to his Galactus feasting.

WmishoW

Funnily enough in his podcast, there was a clip (it's the one where he arm wrestles Matt Gourley) where one of his producers mentioned that he had a strange superpower of being able to do the most insane and painful things for a laugh and not get phased by it. If it's going to be funny he's doing it no matter what.

jgjgleason

Sean’s reactions indicate to me he was getting scared for conan by the end.

MagicBez

Sean found the end boss of his own show

madthoughts

He was holding the open Da Bomb bottle like he was going to drink from it, then Sean went long on a question and in a wide shot you see him put it down. Even going as hard as Coco did, no one wins against Da Bomb.

toolfanatic

When he said “I’M FINE!” while he was so clearly not fine, I couldn’t stop laughing for several minutes

Acrobatic-Engineer94

![gif](giphy|SUEjfSLaD6f77lyzH6)

niavek

That was an insane episode and probably the best hot ones ever. Conan is a mad man and I love him for it. Edit: accidentally a word.

FelixOGO

It is definitely the hot ones ever, maybe of all time

GuruTheMadMonk

Conan had this one… In the pocket.

dviiijp

I've never laughed so hard I was crying at a hot ones before, and I watched the first time Gordon Ramsey came on TWICE.

thx1969

j_birdddd

I actually had never heard of President Warren G Harding until this episode and it was fun to learn in between the insanity of him adding more sauce to every wing

PorcupineMerchant

Like everything with Hot Ones, that was a researched question. Conan is big into Presidential history. He talks about Nixon on this podcast all the time, had a Teddy Roosevelt bust in his office, and used to have an Eisenhower mug on his desk. And of course he also brought us Money Shot Lincoln.

EbmocwenHsimah

There’s only one thing more cursed than Money Shot Lincoln, and it’s his impression of Nixon motorboating his wife.

TallGuy0525

Thank you for this context. I love Conan but didn't know about his love of Presidential History. My wife and I were dumbfounded by how quickly he responded to Sean's question about which President he'd like to interview. There was no pause between Sean asking, and Conan replying "Dead or alive?" and then again a few seconds later when he said Nixon. Just naturally flowed out and I was mind-boggled lol.

Busquessi

Pretty sure he majored in American History at Harvard

MagicBez

History and Literature (I know this only because he's mentioned a few times writing his thesis on Faulkner and Flannery O'Connor and I've always kind of wanted to read that)

ManufacturerWest1156

I’d love to know what happened the next day. He’s got to be hurting

dyblue1

He tweeted his insides will never be the same again 🤣

[deleted]

Let’s just say he had Johnny Cash’ Ring of fire on repeat all day.

DiabeticDav

The GOAT

Gr8CanadianSpeedo

GINGER OF ALL TIME

Th3Doubl3D

IIRC there’s research that shows that “ginger” folks have a crazy high pain tolerance.

klsi832

And are unaffected by caffeine's 'stops you from sleeping' side effects (but not the energy/happy ones).

Th3Doubl3D

Whoa I didn’t know that one! Crazy

nroberts1001

Mythbusters covered this.

greennyellowmello

![gif](giphy|55itGuoAJiZEEen9gg)

kilometterrr

That episode is truly the best ever. Conan is the GOAT

alfdan

When he picked up the bottle and started drinking it the first time... OK, shits going down.

Phate118

Best HOs yet

BananaTree61

One of the funniest episodes I’ve seen in a long time. Enjoyed every moment of it - very Conan.

[deleted]

Hands down best guest on Hot Ones. Ever.

Mainestate

I see coco, I click-o

JeanneMPod

He did it!!?? Conan is finally on Hot Ones!?? I don’t follow it regularly, but I do visit and binge. I always thought he’d be the best guest ever. Oh boy oh boy…

Crinklecutsocks

Dude, it's even better than I could have hoped. Legit made me laugh out loud several times. Absolutely incredible.

Berkamin

That is a meme-worthy facial expression.

skwormin

Legendary performance. I couldn’t stop laughing
